@Smurfette: I second @AprilFool: - we used woombies with great success because she was always breaking free from her other swaddles. she always self-soothed by sucking her hands through the fabric. worked really well for us.

@Mrs. High Heels: well maybe that gives me hope. Although two more weeks sounds miserable! But I am going to hold out hope it doesn't last forever.
@AprilFool: We tried something like that when she was a newborn and she didn't like it. She took a nap for DH with arms not swaddled this afternoon while I got a pedicure, so we will see tonight.

@Smurfette: I'm impressed you got her to nap in her crib! Did she do it more than once today??
And I agree with @Mrs. High Heels about her reverse cycling, though I'm not sure how to fix it, especially when she's at daycare most days!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: just once but this afternoon DH just had her nap on him so he could nap. I know, I am afraid that is it too. Too bad I don't have next Friday off cause the long weekend could have helped.

@Adira: Haven't tried yet. He fed at 8pm and sleeping now, I am scared to wake him! Maybe 10pm ish if he seems restless then.
And my rant for today - ILs visited and they had the baby J as I was busy with some work. I come out a bit later and see everyone incl. DH propped in front of tv with baby.. reasoning was it would calm LO as he was crying!! Needless to say I was mad at DH. We are not planning to introduce tv or any electronic screens at least until age 2 and I thought my DH was on board.. I guess I might break down earlier as I have seen plenty of parents do it (and I have judged them) but 3 mo is freaking too young!! end rant
I guess thatz a topic for when ppl started tv with their kids..
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@silver1: I don't blame you! If you do end up waking him to eat, good luck!! Hopefully he will go right back to sleep after and give you a decent stretch.
Ugh, I know what you mean about the TV. We aren't necessarily planning on introducing it at a certain time, but I think it probably isn't good for them to be staring at it at this young age. It's actually creepy how mesmorized they get by it! I'm trying to keep Xander from watching it too, but both Hubs and my parents have been caught just holding him facing the TV.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@silver1: they are way too young to be watching tv. It drives me nuts when this happens. They have many years of tv watching and screen time ahead.
Tonight DH and I had our first date since Isaac was born. We went out for just over an hour for dinner. It was nice to have some time for just the two of us.

@silver1: R loves to watch TV. She will scoot herself around on her mat so she can see it. We have to move the leather chair to hide it. Now that she likes the toys on her mat she isn't as interested. She always likes to be looking out so we really have to watch she isn't watching it.
@ALV91711: Yay!!!! I need to get my Mom to come sit so we can do that. Been too long.

So last night R was asleep in her crib at 745, she woke up a little after 9. After 10 mins of loud crying, I just out her back in the crib and walked out. We went in after 10 mins, walked back out. She rolled into her side and fell asleep after 20 mins of CIO. Then she woke up 20 mins later, we checked on her twice, but figured out that just pissed her off, so after 40 mins and rolling all over the crib, again she rolled on her side and fell asleep. That was about 1030, she slept till 210, when she woke up coughing. Let her cry for 10 mins and checked on her, she started sucking on my hand so I fed her. She fell asleep nursing but ate good. Then slept till 745. So a better night. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow about her cough.
Oh, she was swaddled arms out. I think that is better for her so she can move around more which she seems to like.
I have to say I am I impressed it was only 40 mins if crying.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@Smurfette: that sounds like a win to me! oh wow, she's already rolling so much!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: she seriously rolled onto her side and then on her back so many times she completely turned herself around in the crib twice!! Now if she would just roll all the way over.

@ALV91711: Yay!! Congrats on going on a date! I still haven't done that yet. Hubs and I went to the movies one afternoon, but we went with my brother, so it wasn't alone time.
@Smurfette: Xander loves the TV too! He's always maneuvering on his activity mat so he can see it. I've taken to draping a blanket over half of his mat so he can't see it, but the other day, he just scooted around so that he could see around it!
Glad to hear that CIO was working for you!!! And swaddled with arms out, that's great! That's how Xander sleeps too, though he often wiggles around enough to undo the swaddle altogether. Hopefully your nights continue to improve!
---
So my brother slept over last night, so we put Xander in his Pack N' Play in our room so that my brother could have the guest room (the nursery and the guest room are next to each other). I'm not sure if it was the Pack N' Play, the different location, or if this is normal, but he was sooooo noisy last night! He woke me up constantly all night long! He wasn't crying, just moving around and grunting. I also woke up once and found him turned 90 degrees, which was pretty amusing. I'm looking forward to him being back in his own room tonight though!

