@Smurfette: I hope you are having fun out of the house and R is behaving for Daddy
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@NaturallyCathy: Figures! I thought it might be too good to be true!
@Smurfette: Xander has only recently begun sleeping for longer stretches. And really it's only one long stretch at the beginning of the night. And he's not consistent about it. But R is still young - she'll start sleeping a little longer soon hopefully!
I hope you had fun out of the house and that R wasn't too fussy for your husband! But even if she was, it'll be good for him to learn how to deal with her on his own and you deserve some time with friends!

@aprk: @Adira: Thanks ladies! It was fun but I was still so worried about her. DH said she cried off and on for an hour and half. It took that long to get her to take an oz of formula. We are going to try some new bottles, even though she has taken these before.
Girlfriend was up like four times last night. What is annoying is she would eat like 5 or 6 minutes. When she wakes up I try and just comfort her but she starts eating my arm or shirt, so I feed her but I wonder if she really is hungry. Finally at the last feeding, I just let her sleep on me, so we got a good two and half hours.
My brother, sister in law, and nephews are coming to visit this morning. Looking forward to company since DH has a late work meeting. Then we are going to try to go to Target depending on her mood.
What bottles are y'all using?? Do y'all warm up your bottles?
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Smurfette: Dr. Brown's and Tommee Tippee. It's normal for them to change their mind about bottles, unfortunately. Whag may work one feeding may not work the next. Or it may work for a week and switch back. I had problems getting Em to take the Tommee Tippee all of a sudden so we switched back to Dr. Brown's and her dad feeding her and she ate. So far we've gone Avent Classic, Dr. Brown's, Tommee Tippee, Dr. Brown's. we'll see in a little while if she'll take TT again...
@Adira: We lie to orselves that formula works in making them sleep longer because we often forget about the baby quirks of growing. Sorry to break the myth. Yes they're a little fuller but it doesn't always put them in a full-tummy coma like we'd like.

@Smurfette: we used the Medela bottles with a regular slow flow nipple we got from the hospital, but recently splurged on the Calma nipple which we like a lot

Hi everyone,
It's been a rough week over here. One of our beloved family dogs became very ill very suddenly and we had to put him to sleep yesterday afternoon. Although we only adopted him a year and a half ago, he was a real member of the family. He was the goofiest, and most happy, mellow, loyal, loving dog ever. But, he was an old boy- 13+, blind, and diabetic- so, we sort of knew it was coming eventually,. Of course, we are still heartbroken.
It's hard to concentrate on Pete and play with him because I'm feeling so sad all the time. Today I'm taking him on a walk in Central Park, where everything is beautiful and in bloom, and I hope that will cheer us up. I also know I just need to give it some more time. I'm looking forward to the weekend when my husband will be home and we can plan some outings.
On a more positive note, my good friend gave us her Snuggabunny cradle n'swing and it's awesome. Of course. it's sort of enormous in our little NYC apartment but Pete loves it. He could spend hours happily in it, either awake, gazing at the mirror and mobile, or asleep. I highly recommend. I'm trying not to use it all the time, but it has been so so helpful these past few days when I've felt like I needed a few moments to myself.
Also, I think we've been getting a few smiles from Pete this week! They are still so sporadic that I'm not 100% convinced they're legit, but they could be. Smile Watch 2013 continues...
I hope to catch up on the rest of the thread when we're back from the park in a few hours and hopefully in a better mood! And thanks for listening to my sob story. So crazy how these dogs really make their way deep into your heart.

@QueensBee: so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. Pete is smiling just to fill you with some joy - good kid
We are in the land of 45 minute naps - aaaahhh! My husband is still home so I finally just handed A over and took a shower. I am gonna be in for a rude awakening when he goes back to work on Monday.

