HAPPY BIRTHDAY REAGAN, ELLIOTT, and FINN!!! What a wonderful day of March celebrations!!!

@Smurfette: Poor girl. But she looks like she enjoyed her cake!

@Smurfette: WTH? "R walked … sat at the table" what what what? She is just all toddler already!

O.M.G. I basically had a meltdown and called DH at work to rant for 1/2 hr.

K napped ONCE, less than an hour, today. I spent over an hour to try and get another nap in. Full blown hysterics. I actually thought she was in pain. Stripped her naked even to check! DH thinks she will be one of those kids who entirely won't nap by 18 months. She was awake for 8 hrs straight yesterday. Everything is being suggested as a reason: Daylight Savings change, teething, not tired… I think maybe it could be a milestone? Like maybe she's almost about to walk? I read that is another reason for a big regression?

Anyone with walkers can confirm if this happened before walking? I'm at my wits end with naps. Every month, it's like it gets better, sucks again, gets better, goes to crap.

Things have been busy lately so just hopping in and catching up.
@Smurfette: Happy Birthday R!! Aww sorry she has fever hope she is feeling better soon!! And what is the walking and sitting at table and doing crafts?!! that is so advanced!! J is still very much a baby crawling and putting everything in his mouth
    @Mrs. Blue: Happy Birthday dudes!!!
@travellingbee: Aww poor L hope he gets better by weekend and you can have a nice trip.
@shopaholic: wow thatz tough with not napping. Can't imagine a baby not napping at 18 months!! I would go crazy!! I want J to nap atleast until he starts pre-k!!! He is not a walker yet so no clue. Lately his naps have been all over the place as well, today he had 2 naps 45 min each and timings were way earlier than his usual time.
J has been having a cough since the weekend and I think he is almost over it. He seemed to have a bit of runny nose though today and I am hoping it clears on its own. I have not done snot sucker since he was a few weeks old. That one time I got so traumatized with screaming I have not gone near his nose since and don't want to if I can avoid it.

@shopaholic: I am sorry!!! I don't know why she won't nap. What does the pedi say? I have never heard of a 18 month old that doesn't nap. Could you be missing her cues? Then she is overtired? Has she taken any steps yet? Maybe try and stay home for a couple days so she isn't as stimulated and see if that helps? R hasn't been sleeping great for awhile but I know it is cause of teething. I don't remember in Jan, when she started taking steps, that it impacted sleep. She did have a 4-5 days where she fought the 2nd nap BAD at day care and home but then went back to normal. Hugs!!
Seriously she acts like a little toddler! I am dropping her off late today after her pedi visit so I am excited to see her play in the toddler room with her friends!
@silver1: I hope his runny nose clears up too! I hate having to use the Nose Frida too!
    @shopaholic: @silver1: @dojo: Thanks! We had a good night!

@Smurfette: Awww, poor R!!! Was she feeling better later in the day? She looked in a good mood eating her cupcake!

@shopaholic: Boooo! So sorry to hear about your sleep issues!!! I have no advice! Do you think maybe she's just missing her "sleep window" and gets overtired and then fights it??? If you just let her NOT sleep, is she in a good mood??

@silver1: I'm with you - I avoid sucking the snot out! We usually just try to use a tissue with Xander and get whatever's at the end. So far it hasn't been too much of an issue - a stuffy nose hasn't affected his ability to nurse, so I'm just thanking my lucky stars and keeping the snot sucker away from him!

Which totally reminds me! Hubs and I (and Xander) have all been sick lately, so we've been wiping Xander's nose with a tissue and blowing our own noses, etc. Well, Xander has connected the dots and whenever he finds a tissue (or a napkin), he'll pick it up, hold it to his nose and mouth, and blow in it! Not with his nose, haha, but he'll make a rolling "brrrr" sound with his mouth. It's sooooo funny!

@shopaholic: @Smurfette: Mrs. Train's twins stopped napping at 18 months!! I just can't even . . . oy. Hope K will discover the magic of napping!

  8. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah she fined to us. She was tired cause she took one nap and had been up since 130. But at least it was a god nap. She sucked down some pedialyte and then formula before bed.

    R weighs 19.15lbs, so let's just say 20lbs! 28.5" tall. 50% and 40%.
The pedi said ideally 12-24ozs of milk a day. But if she doesn't want to drink milk that is fine just make sure she has enough cheese and yogurt. She said that if some days she won't drink during that day that is fine. She will drink when thirsty. She did drink 6ozs formula this morning. The shots were rough this time. Big huge tears.
@Mrs. Blue: What!? That is nuts!

  9. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Woohoo!! Those are great stats! Healthy girl!!

