@MrsMccarthy: thanks for checking! He found the heart beat on the Doppler, so he said he couldn't do the ultrasound without authorization from insurance. I'm glad we heard a heartbeat, but I'm pretty irritated that he went back on his word. He also did a couple other things that made me think maybe he's not the right dr for me.

@mrs. tictactoe: that's great about the heartbeat but too bad you have to wait to see your little bean! Perhaps time to change now while its still early, sorry you have a doctor ou don't like. I seeing a new OB this pregnancy too and I'm a bit nervous about it.

@MrsMccarthy: yeah, it's just so hard to find someone who takes HMO who does VBACs in my area. I found one today, but his office is 25 minutes away, as is the hospital he delivers at. Not awful, but throw in LA traffic and it could get annoying pretty quickly.

@intotheocean: You should stay! Who knows what what end up happening. Those of us at the end of the month (I'm 2/27) could very well be March mamas too, officially

@AnneBird: I got some decent black dress pants from Kohls. I didn't spend a lot if time looking at other stores. I got desperate in too tight pants one day, and stopped at Kohls on the way home. They are the same polyester/rayon/spandex blend as many of the Express pants are.

@Mrs. Coral: Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to check it out!
So far I have a couple of dresses from Target, 3-4 tops and a skirt from ON, and I just ordered a bunch of stuff from AT Loft (40% off sale, no code needed!) I also plan on hitting some of the maternity consignment shops this weekend.
I have heard of people wearing their pre-pregnancy clothes well into the second trimester, but that's not my luck... I am short, so I guess the bump can only go out?

@AnneBird: i havent worn anything but yoga pants in a month. Ugh.

Today I'm refusing to read my pregnancy apps. A few days ago they all said something like, "Your nausea is likely fading away. The worst is over." But the very next day, BAM, my nausea kicked up a few notches. Now it's almost as bad as when they prescribed the Diclegis over a month ago. After being confined to bed all day yesterday (because the slightest movement sent me over the edge), I was too mad to even look at the apps! Hormones, I guess, but I was so mad! Giving me unrealistic expectations...
If this doesn't let up in a day or two, I'm going to have to ask my midwife about Zofran or something. Nausea has taken over my life! Last night I told my husband that this baby better be doing awesome--to make all my misery worth it. I'm afraid my work performance has gone to hell this month.
Oh, and I had a freak-out moment when I compared my hcg numbers to the normal ranges and realized they were 20% higher than the top of the range. Then I read it could be due to twins...lord help me. Ultrasound on Monday, so I guess we'll see then.

Hi February mama's! Sorry I'm terrible at keeping up with this thread! I hope everyone is doing well, or at least as well as one can do during the first trimester! So exciting that a bunch of you have recently heard heartbeats!
I definitely do not have morning sickness, but I seem to be suffering more food issues with this pregnancy than I remember dealing with in my first. Nothing sounds good, if I eat too much I feel sick, if I'm hungry for too long I feel sick, etc. And lately I am also just STARVING! Is anyone else feeling that way? Maybe it's because I'm breastfeeding and pregnant? Gotta go run and buy a snack now, didn't bring enough food to work and there's no way I will make it until 5 pm!
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@cmomma17: I go from starving to eating something to feeling really really sick afterward. And nothing sounds good. Ever. I am sure breastfeeding makes it worse though. You are feeding 3 people!
honeydew / 7811 posts
@Mrs. Lion: yep, that's exactly my cycle! Starving, eating, sick! Repeat. Hopefully it lets up soon for both of us!
nectarine / 2466 posts
@cmomma17: We're the exact same. No morning sickness or anything, but all food is just gross and then I feel sick after eating some things, but I'm always starving! I'm breastfeeding as well. I'm down to 2 feeds a day and I think next week I will be down to just MOTN / early morning.

I'm in the same boat, nothing sounds appealing at all, and I let myself get hungry and then the nausea starts.
I've been dry heaving a lot in the morning b/c of the phlegm...I've learned a trick that actually makes me stop: Raising my hands straight up seems to stop the dry heaving. DH says it stops your diaphraghm from contracting. It works, anyway...
apricot / 390 posts
@dagret: Not sure if it's dry heaving per se, but I have been noticing I have a really sensitive gag reflex. What's helping is having ice cold water with me, and drinking that calms my gagging, maybe because it opens and exercises my esophagus? I am so ready for the second tri...

