Well, I don't think I actually have mastitis. I guess it's possuble, but maybe I am just sick. I went a little longer between feeds with her yesterday, and was full but I don't have the classic pain and redness. I feel muuuuch better, and when I took my temp this morning it was only 99 so I think I may wait it out. Here's goping. Luckily, DH is home todsy with me and went out to the store to get me seltzer water, snacks, and a birthday cake! Also, we are getting a couch from craigslist today! I am pumped:)
Thank you for all of your concerns!

@pastemoo: woohoo for amazing days and birthdays - happy birthday!!
yes, solids is becoming so much fun! We're mixing flavors, I found he will eat peas mixed with applesauce lol. He also loves carrots, bananas and pears. I need to find out how he'll eat avocado. And I want to try some more veggies.
We are GF by choice. Only because it's healthier and we feel better like this After I lost a bunch of weight going GF (not by choice), I realized how amazing it is. And though it is more expensive, I have found amazing recipes that allow me to not miss other foods.
We're still testing out the inserts... we'll see. Last night tho I put him to bed in a pocket with minky and thirsties hemp, and my 4 am he was soaked= fail.
@cvbee: OH NO!!! ugh that sounds like an awful, awful night. I'm so sorry.
@Mrsdaredevil: yup, my right produces more. But it was kind self-induced I think lol
Cobi had his 6 month appt yesterday! He is doing so awesome. I'm so proud of him.
He is 15 lbs 6.5 oz, and 25.5" long. He can turn pages of books, he engages with people and is very observant on his surroundings. The dr was impressed with his development and said he's doing great!! He is such a sweetie.
Oh! And @cvbee - I asked her and she said by Cobi's age, 6 months, it's totally fine to let them sleep with a light blanket like an A&A!

@cvbee: That is awful! I hope you get well soon.
Back from the doctor's (psychiatrist) and.... drumroll please... I have severe sleep deprivation. Um. Duh. I know! So what can I do about it? "get more sleep" the doctor says. Ugh. So frustrated and tired right now. Thinking of how I can take a nap (safely) while the baby is awake....currently he won't let me set him down. Left him crying for 5 min in swing, 5 min in crib, he won't sleep! DH is on another 10 hour day at work.

@pastemoo: Oh no - that totally sucks. I probably would have stared at the psychiatrist and said "no shit, but how am I going to do that with a 3 month old? You want to babysit for a few hours so I can sleep?!?"
Can your husband take the night feedings for a few days so you can get some decent rest?

@pastemoo: I am so sorry! That sucks. Do you have family or friends nearby that can come by to give you a hand?

@pastemoo: oh my freaking lanta... for real?! yeah. wow. um. *blank stare*
I'm so sorry you can get LO to sleep that sucks major. Since he wants you to hold him, have you tried letting him sleep/rest in the crook of your arm while you lay on your bed or on the floor?

@duckduckkristen: Have you made an appointment to see a therapist yet? I think it could really help with the anxiety. I know that irrational fears are one of the symptoms to look out for post-baby. Good luck!
I just booked a hotel room for our 2 year anniversary. Downtown so we can walk to a nice dinner, and then pass out and sleep a full night. My parents said they'd watch Audrey overnight. It's still a month away, but I'm so excited!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Goldilocks1107: yay! for a full night of sleep! How exciting!
@pastemoo: nope, they have Stage 1 pouches too. And yup, we did the SNS system at the hospital and for a few days afterwards as well. We do already supplement probably a bottle a day of formula.
And wow, no shit sherlock re: your dr
@duckduckkristen: yea, I think M goes through phases when she goes on a mini nursing strike. And I hope your anxiety gets better.
@cvbee: Yikes on the kidney stone!
@bpcmarj: whew! Good thing you don't have mastitis. Can't be fun!
@Coco Bee: yay for Cobi! Can't wait for M's 4month check up on Wednesday
***
I'm so proud of M! Last night a old college friend of ours was passing through on the way to Toronto. So he and our good friends came over for dinner. We were planning on keeping M up a little bit so that he can meet her etc. She stayed up till 730pm and she was sooo good. She talked and laughed and just sat in her bouncer playing with Sophie while we all ate dinner. Then I nursed her -no problem- and she fell right asleep. Night time feedings are kinda a blur right now but I think she woke up around midnight then slept till 5am.
Who asked about AF? No signs of her yet - yay!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@Coco Bee: LOL Eventually we fell asleep like this.... but oops it was 5 50 pm. So... the whole night was screwed up. *Yay* BUT he is almost asleep now. Naptime for mommy!
@duckduckkristen: I agree with goldilocks about getting a therapy appointment. It's no fun living with that kind of stress!
@Goldilocks1107: Yay! Happy anniversary!

