Have my 6 week PP check up tomorrow...and I'm due for a pap so they are just going to do it then. Ugh.

How are you ladies doing in terms or recovery? I feel pretty much back to normal except I'm still bleeding a little (finally graduated down to panty liners today instead of pads). And tmi alert, I don't feel very....fresh? I can't wait to be off all pads/liners completely. I feel like things down there would be a lot nicer if my lady parts could 'breathe' throughout the day.

And I'd like to get back in the saddle with DH but am not ready until this issue is resolved lol

@SLR: spitting doesn't upset her but she definitely does the nurse, sleep, cry, nurse, sleep, cry routine. Nursing makes their reflux feel better in the moment (breast milk is a natural antacid) but over eating makes them feel worse in the end... So I think sometimes they can't decide if they want more or not.

@highwire: I was the same way and really uncomfortable from always using something. Sounds gross but I sucked it up and just went without and threw away underwear for a day or two and bleeding stopped completely.

No clue how y'all are going out every day. Survived my pediatrician appt by myself but felt seriously pathetic limping across the parking lot with the caraway and my diaper bag. I'm apparently the biggest wimp ever and couldn't stop sweating which was disgusting! Of course little guy woke up each time after the car turned off... Twenty minute naps are no fun!

You all are getting some awesome nighttime sleep. On a good night I get 2,4,2 - and we usually start our day around 6:30. Still co-sleeping, but have graduated from the living room couch to the spare bedroom. I'm going to do the crib and some kind of sleep training when we hit 12 weeks. He's still not 10 lbs yet, so I'm not stressing about it.

6 week exam is today. My mom was supposed to be here to watch him while I went, but she has a cold, so stated home. Dreading an appointment with him in tow - not very easy to sooth him while I'm lying on an exam table.

@Mrs. Tricycle: I held my LO during my exam and pap... A little awkward but my midwife was nice about it. She wouldn't stop fussing and I had her there by myself. Hope it goes ok for you!

@travelgirl1: you go mama! And A is a star! Thinking of you both for good results!

Feel back to normal besides the weight. I started doing workout dvds but need to start being conscious of overeating too. No bleeding since week four or five. Def extra discharge. Tried to sexy time but was a bit uncomfortable...taking it slowwwly.

Im in the crib / pnp ruined our sleep camp. We've gotten him baxk in the swaddled camp and he can sleepon flat surfaces in both the crib and pnp but our nighttime sleep ia consistently 3-5 hr stretches nothing longer... at 7 wks, id guess he's well over 12 lbs..

On a good note,.I survived the 6 wk growth spurt and being on my own. Yest we went grocery shoppubg and a slept the whole time even got a green tea latte at the instore sbux!

My moms been over 1x a wk to give me a night of uninterruptrd sleep which again is so helpful... tonight I'm on night duty then tom night will be dh hoooooray for the wknd!

Soo jealous of all your long sleep stretches!!! Since the moment LO turned 8 weeks she has been sleeping 5 hrs then waking up every hour/2 hrs until 7am....one thing we have been doing differently is putting her to bed earlier like 730, as she seems tired then but maybe the early bedtime is making her wake up earlier bc she is hungry?? No clue but I'm soooo tired....maybe it's a growth spurt or could be bc she is stuffy and congested

@highwire: yay! As of my appt last week, i had lost 28 of 38 lbs. I had some extra to lose before then, too though.

@highwire: Nothing for now. Either the good ole' pull and pray or condoms. I might get a prescription for the mini pill when I go back in March for my annual. I was on the fence at my 6 week appt.

@highwire: I am still vacillating on birth control. I have the mini pill but haven't taken it. Nervous about milk supply issues. I'm going to try the tshirt trick too! @SLR: I would use the pull n pray but I know someone who got pregs on that and it freaks me out! I think I'd be taking a preg test every day.

Had my 6 week check today.. no nurses offered to play with my baby boy! Ugh he was so mad that he knew I was there and couldn't immediately tend to him when he cried! I was way too nervous to hold his wiggly self on the table. I have to have scar tissue removed on Monday... hoping that is the last time I have my feet in the stirrups for a while

    Hi ladies!

Ariela had her appointment today. Her right hip has actually gotten a little better since Christmas, but her left is still dislocated. The hospital in Toronto is very good and the doctor (who was British too so could understand our accents, alway a good start, lol) was fab. He said in his opinion the harness will work (75% chance) and that they'll know by week three whether it is working. If it isn't they'll take it off and operate, but he is optomistic. They'll do ultrasounds every week too and check her harness straight after. She cried while they put her in the harness but to be honest I cried more, and she was easily soothed when we picked her up. She's very clingy and is sleeping a lot today, then she wakes up and tries to kick her legs and realises she can't and cries again... hopefully though she'll get used to it over the weekend. She looks like a little starfish, bless her, but we can still cuddle really well because her legs kind of grip our sides and she lies flat against us. We've breastfed twice already (thank goodness, because she flat out refuses a bottle) so I know we'll be able to make that work. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that we fall into that 75% and between three and six months of the harness is all she needs. Thanks for all your support in the last few weeks : )

LO is seeming way hungrier from this growth spurt I'm guessing. I always nurse, give a bottle of pumped if I have it, and then so formula at the end of the session. But today she starts screaming as we are switching between things. And she's been eating non stop nearly!

