@Mrs. High Heels: Rice is abundant life, right?! Sounds like Jaren is in for a good future! Congrats on everything going great. I love how your string letters turned out!

I would be peeved about the last minute stuff. Actually, I AM peeved, kind of like @Smurfette: mentioned. I think guys just don't really get exactly how much planning it takes to pull off a bigger party. When we were wedding planning, DH thought I was crazy and way to stressed and trying to DIY too much stuff, but at our wedding and so many times after he's commented on how great it was, how there were so many personal things, etc. I had to remind him today that the birthday party is the same way. He wants to have a nice party, but just doesn't realize all the little things that go into it. If he were making the list of what needs to be done it would be like this:

    1. Pick a cake from the ready made cakes at the grocery store. Maybe have them add names.
    2. Buy ice cream.
    3. Show up with the above.

If it weren't for my crazy planning, that party would end with everyone eating cake and ice cream with their hands. Hmmm...actually that sounds kind of awesome.

@Adira: @Mrs. Blue: @smurfette: thank god for you guys and for women who can relate! sometimes i wonder if i'm just being too uptight about things, but it feels good knowing i'm sane!!!

@Mrs. Blue: LOL at the "maybe have them add names" - that is SO my husband, hahaha... !

@Mrs. High Heels: J's party looks awesome! Well done mama and now you can relax. Men are an entirely different species I think. They have no idea how this party planning works or how detailed it is.

@Mrs. Blue: This would be my husband.... except no ice cream

@Mrs. High Heels: Glad your party went well! What a great photo of your kid.

We had our birthday party today too. We ended up with 10 kids, plus their parents, at an adorable indoor play space. It was wonderful, and the party itself was a lot of fun. At the same time, I am incredibly happy that we have nothing to do but relax tomorrow.

Here are a couple of photos: homemade cupcakes, handmade favors (cookies for adults, waldorf style hand kites for kids), one side of the play space, sign.

@mole: Looks like a good party. I really want to eat one of those cupcakes!

@Mrs. Blue: I think cake and ice cream would be pretty much all any party had if men planned them.

@Mrs. High Heels: Everything looks great!! The letters look so good. Every time I make them they don't look that good! Good idea with the Cheese-it's and Animal Crackers.
@Mrs. Blue: Sounds like my husbands idea for a party. I think he thinks I am crazy for all in doing, even though it isn't much, but like our wedding will say how great it looks.
@mole: yours looks so cute too! I want a cupcake!

This is making me so excited for R's party!

Gahhh, even the hot glue isn't keeping these labels on!!!! I'm out of ideas!

@Mrs. High Heels: So glad to hear your party went well!!!! J is soooooooo adorable!!! And that's awesome you had a photographer. I'm kind of hoping I can get one of my friends to take pictures at Xander's party. I can't wait to see the photos from J's party!!!! Yay!!!

@mole: Yay!!! So glad you had fun at the party! And those cupcakes look awesome!! What kind of frosting is that? And your son's stats are similar to Xander's in terms of crawling and standing! I'm glad mine wasn't the only slow poke to tackle those physical milestones!

  10. Adira

Okay, I think I'm going to try packing tape. It won't look as clean since the tape isn't as wide as my labels, but it probably will work better!

@Mrs. High Heels: your party looks great! Those letters turned out amazing! I kind of wish we had been able to have a photographer - I got some good pics but not a whole lot of non-blurry ones!

@mole: looks like your party turned out great! Your cupcakes look delish and the favors are so cute! How do the kites work and were they difficult to make?

Our party was a lot of fun! It was so worth all the work but we will definitely not be doing anything of that scale for quite some time!!! We had about 30 people at our house. The food turned out really yummy and we have so many leftovers! I'm really happy with how all the decorations turned out even though I did scrap quite a few projects!

I think the biggest hits were the punch, mom's BBQ beef sliders, and the red velvet cake. Liam loved the strawberries I put on top of his cake - he was somewhat skeptical about the rest of it (he did eat a little of it though).

    Here's some pics:

@dojo: Oh wow, your party looks awesome!!! You have so many little details, I love it! And I'm so jealous of your month picture display! I couldn't find 12 nice picture holders like you have, so we're using cheapy ones and it won't look nearly as nice!

  13. dojo

    persimmon / 1223 posts

@Adira: the ones I used are from ikea! $1 each! Haha we used them at our wedding so they are being repurposed!

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: Unfortunately, I don't have an Ikea near me at all (the closest is 45 minutes away I think), so it's not easy for me to get my hands on those nice frames! Oh well!

@dojo: wow your party looks amazing!!! love all the little details, and i agree that the IKEA display looks sooo cute!

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Why am I not getting my reply e-mails?? Gahhh!!! It's photo paper, so it's thick, which I think is a big part of the problem. But still... you'd think glue would work!

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@cheert16: You made that? It looks incredible!!

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: yeah I would think. Glue gun would work. Those things fix everything!

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I have a glue gun and it didn't work!!!! WTF!!! So I'm thinking that packing tape is going to have to be the route I go, but I'm sad that it won't look as nice.

@Mrs. High Heels: I'm glad everything went well! J is such a cutie!

@mole: That play space looks amazing!!! I've never seen anything remotely that nice around here. Also, your picture is totally making me crave cupcakes right now!