@Goldilocks1107: omg your night away from baby sounds amazing!
I just googled post partum anxiety and I didn't realize it was a common thing. I had only heard of ppd. I definitely have it though. It so weird because I'm totally happy, I just have a ton of irrational fears. Anyways, because I was very over medicated for anxiety and depression as a teen, I am very against meds for myself (but obvs, I know they a are great for other people, when prescribed and used correctly) so I guess I should probably see a therapist. How do you even find one who specializes in post partum issues? Should I see my midwife first?
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@duckduckkristen: You don't need a specialist (although I didn't have one and look what he told me. Hah.) Call your PCP or OB office and see if they have any recommendations.

This is kind of random but is anyone else thinking of their next baby's name already? I am kind of name obsessed (I have been actively researching names since I was oh, 16). I can't stop thinking about them! Haha
@duckduckkristen: I have had some irrational thoughts since having baby too. We were on a ferry two weeks ago and I just couldn't stop picturing her going over the edge. It was pretty traumatic. I hope some therapy helps you.
@Goldilocks1107: that night away is going to be soooooo nice. I need to work up the guts to do that
persimmon / 1087 posts
I need to vent....
I've had one of those crappy days. I'm having the worst cramps and AF is horrible postpartum vs before child. Cooper has spit up more than ever today. I'm wondering if he's having too much formula. He's only having 25-30 oz a day depending on how many feeds he has. Most of the bibs I washed yesterday are covered in spit up. When will this end?!!
On a more positive note, we are starting solids on Saturday and hubby and I are so excited! He's still a very happy baby, and seems oblivious and sometimes relieved after a spit up. And he is 4 months today!
I took Cooper to visit daddy at work today and to take him around to the people there. He was a hit! When one of the ladies asked if he was going to follow in daddy's footsteps and be an engineer, he made an 'ick' face. Then she asked him if he will he a baseball player, he grinned and gurgled. That's my boy! Taking after his mama. Let's hope we have an athletic boy!

So, I called my midwives office and they referred me to a therapist who specializes in ppd so I called her and left a message.
There is so much banging going on it the kitchen today (I think the wall is coming down today) but apparently Liam loves it. He has been napping for over an hour now, when usually I only get 30-45 minutes out of him. I don't know how he sleeps through all of this noise!
I started reading to him last night and he looooves picture books. He will just sit quietly, stare, or try to touch the books while I read them and then he reaches for them when I put them down. I started looking through the baby sign language kit I got and I think I might start using a few signs soon, even though it will be months before he can actually sign back.
Sounds like he's waking up...

Happy Birthday to everyone celebrating birthdays!
Addie is still mid-sleep strike so I'm pretty tired and without much freetime on my hands to keep up here.
We've had some better nights and naps, but she's still not back to her old routine and still likes to throw in a horrendous night here and there to keep us on our toes... well me... DH doesn't do the night shift. I'm sure its a 'wonder week' issue as the three c's is totally her right now. If she's being held and snuggled, she's happy though so at least there's that.
I'm in the middle of AF's second visit since A was born. I'm not at all impressed. Its actually made the past few days pretty hellish. Flow is always heavier/longer now, I tooootally notice it impacting my moods and emotions which I never really did before and I'm pretty sure its messing with my supply too. A has been spitting mad at most feedings lately, too impatient for let down and pissed that dinner seems to be over before she's ready. Ugh... the only positive is somehow I don't cramp any more. @calsmom: even without the cramps, I totally agree its awful now.
@pastemoo: Hope you can get some rest!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@LAGS: @calsmom: ugh you ladies are making me fear AF's return!!! I'd always had horrible cramps so I can't imagine that intensified!
@Mrsdaredevil: we might have a pretty good idea if it's a boy but if it's a girl? No idea. I don't think we'll revisit that until #2 is viable!:D