And I'm surprised about how much milk the pediatrician suggested!!! Though maybe 1 year olds need more than 2 year olds (based on all the nutrition info I've found, 2 year olds only need 16 oz of dairy a day).

How many shots did she get?

@Mrs. Blue: My SIL's daughter stopped naps at 18 months too! But then my BFF's daughter still takes one nap a day at 4 years! What!!!!

  10. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: No way R is going to be close to 24ozs! But she can put down some cheese so I am ok with it.
3 shots! One in each leg and then the chicken pox was in the arm. The pedi warned us at 15 and 18 months they know the doctor and those are even worse. Great!!

  11. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh, 3? That doesn't seem too bad! Xander's gotten 3 before. I'm nervous about how he handle it this Friday when we go. In the past, he'll scream while it's happening, but then calm down pretty quickly. How was R?

Did you talk about anything else at your appointment? Did you ask about whether you should use a flouride toothpaste with R?

  12. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah we had 3 before too. I just don't remember tears this big before. She calmed down after we got her dressed and DH held her while I checked out. I was nervous cause it was the first time we didn't stick a bottle in her mouth after.
She said that we don't have to be so great about teeth brushing till 18 months. But start working on it. Right now we are back to brushing with a wash cloth 2 times a day. She doesn't fight as much that way.
We talked about her sleep but she said that their isn't really much R needs to work on before 15 months. Said that she was doing great.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Glad R got such rave reviews! I'm nervous about our appointment since Xander's not eating table foods AT ALL yet. I'm worried about what she'll say or think about us! I'm also nervous about the shots because Hubs has to work so it'll just be me there! I hope I can calm him down!! And glad to hear your pediatrician isn't too worried about teeth brushing yet!

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: They did ask if she was on a bottle still, formula or milk, and if she was eating table food. The nurse was impressed when I said that was all she was eating. So I guess that means plenty of 1's old are still on purees like Xander.
When I dropped R off, she went to the toddler room and there were 3 kids still drinking bottles. I know the teacher said R eats better then some of the 18 month old, that a couple still are on purees. So I wouldn't worry to much about it. When is your appointment?

  15. Smurfette

She has a 100 fever damn shots.

  16. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Thank you! That definitely makes me feel better! I'm hoping my pediatrician agrees that it's okay that he's still on purees! And hopefully she'll have some advice on how to get him into table food. He keeps PRETENDING to eat puffs (picks them up, puts them into his mouth, chews them, but then spits them out) so I feel like we're CLOSE, but definitely not there yet!

    Our appointment is Friday!

Sorry to hear that R has a fever! Stupid shots. I guess it's good we're getting our shots on Friday so he has the weekend to recover. Do you need to go pick up R at all because of her high fever?

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: No, 101 you have to come get them. She just called to give me a heads up. I brought the Tylenol with me and meant to go ahead and give it to her when we got to day care and I totally forgot.

@shopaholic: I hope napping is going better today. It makes for a long day when they don't want to nap. My mom has told me that I stopped napping at 18 months, I hope this isn't the case for K.

@silver1: I hope J's cough and runny nose are gone.

@Smurfette: I can't believe how much grown up things R does! Great stats, hopefully she is feeling better from the shots soon.

@Adira: That is so cute that he is pretending to blow his nose.

My mom got here yesterday and it has been so much fun. Isaac is having a lot of fun playing with his grandma. My oma sent money with her for Isaac's birthday so she could take him shopping to pick out a toy. So today when we went to get groceries Isaac spent his money. He got some cars, little people and a summer outfit. He is loving to push the cars around.

Since Isaac slept through the night the next two nights have been down hill. He is waking up angry in the middle of the night and screaming. DH is the only one that can calm him, I just make him more mad. But he has gone six nights without nursing in the night, so that is a plus.

@ALV91711: Bummer about the regression with the sleep! But hopefully it's just a minor set back and he'll be back to sleeping well again! And that's awesome he has been able to make it through the night without nursing! That definitely is progress!!

@ALV91711: sorry to hear about the regression, but yes... definitely a plus that he's stopped night nursing... a step in the right direction! hope he surprises you and sleeps through the night tonight!

noelle had a fever of 102 last night so we kept her home from school today. last night she woke up every hour coughing, needing medicine, needing water, milk, wanting to go potty, etc. i don't know how i survived today at work. DH asked to work from home today so that he could watch her and work. luckily she's been pretty happy watching tv right next to him.

it just sucks because me, DH, and jaren have been sick the last 2 weeks and we were finally coming out of the woods, and now this. we're all probably going to get sick again. since we've all been sick i haven't even been able to visit my sister and newborn nephew since she gave birth in the hospital. i was really hoping to visit this weekend, but since my house is a giant petri dish, there's no way i can go near a newborn. sigh. i just want us all to have a looooong stretch of healthiness, is that really too much to ask?

