@SLR: That sounds just like A! We bought Tommee Tippee, Medela and Avent - she hates them all. Gah!

@mrsjyw: We always swaddle on a night or she won't sleep, but she always busts out of it. But we don't for naps really, and as a result she will only really nap on us. I find it difficult timing when to put the swaddle sleep sack on during the day though, I always seem to leave it too late.

We are at the hospital for A's first weekly ultrasound/harness check.... praying it's made a bit of difference.

And, I just realised that sleepers that fasten this way http://www.gapcanada.ca/browse/product.do?cid=78081&vid=1&pid=297893003 still fit in her own size! YEAH!!!! I am so hapy about that! It was really odd going shopping for clothes for my 10-week-old and looking for sizes six months and up, now I know I can still put her in a couple of her old cute outfits and it's made my day : )

@travelgirl1: good luck! Hope everything went well! And re: 6 monyh clothing... I was just looking thru A's sleepers, thinking o need to buy bigger sizes... and realized that meant six months+!!!

So we put A down at 8 and I was firm about it. He woke up fussy a few times before 9. Then at 915 I got into bed, nursed him again and he slept until 330! (: need to keep doing this... but we are going up north overnight on Saturday to visit dh's extnded family..hope it doesn't mess w Lo's sleep too much...*fingers crossed*

Cd moms how is it going? We've been slowly starting but mostly jist using disposies right now. Will go fulltime in the next few wks!

Really trying to cherish this time w LO...can't believe how close work os!

@travelgirl1: Hope all is going well for baby A! Poor girl... Thinking of you guys!
I'm also so bummed about the clothes, I should have gotten her 3 month stuff out earlier. She's almost grown out of it and I haven't put her in most of the outfits!
@mrsjyw: I'm using CDs here in the house. Mostly, I can't always tell when she pees, and they do seem to leak a little more than disposable. But washing has been no problem. Overall, its' been really easy.

My mom proposed watching LO part time when I go back to work so LO would only have to go to daycare part time. And then she just took the offer back. Sigh. I wish she just hadnt mentioned it to begin with and got my hopes up.

@highwire: my mom is offering to rearrange her work schedule to work extra long days 4 days a week JUST so we can do daycare 4 of the 5 days while she watched him 1 day a week - I can't let her do that! I wish there was an easy solution to both work AND take care of our son...

@MamaC: yeah it totally stinks. My mom doesn't work so it doeskt interfere with a job or anything

  7. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@highwire: Oh no! Did she have a good reason as to why? Do you think she'll change her mind again?

A was a little star again today, having an ultrasound, examination by the ortho surgeon and some neck exercises by the physio. She did cry in all of them but not too bad until the physio stuff and I didn't cry until those either (yay, BIG improvement) but I had to walk away from the physio stuff, it looked like they were twisting her head off, bless her, so I let DH deal with it and I did the comforting later. Anyway - the ultrasound showed a SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT to last week! Good job Ariela! We're going back again next week and if it's more of the same then we'll only have to go for checks every three weeks and it will probably only be 14 weeks of wearing it in total. And, we might even get to take it off for an hour each day to bath her, but not for about five weeks or so. Also, today I wasn't the upset new mum in the waiting room - I was the one giving advice to the people there waiting for their LOs to be put in harnesses. I daren't let myself get too hopeful but today went as well as we could have dared ask for!

@travelgirl1: I'm so glad to hear that A made improvements!! 14 weeks is nothing! Think how fast 40 weeks of pregnancy went by!

@highwire: If your mom is wishy washy it's probably best that she not watch C. I would hate for you to rely on her and then have her let you down. Especially when you guys have had your ups and downs in the past. I'm sure C will do great at day care!

@travelgirl1: she has some health problems and @MamaMoose: is right. i just wish we could have at least tried it out before she decided that she didnt want to do it. oh well, moving on

How are your LOs sleeping these days? Most nights C is going down at 7, up for a feeding around 3, then back down again until 7. I am shocked she is sleeping so well this early (7.5 weeks)

  11. mrsjyw

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts

@travelgirl1: hoooray! go A! and go mama!

@highwire: A's done really well this last week with 2 6 hour stretches. And this is in the crib and pnp with a rolled towel underneath. (He slept on the newborn lounger or napper the first 4-5 weeks, so I'm glad he's adjusting well to semi-flat surface) The past couple of nights we put him down early at 8 or 9pm... (he's usually down at 10 or 11, so this was a HUGE improvement for us!)

