Anyone's LOs growing out of their newborn sized sleep sacks? Was hoping they would last a little longer. Id rather not have to re invest in a whole supply of them on bigger sizes

@highwire: Thank you : ) I don't feel very strong though, I've bawled my face off for many days - including while breastfeeding, without a cover, in a hospital food court, which kind of got me over the embarrassment of public nursing, lol. I'm terrified I'll cry when they fit her in the harness, just when she needs me to be strong for her. But it's a learning curve, being a mum doesn't come with a handbook : )

    @travelgirl1: Best of luck tomorrow!

@highwire: Yup, she outgrew them in length. I picked up three in the larger size. 2 cotton, 1 fleece - Not sure why I got the fleece though...I feel like she gets too warm with a sleeper under the fleece. BRU had them buy one get one 1/2 off.

@MamaMoose: LO is 7 weeks on Thurs and probably around 9-9.5lbs. she fits newborn clothes perfectly right now. i'm starting to break out some of the 0-3 month and 3 month clothes. still big on her but not too bad.

@highwire loving the smiles and new noises, cooing is fun to hear!

Feeling like I have a giant baby after reading other babies sizes!

@MamaMoose: I was a tiny baby and am. a petite adult... Guess he's taking after DH! Hoping the new pediatrician also believes you can't overfeed an ebf baby or I'm in for a lecture!!

Baby went down at 8 pm and stayed in her room mostly asleep until just now, at nearly 5 am. Amazing. Oh she's also 10 lbs and 6 weeks old today. Woohoo!

  12. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@highwire: Yay! Is she in a crib now?

@scg00387: You're not the only one wondering about overfeeding! My little porker has put on about 5lbs since birth (she's 7 weeks today). She was 6.11 when she was born and was up to 11 - 11.5 lbs a few days back.

We've been out of NB clothes for a couple weeks now. I'm still confused by 0-3M vs. 3M clothes. She's wearing a combo of both. Some are still a little too big and others are already getting short.

Sooo...with some hesitation, we brought back the bassinet last night and put the basket part in her crib. Seemed to do the trick at least for last night (maybe it was a one time fluke?). She slept 6 hours and wasn't even crying when I got up to feed her at 3:30am. We do have quite the contraption going though - it's the P&P bassinet pad inside a regular bassinet basket inside of her crib.

I hate to take steps back by not sticking with the crib, and I also know we can't get away with this for long though since she's about to outgrow the P&P bassinet in length. But hey, for a few nights...I might just have to take it if it gets me a few more zzz's.

I think she likes the closeness of it; it keeps her from squirming around like she does when she's in the open crib (her squirming also makes her spit up).

@SLR: Do you swaddle her when she's in the crib?

  14. SLR

    clementine / 824 posts

@ChelseaRose: Yep - she still just wiggles all over, I think trying to break free of it. She is usually in the halo sleepsack swaddle, but we've tried the swaddle me and miracle blanket too. I tried laying her down once unswaddled to see how that would go, but no luck.

@SLR: my LO is also a little porker... 7 weeks tomorrow and if I had to guess, about 12 lbs. I feed her every three hours and once at night so I don't think she's overeating.

    @highwire: Yay! That's so exciting!

  16. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@SLR: my LO wiggles and spits in the crib too!! So frustrating because we had her in there no problem for a while. But now she does huge spit ups whenever she's in there!

  17. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@SLR: similar to you guys. She sleeps in her bouncer since it cradles her well. And we stick the bouncer in her crib

She's STILL sleeping. 12 hours strong with just that one wakeup at 5am. If all her growth spurts mean extra sleep, I am totally on board

We are going to see a Cry Baby Matinee at the movie theater today! They provide a changing table, keep the lights up, and babies are welcome! Invited my mom to join and we are seeing Parental Guidance with Bette Midler/Billy Crystal. Very excited!

The cry baby matinee was great! Lots of ladies and babies. A few girls from my breastfeeding support group were there and LO behaved wonderfully!

@highwire: thanks for asking. It was pretty traumatic. She screamed her head off because they had to put her in painful positions to properly assess her. DH had to hold her down, she was crying too hard to take her soother so both A and I were crying all the way through. We won't get the results until we see the doctor on Friday. Honestly, it felt like my heart was being ripped out. I need to get some super-sized strength from somewhere for Friday.

we moved LO to her crib and her own room a few nights ago and her sleep just hasn't been the same since! she was sleeping 8-10 hours straight and now its down to 6 hours, wake, followed by 4 hours. i mean i know i shouldn't complain, but i got used to the 8-10 hours and now i'm hoping every night that it'll start going back to that and it hasn't. i'm going to do some reading on sleep training soon. i don't think i can function properly at my job without a full night's sleep.

    how's everyone else doing?

  28. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@travelgirl1: omg. I'm do sorry you and baby had to go through that! @JessLC: I'm getting one 5 hour stretch followed by one three hour stretch. I guess I could try to just sooth her in the night and not immediately feed her, but I feel like she's hungry! Maybe I'll wait until 12 weeks to see if she'll sleep longer.

