@MamaMoose: thanks. I've never taken an anti depressant before but I hope it will help. I'm not ready to give up on breastfeeding yet. Think I will try for a month and then reassess. I also think I'm just having trouble adjusting in general, so even if we switched to formula, it wouldn't resolve my issues ( and I'd be adding tremendous guilt about stopping breastfeeding on top of things which might just make me feel even worse)

@MamaMoose: my LO does this sometimes, i think it is normal. in the Baby 411 book i have, they mention to imagine how hard it would be for us to poop lying down and that some struggling is normal.
@highwire: that was my thought about the formula - it wouldn't be a solution to how i was feeling and it might even be more work than bf-ing. the adjustment was really hard on me too. to be honest, i am still adjusting at 7 weeks. there are good days and bad days. i had two good days this week, and a couple bad...one ok day. i swear it gets better, but i'm really not 100% back to myself yet. those first 3 weeks were horrendous. it gets a tiny bit easier every week...hang in there.

@SLR: he is spitting up more. The issue is he takes forever to burp but I'm trying my best to be deligent about it. I also hesitate burping during night feedings because he wakes up and has trouble going back to sleep.
@highwire: I'm glad that you are taking something to help you. Hang in there!

@clery: I find that if I lay her on her tummy on my chest after night feedings I can get out a good burp without waking her.

@highwire: Did your DH end up taking a day off? Did it help?
Does anyone do the laying down nursing on your side? How do you do it? I tried earlier but couldn't get it right....

@travelgirl1: yeah, it was nice to have him home for a surprise day.

@travelgirl1: I tried it before, but haven't done it in a while. I could never get a good latch that way and always ended up sore after nursing. We still have latch issues so I usually only nurse in very boring positions with a pillow.

@highwire: I'm doing pretty well. I had a productive morning while the baby napped in his crib. I made a dessert for a holiday party that we are going to tomorrow, finished a load of laundry, and wrapped a present for a gift exchange.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@travelgirl1: i have done it twice. once i was contorted so uncomfortably, i was obviously doing it wrong...the next time was better but still so awkward and unnatural. i think i read somewhere that its easier to do it once the baby is older and can control their movements better? not sure. i pump when i get up at night, so doing side lying position to get more rest wouldn't help me anyway.

@travelgirl1: I want to But it intimidates me. He's been sleeping great while I have not - so in afraid I'd pass out on top of him!
Best baby sleep last night / from 9 to 1 and 145 to 7! Unfortunately I was up way more for post surgery mess and the bathroom. One more hotel night and 6 hour car ride and well finally be in our house!
Ordered bigger pump flanges off amazon and am interested to see how they feel or if they affect how much I can produce.
0-3 month stuff I bought last week is all of a sudden not crazy big! Ack growth spurt!

Mentally doing well - sleepy, but got in some good naps. LO is fussy almost all the time, but discovered he naps well lying on my chest or in the Ergo. Feeling guilty that he has yet to sleep in his crib, but hoping that we haven't screwed him up too badly yet. I'm still sleeping on the couch with him in the Rock and play, but going to try moving to our bedroom tonight. We'll see if that works.....
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@travelgirl1: Yep I've tried it a few times, kinda tricky to get him latched on quickly, but once he's on... it's really nice to be lying down...
@scg00387: i might need to try bigger flanges too~... and LO is I think near or above the 9 lbs mark and barely fits his nb clothes... so we have him in 0-3 month/3month clothes too!
yesterday LO was AMAZING. he woke up for his am nursing session, played for a lil while, napped 3 hours, nursed again, went down easily, etc. all day and night... woke up at 3am for a feeding and then again at 7am...
today he's been fussy all day... cluster feeding/fussy/short 30 min naps... i'm exhausted. hope he get some sleep tonight.
ahhhh here he is crying again~

Feeling great after another visit from my mom today. She played with baby and did a bunch of housework. We had such a tumultuous relationship while I was pregnant and I am so glad things are better now. Her help has been so needed.
Mostly pumping has been going well. She was really fussy earlier and I was able to calm LO with a long nursing session which made me feel great. Think we might have found a good combination for our family of mostly pumping, occasionally nursing, and continuing to supplement as needed.

