@NaturallyCathy: thank you for the description! i must convince DH to try this soon. i feel like the further along i progress in the this pregnancy, the less frequent we get intimate..which is really sad because i know it will be even less once the baby is here.

@cokiezombie: Me on top is the only position that works every time for me and is a must if it is a quickie. The only thing we have had to change is I can't lean over on top of him as much as I use too. More have to straddle him and sit up straight. This way he can still grab "the girls" as he likes to call them, and loves now that they are so much bigger

@adira: I think men kinda see pregnancy and babies as a woman's thing. They don't get as connected as we do, cause they're not physically connected the whole time, like we are. My ex husband didn't really try any bonding with my son until he was well over 2 years (part of that was cause I left him when my son was just over a year...that's another story.) He was totally NOT helpful with the baby, but since I was the SAHM, he felt like he was the bacon bringer, so I think he felt like that was his job. Unfortunately, he still feels that way, but I don't care anymore, lol.
Now, current hubby is really nervous about this baby. It's only cause of the small and frailness of the baby. BUT, knowing my husband, once he sees this girl, he'll be dropping that fear. he's a nurturer by nature, so he'll be great. I also trust him more with this baby than I did my ex with my son. (My ex doesn't like extra "work"). And he's gonna have to be helpful, cause there's a 5 year old here that needs to get to school in the morning. So, he can either take the boy to school (our apt complex is across the street, so it's less than 20 minutes round trip) or he's staying with the girl while I take the boy. I honestly hope it's me going, just so that I'll have that 20 minutes with my son in the car and a teeny break from her. She'll have to just tag along when I pick my son up, so that 20 minutes in the morning will be all I have until my husband comes home at 6:30+ at night. (he leaves about 8:30-9 in the morning).
Anyways, my point is...your husband will help when he *has* to when your baby is a baby. After the baby is responding to things, like talking to it, laughing at your silly faces and stuff, your husband will be even MORE helpful, cause then the baby has something to do with HIM.
Not sure if that all makes sense...kinda long winded, lol

@katiew92081: Wise points!
Ladies - The BRU registry has been down or something all day! Makes it impossible to registry stalk today! LOL! I guess that's a good thing right?
watermelon / 14206 posts
@shopaholic: I was having problems the other day with it, but yesterday and earlier today I was able to get on it.
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: argh! Still not able to get on all day! I even tried to log on as if I were looking for my own registry (like a gift-giver would be) and NOTHING!
P.S. Anyone get gifts sent/shipped to them even though the giver has RSVP'd for your shower? I'm surprised I've gotten a couple of gifts shipped to us. I guess they are kind of big and bulky (so I am thankful for that), but usually people like you to open their gifts at the shower right? I'm sending out TY cards as we receive the gifts, but I'll verbally thank them again in person at the shower.

DH just called me to schedule the appointment to get our security system installed! That's his way of "prepping" for baby. He's been concerned about getting a home security system, video monitors (for outside), and wants a gun for safety. I'm still iffy on the gun, but we have a school & park basically right behind our backyard wall. DH thinks if anything happened, it'd be easy for someone to jump over our walls and try to break in.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: I was able to log in today, cause I added something. Awesome about the security system. I am excited our new house has one already. So we will have to get it set up. I want one for the nights when it is just me and baby home and DH is traveling.

@shopaholic: I was wondering if this was just me! BRU has been down since yesterday afternoon... SO annoying!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: That's really GREAT that your new house already has it installed! Although, our city and neighborhood are REALLY safe! We have 2 retired cops and a current "investigator" that live on our street, but I will feel better too when DH is gone or still at work late nights.
@Arden: Right? I hope it doesn't affect anyone who might be shopping! heheh - I really just want to stalk...

