So we already have two babes born and more to come soon, so I figured I'd start the thread! Let's hear about those babies and how the postpartum recovery is going. (I can't believe it's our turn guys!!)

@Miss Sarah: Yay!
Nothing to contribute yet but thanks for starting the thread! Can't wait to keep up with all our November mamas!

Recovery is going pretty well. Better than I expected considering I got fully dialated, pushed for three hours and then had a C-section all in < 12 hours start to finish.
I had never had surgery before so the CS was scary but my husband and medical team was awesome. It seemed like they had just gotten started when I heard DD2 start crying. She's super cute and we are completely smitten. Especially her big sister!
We may even get to go home today! Doc was just in to check on me and said she would write the papers up so that if we want to leave later, we can. Or we can stay longer if needed. I think we want to head home and get some real sleep though.
I can't wait for more November babies to join us! Fingers crossed for all of you!

@Finfan: So glad the recovery is going well! I can't wait to hear how things go at home... Keep us updated!

@Finfan: Hope you're feeling well!
I had a scheduled section so was so so different from going into labor with A and I really did not like the feeling of lying there completely lucid and being so out of control. I almost wished I could've been walked thru every step they were taking to get J out. recovery has surprisingly been pretty easy. all my nurses kept making fun of me for refusing all meds. I think it was just my wanting to get up and get to the nicu to see J that made me not feel the pain so much.. J is 3 weeks on Thursday and. doing great and nursing like a champ which is awesome bc I was only EPing with A.
can't wait to see more mommies on here!!

@littleredhairedgrl: Wow, great update!
We've been home for a few days and are settling into a routine. I was hoping to be off pain meds by now but I'm still having some pain so sticking with them for now.
DD1 has really taken to being a big sister and I'm so proud of how good of a helper she has been. She is very protective of LO.

Day 2 at home for us! Last night (the first night) was rough... DD screamed for a solid two hours from midnight to twoish. It makes me feel so helpless and sad when I can't console her! However, after that stretch... We had a pretty good night, sleeping between feedings.
Speaking of feedings... Holy hell my nipples hurt! I have to use a nipple shield because mine are fairly flat. But I'm fairly certain it hurts either way.
I had a few stitches (not sure how many), so I'm achey, but have been doing OK with my motrin and dermaplast/tucks regimen.
How are you other mommas doing?
persimmon / 1436 posts
@Miss Sarah: I remember when we brought our first LO home from the hospital and she screamed for 3-4 hours and I was crying too! I think that's super common. It turned around quickly for us and hopefully it will for you too!

@Miss Sarah: my nipples hurt too. Everyone at the hospital said if we had a good latch it wouldn't hurt, but I remember it hurting with LO1 at the beginning until my nipples got used to it. Baby has a bit of a tongue tie but I think he's getting a good latch; tough to be sure. My boobs are ridiculously engorged though! Derma blast/tucks is the best for stitches. I remember really enjoying warm baths with Epsom salt as well.

Today will be day 3 at home for us today. Last night went better than the second night in the hospital or our first home... I started using the rock n play instead of the flat bassinet in the pack n play which has helped LO go back to sleep faster. I don't remember using it at night with LO1 - do other people do this? My doctor said it was fine although it might create bad habits... At this point, I just need as much sleep as I can get so seems worth breaking bad habits later.
Otherwise, today will be the first day LO1 is home all day (he was at school for part of yesterday and Thursday). I envision a lot of "gentle touch" and coddling in our future. He's been super excited and obsessed about his little brother, but also very emotional and quick to break down. It's a big change for him I'm sure.

J will be 1 month tomorrow and at his weight check this past Thursday he weighed 8lbs 4pz!! which means he gained over 2lbs in 2 weeks!! I'm so not used to a baby enjoying eating. this guy will eat until he spits up and even then he won't get off my nipple and milk will start coming out his nose.. he's a little beast! enjoying lots of cuddle time and A is just in love with him. but dying for attention and doing anything she can to get it..
@Miss Sarah: I was in a lot of pain at first but now after almost 4 weeks my nipples are no longer sore. if I pump they will hurt a little the next time he feeds but I try not to unless I'm feeling really fill still after a feeding.
@AggieDaze: we used the Rock and play for lo1 and she LOVED it. with this guy I can't figure out what he likes as far as sleep. he is great during the day but at night he grunts all night long. I try swaddling, no swaddle, rock n play, bassinet, our bed.. it's like nothing works until he completely tires himself out.. needless to say, I'm exhausted!

What is everyone's newborn wearing to sleep in?
LO1 is a summer baby so I'm in new territory re:finding the right amount of clothing. We use a halo sleep sack swaddle. Live in Texas so temp is 45 outside tonight... Our heater is set to come on around 68.
persimmon / 1259 posts
She's sleeping well in fleece sleepers! We did the sleep sack, but she was pretty fussy, so we're trying this and it's working so far!
persimmon / 1436 posts
@AggieDaze: She is wearing fleece zip up jammies and then swaddled. But we got maybe 4 inches of snow yesterday too.

