My wedding rings are back on too! Tight though. I got on the treadmill walking on an incline for 20 mins today. Felt really good! Two more weeks until I'm cleared for real workouts.

Just got the phone call to say Ariela has an ultrasound on her hips on friday. I know there are so many worse things in this world than hip dysplasia but I feel so upset for her. I need to man up and be the mum but I'm really not looking forward to it

@kml636: nice! I need to get walks going... epi stitches started hurting of no where today :T

@travelgirl1: thinking of u and A...hope all goes well at the appt.

Just scheduled a pedi appt for tom am. A's 'baby acne' has spread to his neck and chest... so were doing our due diligence to make sure it's not dermatitis...

    @mrsjyw: @highwire: @kml636: thanks guys!

We just started treating A and me for thrush. We had to dab the purple medicine on my nipple and it's stained her mouth, bless her - she looks like she's been chewing in blackberries and pens!

@travelgirl1: I hope it helps clear up the thrush! How did you find out that you two have it? I think I missed our post about that.

@ChelseaRose: thank you! At her one month appointment they saw white spots in her mouth. They asked if I wanted to treat it since it doesn't usually cause baby any discomfort but in the mum it can. I've had the stuff for 2 weeks but not used it because if staining to her mouth but took the plunge so it's done snd dusted for Christmas.

@travelgirl1: oh no. i hope it gets better soon! did your boobs really hurt too, or was it just LO's mouth that showed signs of thrush?

@mrsjyw: maybe its almost healed? my stitches pulled and were a little uncomfy for a day and then they fell out, and it felt mostly back to normal!

so i went to get a massage yesterday because i've been having terrible back pain from lifting LO up and down all the time (clearly i'm doing it incorrectly), and i think laying on my boobs gave me a clogged duct! will be warm compressing and massaging all day today. i hope it goes away by itself and doesn't turn into mastitis.

@JessLC: yeah I had shooting pain in my boobs too but just thought it was part of the normal aches and pains of breastfeeding until the doctor connected the dots.

Look after that clogged duct, hope it clears soon!

Currently breastfeeding in the backseat of my car...this is weird lol

Anyone having issues like hemorrhoids? I didn't get any during childbirth, but am struggling with them now I think :'(

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts

@JessLC: oh i hope so! i hope the clogged duct goes away soon! i have a prenatal massage scheduled for tomorrow, so i'll be extra conscious!!

@highwire: i have... i bled a couple of days ago... not painful, but freaked out when i saw blood. my mom was over and knew about it, so she calmed me down. it's gone now (i think?)

just got back from the pedi -- it is just baby acne, and not allergies or another skin issue... he told us to use hydro cortisone 2x daily and keep doing our daily face washes with cetaphil... should be healed in a few days... And he now weighs 9lbs.8oz! Gained over a lb in 15 days! :)))

ended up co-sleeping last night on the couch because he was being so fussy... finally went down at 1am... and woke up at 5am and 9am respectively for feedings...

@mrsjyw: my left boob felt funny right afterwards, like a large ping pong shaped lump on the top of my boob. i didn't realy notice it last night, but this morning it was back and it didn't go away with pumping. it wasn't painful yet, so i think i caught it early - and i did a warm compress and then nursed and massaged it firmly. i think it did the trick. the lump is gone and its just a little sore now. phew! i get so paranoid with things that might derail breastfeeding. L has baby acne too...the spots are more red after she feeds, but they are only on her face and not her body, so i figure its just acne....hope you have a better night tonight!

@kml636: So we had our 1 month appointment today and reviewed the reflux issues again. The doctor still recommends leaving it alone (no medication) unless she either seems really uncomfortable/fussy or isn't gaining weight. Weight isn't a concern at all and I can't really tell how much pain she is in from it (not sure how you can tell exactly?). She still recommends keeping her upright after eating and thinks that it should improve over time (which could be as long as a year). She didn't seem concerned that she still spits up 1-2 hours after eating or that it smells really rancid. As far as the spit up through the nose, she said it's common and that we can use Little Noses saline spray if we want to break up any spit up that is stuck up there. We are going to try to put something under her crib mattress to keep her at a slight incline while sleeping (as long as we can get her to sleep on both sides of head, since we won't be able to alternate ends of the crib each night). Let me know what you hear after your appointment tomorrow!

Overall, the 1 month check up went great. She weighed 9lbs, 11oz (66 percentile) and was a little over 22" (92 percentile). She's gained exactly 3 lbs since birth. The doc was shocked that her cord is still on and said it still seemed stuck on their pretty good and may be another week or two. As far as the baby acne, doc said it usually peaks around 4 weeks and to use either just water or Aveeno wash. Em fussed a bit at her 2nd hepatitis shot, but fell right asleep after a few minutes.