@NaturallyCathy: @katiew92081: I suspect my husband will probably be better with our kids when they are old enough to walk and talk. My best friend has a daughter and when she was a baby, my husband had no interest in her, but once she started walking/talking, he started to find her a lot more fun! So I suspect the same might be true with our own children.
@shopaholic: This BRU registry being down is kind of freaking me out! My shower is on Sunday - what if people are trying to buy stuff and can't access my registry??? Hopefully they will be able to in the store if they can't on-line! Ugh! And we haven't received any gifts through the mail yet.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: @Adira: Have a wonderful shower this weekend! Post some pictures. Hope you both get lots of the registry and fun stuff too!
@Adira: I wouldn't worry about it. I am sure they can access it in the store.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: You're probably right! Plus it's probably too late to order anything on-line now anyway since they would need to do 1-day shipping in order to have it by Sunday - seems unlikely people would wait to the last minute and have to pay the extra shipping costs!
And I will definitely be sure to have SOMEONE take pictures and post them after! I'm so excited!!!

@adira and @shopaholic: I was able to log on today, but it looks like the page is redesigned. That's probably what the hold up was all about.

I'm having such a hard time figuring out what carseat to get! I thought I didn't want a bucket seat, but it looks as if most convertible seats aren't really suited for a newborn. What seats have you ladies picked out?
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: I was finally able to get on today! Got 3 more things purchased off the registry.
@Smurfette: Thanks! I am going to try and appoint my lil bro to take pics!
@katiew92081: I decided to go with an infant carseat since it will be more practical for when we go out with the stroller and to restaurants, etc. We got the Maxi-Cosi Mico to go with the UBV stroller. When we upgrade to the convertible size that stays in the car, I'm thinking of the Maxi-Cosi Pria. I have to admit I like their designs.

OB Visit Update: I went to my OB today and got my [most likely] LAST U/S. I will miss seeing the baby until she comes out!
Everything looks good they told me - Baby is measuring 4 -something lbs and likely to be born upper 6lbs/lower 7lbs they are guessing. She is in the 38% weight or size percentile the tech said. AGAIN, she was covering her face with her arms the whole time. She is in head down position already too. Next appt. is in 2 weeks, and after that I will start the weekly OB visits!

@katiew92081: We are borrowing a Graco Snugfit from a friend. Haven't looked into convertible ones, figure we have a while before we need to think/worry about those.

@shopaholic: Lucky! I still can't get on! Guess I'll just have to wait until the shower to find out what I got.
Congrats on the baby being head-down!!! It's getting close!

I guess we've decided on a Graco myride 65. We're gonna order it this weekend!
@shopaholic: I looked at the Maxi Cosa convertible, but it was a little out of our price range. We were originally gonna go with the Recaro proride, but realized that most people said it isn't very practical for a newborn. The Myride was actually most people's top choice for going straight to the conv. with a newborn.
Have fun at your showers today!

Cant wait to see pictures from you ladies showers this weekend!
What did you guys get your shower hostess' as gifts? Did you ge tthem anything? Big/Small? I need some ideas!
Has anyone picked a peditrician yet? How do you choose one? I dont acutally feel comfortable picking someone random off a list!
@shopaholic: I havent had an ultrasound since 20 weeks!! I cant wait for my next one!

@cheert16: My mom is hosting my shower, so for a gift I got her a box of chocolates, a coffee mug that says "Happiness is having a loving Grandma" or something like that, which I filled with more chocolates, and a gift card to Starbucks. It's probably not really enough ($50 total), but I couldn't think of anything else.
I have picked a pediatrician, but I'm not sure my methods will help you. I basically picked by word of mouth. When I was at one of my OB appointments, the doctor asked if I had picked one yet and then told me about the one she uses, so I just went with her suggestion!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@cheert16: I didn't get hostess gifts for my first shower. It was thrown by 7 girlfriends and we all take turns hosting each others showers. I am one of the last to have their first baby, and since they didn't do gifts, I didn't either. For the one next weekend, I am getting my sister a gift card for a manicure and pedicure. I know that it is something she is going to appreciate.
My doctor gives a list, I forgot to get it last week, so I need to call them next week. I guess then we will look at the list, ask friends who they use and call and interview some.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@cheert16: This won't be much helpful, but I'm taking baby to the same place my older son goes.
I started going to that office when we moved to this area, because my mom took my brother there while he was growing up here. Ask around your friends and family, if you have some nearby with kids. Also, your insurance may only be accepted at certain places, so that's something to remember, too.

