@shopaholic: yeah, my baby is about 4 pounds...and I'm +3 on weight gain. It's the first appointment I've gained, lol. I lost a LOT in the first half, though, and I've actually struggled to put it on. Midwife and hubby says more fat and protein, but I can't seem to make it stick! I want to add that I have NEVER had this issue before!! I would love for this issue to be a problem after I have her, lol.
@naturallycathy: I agree with @smurfette! If it's a girl, then she'll be a novelty all her own, and everyone's gonna wanna see the little princess and bring her stuff. Even if you don't want them to bring anything, they're still gonna wanna fuss over her!
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: I hear you. I still have trouble with eating proteins. But my weight gain is still like quadruple yours! I hope my appetite is as lackluster after baby too so I can weigh less than before! I've NEVER had a problem with eating yummy foods and gaining weight before! lol!

@katiew92081: Aaaaand now I'm back to dreading if it's a girl... Know what it took? The word "princess". I love Disney, don't get me wrong, and I've seen just about every single Disney movie. I've even seen all the Tinkerbell movies. But if I have a girl, I don't know how I'll cope with it. Pink is my -least- favorite color and I'm the least girly-girl you can imagine. Even though I've already warned everyone that if it is a girl, lay off the pink, I know that regardless someone's going to go all out for the little 'princess'.

@NaturallyCathy: I love the color pink. But I hate that everyone keeps buying her clothes with princess written on it. My SIL keeps calling her lil princess or her princess (which is whole another discussion). So I am over the princess stuff too and she isn't here yet.
bananas / 9973 posts
@NaturallyCathy: @Smurfette: LOL! I love pink and everything girly! But we lucked out and no one has gotten her anything cheesy and grossly pink, no Disney stuff, no "princess" tees, etc.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: You are lucky! I am glad no Disney princess stuff yet. I am just not a fan in general of outfits with words all over them. And half we have gotten have it. And I have no clue where they are from
watermelon / 14206 posts
@naturallycathy: you sound like my SIL, lol. (which isn't a bad thing). In the begining you can lay off the pink, but soon she'll be 3, like my niece, and watching Cinderella on repeat and asking for princess clothes for Christmas. And, you know what? Despite how you feel about it, you'll love her, so you'll give into her whims, lol.
I haven't registered or bought any Disney princess items...cause I know its inevitable, and she'll have some eventually, lol. Or, maybe not. Maybe I'll end up with a not so girly girl...which is fine, too.
I would have been found in a sand box or picking up wild animals when I was little. My parents say I was their dirtiest child...and I have 2 brothers! But, I still LOVED Barbies and My Little Ponies...they just got dirty, too.
I have a 5 year old son, but he hates bugs and frogs. He's good at legos and cleaning his room and he's very particular about everything. You wouldn't see him rolling in the dirt...he just doesn't like to be dirty. He's regimented about brushing his teeth and looking good in his clothes. He likes his hair combed and not sticking up at all.
It's fun just to watch their little personalities develop over the years, and all the stuff about what they're into doesn't matter, cause you just love them, so you encourage them in whatever they dream up.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@smurfette, @naturallycathy and @shopaholic: You know what I hate? Not only words on onesies, but words and pictures on the butt! It irritates me to no end! Why does the world seem to think people should be looking at my baby's butt? Sure, maybe it's cute, but it doesn't need to be highlighted or pointed out!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Smurfette: That's my problem too, if it is a girl I know -my- SIL is going to go AWOL. She'll practically take over the child. She was thrilled with a boy but if it's a girl, she'll be impossible to get along with.
And I am sick to death of everything proclaiming that girls are princesses. All the princess themed party supplies, the crowns adorning everything from socks to hats to shoes to underwear even. I can't imagine having known it was a girl and having a shower to that effect, although I know you guys loved it. I like not knowing until after, it makes a lot of things easier to control in some ways.
watermelon / 14206 posts
I like Disney stuff, but I didn't register for Disney princess stuff. Just Finding Nemo and the Lion King. I picked the Lion King, cause the exclusive pnp at Babies R Us is machine washable...and then I just picked the small swing to go with it, cause it was nice and functional, too. My son picked the Nemo stuff. I think he had more fun registering than I did, lol.

