@chanada: oh yeah.. after dinner I look so pregnant, but I wake up looking fairly normal. Sorry, I don't have much advice, but I wonder if it's based on the size and content of our meals? I'm sure salty foods don't help or heavy meals.. Not sure though - curious to hear what others say!

I feel really round but then I can still get my fat jeans on, so maybe it is just belly bloat and not baby?
Definitely after lunch I just don't have the energy to suck in my stomach anymore so I look bigger than in the morning...
pear / 1849 posts
I actually asked my doctor this afternoon at my appt why my belly was so big and he said at this point it's mostly intestinal bloating. That's why it kinda flattens out when I lay down. He showed me that the uterus is still below the belly button, so most of it is actually bloat, not baby. And since my son was so large last time, my belly just can't contain the bloat
Good news though! The doctor felt bad that because of the holidays my anatomy scan was being pushed back to 21 weeks, so he said they will do a mini-anatomy scan in the office at my next appt and hopefully be able to tell me gender. I'll be 16 weeks 5 days, so fingers crossed!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Yes, I think it might be the types of food. and then sometimes I think I eat too fast when I'm super hungry! haha
it's just pretty uncomfortable, I feel like I might burst sometimes. I didn't really have this with my first pregnancy.

@SeptMomma12: oh that's so exciting to her your scan early!! Mine's the Friday before Christmas, which feels SO far away, but I know it will come fast! Glad they'll get you in early.
@chanada: I feel you. I'm hoping once we feel truly pregnant and get into normal maternity wear it will be better and more consistent throughout the day.

Oof, I am wearing a regular work shirt that will have to be retired after today. This week I feel so much bigger than last, anyone else with me?
Any fun plans for Thanksgiving? Definitely a great chance to wear elastic pants

@MsHangry: I;m really looking forward to thanksgiving! Most of our family is typically out of town so DH and I have a small gathering at our house…and I do majority of the cooking…but this year, tons of family is in town so we'll be having thanksgiving together at DH's aunt's house. I offered to help but she told me not to do a thing! …so I'm definitely looking forward to wearing a stretchy dress and eating

So how was everyone's thanksgivings???
I had to tell people to hands off the baby belly and I got a few awkward comments regarding pregnancy. Always fun. E got a lot of christmas gifts early since we won't see my folks for Christmas and she chased their cat around.
pear / 1849 posts
@blackbird: Ours was good! Pretty small this year, so no unwelcome belly touches or strange comments yet. Those will all come at Christmas...
I did get a few comments from immediate family about how much food I put on my plate. But hey, if I'm pregnant for the holidays, I'm going to take advantage!
I knew BH contractions would come early for me because they started at 20 weeks last time, but they already started now at 15 weeks. So annoying. The doctor said to ignore them but it's easier said than done.

Thanksgiving was fine first time seeing most of DH's family so everyone was excited. I'm really starting to worry about my lack of weight gain, I have an appt Friday so Im going to ask then. We ran into an acquaintance who has a son the same age as DS and is due within days of me and she has an obvious baby bump, and I've got nothing which has made the worrying worse. I did start feeling baby move this weekend so that was the big positive
pear / 1849 posts
@jetsa: I wish we could find a happy medium. The only comments I get are about how huge my belly is! I would try not to worry about it. Everyone carries differently. With my first, I didn't gain anything until 20 weeks and then still gained almost 50 lbs.
I have been feeling some flutters that I think have to be baby but I'm so ready to feel more. Would make me feel a lot better!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@SeptMomma12: exactly; if it's not one thing it's another. I gained 35 lbs with my first and it started immediately after my BFP, my midwife never said anything to me but my chart said "excessive weight gain". My son was 8-3 at birth and has always been a big boy, I'm trying to comfort myself with maybe this is a petite little girl
I hadn't put 2 and 2 together on the flutters but Wednesday morning I was asleep and DH was laying awake with his hand on my belly and said he was being assaulted LOL. This one is crazy, the NP had trouble getting a HB last time bc it was moving so much.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
35 lb is excessive?! Good lord. They say every pregnancy is different, so who knows. You'll have plenty of bump soon enough! I'm gaining pretty steadily at this point. But less than with E, which is a win in my book.
I had told my mom when I was pregnant with E that i don't like being touched or petted, but she must've thought that only applied with E...
pear / 1849 posts
@jetsa: Wow, I have never heard 35 lbs being excessive. My OB didn't care that I gained almost 50 lbs (which is a lot!) because I started out underweight, but I can't imagine labeling 35 lbs as too much.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@blackbird: @SeptMomma12: Yea I was kind of shocked when I read my chart especially since my MW at the time who I had a personal relationship with never mentioned it but it was noted every appt. I wonder if it wasn't automatic when she input the weight. A downside to the fact that they are willing to give you a digital copy of your chart, I suppose. The plus to no bump is that people don't feel the need to touch me yet because I hate it too but both grandmas do it repeatedly.

