@sweetooth: What thrush meds would they put you on? The ped gave D some nystatin and told me to put it on my nipples too. Totally worked for me, but weeks later he still has a white tongue.

ETA: to answer your earlier question about the carrier - I got out of the car and put on the waist strap. Then i got in the backseat and took him out of the carseat and put him in the carrier. I secured the straps but didn't tighten (while in the car). I got out of the car, making sure to support him and quickly tightened the straps and covered the sides with arms and ran into the store. Inside the store I adjusted him more.

@sweetooth: Ohh no, I hope you both get soon!! Poor little guy

I go back to work Tuesday I. Don't. Wanna. Tomorrow is gonna be horrible because N has his 2 month appointment and shots....and I'm gonna cry about going back to work too. Thank God my mom is watching him when I go back and I get off work every day at 3:45. Trying to think positive

So I'm probably going to jinx myself, but it's 7:00 and we seem to have avoided the witching hour tonight! It's been like a week and a half since didn't have total meltdowns from 6-7.

I've had a ton of stuff to suddenly figure out because my maternity is quickly coming to an end. I have 2 more weeks of leave, and we're doing our trial day on Tuesday so I can go to a company meeting. All of a sudden I've had to figure out what needs to go to daycare, what to do about labeling stuff (all the clothes, sheets, bottles, etc. have to be labeled and bottles need dates), and what to do about pumping (pump into bags? bottles? how many times?), etc.

I still need to figure out pumping for Tuesday too. My meeting is from 10-12 offsite, and then there's a lunch back at our office and I'm going to go shopping after to pick up much needed work clothes that fit. I guess I can pump in the car before the meeting and hope no one sees me, and then I can use the mother's room at work, though it requires a pin and I have no idea how to get into it.

@sweetooth: LO has white on her tongue too, but the doctor never said anything about thrush and they examine her mouth each appointment. It's been like that the last two times she has gone.

@ash: We started using the ergo when DS was bigger and we use other carriers with M right now, so I don't have infant insert experience, but a know a lot of people use the towel/blanket trick. I'd say if you could get a good deal and may want it for future lo's get it, otherwise use a towel/blanket for now. He should still be legs in for awhile regardless of size/weight.

@Mrs. J: Ohhh looks like someone is having fun! Enjoy!

@ShootingStar: Over the weekend my left breast was rock hard so the LC said that the yeast infection was in my glands. If I could pump it might help, but my nipple is so inflamed that the thought of sucking it through a phalange just sounds like torture. I think she mentioned Diflucan? // E's tongue is clear, but his cheeks have a lot of white. // Thanks for the description of how you got the carrier on in the car. I think I'll give that a try, it makes a lot of sense how you described it. // And you're super smart to do a trial run. Can you get the pin number to the mother's room from your manager?

@lilteacherbee: Thank you! Good luck at your appt today. I have mine too since's E's 2 months was yesterday. Continue to think positive, I know this week will be tough for you, but you can do it!

@Mrs. J: Your family of three looks so happy and relaxed! Enjoy the warmth

@anbanan15: E's tongue is clear, but it's his cheeks that are white. It's hard because sometimes the residue can just be milk residue. And not all cases of thrush require meds. I think E and I are just not helping one another unless we both get treated.

@sweetooth: get better soon! I think hers is just residue. My sons tongue looked the same and he never had thrush either.

@sweetooth: nope, no white in her mouth or on my nipples and no pain while BF or after. I think it's due to the shield I have to use temporarily on the one side til it heals fully.

ETA I just read about your pain and that sounds awful, I hope it clears quickly. Nipple issues are terrible. I currently have to feed with a shield on one side, then hand express til empty, soak in warm saline solution, and cover with APNO and a hydrogel pad. Feeding takes forever.

@Mrs. J: Mexico?! Holy awesome! How has it gone so far? Was traveling ok?

@ShootingStar: Nice! We avoided it last night too! I'm praying tonight goes well... She was definitely more fussy during that time, but no meltdown!

@anbanan15: LO has white on her tongue but it's always kind of been like that and I think it's always just been milks.

@sweetooth: I'm sad for your nipple.

