Thanks ladies. No the doctor was not positive. I was tracking my period and I got a positive opk so I am fairly certain about my dates. Based on what they saw I would have to be over a week off. I can't do an HCG draw because levels may still be rising even though there is no baby. So we are waiting a week and will do another scan.

@T.H.O.U.: Sorry to hear that. How are you feeling?
I was a bit over a week off with my first and we used a loose version of NFP, we'd avoided getting pregnant for years though and got pregnant our first cycle not avoiding certain days so I feel like we must have had a fairly good idea but were still off.

I had an appointment with a nutritionist at the health department today, and I've lost five pounds since I found out I was pregnant (about two weeks ago). I haven't been trying to lose weight but have been trying to make healthier choices, so I was pretty pleased! They told me to aim for a weight gain of 11-20 pounds, so being -5 is a good place to be. Just wanted to share.

@Cara M. 17: What kind of midwife are you going to? I wanted to find a home birth midwife but it didn't work out with my insurance, so I'm going to a nurse midwife at the hospital.

I haven't made my appointment yet. I'll call next week but I have to decide if I want to stay with my midwife or switch to a different practice. My midwife only delivers at the hospital I worked at and I didn't like a lot of the labor nurses there so I'm not sure if I want them seeing my hooha. Ha! I would like a tub birth tho and I can only do that there. Decisions decisions!

@DigAPony: Sounds like you are doing well with your weight! I have been so hungry these last couple weeks but I am definitely eating more healthy so I hope this helps me too! I am seeing a certified nurse midwife that delivers at the hospital I feel most comfortable in. This is my first pregnancy so I would like to deliver in the hospital, but feel my chances of medical interventions will hopefully be less with a CNM.

I fiiiinally go in for my first appointment tomorrow at 10:00. Kind of excited (though I'm not sure what for...there isn't any heartbeat/ultrasound or anything)...kind of terrified! I'm seeing my OB/GYN that I've seen for awhile now. I was going to go the midwife route at the hospital, but really didn't find one I clicked with. I'm also a worrier, so I figured I'd just cover all of my bases in case (gawd-forbid) something happens. I DO want to do a waterbirth at the hospital though, and my OB is totally in on that, so that's cool.

    We'll see what happens!

@ms.janedoe: me too! That's why I want to stay with my current midwife -I'd love a water birth!

@ms.janedoe: I am so jealous you can have a water birth! I am able to labor in the tub at our hospital, but not have an actual water birth.

@Cara M. 17: Sounds like we are on the same page re: as few medical interventions as possible.

@ms.janedoe: @Ash: My goal is also a water birth! The birthing suites at the hospital here have nice big tubs.

@MrsTiz: Congrats! Glad you can relax a bit.

I just had a nurse's appointment today and was really pleasantly surprised. A lot of people prefer a different hospital but the one I went to seemed pretty laid back and the nurse I talked to was very supportive about still breastfeeding while pregnant. There was a bit of confusion about the ultrasound, which wasn't scheduled though I had been told it had, but they still found me a spot on friday, I just have to wait for the drs appointment until tuesday instead of right after. Kind of stinks because the ultrasound is at a diff time and my husband had been planning on coming and I'd lined up a babysitter, but ah well, hopefully DH can still come.

Just got done with my appointment...2 hours later... Lots of questions, bloodwork, poking/prodding, and an ultrasound for 2 weeks from now!

I was a little ticked off--both the nurse and doctor were SO confused about my last period date (December 26th). I kept telling them I charted (had a copy) and ovulated on February 18th. The nurse was like, "Yeah, but we need to know your last period date to calculate your EDD." DUDE, you CAN'T use that, it was in DECEMBER. She was all, "So you really think you're 3 months pregnant then?!" NO. Are you stupid?

Then the doctor came in and was asking the same questions so I showed her my chart and she made a comment that, "we typically don't like charting because it's so unreliable and doesn't show anything..." Then after reviewing it she was like, "well...yeah, I guess this one is pretty good...yeah, I'd probably have to agree that the 18th is when you ovulated..." BOOM.

Anyway, it went really well and I'm super excited for the ultrasound in a few weeks! I think we're going to go ahead and tell our parents this weekend and next weekend regardless, but NO ONE else until much later.