I feel like I haven't had a minute in the last few days. I'm happy that DH isn't really working for the next few days and will be around, but then next week he heads out of town to work for 8-9 days at a time. That will be hard.
For good news though, last night DS went 4.5 hours between feedings. Of course this was 8pm to 12:30am. I went to bed at nine but could not fall asleep of course.
Yesterday we had our first big car ride yesterday to my work. It is about 35 min each way and DS was a complete gentleman the whole time.
@QueensBee: Sorry to hear about your dog, that is always tough.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: If she was only eating a few minutes, it's possible that every time she woke up, she WAS hungry, since she wasn't getting a full feed in. Would she fall asleep after the 5-6 minutes? Xander does this to me sometimes and I know if he doesn't get a full feed, he'll just wake me up in an hour, so I try to keep him awake long enough to at least finish one side, even if I can't get him to take the other.
I use the Avent Classic bottles and so far haven't had any issues. But... Xander's an easy baby, so that's probably not that helpful to you. And we do warm our bottles. They're not really "warm" after, but more like room temperature.
@QueensBee: So sorry to hear about your dog!!! It's always so depressing to lose a pet, no matter how long you've had them. I had a cat die on me after we had only had him for about 3 months and I STILL get sad thinking about him, and that was 15+ years ago!
That's the swing we have!!! Xander LOVES it!!! When he's being fussy and doesn't want to be held, I put him in the swing and turn it on and he just settles right down! He can be awake in it for hours and just be so chill! He also takes all his daytime naps in the swing. I love love LOVE it!
@aprk: haha, 45 minute naps don't sound too bad to me! Xander tends to nap for 30 minutes with one longer nap! I always hop in the shower as soon as I get him down for a nap because I know it's a race against the clock!
@ALV91711: Oh yikes!!! Sorry to hear that your husband is going to be out of town for so long! Do you have anyone to help you with your son?? Sometimes my husband goes out with friends after work and so I'm alone with the baby all day and night and I find THAT hard. I can't imagine having to do it for multiple days in a row!
How old is your son again? Going 4.5 hours between feedings sounds pretty good! Sorry you weren't able to get much sleep though!

@QueensBee: I am so sorry about your dog. Awesome P likes the swing. We have a hand me down but I wanted that one bur R isnt a fan of the one we have. Hope the fresh air did y'all good today.
@aprk: 45 mins is good. R will sleep 30 mins max unless I hold her.
@ALV91711: That is going to be hard with DH gone. Do you have anyone to come over and give you a break? Mine has be gone 4 days the first week in May. Not looking forward to that. Good job on the sleep and car ride.
@Adira: yes, she just falls asleep after 5-6 mins so I don't wake her. Should I? I really wish she would take the classic Avent since we have so many already.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I would wake her if I were you. Or at least try to keep her awake so she doesn't fall asleep eating. I try to make sure Xander eats for at LEAST 10-15 minutes at night or else I know he will just wake me again in an hungry. Try rubbing her head, arms, palm, feet, and cheek while she is eating (like during pauses) to keep her up and interested. Xander will also fall asleep 5 minutes into a feed if I don't actively try to keep him awake. Sometimes I'll even just burp him to wake him back up.

Hi Ladies! Trying to just skim and read updates on my phone.
@QueensBee: Sorry about your dog. Hopefully extra snuggles with Petewill help. A Central Park outing sounds so nice! I was just thinking about my trip to NYC last Summer when I was pregnant. I wish I could go back just to eat at all the great places! And everyone takes their LOs out and about in the city!
@Smurfette: Glad you were able to go toyour cooking demonstration. I know what you mean about feeling guilty about leaving baby with DH. I feel bad too, but yesterday DH was home early so I was like "Yay! I'm going grocery shopping, cooking dinner, washing dishes and laundry, and taking a shower!" And I felt guilty about it when I could hear K cry, but seriously, it was just normal stuff I needed to do! I'm hoping to get DH to watch K this weekend sometime so I can get a wax and a pedi. It's been MONTHS since I've done any service for myself!
As for bottles, we use Tommee Tippee and the Medela ones that come with the pump. We haven't used a bottle besides for giving milk with Zantac (just a little) in weeks because of the thrush. I can't save any of the milk. But I do notice that she doesn't prefer the bottle - she has to be really hungry to take it (and often I don't do well giving it to her). You might want to switch to the next flow nipple? I did see the Medela nipple collapse a couple of times when giving K her medicine. I think that means she's sucking too hard?
@ALV91711: 45 min. naps sound good to me! We have a 5-10-20 min. napper here!
As for us, Kaitlyn had her first 2 month shots today! I was worried about the 3 shots + oral that I read most people get. Turns out our pediatrician is not in favor of giving so many vaccines at once anyways. He's very pro-choice for parents, but generally likes to follow Dr. Sears's schedule. Since we're going to Europe and on a cruise in a couple of months, DH is definitely pro all recommended vaccines. To be honest, I can't deal with reading all the literature on the topic. I get swayed by both sides too easily. Decided to get all the AAP recommended vaccines for now (my SIL still has me thinking about delayed MMR - be we have a year to think about that) BUT we are spacing them out every 2 weeks. He said we can move up to 2 vaccines in one visit if she doesn't have any reactions.
K was so brave! Only cried out for about 3 seconds and was smiling again when I was dressing her in the room!
She's gained quite a bit of weight! She's up to 9lbs 12 oz. and 21 1/4" long! Dr. is not positive what she has is thrush, but it looks to be stable and we are continuing our treatment as is. She took a long nap (for our standards) ~ 45 min. after nursing. I'm hoping she won't be too fussy or get any fever tonight.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Wow, I'm impressed at how well K took getting a shot!! Good for her!!! Hopefully those 3 seconds will be all that you have to deal with related to this! And awesome stats! She's growing like a champ! How big was she when she was born again?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: DS is 5 weeks. I have an aunt and uncle here, they live right by us, and they will help out.
@Smurfette: Lots of the time I have to stimulate my guy while he is eating or he just drifts off even though he is still latched on.
@shopaholic: That is great that she was so well behaved for her shots. I'm a little nervous for when our time comes.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: Thanks! She's been sleeping most of the afternoon and falls asleep so quickly during nursing. But I'm not too worried if that's the worst of it! She was 6 lbs 7oz. at birth and 5lbs 8 oz. when we left the hospital. She's definitely climbing on the charts from 4-5th percentile to 15-25 percentile for height & weight now! Maybe my mom IS right... she said I was feeding her too much! (j/k! I know she's not fed too much!)
@ALV91711: Thanks!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Wow! 4.5 hours between feedings at 5 weeks is great! I am barely getting that now and it's only happened a couple times!
@shopaholic: Oh wow!!! She's really gained a bunch! That's awesome!! Go K!!! And it must be so gratifying knowing that you're feeding her so well!