Hi friends!
Sleep training night #2 was moderately successful. He cried for almost the exact same amount of time as night #1 (31 minutes). However, he then slept from 8:22pm until 5:30am without waking up! Our neighbors were having a party and they were shooting off fireworks over the lake and he didn't seem to notice at all!
I just put him in his crib for a nap and he was out after 6 minutes of crying. I hope it will be just as quick tonight.
I've been trying to give him tons of extra snuggles and nursing time during the day, so he still feels loved (I hope!). I also cluster fed him before bed last night with a bottle and boob so that he had a full belly falling asleep.
I do miss holding him while he naps but I don't miss the hour+ of crying that it would take to get him to finally nap in my arms.
@silver1 YES! It drives me nuts when other people hold him in front of the tv. He gets so mesmerized and people think its funny. We are really trying to minimize when the tv is on in our house. However, I'm guilty of having my iPhone out a lot with him. It's hard to not have any screens around when you spend so much time nursing...
@smurfette: 40 minutes is not bad at all!!! Welcome to the impromptu CIO Club! Do you think you might give it another go tonight?
@alv91711: A well-deserved date night!! That must have been great! DH and I ended up playing a one-on-one game of Pictionary last night. Wild Saturday night!
Does anyone have any good summer reading book recommendations? We are at the lake for a week with very limited tv (2 stations) and choppy Internet. I just finished a great book (Land of the Beautiful Forevers) and I'm not sure what to pick up next!

@Adira: sorry he was so loud. When you go away this weekend will he be in the room with you? Is it bad that when R was crying we were laughing at how much she was scooting herself around?
@QueensBee: your success helped me feel inspired. We are going to again tonight. Do you nurse right before bed? She usually falls asleep nursing but that is cause I keep her on the boob for awhile. I think we are going to do it again tonight. That was an awesome stretch of sleep y'all got last night. R was smiling a ton this morning so I kept saying to DH well at least she doesn't hate us!!!!
She napped for 45 mins in her crib this morning. I got her to sleep but it was only 5 mins and she was out. Again now, only I am holding her now. I just got sad about not seeing all day tomorrow so I want some snuggles.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: He'll be in our room when we go away this weekend, so I'll be expecting no sleep again, haha. Oh well.
I hear you about getting in snuggles when you can! I like Xander napping in my arms on the weekend since I don't see him nearly enough during the week!

@Smurfette: I am the same way about snuggling on the weekend - especially on Sunday as the work week is looming.
@QueensBee: That's great that you are having success with sleep training!
We went to our first wedding with baby yesterday and I think it was a success - he was so chill and didn't have any fussy moments! I was so worried that he would be cranky and I would have to leave during the ceremony. He just smiled and was checking out all the people and activity. We also nursed in public for the first time (sort of in public I guess - I did go to sit somewhere a bit more quiet and out of the way) He stayed up waaaaaaayyy past his bedtime but surprisingly let us sleep in this morning (if you can consider sleeping until 8:30 sleeping in - which I do!)
We are still working on trying to sleep a longer stretch at night - I woke him up to feed around 11 on Friday night and he slept until 4:30 so that was an improvement but then last night was so off with going to bed late after the wedding. We will try again tonight and see if we can get a repeat

@dojo: glad the baby was a good wedding guest!
We took Andy swimming for the first time today. He loved it! It was so fun. Our neighborhood baby pool has a canopy to block the sun, which was awesome. We only stay for about 20 minutes, but he is wiped out from all the excitement!

@aprk: swimming sounds fun. We dipped isaac's feet in the lake yesterday for the first time and he seemed to like it.
@dojo: Glad To hear he was a good wedding guest. Hopefully sleeping goes good tonight.
@Adira: Hopefully he isn't to noisy of a sleeper next weekend. At least you know he will sleep in th pnp.
@QueensBee: Good to hear that the sleep training is working. Hopefully it continues to be a success.
@Smurfette: Yay for another nap in the crib!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: what diaper did you use? Oh wait you use cloth. We are going next weekend at the Atl Bee meet up. I need to get her a rash guard since we can't wear sunscreen yet.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: we got an iplay swim diaper, sunglasses and rash guard from target. They were perfect!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: oh really? I will head there! Stupid question, but you put the diaper on instead of another one? Then you just wash it?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: not a stupid question - it confused me too! The swim diaper goes on by itself. It's designed to hold in poo, not pee. That's what chlorine is for, haha. They are super cute girl patterns at our target - for A we just got boring white but it was still adorable. You just wash it in the regular wash and hang to dry. I think the small size works up to 17 lbs or something like that.
I definitely recommend the sunglasses too. A bit easier than the hat that's still too big for his head b

Xander just rolled again front to back!! This time is was obviously deliberate. He kept trying and got 3/4 of the way there, then fell back onto his tummy. But then he tried again and was able to flip! Mama's so proud!
He also started to REALLY laugh. Like out loud fully laughs! It was so cute! When I flipped him onto his tummy, he just started laughing, like it was the funnest thing ever!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: Thanks!!! We have some sunglasses already.
@Adira: aww, go Xander!!!!

