@ChelseaRose: @MamaMoose: @mrsjyw: @SLR: @scg00387: aw thank you, you guys always say the loveliest things she's been even better today, although she freaked when we have her a sponge wash and changed her clothes, but I think that's just because it took so long as we had to negotiate around the straps so she got mad. To wash her hair we had to wrap her in a towel and hold her over the sink then pour water over her hair and she hated that too but baby girl has a ton of hair so we can't avoid washing it.
How have all your babies got on with their shots?
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@travelgirl1: sorry i'm a little late, but i just want to say GREAT job mama! it breaks my heart to hear about her in her little harness, but your little lady will be just fine. keep us posted on her progress.
re: shots. she cried when she got them, then took a loooong nap and woke up screaming in pain her leg was all swollen from the shots and hot to the touch, so we gave her infant tylenol and a warm bath and massaged her thigh. then she was fine after that and back to her old self the next day. how about yours?

@scg00387: we do follow a eat, play, sleep cycle. after the nightmare that was the 6 week growth spurt, he's been an angel this past week!
depending on when we get him down for the night, this is what our day looks like:
9am - wake up, eat, dipe change, play
11am - morning nap
1pm wake up, eat, dipe change, play
3pm - afternoon nap
5pm - wake up, eat, dipe change, play
7pm - evening nap
8pm - wake up, eat, dipe change, play
10 or 11pm - down for the night with usually a quick nursing session/small bottle, we've been trying to put him down drowsy with a paci; sometimes use a white noise app but sometimes not...
then he wakes up at 330/430 (5.5 hour stretch) eats, (maybe a dipe change), then falls right back asleep until 8/9 the following morning. and we do it all over the next day.
we bathe him every other night right now around 8 ish, his naps are usually 1.5 to 2 hours... eats every 3-4, the times are diff every day, but we managed to survive a baby shower outing for 4+ hours based on his cycles
@travelgirl1: we go in next week for his 2 month shots. i'm so scared for them :((( hoping he'll fare better than i will! dh is coming with me
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@JessLC: Thank you lovely : ) Well she hasn't had her shots yet - she was meant to get them last Friday but she went in her harness that day and we thought it would be too much to do them all at once so she is having them a week on Friday instead. But, she has ultrasounds and her harness checked every Friday morning so she will already be upset when she goes in for her shots at 2pm. And we can't give her a bath and massage her because of the straps so not quite sure how we'll handle it but I daren't put them off any longer.
I've started trying to be a bit tougher and put her down in her crib for naps but she just woke up after ten minutes. When I went in there she gave me a huge grin, ha ha. How can you be upset at a failed nap when you get greeted with that? : )
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@mrsjyw: why is the EASY routine so easy for you! i'm so so jealous! i am having such a hard time with LO's naps (i posted on the main board about it) and i can't get her to nap for more than half an hour. wahhh! all i can think about all day is her naps!
@travelgirl1: how long does she have to be in the harness for? i hope her shots go ok! she is a trooper. and no, you can't be upset when they greet you with one of their big toothless grins!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@JessLC: we def have days where he cat naps...but usually his naps avg an hour and a half or so. Sometimes shorter sometimes as long as two and a half hours. We usually put him in the bouncer or swong w a paci and lovey. And even if he wakrs up we redo the paci n sleep sheep til he falls asleep again. Like rt now he woke up after 40 min but was still yawning...im holding him now n he nust passed out again. Our troubles have def been figuring out longer nighttime stretches! Hoping these last few nights of 5+stretches last!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@mrsjyw: I don't think LO has napped more than an hour in like a week! Re: longer nighttime stretches, sounds like he has good daytime sleep and he is getting to the age where he will probably just start sleeping an hour longer on his own every few days. Just be patient! One day you'll wake up and it will have been 8 hours and you'll be like, what just happened and rush to see if your baby is still alive. And he will just be snoozing away
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mrsjyw: thanks for sharing! Also jealous of your long naps! I try to put him back down when he wakes but he goes nuts and acts starving.
Last night he slept almost six, almost four, and then almost three hours from eight pm to nine am.... Ahhmazing and wish I knew why! Babies are so confusing!
pear / 1616 posts
@ChelseaRose: i'm one of those ppl that put that baby in the carseat on the top of the cart. BUT our carseat happens to click into the top of the cart so theres no way it can slide or topple over. for other places with carts we usually put her in the big part of the cart or if the cart is wide enough we put her in sideways. can't wait till she's old enough to sit in the cart! lately i've been baby wearing alot tho which helps alot.
@highwire: bleeding stopped around 4 weeks but i'm not sure if the bleeding i had last week at 7 weeks was more pp bleeding or my period cause it was alot lighter than my normal period.
@SCG00387: our schedule is feed at 6ish/9am/12pm/3pm/530pm/830pm. usually after a feed we *try* to do an activity and then she naps, or sometimes she just eats then naps. after 530pm sometimes if her naps were terrible during the day then she'll keep napping. i try not to let her sleep more than 1.5 hr after 530pm or i wake her up around 7pm and try to play with her so she is more tired at night. then i bath her at 8pm, feed at 830pm, and shes usually in her crib by 9pm. the last 4 nights she's slept 8-9 hours straight at night and it feels so good! i was scared it was a fluke but it seems to be the real deal. @jesslc: you're right that it just happened one day! she was doing 5-6 hour stretches and one day she just woke up after 8 hours! then the next day 8.5 hrs, then 9, today was 9.5! hope it lasts!
@travelgirl1: LO gets her shots in 2 weeks. not looking forward to it. it sounds like you guys are adjusting well and your LO is happier which is great to hear!

