@travelgirl1: in his room ideally with dimmer lights!

@travelgirl1: usually in my bed or in our loft which connects our bedroom to the baby's room. We always try to do it with the lights very low. Sometimes the tv will be on low but that doesn't seem to distract her. Our LO is really tough to put down too. She doesn't fuss but she will fake you out and suck her paci and close her eyes for about five minutes and right when you think you can put her in the crib she pops her eyes open, spits out the paci and smirks at you. Aaaahhhhh.

We moved her back to her crib last night. We were getting 6 to 8 hour stretches in the rock n play and the most she did last night was four! Plus she was grunting so loudly on the monitor that I barely slept at all! I hate to mess with a good thing when the rock n play is working so well but I really want her to sleep well in her crib from an early age so it's not a battle later.

@scg00387: We've been doing the Halo sleep sacks too, and this seems to be what works the best for us so far. I bought one 3-6 month since she was getting too long for the newborn size. This seems to be working much better, so I need to run out and get a couple more.

@travelgirl1: We've also been doing it in the living room for the most part. I'd like to use the glider in her room, but it's so much harder to get her comfortable. The bobby doesn't fit so I use a regular bed pillow, and all in all, it's just more cumbersome. So far she doesn't seem to mind the couch with the TV on low, but I'm sure this will come to an end real soon. Middle of the night feedings are in her room.

Last night was actually a good night. We tried getting her down at 8:30 and were unsuccessful. Ended up getting her in the crib @ 10:20 and she slept for a little over 4 hours. I got her back in there around 3am and she is just now starting to wake up. Fingers crossed that she'll keep this up!!! I'd really like some consistency here!

Today is my 6wk PP appointment. Looking forward to getting the okay for exercise, although I have snuck in a few quick 30 day shred workouts.

Oh, and believe it or not...her cord JUST came off on Saturday. 5.5 weeks old! I was wondering if we were gonna set a record.

We are having a horrible night of sleep mostly due to gas. We put him down around 10, but I don't think he really fell asleep and stayed asleep until at least 10:30. Then he woke up around 2am, which is much earlier than I expected. We had several days of 7-hour stretches. It turned out that he go out of his swaddle (miracle blanket) with both arms and a leg. My husband put him in it and didn't do the arm part correctly on purpose because he thinks the baby doesn't like to be so restricted. He also didn't give him the extra milk that I left out. I was really annoyed because I think both of these things would have helped him sleep longer. Then after a couple more hours baby was grunting and moving his legs a bunch due to gas. I gave him some gas medicine hoping that would help. An hour later he was uncomfortable again. I got up at six to change him and feed him and I'm hoping he will go back down because he must be tired. I know I am.

I think baby is going through his 6 week growth spurt because for the past three nights, he's been up every 2.5 hours to nurse. Ugh. Tired.

@ChelseaRose: my LO has been doing tons of grunting and squirming too. It keeps her and us up a lot! We've been doing gas drops which help for a limited time. I'm also hoping that as soon as the dairy gets out of my system things will improve. I feel so bad for the little bugger (and for me and my lack of sleep!)

@ChelseaRose: My DH does the same. Claims she doesn't want to be swaddled even though we have watched happiest baby on the block many times. Runs to pick her up constantly even though I've explained we both sleep better when she's in the crib, not the rock and play (she grunts all night waking me up). It's frustrating but I am trying not to be too critical. It's hard!

Yesterday she fussed and fussed and finally went to sleep in the rock and play at 10:30 and slept until... 5:30!!! I'm so happy! Now, I'm going to see if she'll do it again or if it was just a fluke. She only will eat 8 - 9 mins per side then pull off screaming. I don't know what is going on.

@kml636: are you burping often? Usually when M pulls off the breast and cries its because she has a burp or some spit up ready to come out. Usually I don't even have to burp her, just sit her upright and she'll let out a huge belch and then she'll chow down again.

  9. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@MamaMoose: Thanks. maybe I need to burp more often because she definitely is a burper/spitter. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.

@kml636: woohoo sleep! My LO does that if he has a burp or if its ccoming out too fast. I try to lean back and let him come on/ off a few times and he usually settles

Hi Everyone! I joined Hellobee a few weeks ago and thought I would introduce myself as I am a fellow Nov mama I've been going through this thread and read it all, so good to hear many of you are having the same issues I am and going through the same things! My DD was born on 11/12 and so far things are going good! almost 8 weeks now, crazy how fast time is flying! Her feeding is getting better (if you saw my previous post) but she is still on a short schedule during the day (eats every 1.5-2 hours)...so trying to get a better schedule in place! so far it has been baby led, but I want to start implementing some sort of schedule so that our days arent as hectic and when I go back to work part time, it will be easier for our babysitter. nice to "meet" you all!

@ChelseaRose: @MamaMoose: my LO used to grunt A TON during her sleep...we have her on baby zantac and she sleeps at an incline due to reflux and it has helped a TON...we also started sleeping her on her side, with blankets wedged tightly so she cant move and that also helps alot...I think she hated being on her back and would grunt so much

@kml636: for the past week or so, my LO has been pulling off and screaming bloody murder when I try and feed her...several lacation consultants have told me this is due to my overactive letdown, so now I nurse in the reclined position and pull her off and spray into a towel before she chokes so that helps...but sometimes I think it is just because she is not hungry, and just overly tired! if only they could talk and let us know what was wrong...:)

@mrsjyw: ha, when I had to go to the dr for mastitis, I totally leaked through my gown. I was dripppping milk everywhere. Gahh! Sorry no advice about where baby should sleep - we're definetly not role models in that arena.

