Would anyone be interested in sharing inspiration pics on a nursery board for Feb. '15? I'd be happy to start it I'd also love to see your existing nurseries for those of you who are having baby #2! I just love day dreaming about nurseries, really

@HeartAbandoned: this was mine for #1 before we moved! http://swoodsonsays.com/diy-nursery-temporary-nursery-tour/ except we immediately started changing him on the floor

Guys, I can barely think about dinner plans let alone #2's nursery. Bad mom.

Our baby will have the spare room that was supposed to be but never really turned into my office. There's not much in it now except junk, but we do need to strip a wallpaper border, paint the walls, and add shoe rail. I'm hoping we can get all of that done by the time we find out the gender, since we are painting the walls white either way. Then I can start filling it with pretty girl or cool boy things once we know the gender!

In other news, I went into BBB today and tried out the strollers I was considering, and now I'm pretty much set on the city mini gt! It's light, and I was able to collapse it and set it up without asking anyone

And my bump is really starting to grow now, like it's just now starting to get in my way. If I cross my arms, it's uncomfortable, and I no longer bend at the waist... Instead now I bend a few inches below my boobs... So weird!

@scg00387: I love everything about the nursery! Especially the idea to use old calendars as artwork! So, so cute! And you've got plenty of time to think about #2's nursery!

@scg00387: THIS. "Guys, I can barely think about dinner plans let alone #2's nursery. Bad mom." I'm hoping I'll get some inspiration once I know if it's a boy or a girl, but right now? Nope. Nada...no time!

I met a woman today who was pregnant. She had a cute little bump, so I totally thought we were maybe due around the same time. NOPE. She's do in FIVE weeks. I wanted to cry.

This board has been busy today!

@swedishfish: Hooray!!! I'm so happy you got good results, and a BOY!!

    @mrsB2012: Cute announcement!

We haven't announced on FB yet, we've got to wait until I tell members of my dissertation committee next week (they are the last to know). But hopefully we'll share in about a week and a half at 15 weeks!

And we haven't thought much about our nursery, other than knowing we've got to move our office furniture out of it and paint the walls! And get rid of lots of crap. That's about as far as we've got...

I thought exhaustion was supposed to get better in the second tri! I'm 14w5d and I'm soooo tired. Luckily a few weeks ago I decided to book today as a holiday so I didn't have to work. I napped on both of B's naps and I just cannot get off the couch/floor! I feel like such a fail of a mom, a whole day with B and I'm so tired I can't even think of doing something fun with her

@HeartAbandoned: Do it! I'd love to see what others are planning for the nursery!

@Circusbee: I've been debating between the city mini and the city mini gt. What made you decide to go with the GT? I can't choose!

  10. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@Aria: the main reason is the tires. They are much more sturdy and can handle grass and rougher ground. I also believe the seat is a bit bigger as well as the weight limit, so hopefully it will last longer. It was still easy to push and easy to fold/unfold and carry, though I do wish it would stand up straight on its own in the folded position.

Has anyone used the newer ergo 360 carrier? I like that you can safely carry baby in a forward facing position and it seemed comfortable when I tried it on in the store (though with no baby in it !) but I'm just wondering if anyone has compared it to the regular ergo?

  11. swedishfish

    GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts

@Aria: we have the regular City Mini and it's great. The seat height and weight limit are better than the City Select...our preferred double stroller.

@Circusbee: I adore our bumbleride indie! I've used it all over unpaved hiking trails and it's a beast.

To you & anyone else I'd highly recommend going to a babywearing group if you have one and seeing/trying different options. I am petite and the Boba Carrier (not wrap) fit me way better than the Ergo. For newborns it also snaps up so you don't need a bulky insert or hair tie or whatever you do for the ERgo. We didn't want to or ever wish we could forward face so I can't speak to that!

@MrsB2012: At least your exhaustion will just be for a short time, hopefully

I've been so exhausted too, even more exhausted than the 1st tri!

@Circusbee: this is unsolicited advice, but I'd feel badly if I didn't share it. Beware the City Mini GT. We have the 2011 version (from baby #1), and it drives me crazy. The basket underneath is hard to access and tiny! And the child can never sit completely upright, which makes me nervous for snack time. If I could get a do-over, I'd go with the City Select.

