@dojo: @Mrs. High Heels: Yes!! I second what @Smurfette: said!! Have fun this weekend!!!!

@Smurfette: Yes! I didn't join IG until Xander was already 7 months! So I ended up making a new account and I loaded all my favorite IG pictures to it and then added all my favorite pictures from Facebook in order to capture the other months! I definitely have MORE pictures from 7+ on than the beginning months, but oh well. This also made it so that when I was ordering from prinstagram, I could use my new account and basically select ALL pictures, since I had only uploaded my favorites!

@Smurfette: I have dropbox on my computer and phone so I can move photos between them both. So I copied all my favorite pics from my computer to dropbox and then could load them from dropbox directly into instagram.

@Adira: Good idea! I can do that. DH is going to be out tonight so I will be bored at home.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, yes! Do it! It was kind of annoying adding all the pictures to my new instagram account, but it actually didn't take as long as I thought it would. I just did it while Hubs was watching basketball.

@Smurfette: thanks! i hope it goes smoothly and that i don't forget anything since it's not going to be at home!

Ugh I am so stressing about how much I have to do and how little time I have left. I need to send out the invites ASAP. Also, I need to figure out where I am getting a cake done, because I frankly have no time or talent to make my own. And I need to decide where to get BBQ from... And then all of the details. It just isn't going to be pinterest worthy. I have no time!!
ETA- His birthday party is on the 15th and I purposely didn't send invites early because our guest list is huge and sadly I'm hoping some will have other plans

Argh! My laptop is going but so and I can't type any responses on it! @Mrs. High Heels: hope your party goes great!!!
@travellingbee: ah! I hear you sister! I would check out the supermarket! I was really impressed with the smash cake I got at Ralph's! And it was cheaper than 2 cupcakes I bought at a shop. And the baker made the frosting the way I wanted...
So I finished 1 project last night and felt a but better. Also outsourced a few tutus to my sister! ;). I couldn't find a Rio fabric, so this was the girliest blue colored fabrics I could find.
We've decided on ordering El Pollo Loco for the party since it's similar to Brazilian BQQ or at least DH has convinced me so.

It must be the just the right ( or wrong??) time because I am suddenly so stressed out about this party. I need a master checklist or something. I'm trying to apply @Mrs. High Heels: strategy of making a list of DIY, Outsourcing, etc., but I feel like I can't even think of all the things that need to be bought, made, done, etc.
Hope all our first wave of March babies have fantastic birthdays this weekend. Ladies, enjoy it!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@travellingbee: can you do an evite? I didn't even send or create invites.
@Mrs. Blue: first do a brain dump of everything! Then start separating out the categories!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: haha! I thought about that with invitation numbers. Have you seen paperless post? They are super cute! Online but look like regular invitations. I think we are going to get a sheet cake from Costco. I am going to make her smash cake but not attempting one for everyone else. Too many people.
@shopaholic: That looks so cute! Great job on it and outsourcing some tutus. I am sure the food will be great.
@Mrs. Blue: I have of everything I want to do and I check it off when I make it or order it. Then I have another list with food and a grocery and Costco list started. Can you tell I like lists?

@mrs. blue, SERIOUSLY.
I do have a list, though. Decor and food and invites.

@shopaholic: that turned out great!
I need to make a list of everything to do tonight and tomorrow... Basically right now it looks like this: tonight-clean/tidy up, marinate meats, get the table ready, hang/finish decorations prep most foods. Tomorrow-get some balloons and take a shower.
I still have to bake the cake/cupcakes. Should I do that tonight and frost tomorrow or just bake first thing in the morning?
I'm so glad my mom is staying over tonight so she can help with everything!

I'm so behind on this thread. I suck at keeping up with these things, ya'll talk a lot!
Here's where I am:
Photo booth DIY - DONE
Invitations - DONE
Birthday Dress - PENDING (ordered yesterday)
Birthday Crown - . . . (Still looking)
Photographer - DONE (I'm so incredibly happy about this. It wasn't budgeted but then she said "Can I come to the party and take pictures? I love photographing her." Waa?! Um. Yeah!)
Smash Cake - PENDING (I'm testing recipes for the perfect one)
Menu - DONE (Crostini Bar, Tea, Izze, and mini cheesecakes)
Decor - PENDING (I still need to buy some boxwood garlands, and a sheer canopy from IKEA, and some ribbons and balloons. Everything else is done.)
Am I forgetting anything?

@Mrs. Blue: @blackbird: i purposely avoided pinterest all these months! i think pinterest fatigue is a very real thing... it paralyzes me!
@shopaholic: that turned out great, and i loooove el pollo loco, esp their jalapeno sauce!!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@dojo: can you bake tonight, and freeze? then tomorrow morning frost it as it's defrosting.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: @Smurfette: I have the paper invitations- just need to mail them.

