March 2013 Mommas!

@katiew92081: @shopaholic: Thank you ladies!!! I had soooooo much fun at the shower today! I think there were about 35 people or so, so it was a pretty good turn out and I got a TON of items - I was really surprised at how much stuff each person got me! I don't have a ton of pictures though, although hopefully some of my friends took some. I'll post a picture of the present table though once I get it loaded.

There's definitely still a few items that we'll need to buy on our own, but we got a ton of stuff like a stroller, activity gym, high chair, diaper bag, diaper pail, pack n' play, a boppy, bath stuff, bottles, pacifiers, plus a ton of onesies and blankets!

So I think what we still need to make sure we get on our own are a changing pad, crib sheets, and our video monitor. But I'm really happy with all the stuff we got!

@Adira: So glad that you had a great shower and got so much stuff! Did you get a lot of clothes?

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, we got soooooo much clothes! I feel like every gift had one or two outfits in it at least! I'll have to go through them and figure out sizes stuff - I think we might've gotten a lot of 3 month items and not a ton of other sizes, but I'm not positive about that.

  4. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yeah mostly everything we have gotten is newborn and 0-3 months. So at least I can go shopping for 3-6 and older when that time comes.

I just checked my registries and there is SO much not bought. I really hope people go shopping this week. Otherwise I have no clue what people are buying for our shower next weekend. I am getting scared about how much we are going to have to buy ourselves.

  5. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Hopefully you get some much-needed items at your next baby shower!! I was really happy with our haul, but we definitely will have to buy a TON of stuff, which is a bummer. Like we got ZERO crib sheets, no mattress protectors, didn't get the changing pad, and I'm sure there are a ton of things I can't even think of. Meanwhile, we got a zillion pacifiers, and like four or five sets of body wash/lotion!

@Adira: I hope so too. My family is known for not buying off registries. Someone did buy the changing pad which is good. We got so many pacifiers at the 1st shower, that I updated the registries to show them all bought. I hope we don't get any more. My Mom did tell me that she is planning on going this week and knows what she wants to get us, hoping it will be the pack n play. Someone bought the Rock n Play weeks ago, and we haven't gotten it yet. So we should get that this weekend. DH sister did text me tonight and isn't going to come up now for the shower. While her excuse is valid, DH and I think she really isn't coming cause we aren't going to make it to our nephew's 6th bday party. We usually always go down for it, but I will be 36 weeks and it is the weekend after we move. We just can't this year. I am disappointed, she made an excuse why she couldn't come for the wedding shower too. Makes me mad, we drive 4 hours to see them all the time and she can't do it once for us? I am hoping that means Step-MIL will still come.

@Smurfette: I suspect most families tend to stray from the registry! They want to buy fun stuff instead of the stuff you actually need/want! Oh well!

Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law! That's annoying that you always make the trek to visit and attend events for her, but she's not coming to your shower and she didn't come to your wedding shower either! That would definitely frustrate me! I know people like that - so annoying!!!

I didn't get a ton of pictures from the shower because I was too busy to take my own pictures! Not sure if someone else got a lot of pictures or not. But here's a picture of the presents, plus me opening one of the gifts.

@Adira: Looks like you got a ton of stuff. I totally want that wire basket with the burlap liner! What is the name you choose again? The sign doesn't look familiar.

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: We're naming our son Alexander, but the sign says "Xander" because that's the nickname we'll be using.

And yes! I have no idea where my friend found that basket, but I love it! My mom even asked if she could have it, haha.

@Smurfette: I think it says "Xander". Am I right, @adira?

Edit: Never mind, you beat me to it.

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: @Arden: I could make out what the sign said, it just didn't look familiar for some reason. I just couldn't remember that your name was Alexander. It is a cute sign!!

I still can't decide what I want to do on the walls of the nursery. Thought about her name on one wall but I can't make up my mind!

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I hear you about the walls! I have the teal stripe, so I think I'll be able to get away with not doing as much, but I do think I need SOMETHING up there. I do have a couple pictures (the ones my friend painted), so those will definitely go up on a wall, and then maybe the name sign on another wall, but otherwise I don't know what.