Like I said, lady night we avoided the meltdown, which was so great. Lots of carrying in the Ergo and I had DH finally inflate the yoga ball I originally bought for labor. Ha. But yeah, lots of walking and bounces! My issue then was bedtime...she napped until 7:30ish and when I kind of woke her to change and feed her, she just wanted to go back to sleep. Late naps are something I don't think I'll ever know what to do with!

LO spent all of two nights ago in the RnP; we stayed at the inlaws and the bed was waaaay too soft. Anyway, she did pretty good, a 3 hour stretch, feeding and rocking, then a 4 hour stretch, feeding and rocking, then on and off until about 7:00 am. I put her in the RnP again last night and she did a 5 hour stretch (one little 30 min wake up in there), then I fed her in bed...and fell asleep. Oops. Well try for a full night in it tonight!

I think I figured out her fussing at the boob, I basically forgot she doesn't need to eat constantly like before and goes 3-3.5 hours in between feeds. No wonder she was pissed! Just gave her a bath, NOT happy about coming out. I want to do it as a bedtime routine but I don't want to poss her off more at night... Oh! In case anyone else hadn't heard of it, check out purple crying, helps to make the nighttime screams a little more bearable!

@ms.janedoe: Yay for a good night!!!

@sweetooth: Thank you! I hope E's appointment went well

@Mrs. J: sooooo jealous! He looks nice and relaxed

    @Ash: Thanks lady

So the shots weren't toooo bad. I definitely cried more than he did. Right when they stuck the first one in, he pushed out his lower lip and broke my heart! But, we survived. He's been a little more fussy than normal, but not horrible. He's 11lb 12oz (pretty close to my 12lb guess!), 22.5 inches, and his head is massive like always at 40cm haha

Not exactly the best way to spend my last day of mat leave, but ehh. Pretty sure I'm gonna have a breakdown when I drop him off with my mom tomorrow I'm just telling myself that I get I stay home with him this summer. Plus, maybe the routine will be good for both of us. I AM a bit excited to see my kids at work. I'm sure they'll be asking lots of questions about the baby.

And a picture of him from before his shots. His concerned/worried face always cracks me up

    @ms.janedoe: ditto on the tongue

@lilteacherbee: Cute! Have a good first day! I'll be in clinical all day tomorrow too. It's one long day a week, but yea still don't like the idea of being away that long in a stretch.

  13. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@anbanan15: My son had residue on his tongue at one point and it went away. I do feel like this is partly my fault. I'm trying not to beat myself up over it.

@Cara M. 17: I'm headed to my OB tomorrow. I wonder if she will recommend that I use a shield. I kind of can't imagine one more thing to deal with though. Do you feel that it's helping? Even if feeding takes forever?

@ms.janedoe: I'm sad for it too I know what you mean about late naps. It's hard to stimulate the baby later in the day once you're exhausted. I googled Purple Crying - I'll have to read some more about it.

@lilteacherbee: Glad to hear Nathan did well - and so did you! Good luck heading back to work tomorrow. I'm sure it's a comfort to hand him off to your mom. But it will still be hard too.

    - - - - -
So Elliott was in rare form for the 2 month appointment. I fed him an hour before going to try and have him on his best behavior. But he was just wailing...WAILING! So the doctor was asking how much milk he's getting and I'm like, "How do you know?" I mean, it's not like there's an indicator on the nipple or something. And I don't feel like pumping is a true indicator. So anywho - she thought he might not be getting enough. But that just made me wince at the thought of more time on my nips. I do think the thrush and my pain is contributing to potentially less milk. If only I could be stress-free - HA! Ugh. I'm trying to stay positive, but today was rough. The shots weren't bad. But little guy hasn't grown enough. So I have to go back in a week. And in the mean time I need to take care of me too.

This afternoon though, he peed on me while I was feeding him. He delivered the juiciest poo ever. He would not stop wailing. And I spilled the nystatin medicine. Thank goodness public transportation was on my husband's side tonight and he walked in the door at a good time.

Ugh, LO is still napping and it's 7:00pm... If it's like last night she'll want to go to sleep again right after! I wish we could push bedtime a little so she'd sleep in a little bit! I'm do clueless about if I should wake her or not!

So sorry to say hello and then disappear. I'm reading and trying to keep up

C has been sleeping more today and we just took her temp...100 rectally. Called the advice nurse and she said under 100.4 is ok and to monitor it. My mama heart is hurting. She's so little! Anyone else had a fever yet? Aside from nursing there's nothing I can do and I hate that.

