@Smurfette: YAY! So glad to hear that you're FINALLY adjusted to the time change!!!! Hope she feels better soon!

@Adira: Yeah that is R's problem. They said that she won't nap first thing in the AM cause there are too many people coming in and out and she just stands at the crib looking at everything. They have her against one wall but there just isn't another good spot to put our noisy little one. I was impressed she fell asleep at 850 yesterday and slept for an hour. First hour nap in a month probably. I told them to try that early today.

@Smurfette: Yeah, unfortunately, I think our babies are just too interested in what's going on to do their normal naps when they are at daycare! But it sucks because it really messes up our evenings! Now I'm not sure what to do - let him nap when he gets home and wake him up and deal with the screaming then, or put him to bed and deal with the screaming in the morning... I think I'd prefer to deal with the screaming in the evening, haha.

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: If he is waking up at 415, I would wake him up in evening too!

  5. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: LUCKILY it was a day I had to get up at 4:30 anyway, so it was only 15 minutes earlier than normal, but STILL! I definitely think I'll go back to what I was doing before and just deal with the crying in the evening! Of course, if he'd just take his nap at daycare, I wouldn't have to deal with this at all!!

@Adira: he won't sleep on the way home from day care in the car? This is when I am glad that we have her in a school by my work. That last naps saves me.
Although is does backfire. Monday she took a 20 min cat nap at day care, woke up at 420. So when I get her she didn't want to nap, despite rubbing her eyes, yawning in the car, she cried off and on for the 45 min drive home, thanks to an accident.

@Adira: That is an early start to the day. I think I would continue to do a nap when you got home and normal bedtime. Why can't these babies just follow a schedule!!

@Smurfette: I think he might be teething. At least last night was better. He only got up once although I did hear him wake up one or two other times. But we were up for the day at 5:45. Yuck!

I really hope we get two naps today. We have our photos at 4 and I hope to have a happy baby. And especially since we are going to have dinner out afterwards, I don't want a cranky baby then either.

@Smurfette: Our daycare is close to our house so we're only in the car for about 10 minutes! But Xander's not really a car napper anyway. We've been on 2 hours drives scheduled AT nap time and he just stayed awake for it!!

@ALV91711: Sounds like it was a rough night! How was last night? And did you hear back from the builders? It would be so great for you to be settled in by Christmas!

Good luck with the photos tonight!

@Adira: @Smurfette: Pete goes to bed every night at 6:30pm. Maybe that's our problem? What time is Xander's regular bedtime? Like R, Pete only sleeps 1 1/2-2 hours max at daycare so he is totally exhausted by 6:30pm, even if I try to squeeze in a 4:30-5pm catnap. Xander sounds like an all-star napper!

So happy that R is back on track with the time change!

Pete passed out at 6;30pm on the dot but then woke up and screamed from 1-2am again last night. Then slept from 2-6am and woke up cheerful. I hope we can sort out this middle-of-the-night screamfest soon!

I gave Pete some bacon yesterday for the first time. I tried to video his response, assuming that he'd love it, but he had zero reaction so the video is not very exciting! He is really loving greek yogurt with smashed fruit mixed in these days. He pounds his hands on the high chair tray in frustration if I pause feeding it to him for one minute!

Yesterday my daycare teachers (who I adore) told me that I need to send in more food because Pete is still hungry during snack time. This is currently what I send in:
    3 bottles of formula
1 jar of baby food for lunch
1 tupperware of oatmeal that they mix with formula for breakfast
1 package of mum mums for his snack
    (He always finished everything.)

He then has a meal of finger foods at home with me for dinner.

I feel like that's a lot of solids for a little 7 month old baby! What do you guys send in to daycare in terms of solids?

Oh, I forgot to update on the house!

We raised our bid by 10k but I doubt they'll accept it. We definitely lowballed them but that's what we honestly think the house is worth. We could afford to give them what they're asking but we fear that we'll be overpaying and we will regret it when we try to sell in a few years. So, it's hard to show restraint but we are hoping that maybe they'll lower the price in a few weeks if they don't receive other offers that are higher.

