@anbanan15: I ep now... He just wasn't transferring enough. We're all happy now. I pump every 2-3hrs (4 at night since that's what he sleeps). So far so good.

Anyone who supplements or uses formula exclusively want any similac or enfamil checks? I have a few that expire soon and I'm not using them.

Hey guys :). Typing 1 handed while I nurse so forgive typos.
Today is my first day completely on my own! Not gonna lie, I'm a little terrified, lol. DH was technically working last Thursday and Friday, but there was a storm so he worked from home and was still able to help a little. And I cant just laze around the house all day because our cleaning people are coming this afternoon. I'm going to try grocery shopping on my own. Wish me luck!
For diapers, we're currently still using sposies since we're dealing with thrush. And I'm not sure I really like the cloth ones I picked out :-/.
For baths, we're trying to do them every night to be consistent and because they tire him out. He doesn't love them, but he tolerates them as long as we put either a big wash cloth or a hand towel on top of him and keep pouring warm water on it.

Guess which 5 week-old slept from 9:30 to 6:30 last night???? Maybe it's just a fluke, but I'll take it!

@ShootingStar: which diapers did you pick out that your not digging?
@Ash: Good job mama and baby! Keep up the good work.

@anbanan15: i got fitteds and inserts, kinda like flips, but from thirsties. The fitteds get so wet all over i feel bad having them on his skin. And his poo is just way too liquidy for the inserts :-(.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ShootingStar: I ended up hating my cloth (BG Freetimes) and almost gave up on cloth diapering until I tried gDiapers. They are sized so they are trimmer and she doesn't get wet all over like with prefolds and the BG. I still use inserts and the Thirsties covers right now but will move exclusively to the gDiapers once she's too big for the Thirsties covers.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@ShootingStar: That was EXACTLY my issue when we very briefly tried fitteds with DS. I hated them for that reason. I don't get how so many people love them and are fine with urine chilling out on their child's waistline (I know so many swear by them as a nighttime solution, which is what we tried them for and they were super soaked by morning and his skin damp).
Could you trade them in or test out a different system before giving up on cloth?

@lilteacherbee: Glad you called!
Got back from our appointment, glad it's over! No, it went well overall! She's SO healthy! She's grown about 4.5ish" (18.8" at birth, now 23"), weighs 11 pounds, 12.8 ounces (about 6 ounces more since last Tuesday (what?!),and her head is still in the 97th percentile at 16". Haahaha. We got some flack for having her in bed and the doctor wants us to get her in her room and able to fall asleep on her own soon, but wasn't tooooo preachy, so that was nice.
Shots were awful, but it was way worse for me. The initial jump/scream cry sucked, but she calmed down quick and now has two shiny bandaids to show for it! She doesn't seem too bothered yet, @Ash: do you know if the tDap shot makes them achy like it does for adults (at injection site)? Glad we're home though, it was cold! DH heads out tonight through Friday so I might try putting LO in her RnP this week and see how it goes!
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@FarmWifeGina: Nice!!! I'm hoping to get a long stretch out of LO this week by not having her in bed with me (where it's way too easy to snack all night long!).
@avivoca: Are the freetimes like the BG 4.0s at all? We're using those and I like them, but I can see how the wets could travel up high in front (also, totally creepy, but I follow your Oct. board religiously to see what's in store next for us--your little H is so cute!!).
@ShootingStar: Good job, lady! I haven't braved shopping alone yet, you kick ass!

Caroline slept from about 12:30-7:30 only waking up for a quick couple minutes to eat and be changed! I think it's because we went back to our old routine of sleeping out on the couch-- basically it's like we're cosleeping but not in the grown up bed- she always sleeps a little better when we're out there.... I'm not sure how I'm going to transition her into sleeping with out me next to her, in her cradle in our bedroom.... she really doesn't like it in there. I may have to make hubby sleep on the couch for a few nights so I can try to work on it with her while he still gets some sleep
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ms.janedoe: Freetimes are AIO diapers, so the flaps are attached in the front and back. H is a heavy wetter so that contributes to it, plus they were pretty bulky with the two flaps. And thanks, I think she's pretty cute too!
honeydew / 7909 posts
@ms.janedoe: way to grow Harper! As for the dtap, I'm not 100%, but since they both have tetanus in them, I would think they'd make the muscle sore.
Oh, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my bg freetimes! More than the 4.0s.
@ShootingStar: I hated the fitteds. Only used them 3x and ditched them but I love the aios I have! Definitely recommend. Although I do love my sposies still!