  17. Maysprout

    grapefruit / 4800 posts

@MrsA: I'm not sure if LO had a low fever or not but she's just getting over a bad cold and it stunk. The worst part lasted for about a day and a half or so, she slept a lot and was eating less than normal. I used the bulb syringe a couple times a day and turned a humidifier on. I also tried to encourage her to drink more by just dropping breastmilk on her lips sometimes and sometimes that encouraged her enough to drink at least for a bit. So sorry your LO is sick and I hope they recover soon.

We were up aaaaall night long...we had a 2.5 hour stretch to start, then up EVERY hour. Seriously. It was the first time we used the Halo instead if just blanket swaddling, but man, that succccked. Luckily DH is home so he took her at 6:30 so I could get a other few hours.

Leaving her with him while I go to the dentist and close out at work...well see how that goes a d if she'll take a bottle and isn't screaming when I get back...

  20. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@ms.janedoe: the Halo sleepsack has been our savior! Glad to hear it worked for you last night. Keep trying! Are you also using white noise? I think the Halo works for us because Elliott is seriously Houdini. Other swaddle he could maneuver out of and wake himself with the Moro reflex. But the Halo allows him to move his feet and keep those little arms tucked in securely. We start his evening ritual around 7:30 with the Halo and white noise.

Thanks for the well wishes, @sweetooth: and @maysprout: (did I do that right?) Fever is down and she seems to be doing on. We have the 2 month appointment this am so we'll see!

@ms.janedoe: C was a Houdini with blanket swaddles... We haven't tried the halo but the swaddleme seems to be working for now. Good luck tonight!!

Beautiful baby pictures, ladies! November sure brought adorable munchkins!

Sooo I'm at work! And I actually got here on time today, woohoo!! (I'm perpetually late ALL the time...everywhere. And it's only gotten worse with a baby). My mom and I live 20 min apart. In the mornings, she's coming almost all the way to me and in the afternoons, I'm going almost all the way to her. Work is only 10 min from my house, so it's working out pretty well.

I've only cried once today I got up and got myself ready, pumped, then got Nathan ready. I'm about to go pump again since I'm on my break, then I'll pump when I get home at 4.

All my kids made me feel better. Their smiles and faces when they saw me made my day I've gotten so many "I missed you Mrs. Jen" comments and hugs. Definitely makes it a little easier to come back to work. (Don't know if I'll be feeling the same when they're driving me nuts in a few days!)

You guys, my OB winced at my nips. It is indeed thrush. Both Elliott and I have thrush and are passing it back and forth. Good times...good times...

He was wailing on the drive to the OB and I almost turned around and went home. It's such a challenge to be out and about right now. I wish I could have gotten the prescription filled ASAP. But I had to come home to feed him and wait a few hours for it to be filled. I guess if I was awesome I could feed in the backseat and just sit in the Target parking lot until it was ready. But I'm not awesome. I'm the mom with painful nips who wanted to come home and have a sandwich.

@MrsA: Glad to hear the fever is down! Hope your 2 month appointment goes well today.

@lilteacherbee: Glad to hear it's going well today! And Nathan is adorable!

@Ash: Thank you! The cuteness definitely helps these days.

  29. Turd Ferguson

    pomegranate / 3160 posts

@sweetooth: @MrsA: See, I'm wondering if that might be the problem, that she DOESNT like being swaddled...we usually use an A and A blanket that isn't as tight... Who knows?!

@sweetooth: I am so sorry about the nipple situation!! That sounds awful!! :(. Carseat crying is also miserable. Talk about feeling helpless.

    @lilteacherbee: Glad it's going well!!

@MrsA: How did the appointment go?

Left LO with Daddy for 4 hours today while I went to the dentist and my exit interview at work...happy to report she did great a AND took the bottle (it's been about 6 weeks since she had one)! It had 5 ounces in it and she took about 3.

Anyone else's LO flail and flap and kick a lot? Near the end of nursing sessions, when she's waking up, etc, she looks like she's about to take off!

  30. MrsA

@lilteacherbee: glad your first day is going well!