When do you ladies who are going to find out gender find out? I'm really hoping at my ultrasound next week (12/9) they will be able to tell me!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@SeptMomma12: I have a mini ultrasound friday but we aren't finding out gender
pear / 1849 posts
@jetsa: I sorta wish we could do that, but I just can't wait! Did you find out with your first?
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@SeptMomma12: nope. I'd actually like to find out more this time just so i can explain to DS better but DH doesnt want to and I'm not adamant about finding out.
pear / 1849 posts
@jetsa: My DS insists this is a "sister." I guess at least he will have time to adjust if he's wrong!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@SeptMomma12: aww that's sweet. My DS is only 14 months but he's gotten big into belly's lately. He'll tickle everyone else's and give mine kisses so I think he gets it a little bit.

@SeptMomma12: @jetsa: @blackbird:
I was just wondering about weight gain today! Funny I missed the conversation during the day. I'm back to BFP weight after losing some first trimester to all the nausea and vomiting. I was told to keep the weight gain to 25lbs. It is weird to be able to see changes in my tummy and boobs and not have it reflected on a scale, but I'll take it for now.
I'm glad you all had lovely Thanksgivings. Sorry about the belly rubs. I think back to how many times I did that to people when I was younger and shudder...I straight up poked a friends belly because I wanted to know how hard a pregnant belly was! No warning! How awful
blogger / apricot / 427 posts
@SeptMomma12: That's so funny - my son does this too! He is INSISTENT that the baby is a "baby sister." When I ask him about it being a baby brother, he says, "no way, baby sister."
I think I have very slim odds of it being a girl, but we'll be finding out the week before Christmas (although we're not telling our families that we know).
pear / 1849 posts
@Keppa: So strange, I wonder why they are both so convinced! How old is your LO? Mine just turned 2 in September. I also think there's only a slim chance of this actually being a girl, but I guess we will see.
@jetsa: That's so sweet! DS likes to lift up my shirt, say "Hi baby!" and kiss my belly, then put my shirt back down and say "Bye-bye baby! See you later." It kills me.
kiwi / 623 posts
@SeptMomma12: @Keppa: same here! My little boy (33 months) wants a sister too! I think it's cuz they sing that daddy finger song at school and sister comes after brother. Plus all the little girl stuff is so sparkly and more interesting to the eye vs little boy stuff. Its so adorable but hopefully he won't be too disappointed once things are confirmed

@jetsa: I felt first movements this weekend too! So exciting I loved feeling DD move around when I was expecting her, so I've definitely been looking forward to it this time around
@SeptMomma12: That's interesting that braxton hicks started already for you! I had some cramping last night that I thought felt like BH, but then I thought it must be too early {I'm 16 weeks} ... it's reassuring to know others feel them early, too!
I so wish I was able to enjoy Thanksgiving but my appetite is still so funky. I can only eat so much and nothing really tastes good. Fingers crossed that all gets better in time for Christmas! {{I'm sure I'll have no trouble with Christmas cookies though, of course}}
p.s. sorry for the random drop in comment ... I follow along but never feel like I have much to share
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@rrachael: yay for movement! what you said about your appetite is exactly how I feel. Everything is just meh, unless its junk of course.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@SeptMomma12: I'm finding out Dec 23! The tech took a look at my last one but the baby had its leg right in the way (and was sleeping, so there was no prodding it to move). I love knowing and I can't wait to find out! I'm excited either way. I can't shake the feeling I'm having another girl, though!
I thought i was feeling stuff over the last week but now that I have felt absolutely nothing, I'm thinking it was all in my head. i have an anterior, low placenta this time (as of my last scan), so I think it may be a bit longer.

Hi Ladies! Thanksgiving was good, but I also got an unwelcome belly pat from my BIL. So awkward! He's got 3 kids & I'm sure his wife has taught him better than this. But I took it in stride & just recognize they are all so excited for us. I still haven't found her on Doppler (though I haven't been trying very often), nor have I felt any movement yet, but eager to get to that point. We are trying to gear up to do the little bit of work on the house in order to start getting the nursery ready (new carpet & other flooring, mostly, on that floor). We have actually already bought her crib & a dresser/changing table, so I'm getting excited to get to that stuff & set it up, too! On one hand time feels like it's going slowly right now with feeling significant progress in being pregnant, but on the other, I just KNOW we are going to run out of time to prepare for baby girl!