He wakes at 330/430 no matter what time we put him down, so I'm glad he's adjusting well to going down earlier!... and then wakes again at 8/9 for his am feeding... if he gets up earlier, he usually goes back down right away for a couple more hours. A is 8 weeks!

Today we're headed up north (1.5 hours) to ILs hometown to show A off to DH's extended family. His first meet and greet with them! We're just going overnight, but I'm still nervous about how he'll sleep in the travel crib MIL borrowed from her friend. *Keeping fingers crossed*

How is post partum for everyone? I feel 100% as far as recovery down there and the episiotomy hasn't been an issue intimately, which I was REALLY worried about! As far as the weight loss though, I'm still looking at 30+ lbs to go to prepreg + prebfp weight (I gained 8-10 lbs or so from my normal)... I've done workout vidoes here and there, but starting Monday, I'm going to eat clean (no processed junk) and sign up for some group classes to keep me motivated. I go back to work in a month and need to fit into my work pants!!! I refuse to buy new clothes or wear maternity work pants! (KNOCK ON WOOD).

    have a great weekend mamas<3

@mrsjyw: have fun!! My moms side flew in to meet Charlie and we are I'm the way to see them now

@highwire: We get a good four or five hour stretch (though got 6 hours two nights last week), and then a 2 or 3 hour stretch. It's not ideal, but bearable. Still co-sleeping in the guest room, but naps are now in the crib - feel like that's a HUGE accomplishment. They're short (20-45 minutes usually), but it's nice to have at least a little break!

@mrsjyw: I got back to work in 4 weeks, and I'm 90% sure my "regular" pants are NOT going to fit. I've been eating pretty healthfully, and walking regularly, but not losing the weight in my thighs and butt. Tummy is slowly deflating. I caved today and ordered some dress pants from Lands End (like that I can return them to Sears) in 2 sizes bigger than normal. I have two pairs of maternity pants that aren't full panel that I can also wear. So depressing. Sigh.

@highwire: That is so tough about your mom! I'm so sorry she did that to you. Going back is going to be so hard either way. My parents own a business and I was hoping my mom could do even one day a week but she says she can't. Sucks!

@mrsjyw: I have such a muffin top/pouchy belly now. I can barely fit into my former "fat" pants and yet I really don't want to have to buy new ones so going to work will be interesting.

We DTD woohoo!! DH was like not pumped about the idea AMD we had a big talk about why. He finally told me that he was really freaked out from my post partum hemmorage and he was convinced I was going to die and he was going to be a single dad. I had no idea he was feeling that way and I was so sad that he's been dealing with those feelings with no support. But we talked it out and he felt better.

DTD didn't hurt at all and we didn't need any lube, which surprised me. Things aren't as tight down there (sob!!!!) But I know things are still healing. Time to focus on kegels a little more!!

@travelgirl1: yay! so glad to hear about A's improvement!! hopefully each week brings more and more good news!

@highwire: LO is going down around 9pm, and for over a week has been waking up around 6-7am! loving it but scared it won't last! i'm not sure when i should start pushing her to sleep earlier. but for now this is good! and awesome abt it not hurting DTD. w/o going into too much detail we've tried and ouchie. haha i only had a small tear too altho i did need stitches. did you get stitches at all?

@mrsjyw: postpartum i feel normal. i still have about 9lbs left to lose to get to pre preg weight. (gained a few lb's over the holidays! whoops!). right now only my "fat" pants fit. i'm taking about 3.5 weeks more vacation after maternity leave ends so i'm hoping by mid march i'll be down to my pre preg weight. my long term goal is 10lbs more than that but i haven't weighed that since high school! haha

is everyone's LO's socially smiling now? It sounds like it from what i've read. My LO hasn't been doing it consistently. She's alittle over 8 weeks old! She was born almost 2.5 weeks early tho so what i've read if they're born premature it may take alittle more time altho i don't know if 2.5 weeks counts as premature? anyway, kind of scared its taking so long! hoping by her 2 month appt next week that she'll be doing it more!

@kodybear: where does you lo sleep? So jealous of sleep!! I think our longest stetch is 6.5 hours.

  21. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

LO is up to 9.5 hours for her first stretch of sleep, and she did another 3.5 after that last night. Wish I could share the sleeping dust with you all. It may be because she's not EBF? She is still half and half on breastmilk/formula.

  22. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@mrsjyw: she sleeps in her crib. But she also is partially formula fed (~65% bm) since I don't produce enough for her. So that may contribute to the long stretch as well

  23. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@highwire: 9.5 hours?!! That's awesome. Color me jealous! We are averaging a 6 hour stretch followed by a 3-4. We are going to take away the bassinet and go back to the crib tonight...my guess is tonight is going to be a crapshoot.

