@naturallycathy: Like @adira, we had our baby girl's first name picked out before we were even thinking about having a baby...before we were married, even! We were in a touristy shop in Daytona beach, and looking at all the mugs. We decided that we would name our kid a name that was common enough (spelling, too) to be on one of those mugs, but uncommon enough to stay off of the yearly lists in January. So, we picked Stacy.

The middle name was harder, and it's simple, like you said you like...Marie. I'm not crazy about it, but I gave myself some sentimental reasoning why it's a good middle name (my middle name is Mary, so kind of a variation) so we're going with it. We didn't have a middle name picked out until we found out she was a girl. I was throwing names all around before then.

With my son, I knew I wanted to name him Daniel if he was a boy. I struggled with girl names, and once I found out it was gonna be a boy, I just tossed the idea of picking out a girl name and went with what I loved. The opposite happened this time. Funny how things work out!

Ladies...I made myself paranoid last night.

Yesterday afternoon: My son and I drank a LOT of milk yesterday. A LOT. We bought those silly milk straws that have the flavoring inside (strawberry, yum!) and between us used up all 6 straws in less than an hour and a half. If the milk ran out before the strawberry beads all disintegrated, we refilled. Crazy, but it was fun.

My son was on the potty all night, peeing like a horse. Me, not so much. I must have retained the fluids.

Middle of the night: I often sleep on one side of my body for a couple hours, and then flip to the other side. I go back and forth all night. That's normal. (I can't wait to sleep on my back again, fyi.) I flip from my left to my right, and then felt an immediate need to go to the bathroom ASAP. So I got up and went. Usually in the middle of the night, I have the typical bathroom break, not releasing more than a tablespoon or two, cause my bladder wasn't full, just had a person head butting it. Well, last night, ALL that milk decided it was time to go.

I immediately had a flashback to 5 years ago and some change at 32 weeks pregnant, getting up and going to the bathroom to a gush, which at that time was my water breaking. (FYI, If you're unsure...after your water breaks, your hard shelled belly goes soft. You can feel all around your little baby. Clue #1 the water was from your womb. Shortly after that, contractions start. Clue #2).

I panicked. Do I wake up my husband? Is it what I think it is? Am I a complete failure at making babies who can come home with me after they're born? (Middle of the night...you know how paranoid people get).

Well, my belly was still a hard shell. I decided to go back to bed and just wait. If it was real, the contractions would start.

The contractions didn't start. I laid wide awake for 2 hours (baby was awake, too...I guess letting me know it's all good in there) and then finally drifted off to sleep...

...where I had a horrible nightmare!! I dreamed I was going to my midwife appointment on Monday and while I was there gave birth to the baby. I was all by myself, except for the birth center staff, and baby and I were rushed to the hospital. I was trying to call my husband, my mom, my mil...anyone! Other bizarre things were going on, like I didn't know where my son was, or if he was in school or home alone, and I couldn't get in touch with my husband. The only person who answered their phone was my dad, and when I told him that I was in the hospital and the baby was here, he was super calm, like he wasn't surprised at all and said he'd go find my son.

The alarm went off at that point. You guys have no idea how happy I was to hear that alarm. I was really shaken after all the events.

But, babe is still in me, still kicking around, and I'm NOT in labor. Thank goodness, cause it would have really ruined my plans for today.

I need to not drink so much fluids before bed, I think. It only adds fuel to the fire.

@katiew92081: I am sorry you had such an eventful night! Yay for no contractions and she is still kicking away and not causing trouble early like her big brother.

I try and not drink too much after dinner to help me not get up so much to pee in the night. I swear every night, I go right before lights out and 20 mins later, just as I am about to fall asleep I have to go again.

Last night I only got up twice, good night for me.

But what is with my body/bladder deciding I need to go again, every workday morning, 20 mins before my alarm goes off. Every morning.

  4. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@smurfette: I'm pretty much like clockwork. I go at 8pm, 10 pm (if I'm still awake), and then I wake up at 12 having to go and again about 2:30. Then of course, I still need to go another time when the alarm goes off at 6:30 and the rest of the day is random intervals. Night seems to be worse than day, lol.