I finally found out about my baby shower! Three ladies are planning it for February 17 (they ran the date by me today). There should be around 20-40 people, so it will be fairly big. I'm getting excited!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@cheert16: I picked one. I asked my midwife if she had any recommendations, and then I researched them online. I picked one based on the fact that he's a breastfeeding friendly practice with an IBCLC on staff, that he is flexible on vaccine schedules, and that he had high ratings from other parents for being friendly, up to date, and naturally minded.

So I've finally managed to get all of Henry's old 0 to 3 month clothes unpacked, washed, folded, and packed them away again in a clear bin. I don't know why but this feels like a big accomplishment. I hope this next baby is able to wear them out a little bit more. Most of the clothes are plain white onesies or onesies that don't have much decoration, so it will work regardless of the gender.
Anyone else get their little one's clothes ready yet? Or am I just really behind?
Also, I don't have my birth plan updated/printed off and I don't have a hospital bag packed, although I do have a list and did buy a few necessary items. Anyone else struggling to get things done before time?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Arden: Yay, congratulations!!! So glad to hear you're having a shower! And 20-40 is a really good number! Should be a good crowd! Hopefully you get a lot of items that you need!
@NaturallyCathy: haha, you're ahead of me! I don't have that much clothes yet, but I definitely haven't gotten any of it ready!
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: IDK about the prices, I thought the Recaro is like $300? We haven't fully committed yet, and since we didn't get it as a shower gift, we'll just see what we decide on when the time comes to buy one!
@cheert16: I'm lucky my OB's office has their own awesome U/S machines and a full time u/s tech staff!
As for the shower gifts, our shower today was really big and I'm sure cost my girls a pretty penny! I spent at least $50 on each of them and there were 6 hosts/hostesses. I gave them each a potted orchid plant, a beauty product for each girl (i.e. 3 pack Butter nail polish, 3 pack Lip glosses, etc. depending on the girl), Body Shop Body Butter Big Tub, Room Diffuser or Candle, etc. And for my sister and BIL, I included more extras and a $50 GC for a restaurant. It's a lot but I know they all did a lot too!
For DH's co-worker shower tomorrow, we got the one hostess a $75 Massage GC and some Body Shop gift set.
I haven't picked our pediatrician for sure, but narrowed it down to 2 and just told the OB the one I think. But I haven't "met" them yet, just based off of recommendations from friends.
@Smurfette: I guess it's nice that you're the last of the 7 and you don't have to get gifts!
@Arden: YAY for your baby shower date being set! Sounds like a great number of people! I'm sure it will be wonderful!
@NaturallyCathy: I've washed any hand-me-downs and consignment pieces I've been given immediately. I also washed about 3 pieces that I've packed for our hospital bag. I will probably start washing things like sheets and blankets toward the middle of Feb. I haven't done the birth plan yet, but started researching how to write one yesterday.
OK...will start another post about today's shower...

Shower #1:
So today's shower was a SMASHING success! It was so much fun, a huge turnout (~70-something people out of 90 RSVPs), and just incredible! It started at Noon, and we got home after 9 pm! Most people with kids started leaving at 2:30 before gifts, because kids were melting down and it was literally like a switch had flipped because they all needed their naps. Most other people left around 5pm. Some friends stayed and hung out even after we left!
It was so beautiful and amazing, I think it will deserve it's own post! I'll probably write it up on Monday for HB since I can barely keep my eyes open right now and we have DH's co-workers shower tomorrow.
Here's a sneak peek from an IG pic a friend posted of the "dessert table" and our gifts from today after we got home. And this is just the condensed version!
OK, I'm officially POOPED and losing my voice! Need to get to bed!