@mrsjyw: I ordered mine off amazon ! Going to try them next week. Hope tonight is a good one after a rough day!
@highwire that's awesome! My moms comin tonight for a week and I can't wait. Glad your relationship has gotten better with yours

@highwire: so glad pumping is going well!
@scg00387: I had to order those also, they just came today and I'm excited to try them out!
Going to a friends open house tonight with baby... Looking forward to having a glass of wine (pumped two bottles just in case). And I got my wedding rings on again, woot!

We had a good night last night. Em nursed at 10pm and had a major spit up. I thought for sure she'd be up by midnight because she hadn't kept anything down. I ended up getting her down around 11:20 and she slept til 3am. That was our longest stretch so far. I fed her at 3 and got her back down around 3:45, but then had to pump because I felt like one side was about to explode. So, back in bed around 4am and go figure....I couldn't sleep. Too bad because she had another 3 hour stretch then.
Took her to the mall for the first time today. Hope it wasn't a stupid idea because of germs, but we weren't there long and I kept her covered when we were in congested areas. I just HAD to finish Christmas shopping. We only went to 4 stores, but I was tempted to check out the Nordstrom lounge just out of curiousity, should I need it for nursing in the future.
It's such a relief...hubby is off until the New Year! It will be soooo nice to have an extra set of hands and feel like I can get caught up on some things. I feel like my house is such a pig sty right now...

@kml636: Have fun...enjoy the vino! My rings fit some days, other days not so much...
@scg00387: Hope the move goes smoothly for you.
@highwire: That's great that things are better w/ your mom and that you are finding a pumping/nursing system that is working well for you.

@ChelseaRose: we still have latch issues too so I'm still using the shield... I'd love to try wean her off it but not sure how.
@Mrs. Tricycle: I let A nap on my chest all the time, I love it.
@mrsjyw: Aw hope you get some sleep tonight, or at least a nap
beforehand.
@highwire: That sounds really positive! So glad you've had a better day.
@kml636: Ooooh enjoy your wine! And awesome on the wedding rings!
@SLR: we've been to the mall a few times and I get super paranoid about germs. It seems anytime I park her stroller somewhere someone sneezes next to it,ew.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Do you ask people to wash their hands or use alcohol gel before holding baby? Mostly I do, but when we visit England next year I know I'll get laughed at for it. And we have 9 nieces and nephews to breathe germs over her, I think I'm super paranoid.
clementine / 824 posts
@travelgirl1: I haven't had to yet. So far, everyone that has held her automatically said that they would go wash their hands first. But I totally will at Christmas Eve with all of DH's family. I don't really care if they think I'm too paranoid.

@travelgirl1: did it a couple of times early on in desperation to get some sleep. It was quite uncomfortable and have not tried it for a month now. But I wonder since he is latching on better now whether it would make a difference.
@mrsjyw: I hope today goes better for you. Schedules and predictability definitely goes out of the window with newborns which can be quite frustrating.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@travelgirl1: ppl have done it on their own so far but I have no problem asking if they forget to beforehand
Ty for ur support, echoing @highwire, I love our lil community! I did get better sleep at night... but the cat naps, cluster feeding, fussiness lasted all day until 1230am when he went down for the night...he didnt have a dirty dipe since am time n then rt before he went down for the night so I think he might have been constipated most of the day.
Crossing my fingers today goes btr...
Ps does anyone hav any baby acne issues?. A's started showing up late last wk.and now it's.all.over both cheeks and.forehead.. sometimes it's red and sometimes not... I've put breastmik on it and waiting to see how long it lasts... trying not to irritate it durng nursing etc... I've read its common but feel bad for hin that it might be itchy and bohersome...

