@ChelseaRose: Mine is nursing anywhere from 8-13 times a day. She is pretty inconsistent. On average, I'd say around 10 times - but over the past few days she seems to be spacing them out more and sleeping a little longer at night.

@clery: same here... the past few days A has been having short daytime naps... and going down fussy at night... he has been sleep three or four hr streches at night tho...

@chelsearose: A feeds every 3-4 hrs at night and every 2.5 during the day...probably 8x-10x total? I don't keep track every day as long as we are nursing and there isn't a change in his dipes! Sounds like you guys are ok and healthy!!

We bathed LO w Cetaphil last night and will wash his face everyday... the baby acne has gotten progressively worse in the last week.

My mom is watching A for us today so we can run errands and get xmas shopping done!

@ChelseaRose: my LO just turned 7 weeks yesterday and is about 8 lbs. she feeds between 6-8 times a day. It looks like her average session is 23 minutes long. She sleeps about six hours a night and goes about 7 hours in that time without nursing.

C eats 6-7x a day. I'm supposed to be getting breast stimulation (either nursing or pumping) 8-12x a day but she's never that hungry and I take the sleep option instead of getting up to pump at night.

Are you LOs noisy sleepers? I know we are supposed to sleep in same room as baby right now but her grunts and squeals are so noisy!

@highwire: I put Lily in her own room (next to ours) because I would wake up and stare at her all night and DH stays up late watching tv and shd can't sleep well. I also didnt want her ro become reliant on sleeping in the rock and play. I do have the angel care monitor which measures her breathing, if not for that I would not do it.

@LemonLong: That's exactly what he did last night with sleep! He nursed at 9 (start of session), was asleep by 10, then woke up at 4 am to nurse. He went back to sleep until almost 8 am. Was your little one premature or just tiny?

  7. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@highwire: We had W start sleeping in his crib around two weeks because of that. I needed to be sleeping when he did, but I couldn't sleep through his loud noises. I never thought I would transition him so early, but it has worked for us. He even naps in his crib too.

  8. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@ChelseaRose: mine has between 8-10 nursing sessions per day and between 1.5-2 hours per day. It used to be between 2 and 2.5 hours but I think she is just getting more efficient.

LO slept from 11 to 7 last night! So excited. I woke up at 6 because my boobs were engorged and my body just naturally wakes up periodically during the night now. I hope she keeps up this trend. Once she went past 11lbs, she has been sleeping in 6+ hour stretches.

@highwire: we've had LO in the crib since she was like 5 days old. I don't think there's anything that says you're supposed to sleep in the same room as baby. Some people just prefer it for their own piece of mind. Sometimes she'll end up next to me in the rock and play for part of the night but we both sleep better when she's in the crib. I figure we won't have to deal with a transition later.

  10. LemonLong

    pear / 1698 posts

@ChelseaRose: I was induced at 38 weeks because she had stopped growing. She was 4 lbs 11 oz when we brought her home from the hospital!

@highwire: I had my LO in her crib from day one. The first three weeks I slept on the floor of the nursery! Once she cut out her night feeding, I moved back to our bedroom. We have a video monitor so I just check on her that way.

@highwire: we also have our LO in the crib since the beginning as well. mostly because im kind of scarred from my brother cosleeping with my mom till he was in middle school (NO JOKE) and never wanted to cosleep (even in the same room) with my LO. but its good that LO is a good sleeper so she took to the crib well.

@LemonLong: i also slept on the nursery floor but just the first night! i knew if i kept doing it i'd never get any sleep cuz i'd wake up at every little sound she made. so i had to stop for my own sanity.

@ChelseaRose: LO eats abt 7 times a day. i think as long as your LO is gaining weight and seems satisfied 6 is fine!

@MamaMoose: my LO fusses when she's pooping or gassy. usually its only a couple min long, but sometimes it lasts like 10 min! i started giving her gas drops esp at night time when shes the fussiest and that's been helping. i kind of think it has to do with what i'm eating so i've been trying to watch what i eat more.

what do you guys do during your LO's awake times? i feel like LO is still young to focus on toys so right now i've just been doing tummy time and just holding her since i don't know what else to do! she seems content but i just don't know if i'm stimulating her enough.

DH just installed the monitor so we are going to try putting her in the crib! I hope this goes well. The last several days she has slept all night in my arms and I really don't want to co sleep whatsoever.

@kodybear: Sometimes we read books, listen to music, dance around the house, talk to him about whatever.