I also asked about a suggested schedule since I was concerned about the amount of feeding/awake/sleep/play time and thought I may have been letting her sleep too much and not getting enough playtime in. She recommends still nursing every two hours (three tops) during the day, followed by a little playtime IF she's interested, then nap. After two hours since we last started nursing...repeat. For bedtime, she suggested putting her down around 8-ish. It was nice to hear that I'm not screwing up too badly then?!?!

@kml636: no shots for us! Our first well visit is actually at two months. We took him in today to dbl chk his acne on chest. Im scared for next month when hell probably get three shots :'( I'm having dh take the day off to come w us

@SLR: I heard the same about aveeno! We.were using j&j and will switch to thr aveeno after finishing our cetaphil.

@JessLC: I am too! We've been so luck thus far that I'm so self conscious about bfing issues... nips were extra sore todat for some reason. I will def be conscious for my massage tom. Yhr shouldet pain is horrible... def need the massage.

So A was fussy all day and noy going down for more than 30 mon... dh didn't listen to me earlier when I thought it mightve been the fleece onesie making him too hot... what do ya know. A is finally pased after hia daddy changed him to a cotton onesie!!!! Mother's instinct!!!! we had a good laugh about it.

We got her picture taken with Santa today! We showed up at the mall right as Santa took his 30 minute lunch break but it was awesome because there was no line at all. He was super rough with the hysterical toddler before us but when I walked up with ny little sleepy monkey of a newborn he was so excited and said that was his favorite kind of kid. Then he spent a bunch of xtra time cooing at her and such lol. I'm Jewish so it wad my first experience meeting Santa and it was a great experience! I can't wait to surprise DH and my MIL with the pics (they are Christian).

@mrsjyw: Same here. We were using J&J too, but the doc said that it is drying. I know Cetaphil is good too. My SIL said that's what she was told to use for her daughter's baby acne.

Any one else terrified of allergies in their LO? M tends to have a fair amount of mucus in her poop. Doc checked it out at her two week appt and there was no blood in her stool so he said not to worry unless it gets worse or we see blood or weird colored poo. We haven't seen those things but the mucus hasn't gone away, and she seems to be getting more and more gassy. I'm really scared about a dairy allergy. It would be extremely difficult for me to cut dairy out of my diet. But I would feel like a complete failure if I quit breastfeeding because of the inconvenience of an allergy. Nevermind that I really don't want the added cost of formula. And M has refused to sleep all day unless in my arms. And hubs just left to finish Christmas shopping and will probably be gone for a while. I am a stressed out mana right now.

@MamaMoose: I haven't experience this (yet). Just curious, how can you tell it's mucus? Is it more runny or is it obviously mucusy? Cutting out dairy would be really tough. Because of Em's reflux issues, I had also considered about cutting out caffeine and dairy because I've heard that can help. But I also thought to myself that it would create quite the temptation to go to formula. Mine has also not wanted to nap in her crib lately...wonder if that's a phase they go through right about now? Hope tonight goes well and your hubby gets home soon!

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@SLR: the poo is "stringy". If you push the diaper together and then pull it apart you can see the stringy mucus in the poop. The doc seemed pretty unconcerned about it but I tend to be a worse case scenario kind of person : (

  23. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@MamaMoose: i've read that sometimes if they are getting too much foremilk, it can look more mucusy. i noticed if i eat certain things, it is mucusy too - like asparagus, which made her poop look and smell very weird, but i don't know if that is considered an allergy or not. is your LO in pain? or does she pass the gas easily? sorry you are stressed out mama!!

@mrsjyw: hah. mama always knows best! it is pretty neat how the motherly instinct kicks in, isn't it?

  24. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@MamaMoose: i am a worst case scenario person too. i think of all the possible things that could go wrong and all the different iterations of how one tiny thing could blow up into some massive catastrophe with LO. most of the time it turns out to be nothing, but its so hard to control the worrying!!

  25. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@JessLC: I ate asparagus last night!! Maybe that's part of her fussiness today. I don't think she's in pain because she's happy as a clam in my arms. But she fusses as soon as I put her down. If she was in pain I think it would take more than picking her up to make her feel better.

@highwire: my hemmorrhoids have been acting up lately too. I was doing fiber supplements in the morning and stool softeners at night. But LO has been really gassy so I felt like I had to cut out the fiber and just do the colace. I'm hoping things will get better soon!

  27. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@MamaMoose: oh that is funny! i ate asparagus for like 3 days straight for lunch, and her poop was green and mucusy. when i stopped, her poop was back to normal mustardy and seedy the next day!

@Mrs. Tricycle: I'm with you. I went to Target yesterday to try to buy stocking stuffers and I just got so frustrated by trying to find things and spending money on stuff no one really cares about anyway. And I was rushing to get home before it was time to feed the baby again. I basically just gave up and called my dad and told him I needed him to deal with it when he gets to town.