@ms.janedoe: Glad your baby girl is nice and healthy, and that the shots weren't too bad. I was wondering if babies are as sore as adults with the shots, but Reagan hasn't had any indication of any soreness. She didn't poo for three days afterwards, but that was probably just a coincidence.
persimmon / 1386 posts
It's getting real that I will be going back to work in 2 weeks. I went by Reagan's daycare today to drop off paperwork and introduce her to her teachers. It was fine; about how you would expect a room of 6 babies under a year and two teachers. There will actually be 10 babies and 3 teachers in the class, but some were out today. Three just turned a year and are moving out while there are two other newborns scheduled to come in within a month of Reagan.
I mean I knew that obviously she is going to get less attention at daycare than she gets with me. But it was still kinda sad to see babies hanging out by themselves while the teachers were playing with others. They were by no means neglectful, there is just no way one person can me interacting with 3-4 babies at once.
Two weeks from today is going to be a rough day....
GOLD / kiwi / 605 posts
@NeekieRose: going back to work and using daycare would be pretty tough- I count my lucky stars I have family available and close by-- I don't think we could afford daycare in anycase--
Regardless, I am still not looking forward to going back-- tomorrow would have been my first day back if it wasn't for me deciding to take an extra month off... as tired and stir crazy as I get sometimes, I sure wish I could be a SAHM sometimes
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@NeekieRose: Hugs!! I used to work at daycares and I would always volunteer to go in the infant room if they needed someone because I love me some babies! You're right, they don't always get attention all the time, BUT if it's a good daycare, they will put teachers in the baby rooms who enjoy them. The days I was in the infant rooms, I was always exhausted when I left work, but it was fun! I'm sure Miss Reagan will be with people who care about her
@Mrs. Pink: Amen! We couldn't do daycare costs either without seriously cutting back on many things! That's what happens when both parents are teachers in a state that pays them crap DH is looking into going into school admin in a few years...maybe I can stay home with the next baby. I'm so thankful that my mom will be watching Nathan

I went into the LC today and she said M doesn't have thrush in her mouth! But it is likely on my nipples and she's starting to get a diaper rash. my prescription for APNO will be ready tomorrow and I can't wait. I've been so sore!
And, she's up to 11 lbs 9 oz which means 9 oz gained since Friday! Everyone keeps commenting on how big she is.
Cloth diapers - we're having our best luck with AMP sized pocket diapers but we usually put the insert on top rather than stuff it. She's still in disposables at night because I'm paranoid about changing her sleep routine, hah.

Ugh, last night/tonight/whatever has been a mess. LO napped until about 7:15ish in the carrier. I didn't know what to do because she needed to nap bad around 5:30, so I let her. But then it was a mess trying to get her down because she wasn't super tired! I haven't seen her this fussy at night in a looong time, so maybe it was the shots? It took forever, and she was pissed the entire time.
I'm thinking starting tomorrow I'm going to try to get her back in her RnP. I timed tonight so far and were up about every 2 hours. I mean, yes, up for literally a couple minutes tops while I jam boob in her mouth and fall back asleep, but still. I know she doesn't need to eat that much and if she isn't literally laying on my boob, she's probably keep sleeping.
Anyway, she had a massive poop so I'm nursing her in the nursery now and hoping she'll go back down quickly...and then sleep for a few hours at least!!
@MrsDragon: APNO is awesome. So happy you don't have a serious mess of thrush!

@ms.janedoe: eek. Sorry lady. We keep Ollie in the bassinet by the bed so I feel like I still have the convenience without him smelling me too much... At 12:30a when he woke up, I was just able to reswaddle and add the paci without feeding... It was amazing. Doing our first feed now after going to bed at 10p
Returning to work is getting real...less than 5 weeks left, yikes. We have done phone interviews with 6 nannies and are meeting the two final candidates in person this week. The response I received from the care.com posting was almost overwhelming... 40+ applicants. Wow
honeydew / 7909 posts
@ChitownRo: wow, that's great!
I have 7 weeks left and I'm already dreading it even though I only work 2 - 12s.
So last night's feedings must've exhausted me! C gets up
every 4hrs to eat and then I pump but last night I fell asleep so I went 6.5hrs between pumping. Talk about sore this morning!