@dojo: I love the Ikea picture frames! Random true story: there is no ikea here, but a little boutique shop down the street from me was selling these exact frames (plus some other ikea stuff) for some exorbitant sum...we always chuckle at what people were paying every time we walk by there. Also, love your color scheme...I might copy it for one of our future parties.

  26. Adira

So my two childless friends finally RSVP'd to Xander's party! Right on the RSVP date, haha. But they're both coming, so yay!

Hubs' grandparents never RSVP'd though... WTF?? I'm assuming they're not coming, but I think it's rude not to RSVP.

  27. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I swear, old people think they can do and say whatever they want. You would think that generation would RSVP!

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Seriously!! If anyone was going to RSVP - I would expect it to be them!!! Oh well! I don't care if they don't come - they didn't go to SIL's daughter's birthday party either.

  29. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

Random question! I'm planning on having about 25 guests and have ordered 36 cupcakes, which I'm assuming will be plenty. But two my guests are lactose intolerant, so I was going to make them dairy-free cupcakes when I make Xander's cake. Should I make 4 cupcakes, just in case they each want more than one?

  30. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I would! But I always make way more food then I need to.

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Okay, that's what I was thinking too. Maybe I'll just make enough batter for a full cake - make Xander's mini cake and then make however many cupcakes the rest of the batter makes!

  32. ALV91711

@dojo: I love all the details for your party! Everything looks so great!

    @cheert16: Love the cake topper!

@Adira: You would think out of everyone the grandparents would rsvp.

@Adira: I would make 4, so they have the option of eating more than one.

I've decided to just make one craft and buy the rest of our decorations. I have pretty much everything I need now, just one trip to target to get the rest. I think I've also decided to order a chalkboard print since his one year appointment is far enough in advance of his party.

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: That makes sense! 4 it is!

Jealous you're going to have a chalkboard print!!! I wish we had done that, but his appointment isn't until a week after his party and now it's too late to try to get a chalkboard anyway, haha. Oh well!

  34. dojo

@cheert16: That cake topper is SO cute! Is it fondant? It turned out fantastic!

@Baby Boy Mom: haha that's so funny - I've seen some Ikea things on Amazon before priced higher than what they retail for and it always confused me!

@Adira: 4 cupcakes sounds good! I will say though that I have about a million leftover cupcakes since they didn't really get eaten at our party - I was trying to send them home with people! My mom got me all freaked out that the cake would only be enough for 12 people so I doubled my recipe and made tons of cupcakes... Now I am just going to end up eating them all...

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@dojo: hahaha, yeah, I'm assuming I'll have left-overs too! But I think I'll just bring them to work the next day to get rid of them!

@cheert16: Oh, I think I posted on IG but didn't respond here. I LOVE that cupcake topper you made! It looks fantastic!!!

@mole: gosh the cupcakes look so delish I want to eat the screen!!
@Mrs. High Heels: Jaren looks so adorable!!
@dojo: such an elaborate party and all the details!! and Liam is so cute stuffing his face with strawberries
    @cheert16: Wow that looks amazing!!
I ordered the crown and got J's bday outfit as well. Slowly chipping away at my todo list! I'm slowly chipping away at my todo list and this board is so inspirational!!

@ALV91711: @Smurfette: @AprilFool: @cheert16: @silver1: Thanks everyone! I am just happy that everything worked out.

@Adira: The cupcakes are red velvet, so the frosting is a cream cheese buttercream. It was actually really easy to make, and then I just piped it out.

@dojo: What great photos! The handkites are similar to these: http://www.etsy.com/listing/97337233/waldorf-hand-kite-rainbow
I didn't want any of the babies to be able to untie the ribbons, so I just secured each ribbon to itself with invisible thread. That was the hardest part of the whole project.

    @cheert16: Wow, super cute!

Just got my laptop back so I'm going to try and catch up!

@Mrs. High Heels: @dojo: Eeeekkkk!!! The boys had such CUUUTE and wonderful looking birthday parties!!!!

@Mrs. High Heels: You're lucky the weather was so gorgeous! OMG I can't believe you had to handle everything solo parenting after the party. Love love love Jaren in his hanbok and his doljabi!

@Mrs. Blue: LOL! My DH is about the same way. He would be concerned about (and in this order): drinks, food, music, and maybe cake.

@mole: Wow! Your party turned out wonderful!!! That indoor playhouse is kind of amazing! I want one! heheh

@dojo: Liam is so cute! I love your monthly pic stands and his name candles!

@cheert16: That caterpillar is too stinkin' cute!

@ALV91711: Sounds like a good plan! I have been to Target too many times this weekend!

We are getting down to crunch time with our party this Saturday! I just ordered the party rentals for chairs and tables. Helium is so expensive! It was just about the same price to rent helium tanks/buy helium tanks/buy filled balloons at Party City! I have 2 small helium tanks from Target, so I'm hoping those will be enough.

Now if only K would nap on schedule, I could get more stuff done! We still need to find her outfit and it's supposed to be pouring rain and a storm is coming through (well, a storm by SoCal standards ) and I have no idea what to put her in for pictures!

@Smurfette: Yes!!! I am going to Baby Gap right after her nap to see if they have the first dress in store. I saw it on sale online, but I've never seen it in store? Is the other blue dress from Carter's? I went to 2 Carter's yesterday and didn't see that. I might have to check again.