In the meantime, another house came on the market in a different town and it looks perfect! Newly renovated, perfect size, and lots of charming original features. Plus, it's walkable to the train which is important for two commuting parents, and there is a great daycare in town. But, (there is always a but!), the backyard is super rocky and tiny. It has a big front lawn but the backyard is basically a stone patio with a table and grill, surrounded by a few trees. No grass or anything. So, we have to decide if we can survive without a dream yard for a while...

  11. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: I give her a bottle between 620-630, usually. Last night I was in the kitchen at 640ish, but it took her till 7 to fall asleep finally. Some nights she passes out right away.
Did you go in his room for the scream feast? If not, it will take 3 or 4 night for them to get the message, Mommy and Daddy aren't coming.
    This is what R eats:
    Home 615: 6oz bottle
DC 815: breakfast - half a banana or oatmeal
    DC 1015: 6oz bottle
    DC 1215: 3.5oz puree
    DC 215: 6oz bottle
DC 415: Package of Mum Mums snack
    Home 530: 2.5oz puree
    Home 630is: 6oz bottle

Keep us posted on the house! We ruled out houses we loved cause of the backyard but that was a top 3 thing for my DH.

  12. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@smurfette: Thanks for sharing your daily food schedule! After comparing them, ours are quite similar, so I feel a lot better than I'm not starving him!

    6:15am 6 ounce bottle
    8:30am oatmeal
    9:30am 5 ounce bottle
    11:00am 2.5 ounce puree
    12:00pm 6 ounce bottle
    1:00pm snack MumMums
    2:45pm 6 ounce bottle
    4:30pm finger food dinner
    6:15pm 5 ounce bottle

I give only 5 ounces for his night bottle because if I give him any more, he pees so much that his diaper soaks through his pajamas and he wakes up a cold, wet mess! Maybe I'll send in more yogurt with his mum mums. I'm a bit nervous sending in finger foods to daycare because of the choking hazard however, they are probably better trained to handle a choking baby than I am. Still trying to avoid it though!

  13. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@QueensBee: I think finger foods are fine. I know there is always a teacher sitting there if any of the babies are eating.

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Xander's bedtime is usually 7:00 - 7:30! And the 2 hour nap at daycare was a total fluke - usually his naps are only 40-50 minutes and he'll do two at daycare and be exhausted in the evening!

As far as food, this is what it usually looks like during the week for Xander:

    5:30 a.m. - nurse
    9:00 a.m. - 6.5 oz BM
    12:00 p.m. - 6.5 oz BM
    1:00 p.m. - 4-5 oz purees
    3:00 p.m. - 6.5 oz BM
    6:30 p.m. - nurse

Though ideally, his evening would be more like this:

    3:00 p.m. - 6.5 oz BM
    5:30 p.m. - nurse
    6:30 p.m. - 3-4 oz purees (or whatever)

I know I've been way, way MIA, even more than normal. I promise to try and catch up soon. And since this thread moves so quickly, but "catch up" I mean read the last two pages and just jump back in.

We're on Day 18 of sick babies, and have thrown in two trips for job interviews for next year, another one next week, and then trying to make some big decisions about where we want to live and whether to accept one of the offers we have or roll the dice and wait on a couple that would be the most ideal if it were to work out. Summary, we are tired and a little stressed, but I really do (guiltily) think about you guys and your LOs and how I miss knowing what's going on.

Hope everyone is having fun getting ready for the holidays!

  16. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Yikes! Sorry to hear about the sick babies! And definitely don't worry about keeping up with us! You have your hands full!!! And @Smurfette and I spend our days at work chatting with each other! But I always LOVE seeing your boys!!! They are sooooo adorable!!

As much fun as Thanksgiving is, I'm REALLY looking forward to Christmas. I think it will be a totally different experience with a baby and I can't wait!! I've already spent way too much money just on festive clothes for Xander, haha.

  17. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I feel like Xander was totally in sync with my boobs today! It was like he knew I didn't pump enough yesterday, so he didn't eat as much! He only had TWO of his bottles at daycare!!! He ended up taking his morning nap (what what!) and slept through his first bottle, so got that one an hour late. That pushed back his next bottle an hour, and then he slept through the third bottle!! He was still sleeping when I got there, so I whisked him home and just nursed him and then we played and then did solids!! It was the PERFECT day (for me)!!