Regarding the stroller discussion, we have read a little online and just looked at the ones they had in Target once. According to what I read, I'm attracted to the Chicco Liteway Plus because it seems lightweight and like you can take it pretty much anywhere, but DH didn't think it was "smooth enough" in the store. He LOVED the BOB, but it doesn't seem like you'd want to use it when just doing things like grocery shopping, because it's so big and bulky. Do a lot of people end up with 2 strollers? One for walks/jogging and one for errands/traveling? I feel so clueless!

  16. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@scg00387: and @marzipan: thanks for the input! The city select is just too big and heavy, I did consider that but decided against it in the store. However, I did look into the bumbleride indie, and found the indie 4 which may be my new favorite! It comes with a lot of the extra things you have to buy separately with other brands, including a bassinet! It also has an adjustable footrest, unlike the city mini, and I feel like that's a pretty big deal for a sleeping toddler... Only problem is that it's not sold anywhere near me, so I'd have to order it blind and hope I like it as much in person as I do online/on paper.

Aaaaaand.... With the bassinet attachment, we could skip the infant car seat completely and just go with a nice, really safe convertible car seat from day 1 and save that $200+ investment... Anyone else considering skipping the infant seat?

@Circusbee: I am totally overwhelmed by strollers!! I appreciate the discussion because I like seeing everyone's likes/dislikes. We are so far from figuring things out though!

I bought my first ever pair of maternity jeans today and OMG. I wish I hadn't waited so long. They are so comfy and I was so pleasantly surprised and how good they made me look and feel! AND only $20 at Target. So happy.

@Circusbee: oh! I wish I had gotten the BumbleRide Indie! I didn't even know about them when I was shopping, but they look awesome!

@Kbee: I have never used a stroller grocery shopping, that sounds like a pain regardless. I baby wore when he was little and then he rode in the cart (still does). I use a stroller for farmers markets, fairs, hiking, and walks. I absolutely hate non inflatable tires.

@Circusbee: my kid never slept or sleeps in the car seat or stroller but I know lots of people swear by being able to unsnap a sleeping babe in the infant seat. My indie is an older model so I can't speak to the newer one but we love it to bits.

  22. Circusbee

    apricot / 390 posts

@scg00387: yeah, the sleeping part is the reason I'm hesitating about skipping the infant seat. I'm kind of thinking it might be worth trying, and if we absolutely can't stand using it that early, we can buy an infant seat after baby's born. Or (fingers crossed) borrow our friend's whose daughter will be 11 months by then for a couple months!

  23. Mrs. Lion

    blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts

@Circusbee: i absolutely couldn't stand being home with a newborn all the time, so we were constantly out meeting a friend or meeting my husband for lunch or just walking around target. I loved having the ability to take the baby place to place without waking him up or worrying about his naptimes when he was really young and slept all the time. We have the britax bagile and i still use it several times a day with my 17 month old. If you think you will be at home a lot in the newborn days it isnt worth it. But we were taking lo out from day 1 and the infant seat was well worth the investment.

We are debating between the britax side by side double or the city select....

Eta-omg spelling on the ipad is always so awful. Ugh.

    kiwi / 560 posts

@scg00387: True! I guess not grocery shopping, but when DH and I take the baby places. I have no idea! We will definitely be baby wearing too, I think we are just clueless for now.

@Mrs. Lion: It's definitely helpful to hear from moms who've already done this once! How often we'll be out is a good thing to consider.

@loopedd: I bought my first pair of maternity jeans today too! They're amazing. I tried on a few pairs a couple weeks ago and got discouraged, but these ones are so comfy and look good.

@Kbee: We have 2 strollers. I bought the B ready and have probably used it less than 10 times. I bought a used BOB so I could do a 10k race in the spring this year. I got it for $80 and it's awesome still. I would think about if you're more likely to babywear or use a stroller. I never really thought about wearing much, spent a fortune on the B ready then didn't use it. I've invested in 2 really good carriers ( a Tula and an Olives and Applesauce ) and I use them every single day. I use them for shopping, walking, cleaning the house, everything. So it's something to think about if you will use a stroller a ton or babywear

@Aria: that's awesome! I'm so glad you found some you like. We deserve to be comfy with all the little indignities that pregnancy brings

@MrsB2012: Do you ever use the BOB for errands etc? Like you, we plan to just wear the baby much of the time, but that seems dangerous early on since our neighborhood kind of stinks at de-icing sidewalks and we walk everywhere (our car even lives a 10min walk from our house). It's a historic neighborhood so there are lots of cobblestones and other obstacles that make me think that inflatable tires are the way to go. Still, the BOB just seems to big.