@katiew92081: I had always wanted a pretty middle name that would go with most names (i.e. Love, Joy, Rose), but DH had wanted to use his parents' names for middle names and I thought that would be a nice tribute to them.
In our case, baby girl's name will be Kaitlyn Irene (DH's mom's name). I really like looking at the meanings behind the names and Kaitlyn means "pure", while Irene means "peace." DH and I both liked that her name = "pure peace."
He told me on the drive this weekend though, that he'd always imagined using "Love" as a middle name for a girl - which is something I'd always thought too! It was so funny we never discussed that before! Maybe if we have a DD#2?

@katiew92081: Oh my goodness! I'm sorry you had such a terrible night and nightmare! I know I have been having CRAZY dreams for about 2 weeks now. I can only imagine how you felt! Hope you get some better rest tonight. And THANKS for sharing how to tell if your water broke! That's a really great explanation of the belly hardness, which I hadn't heard from anyone else before.

@katiew92081: Oh my gosh, what a night!!! I can only imagine how panicked you must've felt, especially since you've already been through one early labor!!! And then that dream!!! Hopefully today and tonight will be MUCH better for you!

Ladies - I am OFFICIALLY registry stalking now! lol! I thought of it this morning and was lying in bed checking them on my phone. How terrible is that?!?!

So far our Amazon registry is getting a lot of love, which I am so grateful and thankful for. Maybe because all the people with the foresight to order gifts prefer Amazon OR because if they go to our BRU registry, my note mentions Amazon and that some of the prices are cheaper? Either way, I think we've only had like 2 things purchased from BRU.

I thinking this morning about what we'll REALLY NEED to get if we don't get them at the showers this weekend - what we'd have to spend $$ on immediately. So far, there are some small things ($20 and under) mostly. I think for big ticket items that we won't get are the Video Monitor and a breast pump. I was figuring I'd have to buy the breast pump through our medical deductible anyways. And I think we will have a good amount of BRU credit or Amazon GC to at least cover half of the Motorola video monitor right away. I think a lot of other things can wait. But we'll see...

  9. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@shopaholic: Yeah, there's a lot of things you don't learn to much about before hand. Even if you read every site and book on the planet, labor still has surprises in store for you. I'm happy to share some of the gory details, lol.

I know that night 5 years ago I stood there, wondering what had just happened. Then, I felt my belly and it was saggy, minus the baby. My ex husband as skeptical of it being my water, but drove me to the hospital anyways, and on the way, I started having mild contractions. I got to the hospital about an hour from when the waters broke and was already dilated 4cm and indeed I was in labor. (Was nice to be able to say "I told you so!" to him)

Also to note: your water replenishes itself. When you get to your hospital or birth center, you'll be leaking and feeling like you're peeing all over yourself. Ask for a towel and keep it between your legs so you don't feel so disgusting.

@katiew92081: I'm glad you're okay! I've been having some weird dreams lately too but I chalk that up to the fact that my husband just started working at another dealership (same company, different location) about an hour away. He'll be there for a few weeks so it's mostly a minor inconvenience but he gets up way earlier and we're trying to go to bed earlier too - only I can't sleep!

As for names, the first one was easy because we hadn't started a trend. My husband went patriotic and historical with our son's name, which isn't surprising since he reenacts and is a huge history buff. Now I feel like we have to match the second child to the first - give it something equally distinguished at least.

@Adira: If it is a girl, I think you'll probably see a similar post as Mr. & Mrs. Bee from me. I just don't know how we'll manage! Boys are infinitely easier to name, I feel.

  16. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@smurfette: It's soft, yeah, but it has a nice ballonish quality to it. If your water breaks, it's like a baby in a deflated balloon.

@shopaholic: I'm with you! I've been registry stalking too, but not a lot has been purchased yet, although a few big items that we need have, like the Pack N Play and the High Chair. I'm thinking no one is going to buy our video monitor - I only added it so I could use the 20% completion coupon. I'm hoping people buy us bottles - so far no one has yet! Plus we really need the extra car seat base and could definitely use the stroller, although that can probably wait. And so far no one has bought any blankets or towels and stuff, but I'm guessing people might buy that kind of stuff OFF the registry?

@aprk: @Smurfette: My stomach is the same way - sometimes it feels rock hard and sometimes it feel soft.

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Adira: Yeah, people get tons of things like blankets and towels just wherever they like and see they are cute. A lot of items I've been buying myself along the way when I see a good deal, so there wasn't a ton on our registries to begin with.