@kodybear: Mine started smiling a few weeks ago (she's 2 months today), but it's become more frequent just in the past week or so. She is smiley during diaper changes when I sing to her and sometimes when looking at the toys on her activity mat. Other than that, I have to coax them out of her.

  24. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@SLR: she doesn't sleep that entire time I don't think. She will wake up and cry a little occasionally but manages to soothe herself back to sleep for whatever reason. I feel very lucky and am just going to enjoy it for as long as she is willing to do it (which might not be forever)

  25. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@kodybear: LO's smiles are increasing in frequency each day. It is crazy to watch her develop. each day she is different!!

LOVE A's smiles and coos!! He is esp chatty after his am nursing session... (:

So we survived the trip up north. Everyone loved him. But, I had a hard time sleeping (A did not sleep well), due to the dust/dry air in the house (ILs first home and they're not there too often). Plus, we had so many relatives to see that A did not nap often or well either :(... I'm glad to be home. It was def a diff visit w relatives than pre-LO, as expected. We are going to try again in a month... and bring a humidifier with us!

After the last 24+ hours, we got home bathed and nursed him and A's been out since 9pm... hope he gets some good sleep tonight!

How are things with your DH/SO? We've been bickering a lot lately and I think it's mostly me feeling really drained physically and mentally. He does a lot, but I've still caught myself building up resentment over the general "moms do more" sentiment in parenting. Ironically, I probably add to the resentment because I'm an A-type control freak that insists on doing more at this point since DH is back work. On the flip side!~ we have DTD and it wasn't painful at all! HOOORAY!!! (I was very afraid of this as I had an unexpected episiotomy.)

hope you all had a great wknd and get some sleep tonight!

@MamaMoose: @mrsjyw: @Mrs. Tricycle: @kodybear: Thanks guys, we are super happy. And just to give you an idea of how brave she is, here's a picture of her in the hospital waiting room. Look at that smile!

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@mrsjyw: Good job on your trip! I'm sure it will get easier with time. I did have a few weeks where it seemed DH and I bickered a lot because we had different views on putting her down for naps and a few other things, but we settled down once we understood both of us were only saying the things we did because we truly believed it was right for A. We reached a few compromises too. We had a big talk about sex and the differences for us I think are I feel like my body is purely geared up for looking after a baby right now and not sexy at all, but I'm trying to change my opinion on that at the moment. Also, seeing how strong he has been at the hospital has been amazing. I have no idea how I would have coped there without him, seeing my baby in pain makes me cry, but it makes him strong and able to help her.

Oh my gosh yall, C slept (or stayed in her crib without a feeding and without extended crying) all night last night. 7pm-730am.

Then we had a nursing session where each of us were covered in leaking breastmilk. And I had to change the sheets on our bed. But I will take it!!

  31. SleepyMonkey

@mrsjyw: i have the same resentment type feeling against DH. he is very helpful and wants to be so involved, but i constantly feel the burden of being the only one that can feed her because she fights the bottle. so i'm the one that gets up in the middle of the night to feed her, and since i'm totally a control freak too, i have a certain way that i like to do things like put her down for naps and whatever. so i'm struggling with this too. its not his fault, its just the way that it is!

A is 2 months old today! After the horrible sleep up north, the slept well last night and is napping well today!

@JessLC: this is.def my problem too! Talking it out def helps and yields action on both our parts.

I know separation anxiety can't start until they understand object permanence but I swear any time I leave and he gets a bottle he's fussy the whole next day! Went on our first date this weekend while grandma babysat. Thinking about trying the humidifier bc he's so congested even with saline and nosefrida; anyone else using one at night?

We've been noticing the cutest things lately his eyelashes are getting dark and longer! Wondering when his baby hair will fall out it seems to be thinning already.

@mrsjyw: oh my gah! such a cute little man!!!

@travelgirl1: such a pretty little lady!

@highwire: whoa, momma! 12+ hrs of sleep!?? that is awesome! i find that when LO sleeps longer than 8 hours, i am wide awake because my boobs are engorged and i can't fall back asleep. its like i've waited for these long stretches of sleep, but i don't know what to do with myself and i can't sleep the way i used to!

@scg00387: yes! my LO's eyelashes are much longer than when she was born...they were pretty much non-existent when she was born. and i'll be so sad when LO's hair falls out. its so funny looking right now, its like 2 inches long and sticks straight up on top in the middle. she has this little mohawk.