@katiew92081: I hear you. I have a lot of stuff my MIL bought with my SIL that she thought was adorable and it would be things like a giant shamrock on the butt for his first St. Patrick's day. Or a guitar, I have one with a huge guitar across the butt. What's with that?
watermelon / 14206 posts
@naturallycathy: I was at Kohl's with my hubby the other day, and we went through the baby section and found a whole rack dedicated to things on the butt. There was an actual line of clothing, from, I think Carter's, that was all about the bum. I don't like it when teenagers and grown women do it, why would I let my baby daughter wear it? Words on the butt are tacky, lol
My MIL buys a lot of "daddy's girl" or "I love my Daddy" stuff. Ugh. Even hubby is tired of it!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I will say that my 1st shower sort of was a princess theme. But more of Smurfette's little princess will be here soon, on the invitation. Not like there was princess stuff everywhere. I think it was more everyone knows I really wanted a girl and love all the girly stuff.
My SIL is driving me crazy cause she is acting like she is one having the baby not me. She has two boys and is done with kids so she won't get the chance to have one but she isn't that girlie at all. I don't get it. I told DH next time she calls the baby her princess, he baby, etc I am going to go off on her. Which wouldn't be good for anyone, maybe it is a good thing she can't make it to my shower after all this weekend.
I like some stuff on the butt, esp for newborns. The little ruffles get me every time.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@katiew92081: Sorry, missed your first post. I had one princess thing when I was growing up. It was that Pretty Pretty Princess game, or whatever it was called. I had more fun playing with the plastic jewelry than the actual game. And I watched all the Disney movies but I was more interested in become Pocahontas (which I was one year for Christmas), Mulan, or Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame than any of the princess princesses.
I also played with Barbies growing up, with lots of clothes and accessories but I used them more as a vehicle for my story-telling than actually trying to be fashionable.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@naturallycathy: Yeah, I don't think really any girl is TOTALLY princess...unless she's ridiculously encouraged to be that way.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Has everyone noticed that they can't eat as much anymore? I find that my normal amount makes me really full. Like uncomfortable full. I guess I need to start eating smaller meals and just more often.
Baby girl must be having a dance party by herself today, cause she is moving all over today!
bananas / 9973 posts
@katiew92081: Ah you'd hate me IRL! haha! I'm like @Smurfette: and I think some of the carter's stuff on the butt is cute. I bought the sleeper with a strawberry on the butt. And anything with ruffles on the butt are so cute! But it might stem from me having to wear a ton of boys' hand-me-downs when I was little. All my older cousins were boys and I was dressed like a boy all the time. Anytime I could get my hand on lace and rufles, forgetaboutit! I was in heaven!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: I've been having that issue for months! It's just so uncomfortable to sit and the pressure is right under the rib cage where the stomach is. So after a few bites, I feel uncomfortably full. I keep joking I need to eat lying down.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@smurfette: Nope. I feel like I'm always eating and never full. Hubby and I went to a steakhouse for dinner around New Year's and we were both amazed at how easily I ate everything I was served. I didn't take a thing home with me, lol. I think the server was impressed, too! I don't normally do that on purpose, but the fact that I could do it that night was crazy. I always feel hungry!
Yay for dance parties!

@shopaholic and @smurfette: Ruffles on the butt are ok. Words bug me most, and a monkey face or something is stretching it, lol.

@Smurfette: oh man I am the same way! We went out to dinner the other day and split and app and I took 2 bites of my meal and packed it to go!
@shopaholic: I tend to get horozontal after I eat which is horrible i should be up walking and moving!! But i am just so darn tired.

Well, looks like the crib is gonna be here on Wednesday. My dad needs to replace a screw or something. It's a drop down crib, but my son shook it so much when he got older that the drop down part doesn't work so well. So, my dad has bolted it to leave it as a stationary side. He's making it super safe, hence the extra time he needs to make sure it's right.