And DH had his wisdom teeth out on Friday so he needs a lot of help. My MIL was here for the weekend but she just left. I am exhausted!! Hope LO sleeps again tonight but the last two nights she's been up a bunch.

    @kml636: Thanks so much : )

@highwire: She's doing really well, thanks so much for asking. She screamed her heart out on Friday night but then on Saturday morning had seemed to accept it, which was sad itself because it was like she lost some of her sparkle. Today though, her sparkly eyes are back and we're having lots of smiles and giggles from our little superstar. Cuddling her is like cuddling a koala, the way her legs grip your sides, and she's just so brave, I'm beyond proud of her. I'm making a big effort to play with her a lot and touching her where the brace isn't, so things like singing Head Shoulders Knees and Toes and figuring out where there are gaps in the harness near those parts and touching her as we sing and she LOVES that. The things we're still getting used to are diaper changes (sooo hard!!!) and we haven't figured out how we're going to wash her hair yet and the girl has a ton of it! Very proud of her.

@highwire: Thank you so much : ) It's a joy to be her mummy, the way she's handled it is so inspiring so I'm trying to focus on keeping a smile on her face and dealing with the rest of it week by week in her checkups.

@travelgirl1: You sound like such a strong mama going through all of this with your little girl. She is lucky to have you taking care of her. I hope the harness works and she doesn't need more invasive treatment.

@highwire: is there anyone else who can help and give you a break? Your mom? Any friends? Growth spurts are rough.

How do you all juggle grocery shopping with a baby? So far I've only gone shopping while my husband or my mom watch the baby at home. I feel kinda lame that I haven't taken him to the store with me in the ten weeks since he's been born. I refused to put the car seat in the front part of the cart (it is really not designed for that and completely unsafe), if I put the car seat in the big part of the cart then there is no room for groceries. I've considered putting him in the stroller and just using one of the small baskets that you carry on your arm. I know the logical answer is to wear him and then do my shopping. He doesn't always like being in a carrier and I can't decide when the best time would be to do it. Should I take him right after he's eaten and is his most happy and active or should I wait until he's more tired and might fall asleep? What has worked for you all?

@travelgirl1: such a strong spirit! A will undoubtedly thrive w your undying support through this!!

@ChelseaRose: went grocery shopping last wk for the first time w carseat in the big part and managed to stuff a lot of groceries in it! Then at checkout the bagger put all the groceries in a second cart which was super helpful! Pushed and pulled both carts and made it out!

Between the shopping trip and todays outing to my bffs baby shower....I felt normal n confident that I could manage baby outside! A was perrrrfect today! Fell asleep on the way to the shower in a busy rest, slept for 1.5 hours, had one dipe change, a bottle and playtime! Made it through almost all of it. Then left because my boobs were engorged n I didn't bring my pump. A fell asleep on the ride back and kept napping after! Bliss!! He also had two 5.5 hour stretches last night. Glorious! Keeping my fingers crossed...

@travelgirl1: You're doing great mama! Glad to hear things are looking up.

@ChelseaRose: The only time I took her to the grocery store was very much a mini trip. I filled up the bottom of the stroller and the basket I carried. I was surprised how much I was able to fit though!

  36. MamaMoose

    GOLD / squash / 13464 posts

@ChelseaRose: I just put her in the cart and squish things around her. But I usually only shop for like three days worth of food at a time. Our store also has carts with infant seats attached to the front. My LO is only 7 weeks but once she has a little better neck control I will pop her in that.

Thanks for the responses. Maybe I will try putting him in the baby K'tan or the car seat in the big part or the cart. I guess the worst thing that can happen is that he gets upset and I put the groceries down and leave the store.

I think mostofyou have mentioned loosely following eASY - how do you transition to night sleep? We've roughly been doing wake up, nurse and burp for maybe 20 mins, diaper change, play until we're close to an hour/baby show sleep signs, swaddle, and sleep. He's sticking to 30 minute naps and then we reboot- so he's eating every two hours, roughly, during the day. Our trouble comes at night- we do a bath before bed but were never sure how to proceed at night. We do a bath before bed; but have both let him stay up and fuss for longer than an hour before bath and have tried just putting him down for another nap. No clear results either way.

That was way too long. Basically, do you keep baby awake longer at night on purpose or follow their cues and let them decide naturally when longer stretches if sleep start?

Regardless of sleep length, after bath (roughly 7-8 pm) until morning wakeup (roughly 7-8 am) we keep it dark for any wakings and don't play, etc.

Last night he popped up to feed a half hour and then an hour later... Thought he'd do the same to ought so I stayed up but he's stayed asleep over an hour so far.

    Baby sleep stresses me out!!!
