@shopaholic: Woohoo!!! Happy Birthday K!!! Are you girls doing anything special??

So far bottle weaning is not going well. According to daycare, when they give Xander his sippy, he just shakes it around and spills milk everywhere (although why they aren't using a leak-proof sippy after sending the Zoli home, I have no idea). He maybe drank 1 oz yesterday and nothing the day before. *sigh*
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I think that we have to just trying. One day they have to get it. R actually drank 5ozs of milk yesterday, so I think she is catching on.
R starts the transition to the toddler room next week! One hour on Monday, two on Tuesday, and so forth. Thursday will be the first day she naps there. I am nervous cause she normally naps starting 930/10 and that is when she is going to go over there each day....I need to ask her teacher about that.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, every time the daycare teacher tells me about how he won't drink, I'm just like "Oh, that's too bad.. he has to eventually!" LOL - they probably think I'm useless.
I still can't believe R is changing rooms!!! They grow up so fast! I would definitely talk to them about the timing and her naps. And does she usually do two naps a day? How many naps does the toddler room do? Hopefully it all goes smoothly for you!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yeah she normally does two naps a day. She has done one a couple times, cause she won't go down, feedings, and pooping and she does fine with it. Cause then she will take a longer one.
I don't think that there will be much they can do. Everyone in the school does the same schedule, so that way they have teachers to cover the numbers in each room. So she visits Toddler 1, and another kid visits Toddler 2. Make sense?
I am still going to ask. I don't think she is going to go from the toddler room, to right away napping, but I could be wrong. Wed she will nap when we leave the doctor in the car to day care. Then will be back in the infant room for her 2nd nap. So Monday and Tuesday will be the iffy days. At least DH will be home to help me with her at night.
This room is 12-18 months. And they nap 1130-230 (but I think that includes time for setting up the cots, etc) I need to get more scoop!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Hmm... I'm curious how the transition will go!!! Maybe once she's finally napping when everyone else is, she'll actually take good naps at daycare! But I guess you'll find out soon. Maybe the whole transition will go better than you expect! And your daycare must be bigger than mine to have a room dedicated for 12-18 months! Our infant room has 6 weeks up to 2 years! Though it's separated with a gate so older mobile toddlers don't run over immobile little babies!
Lately Xander's been skipping his afternoon nap and only getting 1.5 hours tops of sleep. Yesterday he was awake from 11:30 to 6:30!!!!! I felt so bad!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I was happy yesterday, R took 2 1r hour naps. I think she is ready for one nap only cause when she naps till 330/400 she isn't ready for bed at 7. Yesterday she didn't fall asleep till 745. I really do think everyone napping is going to help her.
I think the transition will be easy for her. 1) They already take her over there sometimes. When I left yesterday, she was playing over there since they had no kids yet. 2) One of the infant teachers, moved to that room two weeks ago. So it is a friendly face. 3) She knows the other main teacher. This morning we saw her in the hallway and R walked right up to her for a hug.
6 weeks to 2 years is a big gap. I am surprised they do it that way. Naps, eating, playing are all so different.
Do you think X is ready for one nap? Or just a phase?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yay for R's naps yesterday!!! Although I hear you about the late naps! Regardless of when Xander wakes up from his last nap, I try to have him in bed between 7:00 and 7:30, though sometimes it takes him a while to fall asleep. At least he's content to just roll around for a bit on his own!
As for our infant room, it's one room, but it has a railing with a gate separating it into two different areas. One area is for "Infant 1" which is the young babies who aren't walking. The other area is "Infant 2" and is for the toddlers really! Then off of that room are two separate sleeping areas - one for the Infant 1s and the other for Infant 2s. But as far as I can tell, the Infant 2s (toddlers really) don't have a set nap time either and some might still do two naps a day and some might be on one! They don't all nap together until they move up to the Toddler room, which is 18+ months.
I don't think he's ready for one nap - I think it's just a phase! It could also be because he's teething, but I'm not sure. He took two naps just fine over the weekend and definitely seemed tired when I picked him up last night!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: So it basically is two rooms. I wonder they don't have them separate.
Yeah it is going to be much harder on R at home taking one nap. Not sure how we are going to keep her busy. The first Sat will be the day of her party. So hopefully we can keep her up till 11ish, and then put her down. Since the party is at 2 and I know she won't get a 2nd nap that day.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I suspect they don't have it separate so they can have less teachers, maybe? So if there are 6 Infant 1s and 6 Infant 2s, they only need 3 teachers to maintain the 4:1 ratio, whereas if they were in separate rooms, they'd need 2 teachers per room. Just a guess!
We kept Xander up because of his party! He was ready to go down at 9:00 for a nap, but we kept him up until 10:30! And then he still had to go down for his second nap during the party, haha. We just kind of rushed through everything to fit it all in within his awake time! I'm betting that R will be so busy and so interested in what's going on though that she will be fine!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I can't believe she will be going to the toddler room. Hopefully the transition goes smoothly.
@Adira: He will eventually drink his milk from a cup. You can't give in a give a bottle. They should be used to dealing with this and really just give him a leak proof cup.
So we started sleep training last night for the MOTN wake ups. The first time he woke up was 11 and then every hour for the rest of the night. Most of the wake ups he was back asleep in under 10 min. At 1am he was awake for almost half an hour. All these times was minimal crying/fussing. Then he woke at 4am. There was screaming, crying, fussing. Finally I got him out of bed at 5:30 since I figured he was probably hungry from not nursing at all last night. So he made it 11 hours in his crib, I'm just hoping tonight he wakes up less times.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Rough night! That is good that most wake ups were under 10 mins. I hope tonight is less wakeups! Did he never go back to sleep after the 4 am wake up?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Yikes! Rough night! But was that 11 hours of not nursing?? Because that's pretty good! Hopefully tonight will go better!
Update on Xander's sippy! Yesterday he drank 4 oz from his sippy during daycare!!!! Woot woot! And since his afternoon nap ended up going until 5:00, he didn't get his last bottle at daycare, so I put it in a sippy (Zoli straw cup really) when we got home and he drive 5 oz!!!! Progress is being made!!!
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
@ALV91711: hang in there, it sounds like good progress! 11 hours without nursing is a great stretch. hoping tonight is a better night.
@Adira: good to hear about the sippy's! and jaren went through a one nap phase right before he turned 12 months too. i thought he was ready to drop a nap, but then he started taking two solid 1.5 hour naps consistently again so it was definitely a phase for us...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: That is awesome!! R only drank 4ozs total yesterday. I think I am going to cut the night bottle this weekend and see how she does.
@Mrs. High Heels: He is still taking two then?
I am getting nervous about R going to 1!