@scg00387: seriously. The mysteries of babies...chapters include:
Why my baby doesnt want to nap longer than 30 mins
Why my baby only takes a bottle if she is in my left arm but not my right
Why my baby takes a bottle easily from my mom but not my husband
Why.my baby loves to give me the deepest, most profound stare when she is pooping

@kodybear: congrats on getting good sleep! That's so exciting! I have my LO on the same schedule but she hates going to sleep at 9, and always wakes after 5.5 hours. I hope she gets to 8 - 9 hrs soon.

Another baby here who cat naps at best during day with one big daytime nap at some point randomly. But sleeping awesome at night! Slept 8 hrs straight last night, up for an hour, then back down for another 3. I'll take it!!
Eta: I put her down at 7/8ish. Any later and she's overtired and has trouble sleeping

@JessLC: hahaha love your examples, especially the pooping one. I have many iPhone pics of my LOs pooping face bc it cracks me up

@JessLC: I died laughing at your list. It's hysterical how they have the strangest preferences for things. They each have their own little personalities right from the start that's for sure!
My LO has had a rough day of little sleep because she keeps waking herself up with massive poops. I finally have her down for a nap and I'm going to have to wake her up shortly because I have a teeth cleaning. Uhhhhh.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@JessLC: Well the surgeon said if it works, it would be between three and six months but we just don't know. Right now it has to stay on her all the time, we can't take it off at all. But hopefully later we can take it off for one hour a day. If it doesn't work, we'll know that within three weeks, then they'd take it off and wait a few months for her ligaments to soften before they operate and put her in a cast. Sooooo hoping the harness works!
@mrsjyw: Ah, DH is coming with us for A's too : ) He's much better than me with her medical stuff. Hope A's shots go well!
@kodybear: Aw I hope her shots go well. A is doing sooo much better, really proud of how she's adapted.
@highwire: I am so jealous that you get C down at 7/8! We shoot for 10 and if quite often goes over.
@MamaMoose: Aw bless her waking herself up with her poops. Shockingly, A has never cried about a dirty diaper in her life - the girl just doesn't care about lying in muck, lol.

Where are all of your Los sleeping at night? We are half and half betweeen crib and pnp... the past few nights he's done 5.5 and 6 hr stretches in his crib...
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@mrsjyw: the crib, she loves it in there! Well, she loves chilling out and giggling in there during the day but screams her head off when you try to put her down in it at night, it takes about 4 attempts but she does sleep very well in there when she finally stays down.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@mrsjyw: crib! For naps too unless we are out and about. He sleeps much more soundly in the crib than the bouncer. He tends to take long naps too and we follow a general eat, play sleep pattern.
pear / 1616 posts
@mrsjyw: crib as well. She sleeps really well in there at night and goes down wo a fuss. Naps in the crib r hit or miss tho. Bleh
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@travelgirl1: I'm glad she's willing to go down early, but 8 hours later she's up which is 3am. Hoping she'll start skipping this feed soon lol.
@mrsjyw: we still have the bouncer sitting inside the crib. If it ain't broke, don't fix it so we are sticking with that as long as it works
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@mrsjyw: same as @kodybear. LO sleeps in her crib for naps and nighttime. Nighttime sleep is pretty good, but naps are awful for the most part. she's a chronic short napper.

