I am so frustrated ladies. Due date was 1/3 and it came and went. Just got home from the doctor and there's some progress (I'm 2cm and 70 effaced: up from last week's 1cm and 60%), but during the 20 minutes I was hooked up to the monitor I didn't have a single contraction. womp womp.
I now have an official induction appointment on 1/13 although the doctor is 85% sure I'll go into labor before then. Then again, she thought I wouldn't make it to my due date. Meanwhile the baby is not getting any smaller. I'm so worried I'll end up needing a c-section.
honeydew / 7295 posts
@Meowkers: most c sections that are due to size are the head size not the baby so no amount of waiting will change that. Lots of people have big babies vaginally but you know what I don't think you will make it to your induction! I really don't. Majority of babies are born within one week of their due date statistically so I'd say any day now. Labor dust to you! I went overdue too and was so miserable I could cry.

@HappyBaker: Ahhh, he is adorable - congratulations!!! I love those smooshy cheeks
@Meowkers: Ugh, I'm sure you're frustrated. I'm betting you'll go into labor in the next few days though. My doctor told me he didn't think I'd make it to my due date (which is now your induction date, 1/13) and I wish he hadn't said it, because now I'll feel like it's torture if I do go past. Hope your water breaks tonight!

@HappyBaker: congrats!! So handsome!
@Meowkers: aw. Hang in there. You are almost there!!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Meowkers: If it makes you feel any better I was induced 10 days past my due date with #1 except my cervix was shut tight. Thankfully you are already showing some progress of something happening down there. I'd take it as a good sign! I know what you are going through, the waiting is torture. Hang in there mama!

@Meowkers: Ugh, I really hope you go into labor soon! That sucks. It's just such a mental beatdown to think of going past your due date, even though we all know it's an estimate. I think they should give us a 2-week range so we can't focus on one date because I know for sure that if I go one day past my due date I'm going to feel way more miserable. Sending you lots of labory thoughts!

@MrsMccarthy: @keepcalmcarrie: @SleepyMonkey: @MapleMoose: @Mrs. Blue: Thank you so much for the encouragement. I'm trying to just remind myself that a few days won't make a difference in the long run.
I worked up until my due date but now I'm finally on maternity leave so I'm just trying to enjoy having some time to myself to sleep, relax and take it easy. I know I won't have that for a long time once the baby arrives.

@Meowkers: Sorry to hear!!
On my due date... last baby ... my OB did a scrap during the 40 week check up (some how I thought that was common) and that induced my labor... took 3 days though... so LO was 3 days late. Did your OB do anything like that?
blogger / pomegranate / 3491 posts
@Meowkers: I was 12 days late with my first (then induced). It was the worst. Glad you are taking some time to take care of you. Hang in there
persimmon / 1364 posts
@Raindrop: yes she did it last week and this week. She warned me that she doesn't really believe it works but that another OB in the practice swears it helps so she offers it to her patients. Can't hurt so why not?

@Raindrop: What's scrap? Did you get autocorrected? Whatever you're talking about, I'm asking for next appointment!
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@MrsHansen82: haha. Just looked it up.
It is called
Membrane scraping
Striping the membrane
Sweeping membrane
It is when your OB checks your dialation and sweep/scrape the opening of the cerix with their fingers. It hurts a tiny bit but some believe it helps induce labor

@Raindrop: I thought that was what you meant. Yeah definitely asking for this!

@HappyBaker: So glad it all worked out for you and baby Logan! He is one handsome fellow! Congratulations!
@Meowkers: I know the others have said so too but try not to stress. My first was born at 41+2 weeks and he had always been a big baby at u/s (like 95% +) and he had a head circumference in the 56% in the end, was 8.5 lbs and really long 22.5 in. We had no problems with the natural birth. Also might just go into labor without having and signs that it's imminent. I went to bed last time after an uneventful day to wake up 5 hours later to contractions. Hope you'll get to hold your LO soon!!!
I just love waking up to new babies each morning

Thanks so much everyone! He is definitely a hungry big boy so far! DD is coming to meet him this afternoon, here's hoping it goes well! My birth experience was 1000 times better than with my first - I lost my mucus plug Sunday night, then felt contractions every 10 minutes overnight. Around 4:30am my underwear felt really wet but I didn't get up because daycare doesn't open until 6:30 so I was trying to wait! Once I did get up it was definitely soaked and gross but nothing else was coming out so I wasn't sure if it was my water or not, so we dropped DD off and headed to the hospital for them to check.
I was only a 2 when we checked in at 7:30am but it was my water and I'm GBS positive so I had to stay at that point. My contractions died down and pretty much stopped, so I started pitocin at 11. Got my amazing epidural at 11:45 and by 2:00 had gotten to 10cm! Pushing was hard this time because I was so numb, and the end was scary - he was born transverse so his shoulders were sideways, and the cord was around his neck. So the last 10 minutes or so were scary because the doctor had to keep poking him to get him to breath. But luckily once he was out all was well! I got an epidural with my daughter and now realize how little it worked if at all - for this guy I barely knew I was having contractions on it!

@MrsHansen82: my ob swept mine for #1 and I went into labor the next day.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@HappyBaker: Glad to hear you guys are doing great!!
Your story reminds me of my first kid - LO #1 was born sunny side up... the doctors had to keep turning his head ... but he would turn back. He has the cord wrapped around his neck twice but the doctors quickly removed it when he was born. Yeah the first 10-20 minutes was scary because he didn't cry and the nurses and doctors tried to get him cry but he just would. He was also very blue but you can tell he was breathing. He was grunting for a while. After about 5 hours or so ... a nurse came in to take his temp under his arm and *finally* he cried because he didn't like that. Haha.

@HappyBaker: oh my goodness! glad all is okay! seriously, he has the best cheeks!!
@MrsHansen82: I had mine swept at 39 weeks (nada) and at my 40-week appt, and had her a few hours later!

Anyone else feeling elated and terrified at the same time, with their due dates right around the corner? I've never felt so many emotions at once.
persimmon / 1364 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: absolutely! I'm excited, anxious, happy, terrified, and every other conflicting emotion you can think of.

@SleepyMonkey: I wish my doctor would do this!! She said no when I asked her yesterday. She said it doesn't do much and just causes cramps and bleeding.

@HappyBaker: So glad all was well with him! It must have been stressful.
@CatchAFallingStar: I feel exactly like this!! Every feeling imaginable. Finished lots of little things yesterday like packing diaper bag, charging monitor, picking out some outfits, and feel prepared but I started crying when I was done. It's a lot to think about!
Re: membrane sweep - I heard it hurts a lot! I have an appt on Thurs (39 wks) and was warned at my last appt that it would be a "pants off" appt and I wonder if the Dr. will offer to do it. I'm kind of nervous about it! Our labor class instructor recommended not doing it - but if it helps me move toward going into labor naturally then I'm thinking I should consider it. So overwhelming.
persimmon / 1481 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: Yes! I woke up at 5:30 to a really painful contraction, and my first thought was "Oh shit, no I'm not ready!" That was the only one though. Haha!
persimmon / 1364 posts
@Oliviapope: I've had the membrane sweep twice and it didn't hurt. It was just uncomfortable pressure for like 15 seconds. Like a 1 on a 1-10 pain scale. Afterwards there was some light spotting (use a panty liner), and very mild cramping for about 24 hours.

@Meowkers: Good to hear - thank you! I think the fear of the unknown is what freaks me out the most!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
My membrane sweep was painful! Nothing compared to contractions but it hurt. It was worth it though because it made labor start!
