I’m struggling with the not obsessing over every wax and wane of symptoms today. But seeing your good news brightens my day!

I'm a little apprehensive about posting this publicly but if anyone knows me in real life just keep it under wraps for now!
Location: California
EDD: 6/27/2020?
How far along: Probably between 4-5 weeks. I'm terrible at keeping track!
First child? Third
First doctor appointment: Initial phone appointment 10/27
Any symptoms so far? General nausea and I threw up last night!
Who have you told? DH, DD, and DS. Debating when to bring our familys in. We'll see them next week or at Christmas and would prefer to tell them in person, but next week seems SO early and Christmas seems so far... Might not even be a decision we make because DD and DS might give us away!
Excited to be here ️

@skiierchck99: not yet - I will have ultrasounds every two weeks until 12 weeks. At 10 weeks we will stop the PIO and then he’ll start weaning off the estrogen (currently 3 times a day) down to off by 12 weeks. Then I will graduate. Thinking I want to see MFM for this pregnancy though rather than my OB (no offense to her) just given how many issues I had with my first two pregnancies.

@JCCovi: Welcome! Exciting times around here just to clarify is your due date June or July? Want to make sure I get you on the board correctly. Congrats again!!!

@yellowbeach: yeah I can see that! I’m jealous of your more frequent ultrasounds (though obviously not if what led to them). More baby pics!
I’m going cold turkey on e and PIO in another week and I’m sooo excited! Though I’m under orders to stop the E sooner if I get another migraine anyway.

Got my NIPT scheduled today for Nov 22, and set up a new patient appointment with the MFM doctor I want to see for this pregnancy. I love my OB, but she’s a generalist and not MFM. The one I’m choosing to see this time was the one who happened to be on call when I got sick with DD and diagnosed me with HELLP and severe PreE. He gave us his cell phone and called later the next day (when he was off work) to check in on us.

@yellowbeach: I made an appointment yesterday with my OB/GYN practice that I have used for all previous pregnancies. My OB isn’t there anymore though, so I plan on switching in the new year when my insurance changes. I’m pretty sure the MFM doesn’t see you until 12 weeks, right? I know I’m going to need one of those too because of my placental abruption with my third baby.

Heartbeat 162! So relieved, but I feel like this was just the 5 mile marker of a marathon. Measuring at 7w5d, so I’ll have to calculate a new due date I think. Next US is 11/21 and I’ll probably have my blood drawn for NIPT that week - doc likes do it at 11 weeks. I thought it could be done at 9weeks - oh well. Seems like a very long way off

@BUNBUN: Did the doctor not give you a new due date based on the measurements? I’m not sure when my last period was (I can narrow it down to a week) and I’m hoping they are going to give me a due date based on measurements.

@BUNBUN: cute blob! And I didn’t realize you lived in south Dallas I was just up your way a few days ago visiting girl friends

Oh my gosh all these ultrasounds are so exciting! I might try to finagle one since I realized they won’t be able to hear the heartbeat on the Doppler during my first appointment and it would then be another 4 weeks.
Has anyone else had nightblindness with pregnancy? I had it with DD1 which I completely forgot about until yesterday morning when I had it while running the first like 100 meters of my run where there isn’t a streetlight. It’s so insane because there’s ambient light but I can’t see a thing.

@BUNBUN: fwiw my doc said he doesn’t adjust people’s due dates unless they are more than a week of in measurements in a single US or consistently the same days off across multiple ultrasounds because there’s a margin of error in doing the calipers.
apricot / 430 posts
@JCCovi: Not exactly a new due date, but I thought I was 8w4d and the measurements were 7w5d, which makes more sense based on my 5w5d scan.
@LAZB: HAHAHA!! Yes, south Dallas. People don't believe me when I tell them that that's how folks in Htown refer to us! Are you in Htown or vicinity?
@yellowbeach: That's good to know.
FWIW, my practice has never even mentioned a due date. I did the calculations on my own based on when my miscarriage started and when we DTD. 7w5d makes sense based on when we DTD

@BUNBUN: My practice only bases due dates off LMP even if you’re wonky, but my midwife let me use the date I calculated when we started talking about induction.

@BUNBUN: Just let me know if you want me to change your date on the board.
@SweetCaroline: Thank you so much. I'm still quite a bit in shock that I'm even here. As strange as it sounds, less worried about miscarriage (more common) at this point as I've never had one but most worried about a chromosomal abnormality (my chances are 1/22 overall, 1/42 for T21, so low), but I guess you always fear what you've experienced previously. Just taking it 1 day at a time and trying to distract myself to help time move along until out of this scary period.

Took one last picture and tossed my pee sticks today. Anyone else have an unhealthy desire to hang on to stale urine soaked thingies like me?

@yellowbeach: That makes perfect sense. Will be here for NIPT and all other incremental wins

@yellowbeach: lurking ... after recurrent losses I had to FORCE myself to throw them away and I felt superstitious enough to keep them in a drawer until baby was born! So I think you did pretty well ditching them today

Since we're a board fairly experienced at being pregnant, can any of you recommend your go-to safe foods during the 1st trimester to help avoid the nausea and vomiting? I will finally find something that sounds palatable and then make the rookie mistake of devouring it and paying the price.
What are your go-to snacks to graze throughout the day?
apricot / 430 posts
@yellowbeach: I just bought a box of oyster crackers. Unsweetened iced tea or diluted sweet tea help when I can’t handle water. Chicken noodle soup is usually a good bet.
Salt seems to help me most, which is funny to me because I’m not usually a “salty” person - def a sweet tooth! When I’m pregnant sweets appeal mentally (as comfort food) but don’t sit well. I just got some Trader Joe’s triple ginger snaps, and those seem to do the trick of satisfying my sweet craving while not being too rich

@yellowbeach: It’s been different each of my pregnancies but what consistently helps is not letting myself get too hungry and not ever letting myself over eat. So constantly munching on something like carrot sticks or sugar snap peas or some other ‘’slow’’ and crunchy food. As soon as my body gets hungry I know I’m going to be throwing up whether I eat or not.

@BUNBUN: yep! I’m in west Houston
@yellowbeach: I can’t get rid of my tests!
kiwi / 518 posts
@yellowbeach: agree with @jccovi that not getting too hungry or too full seems to be best. I’m most likely to get sick in the morning because I don’t eat till I get to work or around dinner time when I haven’t eaten since 12 - that is, if I’m not following my own advice which I’m often not!

I had to attend a food show as part of this conference I’m participating in and it was SO hard. I stood in front of a vendor I’ve been working with choking down his French fries. Thankfully smell aversions didn’t kick in until this morning.
Carrots work for me too. Kefir yogurt has also been a savior—I think because it’s sour. Also clementines. This is my first pregnancy after going gluten free and GF crackers just don’t appeal which stinks—I just want oyster crackers and saltines!

@Becky: GF when pregnant must be so hard! I really like these gf crackers - maybe they’ll help? I have both the Trader Joe’s and the Blue Diamond ones (got at Whole Foods, I think)
ETA: though I know nothing can really replace saltines/oyster crackers

@skiierchck99: haha! Our generation’s locks of hair, perhaps? (file under creepy things our kids will find in the attic one day!)

How in the world did I miss out on Oyster Crackers as a staple food for first trimester? Never even thought of it. But ordering some now along with my ginger carbonated water.