Phew, ladies!! I've missed so much! My mom freaked me out with an article about the dangers of exposing babies' brains to cell phone radiation, so I haven't been on while nursing, our schedule is on the blog today, but even since I've written it things have changed. For the past few nights he's slept 5-6 hour stretches - huge breakthrough! We tried to put him to sleep in his crib last night, but he refused to fall asleep. He has taken two good naps in it the last two days, so that's progress!
I can't believe I go back to work in one month!
Hope you're all enjoying your Wed!

So jealous of everyone's progress and schedules. We still don't have much of one other than a general two hour cycle. Bedtime is around 9pm and she's up around 7-ish. I've been getting some time to do a quick workout DVD in the morning, so that's been nice. Need to get rid of the belly flab!
The girl is soooo demanding about her food though. She starts fussing after an hour and a half and can't seem to go more than two hours during the day. It's even worse now that she is refusing bottles because I can't get out for more than an hour at a time. I really wish she'd do every 3-4 hours like some yours...so jealous!!! Our 2M appointment in on Saturday, so maybe the doc will have some tips. (Doubt it though - most seem to say that every two hours is very normal for a BF baby.)
Night sleep got better, and then a little worse. She was doing a 5-6 hour followed by a 2-4 hour stretch. But over the past couple days, she's woken up after 1 hour and then done two 4 hours. Oh well...so much better than the early weeks!
Stopped at the daycare to pick up some paperwork the other day, so it's starting to hit home that I have to go back to work in a few weeks. We're going to do a trial day/afternoon in a couple weeks, so at least I'll get a feel for it and can get some feedback on any concerns. Hopefully we'll get the bottle issue resolved by then, otherwise I don't know what we'll do. I'm also curious how she'll do unswaddled for naps. I don't see that going over well.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: yay for more sleep!
@slr that's good that you're being proactive about daycare stuff! hope the bottles clear up soon
LO slept restlessly for 45 minutes with a few pickup/put downs.. then I finally thought I'd let him lay on me for a few more minutes to try and get to an hour of "rest"... and he passed out for another hour. I was dying to go to the bathroom so I set him in his crib thinking he'd wake up....and now he's slept another hour. So almost 3 hours of rest.
I am baffled. I know some of you wake up so they don't go longer than 3 hours between meals but... as long as it's not edging into late night "bed time" I'm going with let a sleeping baby sleep. I am loving that he is getting good rest.. but I wish I'd known so I could've maximized this stretch of quiet for my own purposes too!
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: oh, I'm so glad he's sleeping longer! I felt so exhausted for you reading your day in the life post.
I also read some stuff on babies and radiation... I even had one of those blocking blankets when I was pregnant. Now I'm not sure what to do.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@SLR: omg... You must be freaking out about her not taking a bottle! I hope it gets better for you soon.
I can't believe 12 weeks is almost up too. I finally asked my boss about part time... Still don't know what the outcome is yet!

@scg00387: hooray for long naps!!! So exciting. L had one yesterday where she slept about 2.5 hours. By all means, let them sleep!! But then she was back to her chronic catnaps. I'm just trying to go with the flow. She is now napping and nursing...
clementine / 824 posts
@scg00387: I don't wake either. Let him sleep and take it when you can get it!!
@kml636: I would looovve to do part time. Hope it works out for you!

