@Mrs. Blue: I saw some at Party City. I think they were $15-$20. The have a big star I thought about getting.
@Dojo: I have no activities either. Since they are all family, minus one 4.5 month old, I figure they can run around outside. They never have activities at other family parties. I will pick up bubbles, in case it is nice, but that is all.
And Mrs. Blue cake is an activity!!

@Mrs. Blue: Yikes! I would feel so overwhelmed too if I had that many house guests right before a birthday bash. I hope they'll lend a hand and that it turns out to be a blessing in disguise! And cake is totally an activity! The only activity we have is the dohl game where they choose one of several items. I consider FOOD/EATING an activity too!

@Baby Boy Mom: That BIG ONE is really cute!! Glad the party was a success! Balloons really help to make everything feel festive - I'm counting on them to cover up for a lack of decor... haha.

@dojo: thanks! I just told myself that a first birthday is mostly for us parents to celebrate that we made it, so as long as it feels festive, it's ok to drop all the projects.
@cheert16: Yup, I bought some candy and we smashed the piñata. My two year old would have had a hissy fit if it had only been a decoration...haha
pomegranate / 3983 posts
@Adira: I think that's totally fine. Most of the first birthdays I have been to have had no activities other than eating cake! (My go-to at home for older kids is always coloring...I figure there's a reason why all the restaurants have crayons...)

@Mrs. Blue: Oh definitely! We did our two year old's party last summer in TX and had no problem finding pinatas! I'm pretty sure we saw some at party city like @Smurfette.

So I started looking at my instagram pics for prinstagram and have 42 favs. Hmmmm this could be an issue!

@Baby Boy Mom: Love the big one!! Pinata sounds fun as we likely are going to have a few kid guests.
Yup we are going to have cake activity and whatever entertainment LO does I am going to have houseguests as well and we live in a tiny apt!! I'm a last minute doer so not sure how that is going to happen with guests. I want to make little prince crown, cake decorations, banners, chalk board, all the cute decorations, food but realistically Im just going to buy stuff and call it a day.

@Adira: Yay! I *think* mine should arrive tomorrow or Friday! It's actually taken longer than I expected, but maybe because they don't count weekends and Monday was a holiday?
@AprilFool: Cute invite wording! I'm not 100% sure what a sausage sizzle is…
@Baby Boy Mom: LOVE that big 1! Can I be a drop out too? lol. Ahhh… the pressure is building!
@dojo: This is one of my big stresses right now too. I have no idea what people expect to do at a baby party. The babies are too young, the people with no kids will probably be bored without drinks and games.
Ladies - I'm really starting to feel stressed out about this party planning. Too many ideas and unfinished projects. And my MIL asked me what kind of entertainment and food I'll be having, etc. My dad told DH's godparents about the party (and we didn't invite them or the god brothers, so I have to send out more invites tomorrow). I've been sick and tired and spend my nights watching the Olympics with DH if I manage to stay awake. I just want to give up. I need to do some MAJOR planning the rest of this week - like arranging rentals for chairs and tables and ordering the food at least!
Plus, I have NO idea what K is going to wear.
P.S. Would it be weird to have a piñata for a decoration and NOT fill it with candy or hit it? Or should I just do that for the few older kids? I bought a really cute Toucan - but the cost of the candy to fill it is outrageous!

@shopaholic: breathe breathe breaaaathe!! all people care about in the end will be good food and good company. i'm sure they'll have a good time just mingling without extras like games/activities and super nice decor. how long is your party going to last?
i don't think it'd be weird to just use the pinata as decor! i doubt the adults would care enough to hit it, and all the babies would be too young! what about just filling maybe a third of it. that's what Mr and Mrs. Bee did when we had our blogger/hostess meetup... we had a pinata but it wasn't that full, and we just let the toddlers go at it.

@shopaholic: Breathe and then make lists! I looove a good list. Then tackle them one by one. Don't worry about entertainment.!! The kids will amuse themselves and the all the adults need is conversation.
A toucan pinata seems too good to waste.
This is a sausage sizzle

@Mrs. High Heels: @AprilFool: Thanks ladies. I attempted a DIY tonight - Pinterest FAIL. I think I just need to go to bed and call it a night and go to bed. At this point, I'm ready to outsource everything to Etsy in the morning. lol
@Mrs. High Heels: I think I will let DH decide on the piñata. I'm thinking our nephews (5 & 8) are the main kids that would love to demolish it.
@AprilFool: Mmm… that looks delish!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@shopaholic: There is nothing wrong with outsourcing! And pintrest has a lot to answer for.

@shopaholic: Yeah, Monday probably didn't count because of the holiday. Plus you ordered more prints than me and you got the 4x4s. I got 2x2s, which is probably why mine are going to be arriving at roughly the same time as yours, even though I ordered them after you! Yay! So excited!!!
@AprilFool: I ended up ordering almost 150 photos from prinstagram!!! But I got the 2x2s and am planning on making photo garlands around the room (as seen here: http://megoonthego.com/2012/12/miss-kennedys-first-birthday-party/) so I think it'll be okay to have so many!
@AprilFool: Is it weird that it's 5:20 a.m. and that sausage sizzle is making me drool?? Looks so delicious!
@shopaholic: Oh girl, I feel you! You're throwing a big party, so I can only imagine how much more stressful that is over the house party I'm hosting! But don't worry!!!!! People only really care that there's some food and otherwise, they'll be happy to mingle and play with the kids! I always find it helpful to write out lists of everything I need to get done so that I can check things off and make progress. Sometimes I break it down to the smallest detail (dust bookcase, wash mirror, set table) so I can just check check check and it gets me motivated to keep the momentum! Even if you don't get everything done that you wanted to, your party is going to be fantastic!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@Adira: Good luck! It's never too early for a sausage sizzle! I am going to get the 4x4 as well and hang them on the pom pom garlands so I think I might use all 42.
I started the birthday banner tonight and DH made our invites. He made our madlibs last night. I think DHs jobs are finished now and mine have barely started!
Edit - I just tried multiple times to attach a pdf. I think it might be bed time!!

