I asked my dr for an earlier ultrasound (I mentioned before that I'm at a new office and they don't do the first one until 11-12 weeks) and he said I can have one when I go in for my appointment on Monday! I'm excited, but also nervous. It will be right at the same time that I lost my last pregnancy.

Hi feb mamas, long time no see! I'm back from my trip overseas, more exhausted than ever!
I went to the midwife today for my first appointment, and it went fine, but she wouldn't even try to use the Doppler because I have a tilted-back uterus, and she didn't think she'd be able to find the heartbeat. Also, my due date is officially moved back a few days to Feb 17.
I go back in 3 weeks, but the trouble is that I feel like I still don't have "proof" and am worried about telling any more people about the pregnancy... We do have the option to do the sequential test (is this the same thing as NT scan??), where I could have an ultrasound between 11-14 weeks instead of just waiting until 20, but I'm on the fence about it. If we were to find out our little guy had Down's syndrome, we wouldn't eliminate the pregnancy, so if it did have Down's syndrome, I'm just worried we will make ourselves sick about it rather than just enjoying an otherwise hopefully healthy pregnancy...

I've been MIA for a while and it looks like lots has happened!
@scg00387: A belated congrats and welcome!
@newatthis: Welcome! and congrats on twins!!
@abdubbs: You have twins too! Wow! how exciting
@mrstictactoe: So glad you can get an earlier ultrasound! It really does wonders for peace of mind! I am hoping everything goes better for you this time around
AFM, I had my first appt with my midwife yesterday. I learned that I also have a tilted uterus @circusbee! She tried the doppler but couldn't find the heartbeat, either because my uterus is tilted or because I was only 9w3d. She said she wasn't worried, but she knew my DH and I were nervous and wanted to know things were okay, so she had someone do an u/s for us. We saw our little baby again and it was measuring 9w6d! We're doing the NT scan at 12 weeks, only because we feel like it can't hurt for us to know in advance if anything is abnormal.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@Circusbee: yes, the nuchal translucency is also called the modified sequential. I'm of the mindset that I want to do as much research beforehand if something was wrong. If you have no risk factors, wouldn't terminate, and would worry rather than use the time to prepare yourself then skip it. It's not worth making yourself sick.

@Circusbee: I would opt for ignorance is bliss honestly. With LO#1 we had a scare and several scans when we wouldn't have done a single thing differently if something had been wrong And it just stressed me out to the max. We didn't know for sure until he was born; he was fine. I told DH with this one I will let him hear any news and decide what to tell me.
I had a tilted uterus last time and don't remember any issues or complications, fwiw!

@Kbee: so funny, our tilted back uteruses! It kind of makes me feel better that your midwife wasn't able to find the heartbeat with the Doppler, now I feel like maybe I didn't miss anything after all since mine didn't even try. With our new due date, I was 9w3d yesterday at the appointment, so it looks like we are neck and neck! During the pelvic, the midwife did say my uterus felt like 9 weeks, so that's good, and I have had no bleeding or spotting since my last period in May, so I feel pretty calm still, just a bit disappointed we still haven't gotten any kind of audio or visual confirmation, you know?
@swedishfish and @scg00387 I think the right option for me would be to skip any additional testing (except anatomy scan at 18-22w, which I'm pretty hell-bent on!) as long as the pregnancy continues to be otherwise healthy, since we don't have any risk factors. DH is actually the one who was more into signing up for the NT. I didn't think he'd have much of an opinion, so it kind of took me off-guard. I'll talk to him today about it, since I'll have to let the midwives know what we ultimately decide to do.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@Circusbee: yep we skipped the NT the first time and will again. In my case the suspected issue was found later on after an additional u/s due to low placenta. Hopefully that won't happen again

Hi, everyone! I've been reading boards on hellobee for months, and I'm finally joining the discussion!
We had a pregnancy loss in the spring but are happy to be pregnant again! I was afraid I would be more traumatized if the due date came and I wasn't pregnant again, so we started trying the second cycle after and WOW! Success right away!

First child? If this one sticks with us, it'll be our first.
First doctor appointment: was June 27. Sono & heartbeat were good. We have the NT scan in about a week.
Any symptoms so far? Holy moly, it's been drastically worse this time. Dizziness and exhaustion even before a positive. Four weeks of debilitating nausea so far. I had to get on Diclegis. I'm even getting unwanted hair...ew!
Who have you told? A few close relatives and friends. But one of them has apparently been blurting it out to others. A distant cousin sent me message about it on facebook! I was stunned!
Just have to fess up:
Today I bought new yoga pants and yoga shorts, even though I haven't had the energy to go to yoga class, because they are the only comfortable thing to wear on my severely bloated belly. Thank god I work from home!

@Iced Tea: The exact same thing happened to me! We told our close family members on July 4th (so, parents, grandparents and siblings) and specifically asked that they don't share the news. Fourteen hours later, my grandmother's friend posted a congratulatory announcement "tagging" me on FB. I was shocked! I seriously did not think we would have a social media leak from her generation!
In other news, is anyone else also showing? I've only put on about five pounds, but nothing zips or buttons. I caved and bought a few maternity pieces at Target and ON, but nothing really work appropriate.
Any tips on where to get maternity clothes for a business attire office? Should I just be thankful that I have an excuse to wear soft-knit jersey for the next 7 months?
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@AnneBird: maybe try LOFT maternity? I'm a teacher and bought most of my maternity clothes at Old Navy.
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@AnneBird: yup! I'll probably buy some pieces from there this time.

I bought my first round of maternity clothes this weekend. I'm an attorney at a business casual firm and found some good pieces on sale at the gap and the I ordered the basics pouch from Storq. Ann Taylor is usually my BFF, but I haven't found things I like that are still available in my size. I'm hoping though that I don't have to buy too much more for the next 6 months.

I had a question for you all...hard to explain this pain but recently my lower right side of my back has this weird pain. If i sit or lay down to long if I go to stand up it almost feels like my lower right side feels tender and almost makes my right leg give out. Its almost like if you work out to hard on your legs and you go to walk and your leg gives out....thats how my lower back is. Anyone have anything similar to that?
I know I am doing a terrible job describing it ...very weird and doesnt hurt i just hope everything is okay

@mtex14: does it sound like this? I had SPD at the end of my last pregnancy. I'll be asking for PT if it gets bad early again (had it early on with my miscarriage this year too).

I think i figured it out, I asked my friend who is also pregnant and she said maybe sciatic ...think that's what it is because it can cause weakness! so crazy, going to check in with my Dr as well

@mrs. tictactoe: any news on your ultrasound? Thinking of you and hoping you post it here and all is well.

@mtex14: With my last pregnancy I had something that sounded similar to that. I went to the chiropractor for it and it helped a lot. I've been also having some pains this time around. I use a lacrosse ball ( or any hard ball ) and lay on it and kind of roll around the area that hurts. That also helps.
I had a Dr appt today. I'm 11 weeks and so she tried the doppler and we heard a very strong heart beat. It was super nice to hear and she left it on for a while ( felt like a while ) so we could just enjoy it. With my GP, for my last pregnancy I had to go to a maternity clinic as she works for them and they make her send all her patients to them as well. This time there is a resident Dr working with my GP so she needs to follow 4 pregnancies from start to finish. They asked if the resident could watch my pregnancy. I said yes, but honestly I'd prefer to go to the clinic. They're all very experienced there and I really liked them last time. I'm just nervous if there's any complications or anything having just a resident. It doesn't sound like my Dr will always be with her. Honestly I hope I go into labour when the mat clinic is on call anyways haha. It'll be fine, she's super nice, I'm just being silly.