Registry stalking paid off today! Our first items were purchased our registry - the changing pad and the boppy. Yay!!! They were bought of the Amazon registry.
Now I'm desperately trying to get into my BRU registry to remove the boppy from there, but the stupid thing won't let me log in! Target is also giving me a hard time. Grrrr...
watermelon / 14206 posts
@arden: How exciting! A lot of ladies on here have said they've had trouble with the BRU site
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Sorry I haven't really been around today ladies. Our furnace decided to croak on Friday and we had a repair guy here on Saturday checking it out and we needed a new part for it, so he was here today fixing it. BUT, that part wasn't the only issue and so he was here almost all day working on it and stuff. Apparently one of the most important components was broken (or something) and it's going to cost a fortune to replace. He ordered the part, but it won't be in town until tomorrow or Wednesday, so we continue to go without heat. Luckily, we have a gas fireplace, so we've been able to keep semi-warm, but it's going to get even colder the next few days. Also, apparently our furnace hasn't been working correctly for a while and been leaking carbon monoxide. The repair guy thinks it's just been going outside as opposed to leaking into the house, and I haven't experienced any carbon monoxide poisoning, but the scare freaked me out, so I've been on the phone talking to a nurse, calling the Pregnancy Exposure Info Line, and Poison Control!
Anyway...
@NaturallyCathy: haha, I'm with you! I'm not a fan of the Princess theme for girls! I like pink and girly stuff, but all the Princess stuff is a bit much I think. I'm glad baby #1 is a boy!
@katiew92081: hahaha, I think it's funny you hate the words and stuff on the butt! I think I'd prefer that kind of stuff on a baby's butt than on an adult's! Women love to put saying on their butts these days!
Sorry your crib isn't going to get there until Wednesday, but that's awesome that your dad is making sure it's super safe for your baby!! That's definitely a good idea to make it a stationary instead of a drop down. I guess my brother and I also had drop down cribs, but the sides were broken. My parents just used bungee cords to keep them up!!!
@Smurfette: Ugh, sorry about your SIL and her attitude! She sounds like my MIL who keeps referring to our unborn as HER grandson. She was going on and on about her grandson at my shower that even my cousin noticed and was all WTF.
@Arden: I'm jealous your changing pad got bought! That's one of the things we didn't get! And I'm having the same probably with BRU - I was able to log on on Friday night, but haven't been able to log in since. So annoying!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: Yikes! but, good thing you caught it before your little guy comes! I hope it all works out for you!
I think it's the women with stuff on their butts that make me oppose it with babies. I guess I make some sort of connection to it, and I don't like it, lol.
Isn't your baby going to be your MIL's grandson? Am I reading that wrong?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: haha, no, you're right, he IS going to be her grandson, but it's the WAY she says it - all possessive-like. The way she says it and her tone implies that the baby is her grandson FIRST and my son SECOND. Does that make sense?
watermelon / 14206 posts
@ah, yes...I can see how tone makes it weird. My MIL has been irritating me along the same lines...we took my son out shopping and to a mall around here to play on their big indoor playground. Every time he asked for something, I'd say no, and then she'd go ahead and give him what he asked for, saying, "he's MY grandson, I'm supposed to spoil him." I got really annoyed with me every time she underminded me.
The crazy part is that my son isn't technically her grandson (although, I'm more than happy that they consider him part of the family). ut, I feel like it's going to be 10000000 times worse when this REAL grand daughter is born. My husband said we'll just avoid her, then, lol.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Oh my gosh, I can't believe your MIL just undermines you like that!!! It's one thing to spoil him when she's watching him and you're not around, but when you're there, she should follow your lead!!! That would totally drive me crazy!!!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: Yeah...and she's actually very nice...she's just trying really really (too) hard to get him to like her. Like you said, if it was just her and him, then yeah, she's in charge, let him do whatever, as long as he's safe. But if I'm there, then she needs to go with what I say.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Arden: Yay for registry stalking! I'm a little not sure what I'll do now after I'm done writing thank you cards! I was having so much fun registry stalking before!
