@Finfan: Will do! I am an attorney and our handbook actually says no visible tattoos. SHRUG. I figure I wear short sleeve about twice a year to work so no big deal!

@wrkbrk: I've only just realised our babes are born on the same day (with a time difference!)

Another tattoo/jewelry idea to represent our LOs is the sagittarius zodiac/constellation. It's pretty cool looking!

@Finfan: @wrkbrk: This is my inspiration, but with Claire's name on it. Her nursery is travel themed with several vintage hot air balloon pieces. It will be on the backside of my right shoulder. I've got a few balloon designs in mind, but I need the tattoo artist to help me!

    @Miss Sarah: that's beautiful!!

I also found these initial bracelets that I like: https://www.etsy.com/listing/217882227/initial-bracelet-personalized-custom
They are really inexpensive but I think they would look awesome in gold

had our 8 week maternal health nurse appointment today, and she picked up that babe's bum crease is uneven (asymetric gluteal fold) - could be an indicator for developmental hip dysplasia. now I need to get a referral for an ultrasound to get it checked out *just in case*. I took my older DD for the same ultrasound when she was about 8 weeks and it came back fine, so fingers crossed!

In other news, I got a text from a friend from high school that she is pregnant with her first! So excited for that baby to come in August.

Is anyone's LO producing so much saliva that they are choking on it? I thought drooling didn't start until teething!!

    persimmon / 1259 posts

    @FannyMae: fingers crossed dear!

@peaches1038: Yesss! So much drool, been going on since about 6 weeks! Ugh...

FWIW: The 6:30 bed time was a joke!! I don't think Claire is feeling well, but we were up so frequently last night. She did not have a long stretch like she normally does... I'm so tired today.

2 month check-up and vaccines are tomorrow, I'm nervous!

  14. peaches1038

    nectarine / 2047 posts

@Miss Sarah: I can't believe how much there is!! Does Claire choke at all? It's only dyeing the day but I get worried about nighttime. I tried to put Hank down at 8 last night and 1 hour and 15 min later, he finally went to sleep. I don't think he's ready for an earlier bedtime yet, even though he was giving all his sleepy cues. And good luck tomorrow! I'm sure she will do great!

  15. Miss Sarah

    persimmon / 1259 posts

@peaches1038: Well, she chokes a lot anyway because of the reflux... So it's hard to tell what's causing it, but I'm sure it doesn't help! We're not going to try the early bed time tonight, but I am going to ask her pediatrician tomorrow about it.

@Miss Sarah: @peaches1038: My little guy has suddenly been choking and then coughing too. I thought it was drainage/cold related but he also has tons of drool?! Could it be something developmental?

We have our 2 month well check tomorrow so perhaps the doctor can shed some light.

Our earlier bedtime was also a joke and we had SO MANY night wakings last night (so exhausted!). I'm not sure if it's related to this cold. That said, I was reading the following links today and expect we'll be shooting for an earlier bedtime closer to 3 months. Right now, I'm just going to focus on developing a bedtime routine.

We had our 2 month wellness visit and first set of vaccinations today. Oh man, my sweet little girl is not a happy camper. Very fussy and doesn't want to be down. I had to leave for a few hours for a funeral and DH said she screamed a ton while I was gone (I left plenty of milk but she's a comfort nurser so major mama guilt footer leaving her). On the plus side, she looks great. 23.5 inches long and 10 lbs 5 oz.

Does anybody else has major anxiety about health stuff? I hate Google but always end up doing it, and now I'm terrified that the little cough LO has could be the beginnings of whooping cough. Surely I'm overreacting?!

  24. peaches1038

    nectarine / 2047 posts

@AggieDaze: I read that around 2 months is when their glands really start to kick in. So now they have real tears, sweat and begin to produce lots of saliva. So I guess it's normal. I'd be interested to hear what your ped says. Also, those articles are very reassuring. I'm admittedly not very good at recognizing his sleep signs and usually start his nap routine when he's already screaming. Need to be better about that.

@clover: awww, sorry she isn't feeling well. The fussiness only lasted the rest of the day for us and the next morning, he was his usual self. Hope you all got some rest last night!

  25. AggieDaze

    apricot / 448 posts

@peaches1038: re: the saliva, our doctor said (without my asking) that around now is the time that most babies start going through the motions of teething (drooling, chewing, etc) but that they don't typically get teeth until 6 months.

@clover: is your LO feeling better? We got our shots today (except the Prevnar as their shipment was delayed).

lO was 14 lbs and 22.5 inches long with a huge head (97 percentile)!

Oh and my doctor wasn't worried at all about the cough. So I am staying away from Google from here on out!

  27. Miss Sarah

    persimmon / 1259 posts

@peaches1038: Ahh interesting, I have noticed real tears the past couple of days!