Do you have any pictures you could hang up? Are you doing maternity photos at all - you could hang up some pictures of you and your husband maybe. Or you could just have some empty picture frames for now and fill them with pictures of the baby once she arrives! And I always think having the name on the wall is cute if you can find a style of letters or something that you like!

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I bought one print cause I want to do a gallery wall, probably over the changing table. But that is all for far. I have seen more I like on Etsy, that I can order. So we need something for over the crib. I think that might be all. I really need to wait and see how the furniture looks when placed how I have it envisioned in my head. We found a trio of painted canvas we liked on etsy that we could do. Just not sure I want to spend the money. I wanted to make something but I can't find anything I want to do and I just don't have the time at this point. I think that I am just going to have to accept her room most likely won't be finished by the time she gets here.

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I suspect none of us will completely finish our nurseries before the babies arrive! And I'm with you - I'm not entirely sure how everything will look once I get the furniture in there. I'm not even sure the dresser I'm using will look okay, haha. I need to upgrade the knobs on it as they are suuuuuper ugly at the moment, haha.

I hope you're able to figure out what you want and how much you're willing to spend! I totally know what you mean about not being sure about spending the money. There's definitely a lot of cute things out there, especially on Etsy, but the cost can definitely add up!

  16. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: What do you think? I guess $100 isn't bad for three pictures. I think it is just more of knowing that we have SO much to buy for her still and then the house in general. We are going to spending so much money in the next couple months, makes me depressed. I guess it is a good thing I have been saving like crazy for the last year.

@Smurfette: Wow, I DO think they're wicked cute. I love pictures like that that sprawl multiple prints! Will it go with the other decor you have in the room?

I definitely understand your hesitation though - $100 is a lot, especially with all the expenses we already have with stuff left to get and unexpected costs once the babies are here! What does your husband think of the prints and the price? If you love them and feel like you have the money, I say go for it! But I'm loose with my money, so I'm not a good person to give advice, haha.

  18. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: He really liked it. Not sure he saw the price or not. I think that it would go with what else we have in the room. I don't have anything to babyish. I think I am going to hold out for now, and hope it doesn't sell. I think it would be smarter to hold off buying anything we see the furniture in the room. Three weeks till moving day!

  19. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Good idea to hold off until you have the room set up so you can decide where to put them and if you still think they will go and are worth the cost! Hopefully it doesn't sell before you make your decision!

@adira: That sign is so cute! Glad you had a great shower!

Went to the Midwife today...everything is right on track! I'm finally +3 on my weight gain. I gained 4 pounds in the past 3 weeks, but she said that's fine.

I've had sinus issues this weekend. My son and hubby also have them, so at least I don't have to suffer alone. Mine isn't as bad as my son's, though, which is good. I just have a mild headache and a few nosebleeds.

My crib comes today! It's been at my parents house, and they're bringing it this afternoon. It'll be great to finally have *something* happening!

And, at this point in my pregnancy with my son, I would be going into labor tonight! But, everything looks like I'm not. In fact, my midwife is betting that I might even go all the way up to my due date. I'll let you know how I feel about that in 4 weeks or so, haha.

@katiew92081: Great report! Glad that it looks like baby girl is staying in her spot for awhile. I know you are relieved about that.

@katiew92081: So glad to hear that everything is going smoothly with your pregnancy and baby looks like she's staying put for now! Definitely a good sign! You're doing such a great job!!! And that's exciting about the crib! Is it already put together, or will you need to put it together once you get it?

My parents are coming this weekend to help put our crib together and put the furniture into the nursery. I'm excited to finally see things start to come together! I just need to make sure I buy a mattress protector before they come because I want to put my crib set together, but I don't have a mattress protector yet.