@travelgirl1: I have a few times. A little awkward, I just tell them I ask everyone.

Any ideas for something fun we can do together as a family today? LO is only 2.5 weeks so I'm not sure what we can do that's fun, out of the house, but away from crowds.
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@highwire: are there outdoor light displays that you could walk through?
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@mrsjyw: baby acne started in the last few days - he's got a couple little whiteheads on his chin and more on his forehead. Poor guy!
clementine / 824 posts
@mrsjyw: @Mrs. Tricycle: Baby acne here too. It started 2-3 days ago on her forehead and she now has some on her cheek and chin too. I read that it can last a few months. The forehead does seems to be drying up maybe a bit, so perhaps it will clear up soon.

Doing relatively ok. Sometimes I'm concerned that he is not napping enough during the day especially when we are alone for the day. He seems to nap wonderfully when we are at my parents.
He has been fussier being put down for the night. Lately my hubby has him cry for 5 minutes before picking him up partly because we are both exhausted by that time. Those five minutes break my heart. I guess this will prepare me for down the road when we do sleep training full on.
clementine / 824 posts
@clery: Do you ever find that he puts himself to sleep in the five minutes of crying? We do that too from time to time and she has yet to calm herself down in those few minutes. We always pick her back up. But it might help tire them out some?
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@mrsjyw: Lily also has baby acne, started at about two weeks and patches clear up and then others break out!
olive / 61 posts
@mrsjyw: LO has white heads but not that severe. He has had them since birth but luckily its just a couple at a time.
@SLR: It does tire himself down, but it is still difficult to hear. I think each night that we do it, the crying gets longer. sigh. I just end up going to the other room
Has anybody started cloth diapering yet? LO is 6 weeks this Tuesday and surprisingly my hubby is interested in starting... I am still a little hesitant. I want to wait until the new year start the transition to cloth.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@clery: I have done cloth a few times on days I knew I would be home. Washed them for the first time, totally not a big deal, I am so relieved!

Feeling lots better about breastfeeding now that I have the option of either pumping or nursing at each feeding. Yesterday I mostly pumped, today I mostly nursed. Trying my hardest to just have a good attitude in general and lower my stress level. Having trouble with ny appetite (I have none) so I bought a big smoothie today to get in some nutrients. And I'm also trying to make a habit of just enjoying my daughter, for Gods sake no need to be stressed out all the time
My in laws will be back for Xmas this weekend. I talked to DH about to issues we had last time with the alcohol use and we agreed that .no one is allowed to be on solo baby duty if they have been drinking. DH is going to make our wishes clear to his parents.
clementine / 824 posts
@highwire: Glad you are feeling better about everything and hope you get your appetite back! Although I secretly wish I didn't have an appetite right about now...your post gave a taste for a smoothie and I certainly could stand to lose a few lbs!! Hope your in-laws are understanding of your wishes. They should be...it's perfectly understandable. And yes, definitely soak up those baby cuddles and enjoy her.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@highwire: glad thing are going better and that you were able to talk to DH. In also jealous of not having an appetite, I feel hungry every few hours ! ( just like a baby LOL)
persimmon / 1161 posts
How many times in a day are your babies nursing or taking a bottle? For the past two days I think we've only nursed (or bottle fed) about six times per day. For example, i nursed him around 3am, 8am, noon, 3pm, bottle of 4 oz of breast milk around 6:30pm, and I just finished nursing him at 9:30pm. I'm wondering if that's strange or not enough? We are going through at least a dozen diapers in a day, including a few big poops and a few small ones. He doesn't seem to be acting weird or more hungry. He's a big baby (over 12 pounds at six weeks old), so maybe he's just more efficient and staying full longer?
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@ChelseaRose: I have the goal of seven times (every 3 hours during the day and every 4 - 4.5 hours at night), sometimes more if she is hungry.