When's everyone thinking of starting solids? M is showing interest but I don't see it happening in like the next few weeks. Depending on the ped's prognosis I think we'll try to hold off till 6 months unless she really starts to show a interest. But I'm ready for her!
grapefruit / 4056 posts
Well, Sawyer had 3 perfect naps yesterday, but still a crappy sleep at night (waking every 3 - 3 1/2 hours but slept 12 hours overall). I think the silence at night is an issue, so I have a white noise machine on the way, hopefully it arrives soon.
I have no desire at all to start Sawyer on solids yet, and he is totally not ready (if you go by cues). I am going to start making some purees and prepping some of our garden veggies for him (we are going to do semi BLW), so when he is showing cues and I feel like it is time I can get started.
We might be going to an event for DH's work tonight (depending on when he makes it home), but it is semi-formal, and we don't have anything suitable for Sawyer at home ... do you think babies are exempt from semi-formal clothing status?
@bpcmarj: Glad to hear you are feeling better!
@Coco Bee: I have great luck with Tot bot bamboozles fitteds at night. Sawyer would wake up soaked in a pocket with any insert I am sure. We got the bamboozles as hand-me-downs from my SIL and they absorb a ton. You would only need 2 or 3 to use them as night diapers, it might be worth a try.
@pastemoo: Oh no! I find when I am really exhausted the best thing I can do is take a nap on our bed with Sawyer. He naps longer that way as well, so I can usually get a 2 hour nap.
@Goldilocks1107: Sounds like a great little get away!
@Mrsdaredevil: Names were such a challenge for us, I am not looking forward for the name search for baby #2 and #3. Luckily, I think we will be waiting a while before that becomes an issue.
@duckduckkristen: Sawyer definitely sleeps better with noise. I have a white noise machine coming, because I think the silence at night might be bugging his night sleep.

@Mrsdaredevil: haha I'm obsessed too!! I wish I could name a bunch of children lol!!
If we have a girl we will probably use one of the names we had liked before we knew Cobi was a boy.
If we have another boy, we might use some of the "rejects" lol cause I still love those names.
eggplant / 11287 posts
@regberadaisy: I think we will start at 5 months or so, but I can't really say. She has been watching us eat like crazy now, and always bats at our food. I have given her tastes of raspberry and blueberry juice so far, but no actual solids.
@MsMini: he is totally exempt!! Do you have jeans and a cute plaid shirt you can put him in?
@Coco Bee: seriously. I want 8 kids just so I can pick out names for them all. I am addicted to nameberry.com
@LAGS: af sounds so awful! Remind me, are you EBF?
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@Mrsdaredevil: I do, unfortunately my DH had to work late so we won't make it to the event There is another work thing tomorrow that Sawyer is invited too though, so we will see everyone then. The one today was pretty last minute, so I don't think a lot of people would have made it (it just came together yesterday).
clementine / 916 posts
@duckduckkristen: Our LO napped like a dream during our renos too!
@regberadaisy: A watches us eat now but that's the only interest she's shown so far. I'm assuming we'll be waiting closer to the 6 month mark unless our Ped recommends otherwise.
@Mrsdaredevil: We have our lists from naming A, we have a few favs for boys, but would probably end up starting from scratch for girls.
@Mrsdaredevil: I am EBF... which is why I'm so bitter about it, I would have loved to be period free for a long time. When it first came I thought maybe it was a fluke and wouldn't be regular.. but ohhh was I wrong.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@regberadaisy: Yay for her staying up! That is adorable!
Thinking of starting solids ASAP because he seems so interested but he can't sit up yet. Actually even if we try to pull him up or hold him sitting he tries to stand. He loves standing up and really doesn't sit. He has to be able to sit up to eat so I think that is the milestone we need in order to start solids. Poor little guy. He watches us eat and sticks his tongue out every time we open our mouths to eat. It is so funny!
I'm scared about the AF cramps. AF has not returned, but I do still get cramps--that freaks me out. I also used to have terrible cramps/long flow and that's why I went on birth control in the first place. I also heard that there is increased risk of endometriosis after a c-section, so I am extra scared.
@LAGS: My DH doesn't do the night shift either. I hope you get some sleep!
@MsMini: LOL! Of course babies don't have to be semi formal! Just add pants and he's an instant hit at the party.
@duckduckkristen: That's cute. Gabriel loves loud background sounds--so I used to do dishes and laundry when he slept. Now I'm trying to sleep when he sleeps, but it doesn't last as long.
@Mrsdaredevil: We fought so much about names--I can't even go there yet! We didn't agree on ANYTHING!
@calsmom: Glad Cooper was such a hit at work. Sorry he's spitting up so much. I wouldn't worry about it unless it bothers him. Sometimes Gabriel even LAUGHS after he has a giant spit-up.
eggplant / 11287 posts
@LAGS: it is crazy how different everyone is. My mom didn't get her period till she stopped breastfeeding entirely, which was at 2 years!!
persimmon / 1087 posts
@pastemoo: That's funny our boys seem relieved after spit-ups! Do you have to do a ton of laundry due to the spitting up? It's an everyday occurrence in this house.
As for solids and not sitting up yet, Cooper's ped said that we can hold him while feeding him until he is able to sit up on his own.
I was having a banana earlier and decided to give some to Cooper off of my finger. OMG he loved it and was kicking his legs and flapping his arms for more! That's that. We'll be feeding him bananas first!