@ALV91711: good luck with the MOTN wake ups!!
Ever since Christmas when we were traveling, K will wake up after approx 11 hours and cry until she has a bottle and then will sleep for another hour or two. Right now I'm fine with it, but am not sure what to do when we wean her off formula. Give her a glass of milk while she's half asleep?
I'm stressing about the transition to WCM. I've tried to give her WCM twice and she's flat out spit it out both times and she never does that with anything. She's totally disgusted so I may have to mix formula with milk for a bit.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: Oh, I should have mentioned that too about the naps! He took two solid naps yesterday as well, so I think it must've just been a phase!
@Smurfette: Yikes! Is that 4 oz of ANY liquids?? Or is she getting stuff elsewhere??
@sheskrafty: Xander was the same when I tried to give him hemp milk. He did NOT like it. I'm planning on trying to do a slow transition of mixing BM and hemp milk until it's all hemp milk!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: That was just milk. She drank 5 ozs formula that morning, 3oz bottle at night, and then probably an oz of water all day. I don't get it! I am hoping today will be better.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@sheskrafty: I am just jealous she will sleep for 11 hours. I miss those days.
I would try mixing as well.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Do you think the issue is when they are offering the milk to her? Would she be more likely to drink more if she's offered the milk before solids instead of with or after?? Or would she drink some if she could have it on hand while playing? I don't know if they can do that at daycare, but that's what we do at home with Xander - we just leave it out for an hour while he's playing and he'll keep coming back to it and drink some.
Also, she's not getting constipated or dehydrated at all, is she??? I'd be worried about that with her drinking so little during the day...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: They give her the milk with meals. But honestly at home a lot of time we have to hold it up to her to drink, otherwise she just wants to eat!! They started giving her water between meals but it is hard cause they have to keep on the counter so the other kids don't get it. So not like R can just go get it and drink like she does at home. We keep it out at home too. The other night I got there and R must have dropped the cup and was playing and another little girl was drinking R's water.
I am worried about dehydrated at well. Her diapers aren't as full these days. And she had a couple dry ones this week. But she won't drink anything. She dropped her day bottles, not us.
We don't have constipation issues, at all. 2-3 times a day still.