  15. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@kodybear: Mine doesn't care anything about toys. I put her in one of those vibrating seat things the other day and she was sort of interested in looking at the stuffed flowers that dangled from the bar above. I think it was the dark/light contrast that got her attention. She batted at it a few times and was done....after five minutes she was crying to get out. I try to "talk" to her and walk around the house some, but she ultimately falls asleep.

I always worry that maybe she isn't awake enough. Her life is still pretty much a cycle of changing diaper, nursing (which she only does for about 10 minutes at a time), and then falling back asleep. She really is never awake for more than an hour - and at least part of this usually involves dozing off a bit in my arms.

How long do your LO's stay awake at a time during the day? She is usually up 30-60 minutes and then asleep for 1.5 - 2 hours. I'm hoping this is normal???

Her cord is STILL on (I swear that thing is never coming off), so we haven't done a lot of tummy time on the floor. She does spend a lot of time on her tummy while on my chest or stomach and seems to like it. But again...she usually ends up asleep.

@JessLC: that is SO exciting! How old is your LO? Mine is about 9 lbs and sleeping 5 hours straight at night ... Sometimes!

  18. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@SLR: I mostly just talk to M when she's awake. I sing songs to her and tell her what we are doing. I talk to her about our family and friends. Just mindless stuff. She sort of alternates where after one nursing session she'll be awake for a long time, and them after the next session she'll pass out immediately and sleep for 3 hours straight until I wake her up to eat again.

  19. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@kml636: she is 7 weeks old! I can't believe how "old" she is...5 hours is great too...anything longer than 3-4 is reason to celebrate.

Hey ladies! I hope you've all had a fabulous weekend!

@SLR: A stays awake for between one and two hours at a time... Any more than that and she gets a bit grouchy.

@highwire: I have her in a moses basket right next to my side of the bed, she is noisy but I love being able to check on her through the nught and get to her quickly if she cries.

This Baby Ktan carrier is such a lifesaver. LO was being so fussy and I popped her in here and she fell asleep immediately.

She is a mega sleeper (2.5 weeks old). I have to wake her for feedings during the day and she takes a 5-6 hour stretch at night. But she's still getting half of her food from formula and that takes longer to digest so that is probably why she is so sleepy. Plus, they just need a lot of sleep at this point.

DH and I both have struggled a bit with how much touching and holding and caressing is involved with a baby. Neither of us are very touchy feely people so it is a huge change. But I just read an article that talked about how touching is vitally important for development so I'm feeling better about it. DH is still coming around lol. But he is willing to basically do all housework, cooking, and errands in exchange for me holding baby so it works.

@kodybear: we play with her quite a lot, we put her in her play gym then move toys in front of her face for her to track with her eyes, and she loves it! She smiles a lot during playtime. She has a glow worm too and I think that's her favourite. We read to her sometimes too, although she's way too young for that.

@kodybear: usually just talking and tickling his feet and plaay w his hands... lots of tummy time on me or daddy and we've started using his playmat too...

@highwire: pulled out my moby and started practicing... need to start usibg it regularly! A loves being held...

Today was a lot of fun! Pumped enough to get in a four hour day date of xmas shopping and errands w dh while my mom babysat... he's just gone down fir the night... he's been sleeping well at night... and was an angel today!!

Tomo will br my first full day alone w baby. I've been lucky enough to have dh and my mom... hoping the day goes well...

Bought the baby app to start trying to figure out and set A's schedule in the coming wks (dh goes back ft to work after the new yr) and id like for A and I to be in sync and 'regular'...

I am super jealous of all your sleeping babies! I'm pretty sure LO meets the definition of a colicky baby - he had a great cry from from 7:30 PM until 1:00 AM. He also prefers to sleep on me, and only on me. I didn't get him in the Rock and Play until 4:45 this morning, so I'm doing today on about 3 hours of sleep - he'd better take a long nap! On the positive side, all that fussing gave me time to read Happiest Baby on the Block and perfect my 5s techniques.

Do any of your babies have signs of colic?

I asked this question about playing with your newborn on a different thread - somebody sent me this website - it's got great ideas for how to play with a one-month old

@Mrs. Tricycle: bless you, did he really cry all that time? Did he get any sleep between? A isn't colicky but did have a phase of only sleeping on me, which we broke by swaddling her. Are you getting much sleep yourself?

How are all you ladies getting on with DH? We were snapping a bit at each other last week so we had a chat about what we could do to help each other more and it really helped. He was frustrated things weren't tidier, so I explained how you can't tidy up after yourself when you're doing everything one handed but, if he held A for a bit, I would happily take my turn tidying. He didn't realise how little time I get to do anything for myself but I said I really needed him to come home from work and ask if there was anything I needed or to take A so I can shower, get a drink etc, instead of instantly checking his email etc. Anyway it was super helpful.