Hi gals. That next day after the night with the kidney stone pain in the hospital I was soooo tired. I could barely walk at a normal pace when pushing the stroller. In the evening I finally just told DH that he had to be Nico's good person because I didn't have anything left to give. Oh, and then I got another clogged milk duct.
But today I felt much better, and the milk duct was clear by morning. I've been trying to catch up on all the things I should have done when I was sick, plus clean our house because DH invited the in-laws for the long weekend. I feel like I have to be a good host because I was not last time they were here (when Nico was 2 weeks old and it was also dance recital weekend). I remember cleaning up from them leaving and noticing that they hadn't noticed where the guest towels were, that the main bathroom was out of hand soap, and a few other things that bothered me. This time I want to impress them, so I just gave the house a deep-clean and I feel much better.
I'm way behind so i'll just make a few quick comments on general discussion:
-cloth diapers overnight: my pee-pee leak problems went away when I put them on one snap tighter
-no AF here
-spit up: by feeding more frequently less amounts Nico spits up way less, but I still have him with a muslin blanket all day long and that thing soaks up sooooooooo much spit up and drool it is like a miracle. As for my clothes, I have just stopped changing and accepted that I wear spit-up clothes.
-oh, by the way, those cramps the other night where I thought maybe for a moment I was pregnant made me say to DH today "um, we're using condoms from now on" (had been pull and pray plus EBF
-solids: after letting Nico gnaw on banana, next he had butternut squash.....then I got busy and sick etc, so I just stopped. They say food before 1 is just for fun. So, I'm only going to give Nico tastes of things when I spontaneously feel like it, since he's only four months old.
-irrational baby fears: My first 2 times driving to yoga I kept thinking that DH was going to drop Nico and his little head was going to crack open. After those 2 times I haven't thought of it since.
-oh, last night when I had my clogged milk duct I then had a very realistic dream that my breasts got all lumpy and grotesque from clogged milk duct complications....it was horrible, and I was so glad to see my breasts looking normal in the morning
-names: I try not to think about names for baby #2, but every now and then I will admit to visiting name websites just for that reason
-formalwear for baby boys: my favourite semi-formal wear for baby boys are pants with suspenders. A friend of mine just got some for her little guy at H&M
-re all the birthdays around here: did you people conceive on your birthdays? hey? Are you guys all keeping track of the "last year at this time I was...". For me September 1st is the day I got my BFP, I think. It's been quite a year!
@duckduckkristen: I just loved your description of Liam's reactions to you reading him a book. I was so surprised how much Nico enjoys books too, and it's a great thing! Yay for reading!
Okay, this cleaning-machine needs to get some rest. (So sorry about @pastemoo with the sleep deprivation....can totally see how that would happen.....if I have just one day where Nico's sleep is off, I become very grumpy to say the least, so I can only imagine what would happen if you never got to catch up.) Might not be able to check in until after the weekend when the in-laws leave, but I will probably read the posts every night. Have a great weekend everyone!

Ladies....I did not want to jinx it. But for two nights in a row M has been back to her sleep till 2/3am for her first stretch. Wednesday night she slept from 830-2amish then it was like bi/hrly feedings. Last night she slept from 800-240am. Then I fell asleep nursing her so I put her back in her crib around 4amish and she slept till 630am. Which is wake up time! @pastemoo: Well I didn't necessarily buy all 5 strollers. With Mavi we had 2. The travel one and an umbrella chicco one (that I love) I shipped that one to my moms seeing I didn't need it now and she loves bringing Mavrick for walks. Then my next door neighbor gave me a snap and go (okay, maybe that's considered a half stroller) and then 2 baby trends. 1 double, 1 jogger. We are selling our first travel stroller/car seat set, so we will be down to 4 and when Sienna is too big for the car seat the snap and go will be gone too. Not so bad. right?! ha.
@cvbee: Haha, that's one thing I did not want to do. Keep going until I had a girl. I told myself if it wasn't a girl this time, i'd be a soccer/hockey mom.