Although I'm nervous that since he missed out on a normal 6.5oz of BM, he might wake up hungry early... guess we'll find out!

@Mrs. Blue: Oh I am so sorry to hear the boys are sick again. Y'all have been busy!!! Exciting and scary moving. Sorry Adira and get chatty so it is hard to keep up.
I am getting so excited about the holidays. I have spend WAY too much on Christmas clothes for R but I can't help it!
@Adira: That is awesome he had a great day and even better night. Jealous! We had major traffic then R just wanted to be held, but I did get some great laughs out of her. Still feel like I got no time with her today. She was asleep by 645.

  19. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Aww, sorry R went to bed so early and you didn't have a lot of time with her! I hate it when that happens with Xander, which is most of the time. These babies need to learn to nap better at daycare so we get to spend more time with them!

  20. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: for real!! But at least I got some giggles. I was sad putting her in her crib, I just wanted to hold her all night. I am going to miss her so much. I already warned her teacher in the AM that I will be a wreck dropping her off tomorrow.

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Is your husband picking her up tomorrow while you go away with your girlfriends? That's going to be rough having to drop her off and then not see her! How long are you going to be gone?? But you're going to have so much fun - just try to hold it together when you're actually dropping R off so she doesn't pick up on how distressed you are!!

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah he is going to pick her up. I am leaving right from work at 3/330. It would be totally out of my way to take her home. We have to check out by 10 on Sunday, so I will be home by early afternoon.

  23. Adira

@Smurfette: At least she's going to be with your husband!! They're going to have such a good time bonding! And you're going to get to SLEEP IN!!!! And DRINK!!! I'm so jealous, haha!

I'll catch up on other things later but I have to say that is the last time we go to a portrait studio for family photos. Everything was good with the studio but DH isn't that great with having his photo taken. So he just wanted to hurry up! We did 22 photos and moist of them were just Isaac. Next family photos I will wait until we are back home and use the photographer we know that DH is comfortable with. Now I have to wait 2 weeks to get them back and I can send out Christmas cards.

  25. Smurfette

@ALV91711: Did they turn out good?? I am waiting for our pictures back so I can order my Christmas cards.

@ALV91711: @Smurfette: You guys are reminding me that I really need to take a picture of Xander! Although he had picture day at daycare today, so maybe they'll have gotten a good shot and I can just use that.

  27. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: Yes, there were a couple good ones of all of us and of course all the ones of Isaac were good. I picked out all the ones to order.

@Adira: Hopefully the school got a good one and you can order some of those.

@ALV91711: Glad you seemed to do okay with the pictures! Funny how you have to worry more about DH than Isaac!

@QueensBee: Good luck with either house! My mom always says the right house that's meant to be, will be yours. I don't believe in paying more than YOU think it's worth. So just trust your own gut. Wow! You are feeding Pete a lot of variety and quantity! I haven't tried any meat or yogurt yet. I never would have thought about bacon.

@Mrs. Blue: Sounds like you have your hands beyond full and a lot going on! Hang in there! Holiday season upon us - everyone's getting busy busy! Hope the boys get well soon!

As for us, I think I'm just going a bit nuts with K's napping. Yesterday she napped 50 min. total for the day. I basically only left the house to go to breakfast/Starbucks for 1/2 hr.

Today, she slept a total of 45 min. in naps. We did have a lot going on in the first part of the day, but I made sure we were home for her first nap, and attempted to put her down 3xs in the afternoon.

Last night, she was up 3xs. I think one time had to do with DH getting up and leaving for his flight at 5 am. Ugh. She's been waking up twice a night to eat. I think it's because she is not really interested in nursing during the day - just so busy and curious. It's so hard to get her to focus on feeding.

If tomorrow is another crap nap day, I seriously think I will lose it. At least I had some ladies and babies over to our house tonight. Kept K entertained and I got some fun adult time.

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: I am sorry K isn't napping. Those days are just so hard. Have you tried putting her down earlier before she gets tired? Are you just putting her in the crib awake? Or are you trying to get her asleep before you put her in the crib? What do you do at night?