@ALV91711: So glad your Mom is there for the birthday fun!! I am sorry about the sleep. I hope he gets back on track!

Y'all these shots suck!!! She had 101.6 fever tonight. I guess cause she was walking all day she didn't even want us to put her down tonight. Any pressure on her legs and arm =bloody murder cries. So fussy and tired. You could just look at her and see that she didn't feel good. I gave her the bottle back in her room with the lights dimmed. Luckily she drank most of it and then fell asleep with me rocking her. I hope she wakes up my happy smiley baby!

Last night was rough!! She woke up at 1, finally at 3 I tried her laying in bed with us. She finally fell asleep at 330, and woke up at 5 screaming. Couldn't calm her down so more Tylenol at 530. Bottle at 6 and lucky she feel asleep for an hour. I am so tired. We are playing in bed cause I sent DH to the couch (no sheets on the guest bed) cause he was snoring so loud and makin her jump. All three of us are so congested. Staying home with her today. Fingers crossed for first nap!

@Adira: He did a little better last night, no screaming fits.

@Mrs. High Heels: I hope you are all feeling better and that you get to go have some snuggles with your nephew soon.

@Smurfette: That is a tough night. I hope she takes some good naps today and starts to feel better. I hope you get a nap today too.

Our guest list for our birthday party has just dropped drastically. It looks like there may only be 5 of us, that includes the birthday boy. My MIL can't come out now as her mother is very sick in the hospital and so DH's aunt flew home to be with them. Then my friend and her daughter may not make it as her son made it to the provincials for bball and it is this weekend, so it just depends how far his team goes.

I guess this means less cupcakes to decorate.

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry your party count has totally dropped down and not very many people will be able to make it! Luckily these kids are so young, they won't even know the difference and will have fun no matter how many people are there! I hope you're still able to enjoy the day!

So not R's day. She doesn't have a fever and is in a better mood. I went to rock her a little before a nap and I see blood on my shirt. Her gums, top middle teeth area, are bleeding. We have no use how it happened and it didn't seem to be bothering her. But she was pissed when I tried to clean her up. And she just woke up after a 20 min nap:( this sucks!

@ALV91711: Oh no sorry about people not making it. I hate it when ppl dropout at last minute hopefully you have not gotten too much food etc. but I am with @Adira the b'day baby only needs his parents to have fun and good time hope you have a great day and lots of pics too!!!
@Smurfette: Oh no atleast she is not in pain and hopefully her gums are better now. Poor R
We took J to doc as cough is still going on almost a week now and he has not been eating solids but doc said its just a common cold and nothing to worry about. I was so relieved. We also got his weight and height checked and its 22.5 and 31inches!! I have chalkboard stats In evening just as cough was getting better, our cat scratched J and he started crying hysterics. Nothing major but I felt so bad and worried he would start coughing again Our cat is a sweetie and J is still learning to be gentle. Mom fail need to keep a closer eye on both!

@Smurfette: @Adira: I think Isaac will have more fun with less people.

@silver1: I'm glad it is just a cold. What a big guy. Getting a scratch will probably help him to learn to be more gentle.

This afternoon was wonderful. My mom babysat Isaac while I went shopping and got a pedi. He even took a good nap for her.

Stats update from Xander's 12 month well visit!

    Length: 30 inches (50th percentile?)
    Weight: 20 lb 2 oz (20th percentile)
    Head: 46.8 cm (60th percentile)

My baby is gaining weight!!!!!! Hubs is going to be sooooooooo happy to know that he's up in percentile!!! Woohoo!!!

He also got FIVE shots. Poor baby cried and cried! But by the time we left, he was totally happy and smiling! He has a slight fever (99.3) and I gave him some Tylenol because the pediatrician suggested it and now he's napping.

Our pediatrician didn't mention using a flouride toothpaste and said it was fine to continue just using water or to get an infant toothpaste. And she suggested a dentist visit anytime between now and 3 years.

As far as milk, she didn't have a preference on what kind I used, but wanted me to look at the fat and vitamin D content of whatever we go with. And she suggested 16-24 oz (and was totally fine with him being on the lower end). And she said it was totally normal that he's not out of purees yet and just said to keep offering things and that he'll get there eventually.

Overall a great visit!! Although we'll see how all these shots affect him!

@Smurfette: I'm soooo relieved he's gaining weight! I was worried, though I feel like we feed him a TON, so it makes sense, haha. He napped for 2 hours, but now seems in a good mood, so I don't think the shots are bothering him YET. We'll see how tonight goes...