@QueensBee: that's an awesome stretch of sleep! so glad to hear sleep training continues to go well for you guys, hopefully the crying tonight is even shorter.
@Smurfette: i'm the same way about snuggles. i let J nap on my chest for his morning nap (2 hours - i passed the time by watching 2 episodes of scandal on my iPad). i know he could've slept in his crib if i put him down, but i just didn't want to. i just wanted to hold him, hear and smell is little breaths, and kiss his cheeks whenever i wanted just by the turn of my head. they're only this small once.
@dojo: that's great he did so well at the wedding - what a trooper! the first time i took DD to a wedding was when she was 2 months old, and she was so fussy and cried so much that i had to leave the reception. we were seated next to the speakers though, so i think the loud noise really bothered her.

@Adira: aww yay!! soon he'll be crawling and walking!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: @aprk: Silly question, what is rash guard?
@Adira: Yay on the rolling!!
Isaac is going pretty far from back to front, but not all the way yet. He has started pausing with his feet and ending his legs and rolling to his side to move all over his play may. It is so cute.

@ALV91711: It is a long sleeved shirt for the pool. So they can't get sunburn.

@Mrs. High Heels: haha, don't say that!! I want him to stay my little baby for as long as possible!

@smurfette: Last night, we started bedtime routine at 6pm (bath, nurse, book), however, he seemed super awake and alert so
I sort of dragged it out until 7:50pm. I probably nursed him three times in that span and also gave him a bottle with 2 ounces of milk in it. I didn't want to overfeed him but I also didn't want him to be hungry at 8pm as I lay him in his crib! I think it's fine if R falls gets drowsy/falls asleep while nursing... at least it lets you know that, despite her protests, she IS tired and ready for bed! Of course, thats just my rookie guess! Good luck tonight- I hope it goes well!
We just put Pete down for a nap but it took 19 minutes of crying, almost double from this morning. I really hope he gets the hang of it by Tuesday night bc my parents are coming in and I know it will be hard for them to listen to. They call him "Prince Peter" and love to spoil him....
@mrs high heels: your little description of snuggling with LO was so sweet and dear! So important to cherish all of those little moments!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I've seen those just didn't know that was what they were called. I'm going to have to get a couple for the summer.
I think it is just too warm for Isaac right now. It seems the last couple days he has been nursing more often and having troubles napping. I'm keeping him inside during the day but it is still pretty warm, especially when he wants to snuggle for naps.
pear / 1718 posts
I don't want to jinx it because I know he could wake up at any minute, and I know that we will still have tricky sleep periods ahead, but Pete fell asleep after only 4 minutes of crying tonight!!
My husband is very calm about it and there 's no one else here with us, but I feel like popping a bottle of champagne and shouting it from the roof! After weeks of tears for hours before bedtime (even if we were rocking, nursing, pacifying, tap dancing...), it feels so good to see my tired baby fall asleep (relatively) easily at bedtime!!
I never in a million years thought I would be a CIO mom but I am a believer tonight. Ferber Fever here, lol.
And now I will go knock on wood, do a rain dance, and pray that he doesn't wake up in five minutes....
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: Oh my goodness, congrats!!! Falling asleep after only a few minutes of crying is amazing!!! Now let's hope he sleeps for a while!!

@QueensBee: yay!!! I hope he stays asleep for you and that tomorrow is even faster.

@Adira: Yay for rolling and belly laughs! I really wish that L would figure out the belly to back roll because he really doesn't like when he rolls onto his belly and gets stuck!
@QueensBee: WOW! That is great! Congrats and knock on wood
We are now obsessed with feet over here. He LOVES his toes. We went in the little baby pool in the back yard today and so he was naked for a while. Something about being naked makes him want to grab at them. He wouldn't leave those toes alone! It was too cute.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Awww, so cute! Xander hasn't discovered his feet yet. I wonder if it's because we keep him in sleepers most of the time, so they're not as obvious...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: woo hoo!!! Fingers crossed for you.
@travellingbee: aww, so cute! R loves to put hers up in the air but she hasn't grabbed them yet.
I nursed R tonight and she fell asleep. I held her for 5 mins and put her down. That might be the fastest ever. I know we need to start waking up her after nursing so she can put herself to sleep. But she had been up for 3 hours, cause I didn't want her to nap at 6. Fingers crossed she stays asleep. She is making noises in her sleep and I keep jumping every time. I just want a good night tonight. Lets start this week off right, sweet pea, Mommy would be really happy!!