@Mrs. Tricycle: C is spending most of her time sleeping on someone (preferably me). She slept like shit last night and wanted to nurse constantly and my boobs are so raw now.

DH and I both have a stomach virus or something. Blech. He still went to work and my mom is on the way over to help me thank God.

@Mrs. Tricycle: oh no! Hope u get in a nap today!

    @highwire: get well soon!

@travelgirl1: dh has been home w me for the last month and has been a huge support. We of course butt heads in the midst if exhaustion... and we had a fight last week over a misunderstanding but I think all that is normal with raising a nb. Seeing him as a dad has grown my love for him in an indescribable way!

A Has been making it pretty easy on me today.. nursed this am, napped for 2 hrs...nursed again, had three dirty dipes within 1.5 hrs (hate that!), was up for a cpl hours and now he's sleeping again...with few wakeup scares...

Dh should be homee by 6...

@mrsjyw: sounds like a good day apart from the diapers : )

A has greeted me with beaming smiles when I come to hey her after her nap twice today - such a lovely moment when your baby smiles at you. Anyone else's baby smiling yet?

So disappointed, we used some of my frozen breast milk this weekend and looks like I have an excess lipase issue. My husband smelled it and was gagging. My LO still drank it though, so I guess that's good. My lactation consultant said she'd never heard of having excess lipase so she wasn't much help.

In more exciting news, my LO was up to 8 lbs 5 oz at weighing today. She's 7 weeks old. According to my growth chart app that puts her in the 8th percentile! It's a big jump from where she was at! We also moved to size 1 diapers yesterday, it seemed like just overnight her NB ones stopped fitting!

@Mrs. Tricycle yikes! that sounds wretched, hope he gets sleepier soon!

    @highwire feel better!

@travelgirl1 we've definitely had a few tiffs - we are both so over tired and unfortunately he has a ton of stress at work and our move has added on top of that. but we are both pretty good at recognizing "silly" fights and apologizing.

@slr we try to keep his max awake time to 1 hour - but he definitely fights that during the day!

@kodybear we read books, tummy time, and look out the window.. lots of chatter! He loves to pull on things too so we busted out the activity gym yesterday and he likes gripping the dangling toys.

after several great nights in the hotel & new house, he has decided he doesn't want to sleep today. like at all, since 7 am stressing me out!!

for anyone else who said they were thinking about getting bigger flanges.. they are so much more comfortable for me! definitely worth the $15

Baby girl will NOT nap today! Every 20 mins she's up screaming. I'm starting to think she has reflux because she is spitting up constantly all of a sudden.

@highwire: how do you get your LO comfortable in the baby ktan? I'm having trouble keeping Lily "visible and kissable". Went on a short walk with her in there today and my back is killing me.

  38. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@kml636: good question. I mostly just sit with her in it or do short spurts around the house. I can't figure out how to keep her upright in it. She seems to always slip down and wind up basically laying on her back in it. Need more practice for sure. I can see how your back would hurt walking around with it

Saw my doctor today for possible PPD (he has been out of town). he said I don't seem to be having anything that is out of the ordinary, but that the Zoloft should help me cope. He also prescribed me a special medicine that should increase my milk supply since I still don't make enough to get her off the formula. It isn't FDA approved, but its common in Canada.

@travelgirl1: DH & I had a chat a week or so back since we haven't seen eye to eye on a few things. I feel like he could have been doing a bit more to help me out and he feels like he has been doing everything he could (even throwing out the "if I could grow boobs and feed her" card...). He says that he's glad to do whatever; I just need to ask. And my thought is, I shouldn't have to ASK, he should offer. So yeah....some miscommunication here too.

@highwire: Hope the medicine works well for your supply. Sounds promising?!!

@kml636: Hope tonight goes better than today has. We have our 1m appt on Thursday and hope to talk more to the doc about possible reflux. It's weird, some days are okay and others are terrible. Yesterday she had a projectile spit up out of her nose. She looks so miserable after...

Today was the first day of vaca for DH. It is going to be soooo nice to have him home for the next three weeks. We ran a few errands today until Em started getting fussy b/c it was time to eat. With him home, I also hope to start getting some time to work out a bit. It will just be DVD's at home, but hey...it's a start. I hope that Jillian Michaels will be my new BFF for the next few weeks and start whippin' me into shape. Lord knows I need it.