We had a doctors visit yesterday due to some chronic diarrhea/lose stools. She is fine. I was just told basically not to eat anything (duh). She is gaining well, up to 11 lb 1 oz.
I was thinking about starting a thread on the allergy/intolerance board to update with my diet, recipes, resources and/or symtoms incase someone else has to go through such an extreme diet since it more of an elimination than milk/soy...do you ladies think that would be helpful? I expect I would mainly be talking to myself most of the time lol.
Also if anyone is interested in getting more BG AIO's there were limited quantities of the old style BG elemental a produced and Cotton Babies did this thing where they reduced the priced daily until $17.95 ($7 off plus cottonbabies.com is always free shipping) and now there is just a few colors left at that price point. They are a little different from the freetimes (I think mainly the insert is sewn in on both ends instead of flaps), but the price point is awesome!

Just wanted to share...
Yesterday, ds was fussy so I found a pandora station called 'rockabye baby!' And it totally calmed him down. He just fell asleep to green day!

I'm going back to work next Tuesday and I've already been crying over it I have this irrational fear that he's going to think I've abandoned him and then he'll forget that I'm his mama.
I know I'm lucky for several reasons, I guess I should just focus on those. My mom and grandma will be keeping him and thats the next best thing apart from DH and I. They love him so much and we've spent a lot of time with them so he knows them. I only work 7 hour days, so including drop off/pick up, I'll leave the house at 8:15 and be back with him by 4:15ish. And best of all, I'll have the summer off. I may work part time, but that's it.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@lilteacherbee: that's my fear too. I hold ds a lot and it's because I don't want him to feel unloved.

Holy shitty night... Totally my fault, but ugh. I decided to try and get LO back in her RnP and out of our bed now, before it gets tougher. I think I chose the worst possible night, as mom and sister were over all day and totally overstimulated LO and she literally didn't nap all day (it was awful). When they left, she finally went down until 6:30, but was out again by 7:00...so I just went with it and plopped her in the RnP. She was up about every 45 minutes to an hour (sleep cycles...) until about 11:30ish when she wanted to eat. Then she didn't want to go back down at all, so I caved and crashed in bed with her.
That didn't go any better and we were both up all night long until about 6-7 this morning. Yawn. Hoping tonight goes better. We've gotten a few good naps in so far, so that should help, and maybe bedtime will be a more reasonable hour. It'd also be nice if I could freaking relax and not look over at every little peep! Anyway, better to do it now than a few months from now, right?
Heading in to officially tell my boss I don't plan on coming back...that should be interesting!

@ms.janedoe: We had a crappy night last night too. D usually goes to sleep pretty good after his bath, but it took him an extra hour +. Then he was up a half hour later, after I'd fallen asleep. He's never done that before :-/. I pulled him into bed and then was up with him from 3:30 to 5. Then at 5:30 up again! I managed to get him to sleep some more on and off from 7-9, but I'm dragging today. Luckily he just took a nice 2 hour nap.
I never made it to the grocery store on Monday, but we're going to try once I finish feeding him. I'm going to try wearing him in my Beco. Hopefully this isn't a total fail.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@ms.janedoe: good luck! As someone with an almost 3 year old who still co-sleeps I can say it never gets easier on us to transition them (emotionally), but I agree with your statement of transitioning her sooner rather than later. There is no end in sight to DS sleeping and taking over 3/4 of the bed!
honeydew / 7909 posts
@ShootingStar: good luck mama! You're braver than I am - we're heading to the doc and I'm making dh come with.
blogger / clementine / 985 posts
@ms.janedoe: Me too!! The APNO seems to be making a bit of a difference but I still would like to feel a lot better than this. Good luck with telling your boss!
@Ash: I took M out by myself for the first time on Monday, and it was to the hospital so it was totally nervewracking! We survived but I was like damn, if I do anything stupid it's going to be in front of a bunch of medical professionals who all know what they're doing, hah.
I was going to go out to a baby and me class thing today but my arms and back are KILLING me from hauling that stupid car seat around. I can't wait until it's nicer out and she's bigger, and I can just pop her into a carrier and wear her. I didn't lift anything heavier than her for six weeks (my doctor instilled the post c-section fear in me, haha) and now my muscles are dead.