As for bottles - I seriously recommend checking out a TJMaxx or Marshalls if you can. I got ALL my Tommee Tippee and Dr. Browns bottles there and did the price comparisons. They are at least 50% off! Even when my BFF came over and her DH saw them, he couldn't believe I got them for that price. Same thing with the Boppy if you still haven't found yours yet!

We bought the stroller and I do have a BOB on there but IDK if anyone will buy it - it's so pricey. I just figured if we got GC's I could save a % and use it with the completion discount. But I don't intend to use that right away so I can always wait on the BOB. The video monitor is the #1 item I will get if no one gets it for us.

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: @aprk: @Adira: Ok, so my belly is normal then. I got worried there.

I am over being pregnant last night and today. I told DH last night that I didn't know how I was going to deal with the back soreness for another 9 weeks. I almost starting crying last night. I couldn't even walk on the treadmill yesterday cause it hurt. I could do the elliptical but not just walking. And my fingers, nothing else, are still swollen. Pity party kind of day. DH was really sweet last night, gave me a massage and said thanks for carrying our baby. I think he is getting how hard it is on my body now.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Thanks for the tip!!! If we don't get bottles or the Boppy at the shower, I'll definitely go check out Marshalls and TJMaxx! And I'm with you - the video monitor is the #1 item we'll get too. I just can't imagine not having one from day 1!

@Smurfette: I hear you! My back hurts ALL THE TIME. Except when I'm standing up, but then I have to pee and my feet hurt, haha. I can lay in some positions that help, but it's definitely hard to get comfortable. Hubs got me a gift certificate to get a prenatal massage though, so I'm going to do that soon and hope that helps, at least a little. That was really sweet of your husband to thank you for carrying the baby though!!! My husband never says super sweet things like that! Although he only badgers me for sex once a week, so maybe that's his way of showing me he cares, haha.

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: We added the Bob as well, even though I know no one will buy it for us. Plus we don't need it right away. The monitor for sure is something we will have to buy.
@Adira: @shopaholic: We got one set of bottles at the shower last weekend. I was happy no blankets! We got one for Christmas and our good friend is making her a blanket. So between those two, the A&A blankets, I am hoping we don't get any more. I added some receiving blankets to the registry cause I figured it would be easy to return. I was really surprised no one bought burb cloths. We have none.
@Adira: My back is fine when I am sleeping, just when I turn over or get up that it kills me. Sitting at my desk and on the couch are hurting too. I think that I want sex more then my hubby these days I got a prenatal massage for Christmas too but I was saving it for the weekend after the move. I figure I am going to need it more then after unpacking then now. But I might have to do it before and then convince DH that I need another after the move.

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, sitting at my desk or on the couch are a struggle for me too. My desk is the worst and I'm not really sure what to do about it. I WAS fine at home, but lately even sitting on the couch hurts my back. Now I have to lay down or sit leaning on my side to relieve the pressure off my back. Unless you're moving in the next week or so, I think you should go to your prenatal massage and then see if you can get your husband to get you another one! And maybe after the first one, your back will be fine for a while.

Silly question for the mom's who are due in early March: Are you worried at all about the possibility of delivering in February? Or is it all the same so long as the baby's healthy?

I ask because I don't want this next LO born in February. Not that there's anything wrong with February birthdays, I just want a month between birthdays - Henry's first birthday is fast approaching and it'd be nice to be able to breath before I have to (in the future) plan the next one!

  26. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Smurfette: Oh no hun! I'm so sorry you are in pain. That's so sweet of your DH. Every time I mention something to mine, he's like "you ARE carrying/growing a baby in there." I know he sympathizes, but yesterday I told him he would seriously never have an idea what it feels like to go thru pregnancy. I don't think men could handle it! I doubt anyone will get us burp cloths because they're just not that fun to give. I did get some A&A ones myself on BabySteals though.

@Smurfette: Lucky you didn't get too many blankets, though I have to admit I have a hard time resisting buying them for myself! So far I bought 4 A&A (1 pack) blankets myself and one has been bought off our registry! My grandma and MIL gave me each a blanket, but not really practical ones if you know what I mean.

Sex is a weird one for us these days. I think we'd both like it more often, but DH's schedule is just so grueling and I'm too tired by the time he comes home most nights. I wish we could DTD in the morning, but he's never game for it first thing.

@Adira: Dude! Sitting is PAINFUL! I feel like either my front belly/abdomen hurts or else my lower back hurts. It's a constant arch, bend, arch, bend motion.