  30. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@QueensBee: I can't believe you've tried bacon. We are still on two meals. Generally he nurses twice in the morning, twice in the afternoon and once before bed and then one or two times overnight. Around 11am we do lunch and he eats anywhere from 1oz to a small jar and then dinner around 4:30. He'll eat a few bites of puree and then steamed veggies. Of course some days he adds in another nursing session but not too often.

Bedtime has been about 6:30 and he gets up some time between 6-7am.

It sounds like you will find a house in no time.

Is Pete still screaming in the night?

@Mrs. Blue: I hope the boys are feeling better soon. Sounds like very busy times for you. It is understandable that you aren't around much.

@Adira: Did Xander sleep fine last night with having less milk yesterday?

@Smurfette: Hope you have a great time this weekend! Enjoy sleeping in and some drinks! I'm kind of jealous.

@shopaholic: What is with these babies and not napping?! I hope that she figures it out for you and that your solo weekend goes smoothly.

Isaac is still not taking a morning nap. I'm not ready for one nap a day and I really don't think that he is either. Hopefully he sorts himself out soon!

  31. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: He did!! I was amazed!! I did try to fill him up in the evening though - I nursed him at 5:30, then fed him 4.5 oz of purees at 6:30, and then nursed him at 7:00 to top him off!

  32. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

    @Adira: That is awesome!

I fed Isaac lunch and then we went to do errands and I figured that he would nap when we got home about now. Instead he slept for 40 min in the stroller while we were out. While that is great, I sure hope he takes anther nap today. I'm pooped and planned to have one with him.

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

I forgot to mention that when Xander got weighed today, he was 17 lbs 2 oz! That's actually 13.3% for weight, which is pretty close to where he's been (15-17%), so I'm feeling a little better about his weight! I'm thinking those other weights may not have been accurate since they were different scales than he's usually weighed on, so this weight is more accurate (at least in comparison to his other measurements)!

@ALV91711: Did Isaac ever take a nap? I kind of hate it when Xander takes a short nap when we're on a go and I don't actually get any time to relax!

  34. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: That is good that his weight is consistent. I find that different scales can be a bit different.

He is just waking up from a 40 min nap. Better than nothing. And bedtime us only 3 hours away. I might just have to go to bed early tonight.

@ALV91711: Glad he napped for you! Xander's doing another late night nap for me, so I'm probably going to have to wake him up to eat and deal with the crying!

Ladies its been crazy busy week for me again (whatz new?!) We are currently in middle of renovating kitchen and bathroom and its just one thing after another as these things usually are, I am trying to be zen about it. DH is already stressed out enough for the both of us!! I have so much to catchup on the thread hopefully over the weekend
@QueensBee: Wishing you good luck that you get your dream house!! Do you have a dog or something else so you *have* to have a huge backyard? Maybe if everything else is great and its not a deal breaker..
This is what J eats. Its all at home since we have nanny and timings are approx. we go with flow depending on when he wakes up! I try to make sure he gets 24-28 oz of forumla/bm and I don't worry too much about solids.
    5:30-6:30am: 4 oz bottle
    7:30-8:30am : 4 oz bottle
    10:30am: cereal oatmeal
    12pm: 4oz bottle
    2:45pm: 4oz baby jar food
    3:30pm: 4 oz bottle
    4:45pm: 4oz bottle
6:30pm: 4 oz baby jar food
    7:30pm-8:30pm: 8 oz bottle
In between he has some snacks of mashed banans, grapes during the day. I have tried introducing mum mums no luck. He just likes stabbing himself with the wafer! silly guy!
@Mrs. Blue: Oh no hope you're LOs get better soon!! I don't know how you are doing it. It must be exciting time with offers and decisions coming up. Good luck!!

@Mrs. Blue: Wow, you have had your hands full! I hope those beautiful boys are starting to feel better this weekend and that you find peace with all the big decisions you have to make this week. I hope you'll share the big news about where you end up deciding to work and live when it's all over!

And no need to apologize about falling behind on the thread. You are a complete rockstar for caring for twins, working full time, and finding the time to be an amazingly articulate and eloquent HB blogger. My hero!