@Adira: Last night was the first time it happened. I'm not going to hold my breath on it happening again, especially since he is hating the diapers I have him in. I look forward to shopping tomorrow and getting some I know he likes.

@Adira: HAPPY 2 MONTHS XANDER!!! Cutie pie! I totally realized last week that I never took proper "1 month" photos! I never even ordered the stickers! But I've been doing "weekly" pics at least.
Here's K a couple of days ago:
Ladies - I'm gonna kick myself later today! We've have K sleeping back in her bassinet these past 2 nights (as opposed to lying in bed with us). But I haven't slept at all since her last wake-up/nursing! She is a noisy sleeper, with random cries out, and each time I think it's because she's going to wake up to want to eat. I'll sit up to check, but she'll stop after a few cries. So, I've been up since 4:30 am. I might seriously start thinking about transitioning her to her crib/nursery soon. At least for part of the night if the noisiness continues...
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Oh my gosh, K is so cute!!! Love that picture!
I hear you about the noisy sleeper! I'm thinking we need to move Xander out of his bassinet and into his own room soon as well. I have gotten used to his feeding schedule though, so now, I feel confident that I know when he's hungry or not. But sometimes he's too noisy and I can't fall back asleep. Like this morning, after I fed him at 5:30, he was WIDE AWAKE and just being grunty/chatty and I couldn't sleep until he finally fell asleep an hour later. If you do move K to her crib before I move Xander, you'll have to let me know how it goes!

@Adira: What a cutie!! Can't believe how fast our babies are growing.
@shopaholic: She is getting so big! Those pics are adorable. Glad that she did so well with her shots. R is a noisy sleeper too. I am waiting to move her to room till she loses a night feeding, since her room is on the other side of the house.
We had a great day yesterday, R was awake but sat in her car seat for like 40 mins and we went to Target. Then she started her fussiness around 630. Started getting her to sleep at 830 and we finally get her asleep at 1145. Yes, you read that long. It is a battle. Then she woke up at 12, so she slept 15 mins, I feed her and she was out, then slept 4 hours, feed her, and she was out for a couple more hours. She woke up around 7, and we hang out till 8 and we both feel asleep till 10.
She fell asleep in the car today in the short ride to the park. We walked 2 and qtr miles. She woke up right at the end, then cried the whole ride home. Then we got home, feed her, and then she spit up a ton. Poor thing. But it was nice to get out and walk since it is suppose to rain here all weekend.
We are going to start more of a routine for bedtime to see if this helps. I was in tears last night. I am so tired of fighting with her every single night. Especially when I know that she is tired but she is just fighting it.
What time do y'all start bedtime?
I bought a bunch of bottles yesterday, tried the Tommee, no luck but DH was out, so it was me trying. Going to try it again tonight. My brother and SIL, have a bunch of bottles we are going to borrow, so I can return the ones I bought and see if we can find one she likes.