@shopaholic: On Amazon, the Recaro ProRide is less than $250. $189 for the color I liked.
@naturallycathy: I've had my 0-3 month clothes settled for a while in the plastic "dresser" we're using for baby girl. (She's sharing our room with us, so we're having to improvise!) Although, I haven't washed any of it, yet. I guess I'm waiting til after my shower to do that. I should at least do like @shopaholic and wash the things I plan on packing for the hospital. I need to pack my hospital bag, too.
I found a great diaper bag at Goodwill yesterday. I was really dreading paying so much money for a diaper bag, so I'm glad I found something there. It's more like a big purse, which is what I prefer. I don't like carrying around cartoon characters or anything. I also prefer to carry only one bag, so it will double as my purse.
@shopaholic: Wow! I love the decorations! And, look at your stash! Do you feel like you got everything you were really needing, now? It must have taken ages to open all that!!

@katiew92081: We shared our bedroom with Henry for the first six months of his life and all of his clothes either lived on little hangers in the closet or in bins underneath his changing table. So I understand the 'not a lot of space' and 'improvising'. We're going to have to do practically the same thing, set up and everything, for when this next baby is due - which will be interesting. It means the changing table will have to come out of Henry's nursery and be put back under the window in our bedroom. Not hard, I know, but it -does- mean that I lose all the shelves that I've come to depend upon for storing his clothes and things. Guess we'll just have to get my old child-sized dresser from my parents (which, funnily enough, used to be my mother's dresser when she was a child). It'll definitely take some rethinking.
And I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't have their hospital bag packed. Do you at least have a list of what you'll pack/need/etc? Need any help, let me know.
@Adira: You'll have plenty of time after your shower to get everything washed, sweetie. I just feel like I have a timer in the back of my head that's going 'tick-tock' and a list that doesn't seem to be getting any shorter. I'll probably be running around frantic the day I go into labor -still- trying to get everything ready!
@shopaholic: Kudos on having your hospital bag packed and the stuff you'll be using immediately washed. That was one of the reasons why I went ahead and washed everything and put it away - so I could remember what all I had and see what I wanted to pack in my hospital bag for this new LO. It also reminded me I need to buy some more mittens and socks because a lot of my newborn stuff got lost one way or another.
Just make sure the clothes you packed in your hospital bag are flexible weather wise. Things you can take off if for some reason it's unseasonably hot/cold. Me, I'm packing more than I know I'll need because of the unknown weather and because last time, we (the baby and I) ended up having to stay at my parent's house for a few weeks while my husband renovated our master bedroom. Since we're still trying to get this house settled before the baby comes, I'm not sure where exactly I'll be going after being released from the hospital. Hopefully home, wherever home is!
***
And here's a tip for all of you who will be washing little onesies, caps, mittens (trust me, you'll want mittens because you'll be too afraid to cut fingernails for a while), socks, etc:
If it's small and you even think that you might somehow lose or misplace one, put them in a pillowcase you can tie shut or a mesh lingerie bag or something before washing. If you don't have a lingerie bag, go invest in one. It saves time (and sanity) later and is worth the small expense, I promise.

@shopaholic: Oh and if you need help with your birth plan or just want to see another flavor, I'll happily share mine with you.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@naturallycathy: Yeah, we have a 2 bedroom apartment. We would have gone for the 3 bedroom, cause we knew I was pregnant when we signed, but the third bedroom would have been unused for 6 months of our one year lease. So, we decided to bring her into our room when she's born, share the room for a bit, until we buy a house...which will hopefully be this summer/fall. I kinda like having the small space for her, cause then it makes me not go overboard on stuff that I know she won't really need. I just registered for things like washcloths and receiving blankets...with the exception of the p&p and a small swing, which my parents and inlaws bought. We're getting the carseat ourselves, and everything else is really minimal. I use my son's closet for her clothes that are too big (which at first he hated, but his choice was share the closet of the room...he picked the closet, lol).
Then, once we're in a house with her own room, I can paint it and make it more for a bigger girl than a newborn, which will be neat.