@Arden: that's great that your photographer offered!! looks like you're all set

@travellingbee: ah then it's probably best that they get used, haha

@Mrs. Blue: @Smurfette: I have about 5 half finished lists. I really need to work on a master!
@shopaholic: It looks perfect. The colours are lovely!
@dojo: Bake tonight! They need to be cool to frost so you don't want to have to rush them in the morning
@Arden: That is so sweet of your friend to offer!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Arden: So awesome you are getting a photographer for free!
persimmon / 1223 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: @AprilFool: That's a good idea - so I should just freeze overnight and then how long do you think it needs to defrost?
nectarine / 2591 posts
@dojo: I wouldn't freeze them, don't even put them in the fridge. Just once they're cold put them in a sealed container. Cake should be fine for 12 hours.
persimmon / 1223 posts
@AprilFool: would just wrapping it once it's cool be ok? I don't know if I have a big enough container to fit it in.
nectarine / 2591 posts
@dojo: I just did a quick google and this is what it said
• Unfrosted and Un-Cut Cake - Wrap these tightly in plastic wrap, top, sides, and bottoms, so the plastic is touching the sides of the cake (that is to say, don't just drape the plastic over the top). Second to this, go for a plastic bag with a "zip-lock" type seal. Store these wrapped cakes on the counter at room temperature, and they'll keep for about a week before starting to stale on you. Oil-based cakes tend to keep a day or two longer than butter-based ones.

@dojo: I would bake tonight and wrap up but don't freeze
bananas / 9973 posts
@Mrs. Blue: It must be the time - everyone's starting to feel deadline pressure? Hopefully you can start checking things off a list and feel better too!
@Smurfette: @dojo: @AprilFool: Thank you!
@Arden: That is AWESOME you've got a free photographer! I just booked one of the moms in our mommy group. She's been doing everyone's parties, so I kind of felt like I should have a photog too. She's giving us a decent discount, but I wish we had a free photog! And um…. your menu sounds Delish!
@dojo: OMG I can't believe L turned 1 yesterday! I have no clue about this baking and freezing beforehand stuff. Good luck!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Smurfette: @shopaholic: @AprilFool: @Mrs. High Heels: I know it's amazing. This is the same photographer that did our family photos (and Vi's newborn pictures) at a drastically reduced rate because she's just awesomely sweet. I adore her. So lucky.

@Smurfette: Tried the glue dots. They didn't work. Next up is hot glue!

@blackbird: That's the methodology I'm following! I'm putting up some decor this weekend and will hopefully finish cleaning and then I'll just need to get all the food next Saturday and setup Sunday morning!

Everyone is so ahead, I've pretty much done nothing but gather ideas. I think I should make a list of what I need to buy and get shopping.
I have half the supplies for one project. Yesterday I was at target and had a bunch of things to buy and then there was only one till open and the line was super long, I was on time crunch and couldn't wait, so now I'll have to go back.
My mom and MIL will be here to help out. I'm hoping the only thing I have to do the morning of is go buy helium balloons.
@dojo: @Mrs. High Heels: Hope your parties go great today! Can't wait to see pics.

@dojo: have a wonderful party today!!
i got so peeved at my husband last night because all i asked him to do for this entire party was to 1) pick up extra folding tables from a friend (been asking him for weeks and he does it last night), and 2) help me unload and load the car.
i get home from visiting my sister at the hospital around 9 pm (she gave birth yesterday!)... and he's nowhere to be found so i just go do my own thing and get some last minute stuff squared away. he finally calls at around 11:15 pm - he's asking me if i want innout, and told me that he just finished up shooting hoops with his friend.
i was just frustrated because i've been taking care of all the party prep, and he couldn't even follow through with both the things i asked him to do. he was saying, "well i figured if i didn't get to it tonight, we'd have time in the morning!" - the point was to not wait until the last minute. i wanted everything in the car so it's one less thing to worry about the day of.
anyway, he came home with roses so of course i couldn't stay mad!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Ugh, I'd be pissed too! I HATE when things get put off to the last minute, but my husband is the same as yours - he gets very nonchalant about getting stuff done and always figures he has plenty of time to do it and will wait until the last minute. But glad he brought you flowers!!!
@Mrs. High Heels: @dojo: How'd the parties go???
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: I would have been pissed took. At least you got flowers. I was ticked at mine last night too. For awhile different reason. Men!! Congrats on your nephew!

Both kids are down, so I can finally come here and post an update! His 1st birthday went well! I didn't forget to bring anything to the park, so that was a relief, and the time went by sooo fast. Most of the guests were about 30 min late, but I expected that since they're all parents with young children. It's a good thing too cuz MIL was about 20 min late bringing the food, I was freaking out a little because food is the most important part!
We also didn't put up as many balloons as I envisioned because we ran out of helium, and we didn't do streamers at all.
The instagram garland turned out really well. And I was happy with how the head table turned out. I was originally going to make cake pops, brownie bites, and rice krispy pops to supplement the cake, but I was wondering are people really going to eat that many sweets... then when I was at Costco the other day I saw cheez-its and realized it'd be soo much easier on me if I just filled up glass cylinders with cheeze-its, and animal crackers - kid friendly snacks too! I supplemented the rest with fruit. Healthy stuff!
Here's Jaren reaching for the rice!
As I expected, I had my hands full allll day so barely took any pics - I don't have any pics of the food. So glad we had a photographer. Can't wait to see his pics.
I'm sooo pooped and my whole body is sore for some reason. Right after the party, I went home and put J down for a nap while N played with a new toy of his. DH jetted off to a wedding right afterwards so there was zero downtime for me... I'm exhausted. It was a great day, but I am sooo glad it's over. I can't believe my baby is OFFICIALLY ONE. I held him extra tight today and could not stop looking at him. I just wanted to soak in every inch of his babyhood.

@Mrs. High Heels: Sounds like a great day! I'm glad that it all turned out for you. He is such a cute 1 year old.