@Smurfette: we had the same sleep problems last night, almost exactly. UGH. I think I drank too much caffeine and it kept him upz
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Err... we don't really have a bedtime. Xander usually falls asleep between 9:00 and 10:00, depending on what time he gets up. We cluster feed around 4:00/5:00, 6:00/7:00, and then last feeding is 8:00/9:00 and he falls asleep after that and we put him to bed. Bath time is after the 6:00/7:00 feeding (though we only do bath time 2-3 times a week), then a story, then we put him in his swing, but he usually doesn't fall asleep until after the 8:00/9:00 feeding. I'd love to know what everyone else does.
Xander got his vaccinations today!! He did NOT like it! He turned bright red and screamed! But it was probably only for about three seconds, haha. I picked him up and cuddled him and he stopped crying. Then I nursed him just to be on the safe side and he was good to go!

@Adira: can I just say that I am jealous of your easy baby! Glad he settled down right away from his shots. Any other side effects?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Well, he's definitely been fussier than usual this evening. He fell asleep around 7:30, but keeps waking up crying, which he never does! He also has a little bit of a temperature - 99.5 at the moment. Right now he's sleeping on Hubs' lap and seems okay. I'm going to wake him up at 9:30 for his last feeding of the night and then put him in his bassinet and see how that goes.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Aww, poor guy, probably from the shots. Does he normally fall asleep on his own or do y'all have to hold him? R won't fall asleep unless in our arms and then we have to wait 20-30 mins before putting her down. I got her to sleep in 40 mins now just waiting till she falls deeper before putting her down. We will see how the rest of the night goes. Fingers crossed!

Thanks so much for all the sweet messages, March Mama. I’m still pretty weepy over the dog (plus new mom hormones don’t help, I’m sure), but I feel a little bit better each day so I take that as a good sign.
Today we went to our first baby/mom class, “Shake Rattle and Roll.” It’s a music class in our neighborhood. Pete was the youngest baby by far, and he pretty much slept through the entire thing in his k’tan sling, but I like to think he enjoyed the music and dancing in his dreams.
@adira: Happy 2 month birthday to Xander! My, how time has flown! He looks so handsome in that photo! Happy to hear you both survived the 2 month vaccinations.
@alv91711: Welcome to the board!! Isaac and Pete have the same birthday! And I love the name!
I totally hear ya about feeling like you don’t have a minute to yourself… on most days it feels like I don’t stand a chance of catching up on all the posts, especially with a baby in my arms! But, I do always feel so accomplished when I finally get a post up!
Wow, DH leaving for 8-9 days would totally stress me out right now! Do you have any family or friends nearby that can help and provide some company? My DH has a business trip for 4 days, and I am considering asking his mom to stay with me for the weekend, or going to VT to see my parents, just to have some companionship for the time he is away.
@shopaholic: Those photos of K in the tutu are stunning! So glad to hear she survived her vaccinations like a champ! Definitely let us know how the transition to crib goes. Pete needs to be rocked to sleep in his bassinet after his night feed and I am so nervous about moving him to his crib which doesn’t rock.
@smurfette: Glad to hear you had a great day and are making progress with the car seat and stroller! It must feel so liberating to get out and about with her!
Bedtime sounds extremely frustrating though, and we’ve totally had many nights like that. I think we have finally got somewhat of a routine down, which has really only happened in the last three days. We give Pete a bath at 8pm, after our dinner. Then, I give him about 3 ounces of pumped milk in a bottle (we use the Aveda glass bottles with the natural nipples). Whenever I attempt to have him nurse at this time, he seems to fall asleep on my boob and never gets enough milk in him to last a few hours, so that’s why I’ve resorted to the pumped milk. He gulps it down in about five minutes. At this point he is super sleepy, so we put him in the SnugaBunny swing (this has been a lifesaver) with a Soothie, and he is swinging asleep by 9pm. We move him to his bassinet around 10pm which is when I go to sleep. With this routine, he has been sleeping until 3 or even 4am before he wakes to feed. Then he sleeps again from 4-6:30am. I wish I could figure out how to get him back to sleep one more time but for now, we are all up at 6:30am every day.
@arden: Happy One Month to Vi!! Can’t wait to see her photo! Do you have any fun one month props or onesies?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I don't want to tell... you'll be mad at me... Xander usually can fall asleep on his own. Actually, when he's tired, he tends to get fussy if you're holding him and wants to be put in his swing and left alone! So it's very unusual for him to want to be held to sleep! Good luck with R tonight!
@Arden: I can't believe I missed your post! Happy One Month Vi!!! I forget - have you posted any pictures of her? Will we get to see her one month photo?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yeah, I totally stuck my tongue out at you!
@QueensBee: jealous of you too! We keep trying to get her to take a bottle at night and no luck. Going to try tomorrow morning when she is usually at her happiest of the day.
I have to accept it, Reagan is Miss March Maintenance I think everyone else's baby loves the swing but R. Which I don't get cause she loves when we rock/bounce/ swing her when putting her to sleep. Maybe it is the one we have but I don't want to spend money on another if she won't like it.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: on my phone but just wanted to say K does not like the swing either! I'm lucky if we get her to stay in it for even 20-30 min total in a day! I use the bouncy chair a lot more when I just need to set her down for a few minutes. K prefers to be held AND bounced on the yoga ball thank you very much! Lol! She's not terribly difficult but she's no piece of cake either! It takes a long time bouncing to sleep and she cannot fall asleep on her own or ever lying down flat. That's a dream for us to achieve!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: well I am glad R has a BFF in high maintenance land. Although I wish neither of us had to deal with it. I am ready for the putting down half asleep stage or wake stage for sure. Although I do love the cuddles she she is sleeping. I know there is only a small window for those.
honeydew / 7589 posts
@Smurfette: @shopaholic: Vi doesn't care for the swing either, she prefers to be in our arms. Thankfully my Mom doesn't mind holding her for a couple hours every day so I can get things done.
Other than that, she's a pretty easy baby though.
@QueensBee: @Adira: We attempted to get our "official" one month photo today (we're doing a progression of balloons), but it was too windy and the balloon kept going sideways, so we'll try again tomorrow. I did get some cute snaps though!

