@highwire: Popping in quick after some busy days - I saw your other post about your appetite and wanted to mention that it might be a side effect of the zoloft. I was on it for a while several years ago and I was a little jittery and had no appetite (and lost weight) when I started it.

We go back and forth with a few good nights/days and then a fussy one. She's gone several nights (not in a row) sleeping 10:30/11:00 - 3 AM. I'm bursting by that point though so I'm glad she doesn't go longer actually. We started giving an ounce or so of pumped milk with her vitamin D liquid after her bedtime feed and I think that is helping.

Hope everyone has some good days/nights this coming week! I am a little worried about the holidays coming up and visiting family totally throwing off everything. We'll be with DHs family for about a week and won't have the swing - I see a lot more baby holding in our future!

@lindseykaye: ah thanks for sharing your experience! my doc alao suggested not taking all my different vitamins and pills and supplements at once because that might be upsetting my stomach also

@SLR: haha - have to laugh - we totally had the "asking vs just knowing" conversation. I think that's a pretty common issue!

@travelgirl1: LO smiles at me right when she wakes up or when she is fed and clean. its usually accompanied by very excited kicks and coos! it absolutely melts my heart. dh and i had a tiff the other day too about his messiness and me having to pick up after him all the time. i think i'm also just jealous that he has so much freedom and i don't because L will NOT take the bottle. like @SLR: we also had the asking v. knowing convo during that fight too! haha.

@scg00387: how did you know your flanges were too small?

LO is 11lbs 5 oz and 23 inches long! she had her checkup and also got her 2-month shots. she cried a bit but she was screaming like she's never screamed before later on that day...her thigh was all swollen and hot where she got the shots. we gave her tylenol and a warm bath, massaging her leg to get the swelling down and then she was fine. poor thing!

@JessLC: I'm glad your little one is feeling better after the shots. My little guy has his 2 month appointment next week and is getting some vaccinations. I'm not looking forward to it at all. My husband can't go with because he has to work.

@highwire: oh yeah I was on Zoloft years ago and I was able to lose at least 15 lbs on it because of lack of appetite. I hope it helps you with everything

LO is getting to the point that she needs to be held 99% of the time. It's exhausting and I'm getting almost no sleep since DH would rather do anything instead of holding. Any advice?

Eta: I mean like all the time. Awake. Sleeping. Eating. Must be held.

@ChelseaRose: are you going to try to split up the shots? I didnt realize that she was going to get 3 that day so I hadn't prepared at all for that conversation with the doctor. So o just ended up having her get all 3 plus the rotavirus vaccine which is an oral one. She was only 7 weeks when she got them but the doctor said she would rather give them now than have us come back and be exposed to all these sick kids...there was a recent flu outbreak I'm the neighborhood.

@scg00387: thanks for the link! I actually think the standard size fits me ok., looking at these pictures.

@highwire: are you swaddling her for naps and night time? That's the only way A will go down. She wants to be held all the time too so we have to trick her into thinking she is. Also, try putting the sheet for wherever she sleeps down your top for a few hours so it smells of you - my sister swore by this. Or, put a hot water bottle in her bed and take it out just before you put her in so she's nor going straight from your warm arms into somewhere cold.

We've mastered putting her down on a night - touch wood - but during the day she's still an arms only baby.

I left Ariela for the first time today, and left DH with enough milk to last till she was 21, lol. Anyway she hardly touched any of it and went on a bit of a bottle strike but she was good as gold foe her daddy and I think he had a glimpse into my world, which was nice. Had my 6 week doctors appointment and have the green light for sex and exercise. I doubt I'll have time for either, lol.

@kml636: @travelgirl1: yep we are swaddling for sleeping times.

Had another baby shower today at DHs office and got a ton of great, great stuff....like a Moby and a sleep n play lounger thing that will hopefully mimic being held better than our bassinet at this point which I think is too big for her to feel secure right now...

  20. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@highwire: Do you have a pack and play with the vibrating bassinet? My sister swore by this...she jokes that this and a baby bjorn saved their marriage. My sister gave us all of her old stuff, so we are using it now, but not in the pack and play. We have a bassinet that we couldn't get her to sleep in; we also thought it wasn't 'cozy' enough for her. So we took the P&P bassinet insert, which is a softer material and more formed to her size, and found that it fits perfectly in the basket part of the bassinet. So, this is where we had her sleeping and it has worked out really well for us. We're now trying to transition to the crib though.

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@SLR: this sleep and play thing has a vibrating component. I attempted to set it up while LO was in the ktan but she was not having it...so I'm waiting until DH gets home so he can set it up.

Man, oh man...what a craptastic night we had last night. We ran errands yesterday afternoon and Em slept a good part of the day. I wasn't sure if this would make a difference in how she would do in the night. We put her down at 8pm and she woke up crying @ 10. When I picked her up, I had noticed that she spit up in her bassinet - and it stunk REALLY bad. So, figured we might as well try to move to the crib. I took down the bumpers (which was a bummer, they are sooo cute!) and put her in there. After rocking her in our arms for a while each time, she went down for 1-2 hour increments before she would start screaming. I kept trying to feed her, but it was to the point that I had hardly any milk left in me. And, I'm not even sure if she was hungry, or just colicky. Our feedings were 8pm, 10pm, 12am, 2am, 4am, 6:30am. It had to be our worst night so far.

DH is going to a b-ball game tonight - leaving in about 20 mins and will be gone past midnight. So, I'm on my own tonight and REALLY hoping that it's not a repeat of yesterday. Mama needs some zzz's.

  23. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@SLR: ack! Yeah LO definitely sleeps worse at night if she naps too much during the day. Hope your night goes well tonight!