  20. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@NovBaby1112: we are getting to the point where we are considering Zantac at least for a little while. She never cries when she spits so we were thinking she wasn't having any discomfort but the grunting seems to imply otherwise.

@MamaMoose: @kml636: I'm sorry your babies are grunting and groaning too. I just feel so bad for him because I know he's uncomfortable and doesn't understand why. I've thought about cutting out dairy too, but I don't consume much now and the only issue we have is the gas. We've had a couple of nights that were really bad because of it, but it mostly isn't a big problem.

  23. ChelseaRose

@NovBaby1112: I don't think my little guy has reflux luckily. He rarely spits up (only a handful of times) and doesn't usually seem too uncomfortable after eating. He's been a loud sleeper since the beginning though.

@MamaMoose: my LO was a huge grunter for the first 6 weeks....she made so many animal noises and so loudly, but she doesn't have reflux. She doesn't grunt nearly as much now...actually hardly at all.

@NovBaby1112: Welcome! Just curious about the Zantac....is it helping with the spitting up at all, or just the discomfort? I had read somewhere that it won't do much for the spitting up, but someone also had told me otherwise. DD has a bit of reflux that usually doesn't seem to bother her too much (at least not enough that we had pursued medication yet). But after spitting up the other day, she was screaming bloody murder and has a couple times since. Not sure if it's starting to bother her more.

@mrsjyw: Ha! I was so afraid that was going to happen to me at my appt today too! I'm sure they see that ALL the time.

  29. NovBaby1112

    grapefruit / 4066 posts

@SLR: the zantac just seems to help the pain, not the spit up...however, she doesn't spit up that much and its not a large amount....our doc and myself thought she might have silent reflux, where the acid comes up the throat but not all the way so they don't spit up a lot.

@scg00387: I should try those heating pads. DH has been really helpful in lifting the baby up and down whenever he is around but once he goes back to work on Monday it'll be all me and my back again

    @NovBaby1112: welcome welcome!

@ChelseaRose: did u have a better night last night? I hope so.

LO did a 10 hour night two nights ago and is almost at 9 for last night. I'm up pumping because my boobs were leaking and engorged. I thought they were supposed to regulate. Ive notoced that my pump doesmt empty my left breast as well as my right. My left always still feels full after I pump if I'm engorged. Anyway she has also had a couple meltdowns during the day when she was hungry and screaming and wouldn't latch on. That is unusual for her, I don't know if its because we aren't at home or what. I hope it passes! And...we went to the mall and I can't stop buying clothes for her. We are going on a tropical vacation in Feb and I bought all these cute summer dresses and swimsuits and hats for her! I totally was not finding enjoyment in shopping for myself.

DD is sounding a little...phlegmy? And DH said he wasn't feeling well. Ugh I hate this time of year!!! Staying away from people and breastfeeding a lot today. And lots of fluids for me just in case.

@JessLC: yes, much better. Thanks for checking in! He slept from 10-4:30 and then went back down pretty easily. Or love for him to sleep longer, but at least we are moving back in that direction.

  34. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@JessLC: 10 hours! That's amazing! Lily made up for her 7 hour night by waking up every three hours last night... ugh...

Has anyone tried doing dream feeds yet? I tried last night with a bottle and I think it was a big FAIL. Fed her at 10:30, and she was up at 1:30... so it did not help her to sleep longer.

  35. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@kml636: I want to but am too scared! I'm sure I'll end up getting her all riled up. Did yours wake? I've read a couple ways to do it...one in which you try to keep them asleep the whole time and another where you actually get them up and change diaper before feeding (I guess they are supposed to stay pretty drowsy through this?).

  36. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@SLR: she definitely woke up. So, maybe I did it wrong but she is a big burper so I lifted her up at an angle to feed her and then burped her... Maybe I'll try again when she's a little older

@highwire: My little guy is the same way, instead of just dry gook it's slimy snot Worried he caught something from the 100 relatives that touched him - he has also spit up a lot more last night & this morning and seemed upset so I wonder if snot is running into his stomach.. ugh!

  38. NovBaby1112

    grapefruit / 4066 posts

@highwire: my Lo was sounding very congested so we took her to the docs just in case, and he said many babies around the 6-8 week period become stuffy, and congested as they are getting used to our air. He said to run the cool mist humidifier and use saline drops and aspirantor

  39. NovBaby1112

    grapefruit / 4066 posts

@kml636: I tried last night to dream feed and it was a major fail as well! She didn't fully wake at all and it was hard to get her to latch...but she still woke at her normal time ughh

Is anyone noticing an increased fussiness and general unsettled behavior in their Lo's? Dd has been hard to calm lately and more alert and not sleepy, heard fussiness peaks at 6-8 weeks tho...

  40. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@NovBaby1112: My LO is definitely more fussy. Usually she is all smiles in the morning, today she has been grumpy and screaming all day. She also refuses to nap... Wakes up every ten mins.