  29. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@JessLC: we are dealing with the same thing trying to transition M back to her crib. In the RnP she was doing 7 hours then 4 hours. Last night in the crib she did 5 hours then 3 hours. I feel like a zombie today!!

  30. SleepyMonkey

    grapefruit / 4006 posts

@kml636: yeah, i think LO is hungry when she wakes up so i just feed her. she won't go back to sleep otherwise. i think i'm going to wait until 12 weeks to try sleep training if her sleep doesn't improve over the next week and a half. hopefully its just a transition period.

@MamaMoose: i keep wanting to go back to what we used to use (her uppababy bassinet) when she was getting 8-10 hours but 1) i feel like it just gets harder to transition to the crib the older they get and i might as well do it now while i'm on mat leave than try when i've already gone back to work and 2) her head has literally left a dent in the bassinet cushion and under the cushion is a metal rod (why they placed it there, i have no idea) so i don't want her to have a funny head shape because i selfishly wanted more sleep at night!

i'm downloading white noise from itunes today, i hope it helps. we haven't used it at all since she was born. also, she broke out of her miracle blanket twice last night. i made sure to do it extra tight the second time and she still woke up with one arm out and one leg out. she has also started moving on her own...she was halfway down the crib this morning!

@JessLC: I'm starting to worry about not being able to swaddle soon he busts out at night too!weve always been in the crib and never gotten better than five and three so I am no help ha!

Instead of putting him right back down after his second wake up around six thirty we played and then napped at eight. I'm exhausted but it was all we could think of to help start getting him down earlier! We cannot figure him out haha

@scg00387: I'm having problems getting her down earlier at night too! We are at a 9pm bedtime right now but would love to get it up to 7/730. I read that to do that, you have to start the day earlier which is tough for me! 8am is the earliest I wake up without feeling groggy. I also read that before 3 months it is common for babies to have later bedtimes because they nap so Much during the day.

@highwire: @SLR: @ChelseaRose: @JessLC: @kml636: @scg00387: Thank you all so much. She's a little star, I know she will be brave through it. To give DH his credit, he has been amazing. We may have had our differences over how to bring up a baby (he thinks I need to put her down more, lol) but he has been a rock through this. I am SO glad I'm not going through this without him.

In terms of her normal baby activity, she's doing great. Lots of smiling and interaction during the day - she loves playing with us, especially when we sing to her. We put her in her crib on Monday night and she loves it! She sleeps so well in there, and loves just kicking around and giggling at the animals on the mobile when she wakes up. I love seeing her kick her little legs. She won't be able to do that for months now, so we're letting her enjoy it while she can. We're trying to work on earlier bedtimes but that inevitably means earlier mornings. And after weeks of weird green diapers, we're back to yellow. No idea why but I much prefer it, lol.

It seems everyone on here is much happier now we're all a month or two in, and struggling a lot less. Aren't they so lovely when they start smiling and interacting more? Heart melt!

@travelgirl1: yes, definitely feeling worlds better now that we are getting into a little groove. prepared for another challengijg time when i head back to work but for now im just trying to enjoy our time together, and glad i feel well enoigh to do so

@travelgirl1: yes two weeks after I delivered, I couldn't possibly imagine having another baby! It was so hard and I was so overwhelmed. But now I love it! She is so incredibly cute and being a mother is really fun. I mean there are still some tough parts but seeing her smile and light up when she sees me is seriously so amazing.

@kml636: thanks! Do you just leave your phone in her room when she sleeps and put it on high volume?

  38. kodybear

    pear / 1616 posts

@travelgirl1: so sorry you have to go through that!! hope friday goes well!

@JessLC: man i'd love 8-10 hour stretch, just for 1 night at least! heh LO is doing about 6 hour stretch then a 4 hour stretch. still better than the 3-4 hour stretches we had the first month. but mama is still tired! as for breaking out of the miracle blanket have you tried to double swaddle? like using an a&a blanket on the outside? i think i read one of the HB bloggers posts about it and so i started doing it. maybe that would help?

is anyone else as lucky as i am and get their period already?! boo i got it today at 7 weeks! so sad. good news is that my boss said i could take vacation after my maternity leave. i'm going to take 3 more weeks off after the 12 weeks so 15 weeks! exciting but its going by so fast. already almost halfway done

  39. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@JessLC: well I actually use the Aden & a aid serenity star sound machine in her room. I use the iPhone app in the car and if she refuses to nap we use it for naps in the swing, pack and play, Etc. it really works great because you can make it loud!

@MamaMoose: Does your LO fuss a lot after nursing? For the past couple days, mine has had crying fits after feeding. She's obviously hungry, will nurse for 4-5 minutes, get sleepy for a second, and then burst out crying. She's also been spitting up a whole lot more in the past couple days than she has in a while. She's had a few occasions where she's refluxed and then got hysterical. I'm wondering if it's getting worse and causing more frequent pain. Does yours do this?