  24. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@SLR: that is rough. It's so hard,
Nap too long and they can't sleep at night, yet if they don't nap enough they can't sleep either. We have luck with her in the crib with a white noise machine and miracle blanket.

Yesterday she wouldn't nap and she wouldn't sleep well last night. Today I got her to go down in three 2 hour increments so I hope she does better tonight. I wake her after two hours in the day time.

  25. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@SLR: we had the same napping too much issue last night too! she napped pretty much all day and woke up much more often at night than she has in a long time. so we tried to keep her awake today and get a good mix of nap and awake today.

i'm about to leave for a pilates class (yay! first since i was 15 weeks pregs) and going to leave her with my mom and a bottle. mom is going to try to give her the bottle...fingers crossed she will take it since i am out of the house!

@SLR: ackkk!! hope you both get better sleep tonight!!

A was like that all day yesterday. It was my first full day alone. Our morning started off well with our first nursing session and nap. Then after that-- his dipe/sleep/nursing cycle was all jumbled up and we were pretty much up all day. I think his longest sleep was 45 min or an hour... :T...

thankfully it made for a good night's sleep. He went down for the night at midnight, slept til 530, then went back down at 630 til 930.. we nursed, then he went back down for am nap til 1145. And today (my second full day) he's been an absolute angel!

Nursing every three hours, napping mostly in between, or playing by himself!

We also used the moby for the first time and he got in a good 2.5 hour nap.

I got a shower in! And put my face on! and ate lunch AT lunch time!

Now he's sleeping in the bouncer (first time he's really used it!)... so overall on the mama and baby gear front - it's been an amazing day!

do you guys have issues burping? A doesn't burp all the time after feeding... we haven't had too many spit up issues, but I'm still trying to figure out his burping/gas discomforts...

  27. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@mrsjyw: Wow! What an awesome sounding day

Not sure about the gas stuff....C burps and farts constantly lol

  28. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@mrsjyw: It can take a while for me to get a burp out and I'm not always successful. I try really hard though b/c if I don't, she's likely to spit up (and her spits can be pretty big). I often have to move her in a couple different positions and sometimes walk around a bit to get a burp out. We've used gas drops a few times and they seem to calm her down instantly, but it doesn't last long at all. If he's not fussing or spitting up and doesn't seem uncomfortable, I'd think he's okay?

What time do all your babies go down for the night?

A can stay down for a good few hours now but takes AGES to actually go down. We've been trying since about nine and it's almost twelve now..... I've got DH giving her a bottle - which she's hating - to give my poor boobs a break. Unfortunately I'd just pumped when she woke up wanting feeding. Epic fail for timing. She'll eat, be burped, fall asleep on our shoulder then when we lie her down to velcro her swaddle, her eyes will pop open and she'll probably grin and it starts all over again, lol. I knew she'd be like this when I was pregnant, she was always partying at this time of night.

@highwire: Good stuff, here's to a great night's sleep for you!

  33. LemonLong

    pear / 1698 posts

@travelgirl1: we put her down around 10-10:30. Most times she's awake. She'll lay there with her eyes open and maybe lift her legs up in the swaddle, bob her head around if she dropped her paci, and make lots of grunts and squeaks. Eventually, I can see her yawn on the video monitor and soon after, she's asleep.

  34. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@travelgirl1: I've bee trying to follow moms on call schedule where you put them down at 930 and they sleep until 2. I have no idea why/how this works but it does! The other day we had a. Off day and she fussed from 9 - 1130.

  35. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@travelgirl1: it differs so much. A few nights ago I put her in her crib at 8 expecting her to wake up a few hours later.. And she slept until 3am. Last night we did bath and nursing starting at 8 and she ended up alternating between eating and crying for the next 3 hours. But when I finally got her down at 11 she slept until now (5am).

  36. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

She slept in her bouncy seat/RnP all night!!! She woke up a little more frequently (12, 3, 530, 830) but I don't even care because I feel so much more rested when she isn't sleeping in my arms all night where I worry about suffocating her the whole time.

In other news, breastfeeding is absolutely going better. Her latch is stronger and she's staying on so much better. We are still supplementing with formula and we may always have to but oh well. She still nurses, we bond, she gets breastmilk, etc. And in a pinch, someone can give her a bottle of fomula and I can get a longer break to sleep or have time to myself. And of course pumping is available too if I want.

Are you all back in your wedding rings if you swelled out of them during pregnancy? I try to fit them on every day but still not there yet at three weeks pp.

  39. Mrs. Tricycle

@highwire: LO sleeps in a rock and play every night. It uses batteries?? I haven't discovered that function yet...

@travelgirl1: My nighttime routine is to nurse, diaper chsnge, swaddle, and then give a small bottle to "top him off" and get in our drinking from a bottle practice. Have you read about the 5s? If I swaddle him and then jiggle him like they show in YouTube videos he's out pretty quickly.

@SLR: I just finished reading the happiest baby book (during a colicky night) - I too struggle with getting good burps - the author has a technique where you hold then baby in a sitting position (one hand under their butt and the other under their chin) and lift them up in the air 5-10 time. Then you support their head in a sitting postion and burp them - works like a charm - I always get a burp this way when I never did before.

We usually aim for an 11:00 PM bedtime.

@highwire: so good to hear! yayyy C! yayy mommy!

Wedding rings are back on! But weight is standing still! I had no major drop in weight (only 14 lb of 38 total).... and today is 4 weeks pp.... but I really don't care at this point. I'll focus on working out afer my 6 week pp appt!

Of course, today A is fussy all day and will only quiet down while being held or nursing... DH is here today though...