Can I just take a moment and say that a small part of me is jealous of the baby showers? Like, not green eyed monster grr jealous but I wish we were having a baby shower sometime soon. With Henry just now turning one, all of baby stuff is still new/hardly used, there's no need for us to have another baby shower. Even though there is some stuff we would like new/different version of, no such luck unless we buy it ourselves.

Unless, of course, we have a girl instead of another boy. In which case, all bets are off...

@naturallycathy: aww! Maybe you can do a "meet the baby" party after your baby is born? You can say no gifts or whatever, but you and babe can still get some special attention. (and people will bring something anyways!)

@katiew92081: I just love seeing how the showers went for you guys and I wish I had something to share with you guys. And you're right, maybe we can have an after baby party. Great idea, thank you!

@NaturallyCathy: Maybe someone can throw you a "Sprinkle" instead of a shower! You could just register for a few new things and it would be okay as everyone knows you probably need some new things if they wanted to go off a registry!

@Adira: Yay for your mattress! I still haven't put the mattress protector on, but our mattress is still in the bag - DH didn't want it to get dusty.

@katiew92081: Exciting for your crib and things starting to move along! Is your +3 your total weight gain? OMG! That's incredible! They told me baby is already +4lbs herself now!

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I vote for the meet the baby party as well. You know if baby is a girl, people will bring you all kinds of gifts. I have noticed in the last couple years all the shower I have been too, girl ones get way more clothes.

@Smurfette: VERY pretty artwork! I know the dilema - it's SO hard now that we are at the point of deciding what we REALLY want/need vs. what we can hold off on. My last nursery decision is on the PBK black-out ruffle curtains ($200/pair) and if we need a crib skirt. I still haven't heard from my aunt yet if she's made me the crib skirt and I don't want to be pushy. And I keep thinking $200 is so much for the curtains... but they are so pretty. Just like your pretty paintings! Gah! What do we do?

  33. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: I really wanted those curtains too, but now we would need 4 and they don't have the pink in stock.

ETA: PBK has free shipping today.

@Adira: Oh Adira! I am SOOO happy for you! Your shower sounded lovely and I know you had been worried about gifts and stuff! What a sweet personalized gift and perfect for that striped wall space in the nursery - maybe over the crib or changing area?
I love that basket too! Are you going to use it for room decor? You should totally put the blankets or towels in them to do newborn pics as a prop - even if you just take them yourself!

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: I was actually thinking the exact same thing, that I should use that basket and do newborn pics with it!!! I just hope I'm not too overwhelmed being a new parent and have TIME to do it!!! I'm getting so excited about meeting the baby!!

  36. shopaholic

@Adira: @Smurfette: You know what? We didn't get as many clothes as I thought we would have! Our "memos" were probably heard loud and clear between DH and my sister telling everyone how much clothes Kaitlyn has already! We still got probably a dozen or so outfits, but the REAL kicker was that she got about 12 pairs of shoes and more socks! The shoes are all like Newborn to 6 months sizes!

@Smurfette: Sorry about your SIL. I was a bit worried my SIL wouldn't show either. She was really pregnant during my bridal shower and didn't show. Then last week she tore her MCL skiing and is on crutches so she had mentioned she didn't know if she would show. I don't know if my ILs or DH said anything to her, but I was thinking "oh great, she's not coming to my thing again." But she did. Granted, she only lives about an hour away though.

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@shopaholic: Oh wow! I don't think we got ANY shoes, though we did get about a dozen pairs of socks. It's good you didn't get too many more outfits though since you already have a ton!

  38. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Smurfette: I think Target has a pink version of the ruffle too if you like? It's a lot thinner than the PBK version and the white ruffled one from Target just looked dingy and grey. But it might be worth a look if you want the pink ones?

@Adira: I'm hoping the "running on adrenaline" thing will be true the first couple of weeks and I will have the energy to take a ton of pics myself! lol!

  39. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Adira: Actually I just went back to the pile to look - probably about 20 outfits. But I am going to try and return some for store credit. Not because they're ugly or anything, just, I'd prefer to choose my own stuff.

@shopaholic: hahaha, I hope that's how it works out!