Is anyone here having the nuchal translucency done? My ultrasound and first blood work is next Tuesday.
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@swedishfish: I was going to but now I'm leaning forward to skipping it. In part b/c I am going on vacation and starting a new job b/t weeks 11 and 14 and the appointment takes FORRRRRREEVVVVEERRRRRRRRRR.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@dagret: yeah, it took well over an hour and a half last time for the ultrasound alone.

@swedishfish: no NT for me but I will have my first appt Monday and hopefully hear a Hb'

@swedishfish: We decided to skip the NT. My next regular appointment is Aug 8, and HOPEFULLY we can hear the heartbeat for the first time finally!
honeydew / 7811 posts
No NT for me! I have an appointment Monday morning too. Dating ultrasound (I'm guessing transvaginal and maybe we'll hear or see the heartbeat?) and bloodwork. Luckily DH is coming along so he can check out the new doctor/practice.
olive / 67 posts
@swedishfish: I am! Currently scheduled for 2 weeks from now, which puts me at 12W4D. I don't really know what to expect, but I hope everything is OK.
I am so surprised some of us still haven't heard a heartbeat! I've had two sonograms already, and will have another 2 in the next month (one at NT test, one at regular doctor app). Is this regional? a matter of what your practice does?
honeydew / 7687 posts
@AnneBird: mine doesn't even want to see you until you're 10w. Last OB was the same; only regular sonogram was at 20w.
honeydew / 7811 posts
@scg00387: 10 weeks for first appointment is pretty typical in my area as well!
apricot / 251 posts
@Swedishfish. My NT is next Tuesday as well. I'm a little annoyed that my OB won't let me do the t21 (or other blood test) without an abnormal NT since the NT misses c15% of trisomies and I want more certainty than that. But at least it's another chance to see the baby.
I've done a lot of work with companies making the various prenatal testing products and I'm so disappointed with the volume of misinformation that my OB gives me about testing options. They understand the science but seem confused about which options have cleared FDA approval etc., and they ignore me when I gently suggest that there are other options that I want to consider. FWIW, I'm at one of the biggest research hospitals in Boston so maybe I just expect them to know better.

I have another us (my 3rd) next Tuesday at 9 weeks and will have the nt around 13 weeks. Apparently my ob is doing a lot of screening this time....

@swedishfish: I'm going in for the NT on 8/6. It's going to be a long two weeks. I'm ready to see the little bean again. (saw on a dating u/s at 7w4d). I'm hopeful my anxiety will calm down at that point! I'll be 12w6d at the appointment.

@swedishfish: My NT is scheduled for Aug 6th at 12w3d and then a follow up appointment with my doctor the next day. I'm looking forward to seeing the baby again!

@swedishfish: yep. We're doing it -- next Thursday is the ultrasound. We did it for our first child too. It was reassuring.

I scheduled my NT yesterday but I might cancel it. It's scheduled for the first week at my new job. They know I'm pregnant, but I also have my monthly checkup that week, and I'm not sure that I want to come in and have 2 appointments in the first week. I'm going to talk to my husband and see what he thinks...
clementine / 933 posts
@dagret: Could you combine the appointments and do your monthly check-up when you go in for the NT? At my practice, they said the hard thing to schedule was the NT, because it can take so long and not all of their technicians are certified to do it. But I wonder if you could tack-on the monthly check up at the same appointment? They told me they'd be doing the NT, a full blood work-up and a physical at my appointment. (I'm bringing snacks!)
kiwi / 560 posts
@swedishfish: My NT and bloodwork is scheduled for Aug 5, at 12w1d.
We can't wait to see the baby again then and are hoping everything still looks good. My DH's sister is getting married just 3 days before that, and because I'll be pretty much 12 weeks, we think we'll tell extended family at the wedding and anyone else who asks. But we really wished the scan could be the week before so we'd know everything was still okay! Thinking about getting a doppler - has anyone used one at home before?
cherry / 111 posts
@Kbee: I have used a home doppler and its amazing! The first time I used it took about 2 hrs to find the baby but now that I am almost 12 weeks takes less than 5 mins to find it...soo cool!
grapefruit / 4235 posts
@HeartAbandoned:I can't, because the NT is at the MFM specialist, and the checkup is at the regular ob.

@swedishfish: I bought the Sonoline B Fetal Doppler from Fetal Harmony for 50.00 that includes gel and batteries! So worth it!