@Smurfette: I meant to give you (and anyone that does any solo parenting) incredible props for solo parenting during the week. DH was in Boston for work last week and I finally realized how challenging it truly is!! DH normally handles the daycare drop off/pick up and just adding that into the routine was exhausting. My hat is off to you Super Mama!!
@Adira: That relieves me Xander didn't like his hemp milk either. Hopefully all the March babies will start to like and drink good amounts of their milk soon!!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Hmm... could you ask them to try giving her the milk before they give her food? Like maybe put her up at the table to eat, give her her milk, and then maybe 5-10 minutes later give her food?? Not sure if that would work, but that's what I often do with Xander at home to make sure he drinks! Because once he has food, he has no interest in drinking either!
You have a pediatrician appointment next week, right?? I guess I would ask your pediatrician about any suggestions to get R to drink more... I have no advice. Especially since daycares can't just let them have milk out while playing.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Oh no, no sleep here. He went for a nap at 7:30 and woke up after 20 min screaming. I'm going to give him lunch a bit early and hopefully he'll have a nice long nap.
@Adira: Yes, 11 hours of no nursing. He has never done that before. And this morning he didn't nurse more than normal or eat more breakfast. So I think the night nursing sessions lately were more to put himself back to sleep.
@Mrs. High Heels: We have two or three mornings a week were he won't take a morning nap. I look forward to one nap a day.
@sheskrafty: That is nice that she goes back to sleep for a couple more hours.
@Adira: I'm glad he drank some yesterday.
I leave Isaac a sippy of water out all day too, that way he can drink when he is thirsty.
@Smurfette: My ped said to offer the milk more towards the end of the meal. But to me then he won't drink that much. I guess it is because she wants him to fill up on food and not milk.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@sheskrafty: Yeah, I've heard some babies just take to WCM like it's candy and have no issues making the switch! But others, you have to do a slow transition with mixing, so that's what I'll be doing with Xander and hemp milk! And you might have to do that with K and WCM!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@sheskrafty: Aww, thanks!! It is super challenging some days but R and I surviving. But you better believe I am glad that DH is home till St Patty's Day!
@Adira: We have done that a couple times at home and she won't drink more then a sip. She wants her food! I can have them try again. Maybe when she sees the other kids all drinking in the next class it will help. They get two snacks and lunch together. I need to ask about that.
Yes, Wednesday and milk is the first question on the list.

Thanks ladies for the birthday wishes! K was acting lethargic and really not herself. She was poking her ears so we went to the ped on her bday. No ear infection thankfully. She just seems really tired, probably because she keeps waking herself up coughing. We've been co sleeping all week which worries me about getting back to normal crib sleeping. But she just screams if we put her in her crib. Even in our bed, she wants to sleep on my arm. And her head is always moving around on my head on the pillow rolling around. I have bags under my eyes! Lol
Still she had a decent afternoon nap so we took her to downtown Disney and rainforest cafe for dinner. Took forever to get a table so she was out for an hour past bedtime. DH went back to the office to finish some work and he came home at 10:45 and k was still awake! Well, it was her birthday! She loved the fish at rainforest but got scared by the elephants and gorillas during each "show". Still not herself, she didn't even want any toys at the big Disney store! We got her a couple of books instead.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, maybe moving to the toddler room will be good for her! I have no advice! Hopefully your pediatrician will give you some good tips or something! It's so hard sometimes having them at daycare because they have certain rules they have to follow which limits options! Like at home, I can just leave Xander's water (or milk) out for a bit and he'll drink it on his own while playing, but they can't do that with all the kids at daycare!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I hope tonight goes better! Do you think he is ready for one nap?
@shopaholic: Sorry she isn't feeling good. Hopefully she gets back to herself soon!

@shopaholic: Happy birthday K!!! Aww sorry to hear she is not well. Hope she feels better soon. Glad to hear you went out and had some fun at the show!
@Smurfette: Sorry no advice on the milk. J would rather drink milk and not eat anything! My only thought is perhaps you can try a pudding or something milk-based maybe smoothies? not sure if she is too young for that. Re water, we usually give him water along with his lunch/dinner, give a sip every few bites. We use a born free sippy and he loves it!
@sheskrafty: We mix formula and WCM. I think WCM has a strong taste and it would take sometime to get used to.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@shopaholic: That sounds like a fun birthday treat. Hopefully once she is feeling better she will sleep in her own bed. Sounds like she just wants her mama.
@Smurfette: I don't think he is ready for one nap. The mornings that he misses his nap or it is super short he usually has a melt down by lunch time.
Last night was so much better. He went to bed early at 5:45. He woke up at 11 and 3 and was back asleep in less than 5 minutes. Then he woke up about 4:15 and he was just hungry. I nursed him since it had been about 11 hours and he went back to sleep until 5:45. He is so much happier this morning.
I think that the timing is just right this time and he is ready to not eat in the night. I on the other hand had a hard time staying asleep after 2am. I'm going to have to sleep train myself.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: So glad that it was better!!!! I hope the trend continues tonight!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: I hope so too.
I'm really hoping this time change doesn't muck things up for sleeping too badly. Isaac didn't go down until 6:45 tonight, so who knows what time he will get up tomorrow. I keep thinking my monitor isn't on as he hasn't made a peep since going to bed.

@Smurfette: @ALV91711: Thanks ladies! Last night was good! We were back to our normal go to bed (in the crib) routine without any tears. Tonight - we're still working on it and it's almost 10pm. DH is rocking her now. It's so weird because she hasn't wanted to be rocked in so many months, like 6 months?
@Smurfette: Have you tried putting a little bit of juice in her water to entice her? Our ped suggested that when she was sick. IDK if that's helpful. K will drink water more than eat food.
@ALV91711: Hope he sleeps well for you tonight!

@ALV91711: Soooooo glad to hear your night was better!!!! He's definitely making progress towards sleeping through the night! so excited for you! How was last night?
So I did my LAST 9:00 p.m. pump last night!!! I'm sooooo excited to not have to pump that late anymore! Especially because I'm sick so now I can go to bed early if I want! I'm just nervous about how engorged I'm going to be tomorrow morning... wish me luck, ladies!