OMG, I will NEVER again write that A does well in her crib just before bed time...it cursed me! Every two hours she got me up last night, and I don't even know why, she went straight back to sleep the second I picked her up but cried whenever I put her back down.
@highwire: How long does she go down for after the 3am feed?
@SLR: A won't take bottles either, gutted!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@travelgirl1: @SLR: another bottle rejecter here! She haaaates them and its a total crap shoot whether she will take one or not. At most she will drink 2.5oz but usually its 1-1.5 before she just falls asleep from crying so hard.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@JessLC: @SLR: what do your LOs do when you offer a bottle? A kind of chews it, might drink 1oz if she's not too pissed off then cries hard and flails her arms about like crazy. She also won't take a soother. Fun times, lol.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: I had been thinking about you. Glad to see you back and hear sleep is getting better in the Tricycle household!
@SLR: Will day care not swaddle? I didn't even think to ask that. I hope they'll swaddle her if I ask them to. She naps so much better and goes down so much easier with the swaddle!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@travelgirl1: she went back down until 630/7
C busted out of her sleep sack and is up for a feeding at 1 am. So depressing considering DH was awake and banging around the house until 1130. Boo.
clementine / 824 posts
@travelgirl1: It depends. If I try the bottle after she's obviously hungry, she screams bloody murder. If I get it to her earlier, it's a bit better. She always does this silent gagging/choking thing the first few tries and will push the bottle away. It's almost like she doesn't know what to do with her tongue. It looks like she's trying to push it out (maybe to push the bottle away?) rather than pull it in to suck. There is still the question of whether or not she has a tongue tie, so perhaps this has something to do with it. I've tried Dr Brown's, Avent (both regular and wide, Tommee Tippee, and Medela. She seems to take to the Tommee Tippee or Medela the best. I've heard good things about Playtex Nursers, so I might go get one of these today. I also might try the latex nipple; I know some babies prefer these.
@MamaMoose: Yup, the daycare told me they couldn't confine them, so no swaddling. I'm not sure if it is just their own policy though. They said that she could be in a sleep sack, but the arms would have to be out.
clementine / 824 posts
@scg00387: If I remember right, you once said that you use the woombie. Do you recommend? And if so, does it run true to size? Em is close around 11.5 lbs and 23". It looks like newborn goes to 14lbs.

I go back to work on 2/18! I can't believe that's just over 4 weeks away. TIME FLIES!!!
I already work from home one day a week, will ask for a second officially when I go in for a visit with A in a couple of weeks. My mom will be here every day M-F so I'm hoping it's not an issue.
A has been consistently doing 2 - 4-6 hour stretches at night time. We've been swaddling him again the last week (we haven't swaddled him since week 2 or so) and I think he's past the growth spurt... but just can't figure out the key to get him to get past the six hour mark. So I'm just letting him tell me when he's ready. We don't put him down for the night until 9 or 10. He's been catnapping for DH all day today.
I've been having lower back pain and had some disc issues in my hip so I went to the chiro for an adjustment and got a massage afterwards too. Body is melted right now.
@highwire: no PP bleeding since week 5 or so.
Just in general - do you all swaddle your babes and what do you use regularly? also - do they cry when they wake up because they're arms aren't free?
We've got the halo sleepsack, miracle blanket, and A+A Russian Swaddle style in rotation. He usually naps without a swaddle, but I'll A+A swaddle him if he won't stay down long. We've also used a rolled up towel (in the horseshoe shape) underneath the pnp and crib sheets to give him a lil more comfort sleeping on flat surfaces.
Tonight -- I have to somehow fit grocery shopping, cooking dinner, and HB postathoning in! Thank goodness DH is off work today!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mrsjyw: Unless he spontaneously fell asleep on one of us, he is swaddled for naps and nights. We go between a Halo Sleepsack and a Swaddleme. At night he usually only cries if he is hungry, or has a burp stuck. We've never gotten past 6 hours or so; which honestly doesn't bother me. He acts like he's starving once he is up so I figure that's how it'll be for a while until he surprises us!
@SLR We were given one and used it the first week. I can't IMAGINE putting it on him now - the neck was so tight once he was over 8 lbs. Maybe he is just a chunk? If you wanted to try it, I'd buy from Amazon so you could return.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@mrsjyw: that is so awesome your mom will be there watching him!
I swaddle her at night and for naps. Otherwise she constantly wakes herself. We were having luck with the miracle blanket, but recently she started to get her hand free. So then I tried a a & a swaddle on top of that. Tonight I'm trying a halo swaddle sack for the first time...
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@mrsjyw: I go back on 2/18 also. Tear.
C is only swaddled at night. Her daytime naps are while we are put and about in her carseat. We are out of the house almost all day everyday.