So tomorrow morning at 6:30am baby girl and I will be flying from DC all the way to southern California, by ourselves. My dad and two siblings are out there who have not met baby Reagan yet. It should be a good time, and I'm not *too* concerned about the flight, as baby girl is pretty good. Hopefully I won't eat those words tomorrow...has anyone traveled with their babies yet?
persimmon / 1386 posts
Sidenote- unbeknownst to me, slight "club foot" seems to run in both sides of mine and DH's family. My sister apparently had to wear special shoes, my BIL had to wear a cast for months, and DH thinks he might have had to wear special shoes.
So at the 2 month appointment the Dr. was a little concerned that baby girl stands on the side of her feet, not the bottoms. Said to go see an orthopedist and we would likely have to do some exercises.
Appointment was this morning. Reagan has full leg casts for the next week (the week that we are traveling to Cali by ourselves). This is supposed to be an easy fix. One week in casts and then special shoes for a little bit. But how heartbreaking is this:
coconut / 8472 posts
We survived :-). Shopping itself wasn't too bad, except it was nervewracking trying to get stuff on the bottom shelves. And they had a guy push the cart to my car and load it up. But getting him in and out of the carseat and the beco with the gold was a challenge. I feel super accomplished though, and sent DH this selfie cuz I'm a big dork.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@NeekieRose: Awe poor peanut! 1 week isn't so bad but awwww! Have a safe trip!
@ShootingStar: way to go! I hear ya on the bottom shelf stuff - when I wear ds in the k'tan I have a hard time picking stuff up!
Well, quick dr appt today to be told ds has colic.
He weighed in at 13.2lbs. Chunkaaaaa! Not starving here!
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@ShootingStar: Boo for a bad night. You look so great!! Congrats on the shopping trip! Haahha, I can just imagine the half bending over/half side squat to get something low.
@anbanan15: It's so tough!
@MrsDragon: good job on the outing! The first time is always terrifying, let alone to a hospital. Haahha, and I totally hear you on the car seat, we have a Toyota 4Runner and there's times I don't think I can lift it up and into it, seriously. Glad you're starting to feel better!
@NeekieRose: Good luck on the flight! It'll go great I'm sure. No experience yet, but we're going to Florida in April for a little get-away, so fingers crossed it'll go well! OMG, poor thing! At least it's only a week!! Does she seem to be bothered by them at all?
Tonight is going muuuuch better than last night. She had another craazy over the top day (again my fault) with way too little nap time, but I got her down at 8 in the RnP and she just wine up around 11:45. I'm hoping her stretches will get a liiiittle longer as we go on, but it's a good start! I'm nursing now so here's hoping we get another decent stretch!
Like I said, busy day again, we went to my work to show her off and have me quit, both of which went great! What a relief! Then we went to my friends house who lives close by. She has a one year old and a dog, both of which were LOUD! Poor LO again hadn't napped in way too long (45 min car ride each way, too) and was a little bit of a mess by the time we left. Luckily we have no plans for tomorrow except going to pick up DH from the airport. He's getting in a day early, which is good, but not landing until 9 at night, which is bad. I'm hoping she'll sleep in her car seat then I can "dream feed" when we get home and out her right down.
ETA: one picture after shots (and before a diaper change!), and one from her 9 week picture today!
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@Ash: oops, I missed you! Awww, he's a big boy, good job, momma!! Keep it up! He was diagnosed with colic?? How's that going for you all?
honeydew / 7909 posts
@ms.janedoe: oh my, look at that hair! And the leg rolls!
If it truly is colic, it isn't an extreme case. He just gets really really gassy at night and becomes inconsolable. Some nights are worse than others, naturally. Gripe water seems to help but she discouraged it. But I still want to give it over giving mylicon. Bad mommy.