@Arden: oh gosh! She is beautiful!!!! I love her hair color and her eyes! And that Tea Collction romper! :). Happy 1 month Viviana! Time really flies doesn't it!?!
@Smurfette: lol! As I'm writing this and went out to check on K and DH - she's sleeping in the swing and he's on the couch. :/. Does R get more needy for you than for DH? K will want me more than anyone else already if she can see or hear me. Like she will cry louder or turn towards me if I hear her crying when she is with someone else and I approach them!

@arden: Oh, I remember you posting about this amazing balloon idea on the regular boards. I love it and think it's brilliant- totally something I would pin on pinterest! The golden field backdrop is stunning. I hope the wind cooperates today or tomorrow. In the meantime, the ones you already took are still quite beautiful!
I'd also like to add that your little family has a collection of the most gorgeous glossy hair I've ever seen. You, your husband, and Vi all have such luscious locks!
@smurfette: It does sound like Reagan is a little diva! But, it also sounds like you and DH have a great system of working through it while maintaining your sanity. Plus, she's just so so cute.

@Arden: aww, she is adorable! I love her hair.
@shopaholic: yes, this week, only I can calm her down. DH keeps saying she doesn't like him. But he is only home at night when she is at her fussiness and just more use to me.

Oh my gosh ladies, Xander slept for over FIVE HOURS last night!!! I'm assuming all those vaccinations just knocked him out, but my being able to get a good stretch of sleep in was GLORIOUS! I'm assuming he'll be back to just three hours tonight though.

Morning ladies! So last night Kaitlyn went 6 1/2 hours before eating again! That's not to say that she slept that whole time, DH was with her until I don't know when. I Fedder about 1030 which is a little bit earlier than her normal time, woke up at around four and she was still asleep! DH had her in the swing and she was sleeping so peacefully and worried me I had to touch her face make sure she moved! DH was asleep on the sofa and I just stayed awake waiting for Kaitlyn to wake up to want to eat. After over six hours, I just picked her up out of the swing and brought her to my room and put her in the bassinet. That totally did the trick and she woke up within 10 minutes. Not sure if it was a one time being or if it's this is going to become her regular pattern. But she did cluster feed the hour and a half before her last feeding. Still it makes this mama so nervous that she went so long! And we are up early this morning for it.