My mom is seriously pitching the bugaboo since it comes with a bassinet (we would then skip the infant car seat), but even the Craigslist prices are more than we were hoping to spend.

  29. MrsB2012

    nectarine / 2466 posts

@Mrs. Detour: I never use the bob unless I'm jogging. It's massive. I have to take the front tire off to get it in my trunk. I forgot we are having winter babies! I wasn't thinking about the ice thing. I guess I'll have to get the attachment for my b ready so I can use the stroller too.

@MrsB2012: There was a stretch this winter when I was having a weekly face-plant due to the icy sidewalks no matter what kind of footwear I tried. I'm crossing my fingers that it's either mild or snowy this year.

Has anyone tried to put a bumbleride indie in a trunk? We don't drive much, but I'd like to have a stroller that I can at least get to my folks house. With less than 700ft in our apartment, we just can't have two strollers.

@Mrs. Detour: again, I have an older model but my indie fits no problem in the trunk of a honda civic and a buick lesabre.

Just chiming in to say that I appreciate the stroller talk! I'm totally overwhelmed with all the gear options. We have the stroller that my niece used with her Chicco infant carrier 4.5 years ago, so I'm tempted to figure out what seat I can buy now that we can use with it, if any. A mom friend of mine recommends going straight for a jogging stroller, not the carrier/seat combo that comes off the shelf. She said you can get adapters so your infant carrier can be used with a jogging stroller, and the jogging strollers are generally way better for all uses. I have done ZERO research, but thought I'd pass along that tip, if it makes any sense!

Second time mamas...we were going to go with the City Select for a double stroller but I think we changed our mind. We are going with a City Mini double and leaning toward the GT. What are you thinking for a double?

  36. MrsB2012

    nectarine / 2466 posts

@swedishfish: we bought a double the first time around to save the expense in the long run. We have the b ready. I haven't used it much with b but have liked it when I have used it. I need to buy the second seat but I might hold off. I really enjoy baby wearing so if I'm walking I might wear one and stroller the other, or if it's not icy then double wear haha. My go to to lose the baby weight haha.

There's gotta be a Lucy List on double strollers, right? I feel so overwhelmed when I think about them, read about them, or research them. AHH So instead of doing any of the above, I'm avoiding it for now. I need to get back to a Buy Buy Baby and "test drive" some. I'm such a hands-on person, that I need to get a feel for them. The problem is that I need to go in with a game plan, which means I have to research. So overwhelming!

  38. loopedd

    kiwi / 536 posts

@Mrs. Rabbit: Ahh, Lucie's List has been amazing to me as a resource for cutting through the clutter. I would do anything that woman said just to be done with it!

We went to the gigantic Babies R Us in Union Square NYC yesterday and they have the biggest selection of stroller's to try out I've seen anywhere. I've been pretty set (thanks to Lucie's!) on doing a Chicco KeyFit with a Caddy frame, and then later a Britax B-agile 4 (which I LOVED test driving!). Well, then my husband sees the 4moms Origami stroller at BRU and FREAKS. OUT. I swear they display that thing just to entertain husbands. He probably did the auto open/close 100 times and took a video of himself doing it. He is now OBSESSED. It's cool looking, but it's $850, has NO storage, and weighs 32 lbs!!

Part of me is amazed that he's so excited about a piece of baby gear and the other part is annoyed that he's going to fight me on this now, lol! Now he wants everything 4moms makes. Those people know who to market to!!

While we are talking about gear, just thought I'd throw it out there. This was my absolute favorite baby item with B. http://www.bloomingbath.com/blooming-bath-baby-bath.html
We used it from the day she came home from the hospital until she was about.. 8 months old? Maybe 9? It was so soft and comfortable to bathe her in the sink. It also helped me as I wasn't bending over a bath tub trying to wash her. She never once cried in the bath, not even the first time we put her in it. I honestly can't rave enough about it.