@AggieDaze: Our shots were today too. I didn't expect to cry like I did! But obviously, we survived. She's a bit fussier today, but is also sleeping more.

Claire was 12 pounds 13 ounces, 23.5 inches long, and 91st percentile for head size. We've got some big, healthy babies!

Our ultrasound went well - he told us that she her right hip is "mildly immature", but that it looks good and he thinks it will be fine as she grows. we will go back for a re-scan at 12 weeks to see if it has corrected itself, if not then we take the next steps (specialist etc).

in other exciting news, I managed to sneak away from home after the scan while baby was sleeping and got myself a haircut (FINALLY!!) and did some shopping. whoohoo!! hubby goes back to work tomorrow after 4 weeks off though... waaah!

@peaches1038: She actually slept longer last night than usual, but she kept whimpering in her sleep. Such a sad little peanut!

@AggieDaze: She was cranky up until this evening then it was like a switch flipped and she's almost herself again. How is your LO handling the post vaccination period?

@FannyMae: Happy it went well for you guys!

  34. Miss Sarah

    persimmon / 1259 posts

@clover: oh, sleep whimpers... Claire did that during her first nap after the shots. It was like she was dreaming about them!

She has slept well tonight though! She's currently asleep on my chest right now, post-feeding. After our 20-minute upright window has passed, it's back to bed for us!

    nectarine / 2047 posts

@clover: sleep whimpers are the worst! Glad she seems to be feeling better though
@Miss Sarah: in up for a feeding as well. Hank has been waking up between 330 and 4 now. Kinda bummed that he isn't sleeping until 530 anymore, but he seems super hungry during the MOTN feeding so he must need it

We are struggling with naps and I thought it might be helpful to take a quick poll of those with similar age babies. Does anybody want to answer these questions?
    1) How does your baby fall asleep for naps during the day?
    2) Where does LO sleep for naps?
    3) Is there an average expected nap length? Expected amount of naps per day?
    4) What tiredness signs have you noticed in LO?

I'll answer to get us started.
    1) Last week (around 8 wk mark), LO was falling asleep in his crib drowsy but awake for most naps. Now, I'm struggling to get him to fall asleep. He fusses in my arms, fusses in his crib, fusses in his swing, etc. It seems like eventually he just gives up and falls asleep.
    2) Per the above, he's falling asleep on me mostly and then I'll put him down when he's deep asleep.
    3) He wakes up pretty consistently between 30-45 minutes after falling asleep Sometimes its only 5-15 minutes.
    4) It seems like he'll quickly go from cooing to yawning and then I think hiccuping, fussy with wild arm movements when he's already overtired. Having trouble finding that perfect time where he's tired enough but not overtired (last week it was right at the 1 hour mark; this week is throwing me for a loop).

    persimmon / 1436 posts

    @AggieDaze:

    1) She falls asleep in the swing, the car, or sometimes we snuggle her asleep on the couch or in our bed. We don't co-sleep but she will nap next to us. She is our second and so far she's been a wherever, whenever napper, thank God!

    2) Once she's asleep, we will move her to the swing or pack and play to finish the nap. If we are not doing anything, we might cuddle her the whole time. She is our last baby so we are soaking up all the snuggles.

    3) her longest naps are the first two (sometimes a few hours long) and the last ones are short (30-45 minutes)

    4) She yawns and fusses a little. She will also have trouble keeping her eyes open. At 11 weeks, she will usually be awake about an hour and a half.

    @AggieDaze:

    1) How does your baby fall asleep for naps during the day? She only really falls asleep on the boob during a feed, or if that fails, after a feed walking around with her head on my shoulder.
    2) Where does LO sleep for naps? at the moment she sleeps in her rocker (nuna leaf, it sways side to side) its kind of upright which she seems to prefer. any time I try lay her down in her bassinette she freaks out.
    3) Is there an average expected nap length? Expected amount of naps per day? she usually does 3 naps, anywhere from half hour to 2 hours if I'm lucky. but then sometimes she wont sleep at all and will be super sooky in the afternoon.
    4) What tiredness signs have you noticed in LO? big yawns, dozey eyes, loses control of her arms and whacks herself in the head.

  39. AggieDaze

    apricot / 448 posts

@FannyMae: YES to the "whacks self in the head." Mine feeds to sleep this week but then wakes up and wants the boob back in his mouth, ha.

@finfan: You reminded me that I should soak up the cuddles and not worry about "wrong or right" and "bad habits" -according to some.

  40. Finfan

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@AggieDaze: Yes, I would keep doing what you're doing IF it is working for you. You can always adjust later. Our babies are still so little! (I'm not against sleep training eventually--did it with my first and will do it again if needed)