@Adira: @silver1: @Smurfette: @ALV91711: Thanks for sharing LO's typical feeding schedule. Makes me feel like I'm not totally off the mark! Maybe I'll send in a mashed banana or scrambled egg yolk for an extra afternoon snack.

@Smurfette: Thinking of you this weekend! I hope you are enjoying the time with the girls. Have an extra vodka soda for me! And at least you have those beautiful family photos to gaze at anytime you miss R. I'm sure she's having a blast with her dad!

@silver1: A lot of the homes we're looking at will need kitchen and bath renovations. It's good to hear that it's possible to get it done with a baby at home. I may need some tips down the line! We're seeing the yardless house today. I should also mention it has extremely high taxes that are almost 1/3 of my salary so that's a bit of a turnoff as well. But the rest looks so perfect!

Also, you've inspired me to try some new spices this week with Pete. We added paprika to his broccoli and chili spice to his ground beef. And some fresh mint to his applesauce! So fun to "spice things up!"

@shopaholic: Hugs to you this week! I would probably go insane if I were home all day with a baby who wouldn't nap. I don't know how you do it! At least it means that her brain is growing in leaps and bounds as she learns all these new skills. I saw your other post about considering a sleep consultant. I have considered Dana Obleman's "Sleep Sense Program," but never pulled the trigger on it. I've heard good things about it though, and it's only about $50 so not as expensive as a private sleep expert. Hopefully it will improve on it's own though once she's mastered these new skills.

Your baby playdate looked so fun the other day!

@Adira: Whoohoo for a healthy weight gain! When is your appointment with the allergist again? This Monday?

@ALV91711: Oh no, the stroller/car seat cat nap is the worst! It always screws up later naps and there's nothing you can do to stop it from happening! Hope he slept well for you last night!

I almost forgot to add that I *think* Pete may have finally adjusted to the daylight savings times change! I mentioned last week that he was waking up in the middle of the night and taking forever to rock back to sleep. So, we implemented a three part plan, thanks to all of your tips and advice:

Part 1. I purposely kept him from falling asleep while drinking his nighttime bottle. Now he sits in my lap drinking his bottle with the lights on and we read stories. When he finishes the bottle, I brush his teeth, turn the lights off, burp him and hold him for about three minutes and then put him in his crib. He's wide awake but so tired at this point. Sometimes he cries for five minutes before falling asleep and sometimes he falls asleep right away but he's no longer using his bottle as a sleep prop.

    2. I pushed back his bedtime to 7pm, from 6:30pm. That last half hour is so hard because he's so tired and cranky. We usually end up walking around the neighborhood with him in a baby carrier to kill the time. It works but is becoming unpleasant as the temperatures begin to really drop at night.

    3. If he does wake up in the middle of the night, we've been ignoring him (wahhh so hard!), and forcing him to cry himself back to sleep.

But, now I have some good news to report! Last night, he slept from 7pm-7am with zero wakeups and zero crying! He put himself right to sleep and woke up at 7am a happy and rested baby! Yippee! I really really hope it wasn't a fluke and that tonight is similar.

However, afternoon naps are still a disaster. No idea how to improve those.

Oh my gosh, so happy to hear about your success with your sleep training!!!! 12 hours straight is AMAZING!!! Xander, the awesome sleeper that he is, has NEVER done that! I hope for your sake it wasn't a fluke and he will do a repeat tonight!

@QueensBee: Have fun looking at the house today. That seems like a lot for taxes. So awesome that Pete slept 12 hours! I'm jealous.

We are back to two wake ups to eat. I genuinely think he is hungry. The last couple days he has been eating more at meals and nursing 1-2 extra time. This morning he woke up at 7 and nursed then about an hour later he was acting like he wanted more. So I brought him downstairs and made up some cereal with fruit and he gobbled up quite a bit. I guess this means we will be doing three meals now. Hopefully more food will help him sleep better at night. If not I think we will have to go the ignoring him route in the middle of the night. I need some sleep.

We are forecasted to get 1-3 inches of snow today and it looks like 3 inches have fallen when we got up and it is still coming down hard. Good thing we don't have to go anywhere this weekend.