@Adira: YIKES about your furnace! I have to admit I'm horrible at knowing about that kind of stuff! Gad you got someone to come out and check it!
@katiew92081: Awww...I'm not there yet, but my parents are so non-parental loving so I'll be in awe and happy if they suddenly became super loving and wanted to spoil our LO. They are so indifferent about anyone's kids, but everyone tells me they will change.
OK ladies, I posted a separate thread for my baby shower. Seriously I was so grateful and floored by the shower my girls threw us. Hope you guys can check it out!
bananas / 9973 posts
P.S. I went to do a BUNCH of returns on duplicate gifts and stuff I wouldn't want or need and it was actually pretty easy for the most part! Best of all, I have over $300 in store credit now for BRU that can go towards the video monitor or the BOB stroller. I'll have to see about my Amazon GCs and decide which to use where. But besides those two things, I think we will be pretty set for baby. We got 2 crib sheets - yay! So only thing left for the nursery are those darn expensive PBK curtains I can't stop thinking about!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I am so glad that you didn't get any of the carbon monoxide in the house. Scary. Even though it sucks big time to have to repair the furnace now, the important thing is your husband, you and baby are healthy! Stay warm. DH is in NYC this week and was telling me how cold it is going to be up there. Bundle up.
@Arden: I saw that someone bought our changing pad too. We got the Boppy at the 1st shower, now just need a cover for it. I felt bad complaining to my Mom today that nothing has been bought off the registry. I feel like such a snot, but I am so afraid I am going to get a bunch of stuff we don't need or want.
@shopaholic: I am jealous that you got everything you needed. And not a lot of clothes, esp ones that don't say I love Daddy, etc on them. Great that you have enough gift cards for the monitor and Bob. We need the monitor still and DH really wants the Bob. At least we can wait on the Bob, since we have a snap and go stroller for the infant car seat.
And I say go buy the curtains That way I can live through you since I can't get them.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Shoot, I forgot I still needed to get curtains! Thanks for the reminder, haha! And that's awesome about the credit you got! Congrats! Shopping spree!!!
@Smurfette: Yes, as far as I know, everyone is healthy and if we were exposed to carbon monoxide, it was probably a very small amount. Baby's kicking up a storm at the moment to let me know he's okay too! And yes, it's going to be very cold - close to 0 Tuesday night. I'm hoping the furnace is fixed before then, but if not, I might pick up some extra space heaters to help get through the night!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Oh, and ladies, if you don't already have one (or more), make sure you get some carbon monoxide detectors before the baby comes just to be on the safe side!
bananas / 9973 posts
I actually bought the changing pad with the BRU Groupon deal and Boppy myself from TJ Maxx.
@Smurfette: They have/had Boppy covers on crazy sale at Target! I got mine for $6.99 and got the same one at the shower (had to return one and it got marked down to under $5!) I also think the key to us getting a lot of stuff from the registry is because I already bought like half the stuff we'd need ourselves. Our registry had about 60-something things total on it. A lot of the non-registry stuff we received were BATH products, which hey, I'm totally okay with that!
@Adira: All I can say is that FLEECE has been my best friend when it's been too cold and I don't want to waste $ on the heater or it wasn't warm enough! I have those long fleece onesies for adults and it fits well with the bump! And fleece throw blankets! Hope you stay nice and warm! And thanks for the reminder! Our alarm was on the blitz and we removed the battery a few weeks ago. But getting our security system installed this week and I think it monitors smoke and Carbon Monoxide too.
Okay ladies - headed to our FIRST baby class tonight! This one is for Breast Feeding. lol. DH didn't understand why he needs to be there but I'm making him go!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Ooooh, have fun at your class!!! I kind of wish I was taking a breastfeeding class, but I decided not too. Our Caring for your Newborn class though was taught by a Lactation Specialist, so she had lots of info on breastfeeding which was nice. If you learn anything you think should be shared, definitely spread your knowledge to the rest of us!