@sweetooth: ouch!! Bfing is hard enough without sore and hurting nipples! Sending fast recovery wishes your way and hope the meds kick in quickly!

@ms.janedoe: some days C likes the swaddle, some days she is still trying to Houdini out of it...you're right...who knows? I'm pretty sure even the babes don't know

Our appt went well! The dr wasn't concerned about the fever since it was very low so we opted to go ahead with the vaccinations today. She's got Tylenol on board now and is sleeping on my chest. Poor girl We're both in pjs and I think we'll just lay low at home this afternoon.

  31. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@ms.janedoe: I think babies never like the initial swaddling. But I know what you mean. We had a period of time where we didn't swaddle and that worked too. // Hope the exit interview went well. Had you always planned to quit your job? Or did you decide to do this after having your little girl? //

@MrsA: Thanks for the recovery wishes! I'll take em! Hope you enjoyed your PJ time with your little girl. Glad the appt went well.

@ms.janedoe: it's pretty great! Jack was a good little traveller. I had a break down that it was just like home in a different location with all the feeding and no sleep but it's so gorgeous here.

Jack is 12lbs 10oz now, and I almost cried at his shots. We have started getting 4-5 hour stretches of sleep, but it's one per night until 3 or4 am and then back to every 2 hrs. That's a little exhausting.

@lilteacherbee: glad it's going well! I'm dreading Tuesday.
@sweetooth: sorry about your nipples!!! I know what you mean with swaddling...Jack has decided he is done with it.

Last night was...better. We got a good 4 hour stretch to start from 8-12, then I got her down by 1:00. She was awake again at 2, so I fed and rocked her and got her down by 3:00. Then, she was up at 4:00. Seriously. Ugh. I pulled her into bed at 4:00 and we both slept kind crappily until about 8:00ish. So I'm still optimistic that she'll at least sleep in the RnP, but now it's trying to figure out how to get her second stretch longer again! We'll see what happens tonight!

@Mrs. J: Cute pictures!! Glad it's going well. Did you have the trip planned before baby, or did you decide to do it after?

@sweetooth: It's always kind of been the plan to quit. I waited it out awhile to see how things went. I have enough saved to stay home for about a year, so I'll start looking in the next few months for something.

@Mrs. J: so jealous of your vaca. also, are you wearing a bikini?!! wow! i am NOT in bikini shape. still have 15 lbs to lose, eek. although i have done nothing to make effort to lose the weight.

@sweetooth: ah, your poor nips speedy recovery

@MrsA: glad the fever improved. ollie also had his vaccines yesterday. brave little guy only cried for 2 mins but was extra fussy in the evening so i eventually gave him tylenol. he was intrigued by the cherry flavor

@ms.janedoe: 4 hours is pretty good! ollie has been doing 4.5 hours and then 3 hours overnight - it has made such a difference! that combined with smiles and baby coos have made me a much happier mommy

on a different note we found a nanny!! yay! she is getting her masters in child psych online so she needs a more flexible schedule than her desk job at DHS. we are excited!

@ sweettooth - so sorry about your nips, but I am really glad you posted something because it made me realize that I probably have the beginning of a case of thrush that I should get checked out before it gets worse. (no white in LOs mouth, but she keeps popping off and I have a burning sensation when she's feeding.)

@ms.janedoe - congrats on becoming a SAHM! I'm headed into work today to resign. I've decided to stay at home with LO for awhile as well. So sorry you are having so much difficulty with sleep. Sounds like you're on the right track - 4 hours is pretty good. Hope it continues getting better.

LO had her 2 month shots last week. She cried so much, I was so sad for her. But a little nursing made it all better. She was super fussy that afternoon, so I gave her some Tylenol and cuddled on the couch with her. Anyone else irritated that there is no dye-free Tylenol? I could only find it in the store brand.

Otherwise things are going OK. LO was 14 lb, 6 oz at her checkup. I was worried that the dr would say we were feeding her too often or something, but dr said everything looks great and that we should keep feeding her when she wants it. She has outgrown all of her 0-3m clothes though, which is sad because my little sis gave us a super cute dress for Christmas that she never got to wear.

@ms.janedoe: We had it planned before he arrived. My in laws took us and this fell the last week of my leave. Normally I can never travel in January because of work, and all my breaks are high travel periods.