BTW we all know that even though we are BFing and AF has not returned we can technically still get pregnant right???
http://kellymom.com/bf/normal/fertility/
That being said reading this article:
http://www.lalecheleague.org/llleaderweb/lv/lvdec98jan99p128.html
The statistics are a little insane! Does this mean if we want to conceive at around the one year mark BFing can actually really hinder the chances??
nectarine / 2039 posts
@Mrs. Sunglasses: I will try to tell myself that too if #2 is a boy.....man, how am I already getting all worked up about #2?!
@regberadaisy: speaking of #2, thanks for the PSA about possibly getting pregnant. I was all like "well, if it happens it happens" with our EBF and pull&pray combo....but the other night when at first I thought I might be pregnant, it was the worst feeling ever to think that I don't actually want a new baby now, so I announced that we're going to have to start using condoms (something we have only had to do a couple times when I was on antibiotics). And as for breastfeeding interfering with TTC, I can see that....especially if you are one of the people who don't get AF. Thanks for sharing the links. PS. The most interesting sentence for me: "Women who experience a return of their periods in the first six months tend to be infertile for a few cycles, while the early cycles of women experiencing a longer period of amenorrhea are often fertile."

@cvbee I'm so glad you feel better, that had to be really tough being so sick, having your lo to take care of! According to my doctors prediction of Lily's due date (was may 7, she was born on April 28) Lilys conception date was August 15 last year, my birthday! And actually May 7 her EDD was hubby's birthday! Haha just a little fluke
@goldilocks1107 congrats I'm your weight loss! Yay for baby laughs! And your little getaway sounds glorious! Uninterrupted sleep, I am jealous!
@calsmom how cute, the reaction to banana! We tried rice cereal with Lily yesterday for the first time. She loved it! She was coming towards the spoon, and doing the flapping her arms excited thing! She only ate maybe a teaspoon full, but we aren't putting any pressure on it, just so cute! I also let her try some homemade applesauce off of my finger and she loved that also!
@regebera yay for crib sleep! Your nights sound exactly like ours! 8-2:30, then it's tough to go down after that.
So Lily's newest puzzle for us, I just got her back to sleeping in her crib pretty well the past two nights. Last night she did a stretch from 8-2:30. Then about an hour later I heard her fuss a bit but she quieted. Hubby went to the bathroom and checked her while he was up, and she was on her belly, with her arms at her side and her face flat into the mattress! She didn't turn her head at all! So he moved her and she didn't wake, but an hour later I heard her fuss again, I went to check and she did the same thing again! We have the angelcare monitor and it never alarmed so hopefully she was breathing, but At that point it was 4 am I was nervous, so I pulled her into bed with me. We've been practicing rolling over, but she doesn't quite always figure out going from belly to back, so usually at night she really wails when she gets stuck on her belly. It just makes me nervous because the highest SIDS risk is 2-4 months. Oh well, hopefully she doesn't do it again. At what age do they know to turn their heads when they can't breathe? Speaking of nervous mommas.....I'm constantly having thoughts that Lily is going to get hurt blah no fun
GOLD / pomelo / 5167 posts
@regberadaisy: Solids : I fed Mavrick solids early one (3 months) but he was constantly on my boob eating and then went to formula. So With Sienna, I'll try and hold off as long as I can, maybe at the 5.5 month mark so that by 6 months she can start eating fruits and veggies.
@Mrsdaredevil: Names, funny you say that because before Mavrick we had a girl name picked out, but when I got pregnant and found out it was a girl, that name was no longer interesting. We ended up with something completely different. So ya, you can think about it... but it might change along the way Don't tell me you are already thinking of baby 2?! lol How far apart do you want them?
@duckduckkristen: Mavrick LOVES white noise. It saved us... Sienna still sleeps downstairs with us and we have a fan going on constantly so a form of white noise. I would leave the house without my sleep sheep. lol
Who's AF returned while EBF? Mine hasn't (yay) but I know so many who's AF returned. How old was baby when it came back?
Also, are all your babies in cribs now? Sienna is still sleeping in the bassinette next to our room because she wakes up hourly (lately) I just want her to sleep the same 3 consecutive nights and then I'll switch her to her crib. I just don't want to constantnly go up and down the stairs (her nursery is upstairs)

@cvbee: re: this time last year. I got my BFP on August 25th, 4 days before my bday. I am pretty certain that Penny was actually born at 43 weeks, not 42. They.estimated conception as August 1, I think it was really July 25th. I had been off BC for a week at that point, and in early August I remember telling my Mom that my boobs hurt really bad and being unsure if I was pregnant or if it was hormonal from going off BC.