OK - I only registry stalked one more time since this morning.
Our BRU registry is finally moving a little! I think the Amazon one will slow down or stop completely and the BRU one will pick up this week since our showers are this weekend! I found a really cute coral maxi dress that kind of goes with my shower theme colors, but I don't think it will be warm enough to wear it. I bought it anyways and figured I can return it if not. At least I'll have a couple of options.

I went looking for shower hostess gifts today and I think I did okay, but ladies, 5 hostesses + my BIL for the Saturday shower and 1-2 hostesses for DH's co-workers one. Eek! I know they didn't ALL put in the same amount of effort and money, etc. so I think I will do gifts accordingly, but give it to them separately.

@NaturallyCathy: I'm *hoping* Baby Girl will come in February. DH and I were both born about a month early, so I've mentally prepared for timing like that. But then I did a poll after my OB told me to think like pregnancy is 41 weeks. Ah! I've already mentally prepared for 36 weeks, so adding on 5 more weeks sounds like torture! I could happily have baby come in Feb. because I'm so excited and ready for her to be here already!
But IDK - the poll I took on HB showed most people really DID deliver in the 40-41 week range. I've been trying to make that mental shift.

  28. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@shopaholic: Henry was due February 4th originally. After the second ultrasound, they hedged their bets and said closer to the 12th or so. He was born January 31st after my water broke on the 30th. They induced because my contractions never came on naturally and after induction, they never came at regular intervals. So I guess that puts us at the 40 week range.

This time, they've basically told me the same thing. First ultrasound, closer to the beginning of the month. Second ultrasound, well the baby's smaller than we anticipated so push the due date back a little. I'm hoping since February is such a short month to begin with, we'll be able to fly right through it. Even if we don't, though, hopefully it'll wait until the very end of the month. At least it's not a leap year this year!

  29. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Well, I hope for you, baby stays put a little while longer! The only reason I would not want baby to come in Feb. is because Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year (usually) fall in Feb. and I don't want her to get gypped(?) out of gifts growing up. Like she will always end up with combo Bday/Vday gifts and combo Chinese New Years/Bday gifts from the grandparents.
I'm trying to just think positive and believe "they will come when they will come" and just hope for not past 40 weeks.

@shopaholic: We got a 4 pack of A&A blankets for Christmas. They are so cute but I want to get another set too. I will have to keep an eye open for their burn cloths on baby steals. I got a couple sleep sacks off there.

Could you wear a cardigan over the maxi dress to make it work for this weekend? I didn't do hostess gifts last weekend, since 7 spilt it. We all do the showers for each other and since they didn't do them, I figured it was ok for me not too. I am getting my sister a manicure and pedicure gift card for hers. I know some aunts are helping too so I guess I need to get them airtime something. But my sister is doing the majority of the work and spending the money.

@NaturallyCathy: I REALLY don't want her coming in Feb. espey we are moving into the house on the 9th. I keep telling her I promise to rest and not stress if she promises to stay in there till March. I don't care when she comes then. That would be full term. I was due on VDay but born on the 5th, so a little over a week early. Don't remember what DH was.

Yikes! 7 hostesses! It's nice you all don't get each other stuff for yours then. 4 of mine are my bridesmaids. One of them has been totally MIA since she had her own kid, so I don't really know if she has even been participating in the shower prep stuff.

@shopaholic: Oh wow, you have so many hosts/hostesses to shop for! I guess I'm lucky that it's just my mom throwing my one shower, so I only have to get a gift for her! I'm thinking I'm going to do a Starbucks gift card, a coffee mug, and chocolates, although I'm not positive. Doctor's appointment went ok this morning. I gained 7lbs since the last time. Hangs head in shame. The doc asked me about it. I said I have no idea what is going on, watching what I eat and I am still working out. I told her about my swelling, so she said that could be part of it. She thinks I might be drinking too much water during the day. I was afraid I wasn't drinking enough. So I am going to watch fruit and carbs over the next 2 weeks and see how the weight gain is then. She said that I am not doing horrible, she just doesn't want to see it get to high cause I am the one that is going to have to lose it after. Baby had a good heartbeat, and said that I am measuring a little big. But again didn't seem too concerned, said could be from the swelling.

I am feeling rather depressed over here. This sucks. I hate seeing the scale go up but I don't know what to do.
