I thought it would be nice to have a thread just for talking about/planning our babies first birthday parties!
February or April babies or anyone else planning a first birthday party are of course welcome to join!

Themes, anyone? We're doing a bird theme (of course) in jewel tones. I'll post some inspiration photos when I'm on the computer.

I can't believe we are already planning first birthdays!! Where did our babies go?!
@Arden: I can't wait to see inspiration pics.
I'm going to do a sesame street theme. Not doing invites since it will just be a small group of people, but I'm definitely going to have fun with decor!

Love this thread idea. Just starting to get into planning mode. Im a little nervous because I've never really planned a party before. I'm thinking we will do a pink/grey/turquoise with polka dots and chevron print, not necessarily a "theme"

Oh my gosh, a March theme-specific thread??? What IS this??
I'm doing a Retro Robot theme!! Inspired by Xander's onesie stickers, I decided to carry the theme over into his party. Plus I found an awesome etsy shop that has some great invites and party pieces. My only issue now is figuring out where to get everything printed! Attached are the onesie stickers I use, his invite, and a picture of the party inspiration:

We are doing a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Theme. I sing it to her every night. And Mama wants to take advantage to do pink, silver, and glitter before she can tell me otherwise.
These are our invitations my friend designed (front and back). Then some inspiration I found.

And this is going to be her outfit. Onesie in silver. Just need a headband and will get some white leggins in case it is cold

@Smurfette: Your invites are gorgeous!!!! Have you sent them out yet? I ask because I haven't sent mine, haha. And I LOVE that onesie... I'm still trying to figure out what Xander should wear...

@Adira: I don't even have them yet. I will send them out mid February. I love that onesie too, Lawbee found the etsy shop. I love it is different, simple, glitter, and gets the point across. Now I just need 2 outfits for her 1 year pictures.

Cute cute cute. We are doing a retro cowboy theme since his birthday is during rodeo season here (which is about a month long- and a pretty big deal.) Here are our inspirations:

@travellingbee: Gahhh, I LOVE that shirt!!!! Where'd you find it?? Do they have a robot one??

@Adira: Yeah, mine was from Etsy too. That is super cute!

I've settled on trying to do a garden theme I think. Like a tea party? Bright colors, flowers, in the afternoon so we can do snacks and cupcakes instead of a full spread. Very small. Now I'll have to find a style of invite I like... or just paint it myself
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: I just wish it was a white shirt instead of blue... and should I get short sleeve and then layer it over a long sleeve onesie? Or just go with long sleeve...?
@NaturallyCathy: That sounds so pretty!! And you should totally paint the invites yourself!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I love the invites!
@Adira: That is a cute shirt. Send the etsy seller a message and see if they would do it in white. I'd say probably long sleeve since it won't be warm yet.
@travellingbee: Lots of good inspiration!
@NaturallyCathy: If I had talent I would paint my own. A tea party will be fun!

@Adira: so cute!
@travellingbee: I really love the Retrol twist to just a cowboy theme. I got an Oriental Trading catalog in the mail and looked for you, but all was regular cowboy stuff.
@NaturallyCathy: Super cute!! Cucumber sandwiches. And you should paint it!!

@Adira: I think I am going to order in long sleeved cause I figure I can always roll them up. Verses a long shirt/onesie under it and dealing with more snaps.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: It's usually already warm here in March (it was 80 when I brought him home from the hospital) so I went with a short sleeve and if necessary I can put a onesie underneath. For us it made more sense but up North I would go with the LS.

I just ordered a bunch of stuff. Yikes!- 1st birthday just got real!!!

I still can't believe our babies are turning one in 2 months (or less)!!!

Such cute ideas! What would we do without Etsy and Pinterest?
I'm planning a monster themed birthday with these invitations https://www.etsy.com/listing/68224842/monster-party-birthday-invitations-set Now I just need to pull the trigger and order them!

@travellingbee: @Adira: I know! I am going shopping for craft supplies on Saturday so I can get started crafting. I have girl favors, some star serving dishes so far.

OMG!!! My invites just arrived and they look fantastic!!!! I'm so excited!!!!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Adira: You are very on top of things. I haven't even picked out invites yet! Her birthday isn't until the end of March though.
What are you all planning for food?
I'm thinking I'm going to do a crostini bar, but I'm not sure if that's enough or if I should add something else.
Is anybody hiring a photographer? I really want to (Photography is VERY important to me) but I just can't see any way that we'll be able to afford it. Sigh. Oh well.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I got mine tonight too! I love them!
@Arden: We are doing the party between 2-4, so I am not going to do a ton. Little cake for R. Then cupcakes and cookie cake for everyone else. Fruit, crescent spiral rolls things, dips, veggies, and I am not sure what else. Then sodas, water, and beer.
I am going to ask my cousin, does photography as a side business, to take pictures with our camera. We can't afford one. We have her 1 year pictures the next weekend.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: I had to get mine soon - his birthday is March 2nd!
I have no idea what I'm doing for food... I haven't even thought about it.
We probably won't hire a photographer, as much as I'd love to. We haven't for anything else, so probably won't for this either.
@Smurfette: Yay!!!

@Arden: I would love to have a photographer, but the one we used (super affordable and she was awesome!) is pregnant and due on C's birthday! I'm thinking about giving my sister my camera and designating her as the photographer of the day

Love all these themes! Such variety!
You guys are making me want to buy a house asap just so we can throw a party! If we end up being settled by March and do have a party, our theme will be dinosaurs. Here are some of my inspirations pics:

I wish we could afford a professional photographer but I don't think it's in the cards for this one. Luckily, my dad's hobby is photography so we can count on him for getting good pics, even if they aren't the most artistic.

@travellingbee: Oh my gosh, the cow balloons are amazing!
@Adira: Cute shirt! Fits the theme perfectly!
@Smurfette: Such a pretty and magical theme! R is going to R that outfit for sure.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@jodyblair: Those are super cute!
@Adira: Your on top of things!
@Arden: Could you find a student or a talented family member to do some nice photos?
@QueensBee: I love the dinosaur toe nails!! Well, if it doesn't work out for this year, you could use this theme next year.

Hi Ladies!
I feel like I'm SUPER behind on planning!
@Arden: We also have a bird theme! We're basing it off the movie, Rio, and also kiddie-friendly Carnaval theme.
I was planning to hire a parrot/bird entertainer for the babies, but come to find out it's banned in our county.
What are you guys planning to "do" at the party? Most of the kiddies will be a little over 1. So it's not going to be "run-free" kind of environment where they can free-play. Plus, it will be indoors. And then I have to think about food... I feel overwhelmed by it all.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: Thanks! I'm so excited I found it!! And I LOVE that dinosaur theme!! So cute!!!
@shopaholic: Love your Rio theme! As far as what we're doing at the party, I have no idea. Do I need kid-friendly activities?? Ugh, I hadn't even thought of that...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: I love the dinosaur toes! Now I really want you to find a house.
@shopaholic: Weather permitting, I was going to hang some stars from a tree or something, and have then shoot the stars with marshmallow gun. I am also thinking about getting these telescopes and having them decorate (get different stickers and tape) We have 13 kids invited, counting R. I think 3 won't be able to make it since they live out of town. But the rest are 7-1.5. So I need something to do for them.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: Could you hire a balloon artist? They could make hats and such for the kids that would keep with the them. Even make each kid a bird to take home.