@silver1: a prince crown would be cute! I just ordered a crown for R on etsy yesterday. Going to have her wear it during the cake smash.
@shopaholic: like Mrs. High Heels said breathe! She is right in the end all people care about is food, drinks, cake, and a cute baby! You don't need to have entertainment!! It is a 1st birthday party not an event! You don't have to keep up with the Jones. Or Pinterest. I think it is fine to not fill the piñata and just use a decor.
@AprilFool: that is really cute!!
nectarine / 2631 posts
@shopaholic: Don't freak!! Lets make a list of what needs to happen and I'm sure it will all get done. There have been a few things I was going to do (ie make Lil B a birthday shirt) then decided that the cost to buy the supplies and time it would take- it was more cost efficient to just buy it on etsy! Try and see if you can buy a bunch from one shop to save on shipping charges.
Also- my party isn't until the beginning of April- so I would be happy to help you in any way I can!

@Adira: Ugh! So I have a "Do Not Ring Doorbell/Baby Sleeping" sign and FedEx just left a package slip and said the Printstagram pics were undeliverable. I'm going to go pick them up tonight. I didn't realize you have to sign for the package!
@AprilFool: Umm… that is SO cute! Where did you get that? Is it a template?
@Smurfette: Thanks!
@cheert16: Thanks! You're so sweet to offer!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@shopaholic: i'm waiting for printstagram pics too that i ordered last week based on you and adira's threads! i already ordered basic 4x6 prints from costco, but i think printstagram will make for a cleaner look... don't know why i didn't think of that! i also ordered a photobook from mypublisher of J's entire first year to act as a guestbook.
i hope i don't miss the fedex man cuz i also have a sign up. that's strange they require signing now bc the last time i ordered from them it was an easy drop off.
what helped me with party planning stress was making a list of things i wanted to DIY, BUY/OUTSOURCE, or NONE at all. i didn't want to stress myself out trying to make everything, but i still wanted a few personal touches... then decided to outsource the rest. just looking at a list and saying, "ok i can handle these one or two things" eased my mind and reigned me in rather than overthinking a bunch of jumbled ideas in my head... and i stayed faaaaar away from pinterest!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@shopaholic: also, i can get together with you too to help make stuff! it'll be a good reason for us to finally get together!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Oh! I'm sorry!! I should have warned you!!! I knew they had to be signed for. Hope you're able to pick them up tonight!!
@Mrs. High Heels: I left a note on my door asking them to just leave the package and accept the note as my signature, which I then signed and printed my name. I haven't checked, but according to my tracking info, they left the package! So you could probably do something similar!
ETA: My note said: "FedEx, Please leave package (tracking #XXXXXXX) on the porch and accept this note as my signature! Thank you! Adira"

@Mrs. High Heels: lol! A phot album guest book WAS on my original plans, but I've kind of scraped that due to time. Aww! Thanks for offering! We still need to meet up!!!
@Adira: So smart!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Adira: GOOD IDEA!! going to do that right now.
I'm taking the day off work tomorrow so that I can do any last minute errands that might come up... though I can't really think of much. Maybe I'll just relax and make a checklist so I make sure I don't forget anything!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Good idea to take the day off! This is partly why I decided to host it on a Sunday, so I could have all day Saturday to make sure I was ready! I'm even making my mom come over to help me!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: DH and I are taking the day before as well (Friday) so we can food shop and do some prep while she is at day care. Hopefully then we can get the house, minus balloons, decorated so Sat I won't be running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@shopaholic: @Adira: got the printstagram pics and I love them!
@Smurfette: great minds! yea having Friday off is going to be a sanity saver.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Yay! I'm so excited to go home and look at mine!!!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@Adira: Thats' why we decided on a Sunday party too but DH is taking the Friday off as well for our cake smash so we are hoping to make this as stress free as possible.
@Mrs. High Heels: Yay for being organised.
@shopaholic: We made it! I couldn't find exactly what I wanted so I did the words and DH did the design. Perks of having a web designer husband!

@Adira: @AprilFool: We are also doing Sunday so I can prep on Saturday!!

@Adira: @Mrs. High Heels: @shopaholic: Did you guys have a coupon code for prinstagram? I have all my instragram pics uploaded into a shutterfly cart on the mible app- but it wont let me use a good coupon! grrr
pomegranate / 3983 posts
@silver1: @shopaholic: thanks! drop out with my blessing!
@shopaholic: I really don't think it's necessary to fill the piñata, we just did it because my two year old is obsessed! haha...I would just dress K in any dress that you're liking right now. I really wanted a "special" outfit but then realized that he would look cute with any of the button down shirts we already have, and bam, problem solved.
I am intrigued by all the printstagram talk....off to google...
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cheert16: I did not have a coupon code, but the 2x2s are pretty cheap already!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@dojo: @Mrs. High Heels: I hope both your parties are a huge success this weekend. I can't wait to see pictures!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: So I was just looking up printstagram. And they are cheap so I was going to order some. But I didn't start IG till July/Aug, and I know you weren't on it all year either. So what did you do about the first part of the year?