@chelsearose: @scg00387: have either of you been experiencing back pain from your scoliosis? my back is killing me from lifting LO up and down all the time. anytime i carry weight in front of me, my back hurts. i'm trying to stretch and do back exercises (any suggestions?) to strengthen the muscles, but i'm so tired of my back hurting. ugh.

  31. ChelseaRose

    persimmon / 1161 posts

@JessLC: My back has been more sore than normal, but I don't know if it is due to the scoliosis or not. Carrying a 12 pound baby around the house makes my back tired and I think I've been arching it too much. Luckily my baby isn't one that demands to be held constantly. I'd really love a massage though or even a warm bath.

@MamaMoose: A has very mucousy poop too! I'm wondering if it's dairy...

@MamaMoose: @SLR: Ariela has been AWFUL at going down for sleep unless I'm holding her. DH is frustrated and thinks it's because I hold her top much and wants me to keep trying to put her down and the result is she's hardly slept all day and we're all tired. He doesn't fully get it that babies do what they want and gets frustrated that we don't have more of a routine. I wonder if it's a phase if your babies are doing it too...

@JessLC: yep mine is awful trying not to overdo the alive, and use hot/cold packs. Wish I had better advice but the only thing that has helped has been being more careful about back support while breastfeeding

@mamamoose I've been thinking the exact same thing about poop gas and allergies. My mom says its just a developmental thing to get grassier and I find it overwhelming to think of how to figure out what foods might be affecting him. Reading online it seems like its not as common as I thought so for now I'm just trying to be a better burper

Way behind on this thread, even with my mom here I am overwhelmed between baby napping worse fussing more the holidays and unpacking. Hoping everyone gets some fun in amidst holiday chaos!

Anyone want to share what their day kind of looks like? I know babies this young vary a lot bit I feel like I have no clue if I'm on the level with awake vs sleep time. and it seems like we can't find a great groove .

Also am I the only one who doesn't wake up if day naps go long?? It doesn't seem to affect night sleep for him were usually getting one four hour bit and then a three or two twos.

@travelgirl1: for the past three nights the baby only sleeps in my arms. The sleep deprivation is killing me. I can't believe they 3 day old sleep was better than 4 week old sleep!! I feel like I'm going backwards!!

  37. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@scg00387: it changes so much at the moment, sometimes she sleeps through, sometimes not. But typically I think she wakes once at about 5am for a feed, and we're up for the day at about 8am. Depending how hungry she is, all day she pretty much eats then naps, but around 10 she's usually in a good mood so we play with her. We try to get in at least two play sessions a day. I try to prepare her to go down at about 9 or 10 but this can go on for hours! She's happy to sleep, but wakes up the moment we put her down. Some days it's 2am before she goes down properly.

  38. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@Mrs. Tricycle: how do you get on when you go out? Will he nap in the stroller etc? A hates being in hers and will cry until we pick her up, which is fine when both of us are there as one can carry her the other push the empty stroller but when you're on your own on a busy shop it's really not fun. I'm sure she'd love baby wearing but we can't do it because of her hips, sigh.

  39. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@scg00387: Ours also varies day by day. Up until yesterday's dr appointment, I was feeling like maybe I should be working towards some sort of a schedule. But the doc recommended that we not worry about a 'schedule' until maybe two months or so...and that at this point baby should determine the schedule. Doc suggested that we follow a pattern of (1) nurse, (2) sit upright for 30 min (because of her refluxing), which can be combined with play time if she is interested, (3) nap, (4) around two hours from her last nursing session, begin getting her up to start the process over again. I was concerned that I wasn't getting enough awake time or play time, but the doc said that we really shouldn't be too concerned at this point - that they are still really tired at this stage. She recommended still trying to feed every two hours (three tops) during the day because that might help her go longer stretches at night. We'll see...

Lately though, her sleep has been awful. She doesn't want to sleep at night unless in your arms and naps have been super short. After about 20 minutes, she starts fussing to get up. Fortunately, she does sleep well in the car and stroller, so we always have that as a last resort during the day.

Normally, while she's got a great latch once she's on, I have to push her to get on my boob. It's almost like she's fighting it, although I know she is hungry and wants to nurse. But last night, she was really fussy during a couple feedings. Like arching her back, screaming, and squirming all over the place fussy. Do any of yours ever get like this?

  40. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@SLR: geez between the length of nursing plus keeping upright I would never get anything done if I fed every two hours!!! We do three hours during the day. I'll do it earlier if she cries and is obviously hungry but we only wake her to eat if it's been a full three hours. And M sleeps fine at night. Last night I fed her at 8:30, she went down at 9:30, and then I woke her to eat at 4:30 because I couldn't believe she'd gone 8 hours. Andmy boobs were killing me.