Hi everyone! No Thanksgiving here in Australia, but I'm jealous of all your Turkey! I must get some for Christmas
@SeptMomma12: our gender scan isn't until the 5th of Jan...waaaah so far away. DH & I both have our suspicions that it is a boy... but maybe that cause we can only imagine having a boy cause we already have one.... I would really like to have 2 boys so close in age but a girl would be awesome too....aslong as he/she is healthy right? I do feel like the US tech was hinting at our last scan... I don't know maybe I am imagining it... I swear he said "HE" and there is a few photos where I'm like is that something... but its probably waaay too early to tell at 12/13 weeks right?
@jetsa: I haven't gained any weight yet either... I have lost about 3kg...and gained about 1kg back so still 2kg under my prepreg weight. I'm not worried, the same thing happened when I was pregnant with E thanks to morning sickness. I do have a definate little bump though... I wouldn't worry.. especially if you are feeling movement!!! I'm feeling movement too.... love it, one of my favourite things about being pregnant... DH is dying to be able to feel movement again too, hopefully it will get stronger soon.
@rrachael: totally agree with you on the food front too... everything is meh...I have a bad aversion to anything tangy too...tomato sauce (ketchup?) is the worst!
nectarine / 2522 posts
@GoGoSnoGirl: You are soo organised! I feel bad that I haven't bought anything for this baby yet! I have two nursery themes in mind but have to wait for the gender scan before I can decide and get going! Plus our only spare room is going to be bubs rooms so we kind of need to leave it a spare room aslong as possible! AND we will be moving again when LO is 2 or 3 months old so I won't go too overboard as he/she will be in our room for the first month or so!

This is the pic I was talking about from 12w3d....taken from underneath the bottom to measure the bladder.....do you see maybe a little something...lol or am I reading too much into it?
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Our tech told us it's moot to guess at 12/13 weeks because the little girl parts are very swollen and easily look like little boy parts. She said, at best, it's a 50/50 guess and she'll do it for fun if she can see, but she's not often right.
anybody sick and pregnant? I want to pop the good drugs sooo bad, but i can't. i just want to lay on the couch and be a sad panda all day, but E had a fever last so she's home with me today, but was running around like a crazy girl last night before bed. So unfortunately, no day off for this mom! I'm hoping she'll just sit nicely with me and watch tv while I lay down a large chunk of the day. if i get to feeling better (after I get some meds in me, surely?), I'll run out to a craft store with her.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@blackbird: boo. For the moment we are all healthy here, but we were sick a few weeks ago hopefully E will watch some TV with you today.
@Mrs squirreld: that's good to know, I'm just nervous bc the nurse had already said something to me last time though the NP said it didnt matter.
pear / 1849 posts
@Mrs squirreld: From what I've been told, girl and boy parts look identical at 12 weeks. Mine actually appeared to have something big between his/her legs at the 12 week scan. Looked exactly like the penis in DS' ultrasounds, so I assumed it had to be boy, but when I posted it on one of those gender ultrasound sites, the tech actually said it was way too soon for a "potty shot" and she was actually guessing girl based on the nub.
@blackbird: This pregnancy has just been one giant cold, over and over. I don't think I've been healthy for more than a week at a time. It's brutal. Luckily DS has somehow managed to stay healthy, knock wood! Feel better!

@septmomma12 Our scan is on Monday, December 8th! Somehow we are not going to peek in the envelope until our gender reveal party on the 10th. It's going to be the hardest for me, because I am so impatient. But I am really just excited to see our LO on the screen since I haven't had an ultrasound since our emergency scan at 6 weeks.

@blackbird: I hope you feel better soon!
@littlepeanut: I haven't seen mine since week 6 too! My scan is scheduled for Dec 22, I'm so excited!
Here is the bump I've got this morning. 16w3d. I am extremely short waisted and short in general so the only room is to go out front I guess.
ETA: in real life it feels huge. Glad to see it isn't *that big* in the photo
pear / 1849 posts
@littlepeanut: I'm impressed you can wait like that!
@MsHangry: You look great! I'm pretty tall (5'8") but I still pop straight out in front too. This belly is insane right now. I'll try to take a picture later.

So someone at work who I barely know just said to me "Wow, you're really packing on the weight this time, huh?" Um, thanks a lot...