How's everyone doing?? I can't even believe that E is already 2 weeks old. We're doing pretty well over here. Some nights are easier than others. She's not too fussy or crying at night, sometime she just wants to hang out from 10 to 1 am and then up every two hours to eat. So other than being tired, we're doing great!!
apricot / 448 posts
@JennyG: does it seem like she has her days and nights mixed or perhaps it's just part of being more alert? Did y'all have a 2 week check up already?!
apricot / 448 posts
@Finfan: I can't even imagine snow. Guessing you guys are spending most of your time indoors? I wore Rhett to our neighborhood park yesterday so Lo1 could get some playtime. He seemed comfortable (it was 65 degrees F) but I didn't stay long cus I worried.

How long is everyone "hermiting" in the house or at least away from super public places? I can't remember what I did with LO1 but I think I lasted quite awhile; that said, he was not born in the middle of cold and flu season.
I'm pretty sure I have a sinus infection. I keep waking up with headaches above and behind my eyes (started 4 days pp). Hoping its related to our fluctuating weather and allergies and not a cold. LO2 seems to be doing great. He sleeps well in RNP so I get three chunks of 2-3 hours at night (between 10 pm and 8 am). Hoping we can continue this trend - I would love an easy sleeper!! During the day, we mostly cuddle, breastfeed (around every 2 hours; shorter if he falls asleep on the first side too early and longer if he manages to stay awake for both sides), diaper change and I'll set him in other contraptions (swings, bassinet, Etc) to get laundry done, fix dinner and of course play with LO1. When LO1 is home, there are lots of random hugs and head kisses for his baby bro.
persimmon / 1259 posts
@AggieDaze: Unfortunately, we're unable to "hermit" any longer. We're currently in the car for two hours heading to my Grandma's funeral. However, we're only having her "meet" close family and then DH is watching her during the visitation so that she doesn't get touched by too many people.
apricot / 448 posts
@Miss Sarah: boo. That is an especially awful way to stop hermiting. So sorry for your loss!
persimmon / 1436 posts
@AggieDaze: Yes, lots of indoor time but DH has been taken DD1 out to build snowmen and towing her around in the sled so she is still getting fresh air. She also goes to nature preschool and they spend most of the time outdoors. It actually has been quite pleasant weather for playing outdoors.
I wish I could get out there and play but I am still trying to take it as easy as I can post C-section. The pain is letting up unless I do too much and then I really feel it for a day or two.
persimmon / 1259 posts
@JennyG: Little Miss is up about those same hours each night, but I'm adjusting to it. We just get more sleep in the morning (except today since we had to leave).
I can't believe she's already a week old today! Where has the time gone? I've actually been feeling pretty good physically, though this car ride is torture on my stitches! Oww!
For those of you nursing, how's it going for you? DD is a great eater, but we're still using a nipple shield (I have pretty flat nipples). I know we need to try to ween her off of it sooner rather than later, but when she's hungry, she's not very patient to try it. We last about a minute of trying to latch on and then I bust out the shield! Not sure how to go about it all...
apricot / 448 posts
@Miss Sarah: I wish I had tips on nipple shield. I haven't used one before but I'd say to just keep trying to latch ahead of time and then switching to shield if necessary. Do you feed on both sides or one during each session? If both, you might try using the shield on the first side when baby girl is frantic/starving and then try going without on second side? I wonder if you might also have more luck to get her latched on without the shield in the middle of the night while she is more sleepy.
My little guy's latch doesn't look as wide open as they were suggesting in the hospital, but it seems to be working so I'm just rolling with it for the most part. The initial latch stings but stops hurting once he starts sucking.
persimmon / 1259 posts
@AggieDaze: I'm open to all suggestions. I'll definitely keep trying... Just not today with such a crazy hiccup to our normal routine. As for the stinging, I've heard that goes away in a few weeks. But same here, stings right when she latches, but once my milk let's down, it's completely comfortable.
ETA: I do both sides at each feeding, I just alternate which side I start with.

@Finfan: Thank you. She battled early onset alzheimers disease, so I'm glad her pain is now gone. I just pray my grandpa can come to peace with it quickly.

Day 3 here, recovering well as I haven't had any tearing or stitches, but holy moly afterbirth contractions on feeding are just excruciating the second time around. Babe is under the lights for her jaundice, we have been supplementing with formula after breast feeds and milk is coming in now. Supposed to go home tomorrow (day 5 in hospital) but we will see what happens with bili levels. Wondering how feeding will go at home with supplementing etc, how to know when I can just focus on breast and drop the extra formula feeds. Lots to figure out!
clementine / 912 posts
@FannyMae: I thought the afterbirth contractions were worse than any regular contractions I've ever felt. They were so bad one night I almost had DH take me to ER because I thought there was no way that level of pain was normal. Ugh, I don't even want to think about them if we have #3.
apricot / 448 posts
@FannyMae: ugh yes! I didn't have any tearing so I was on minimum pain medication afterward. I thought I didn't need anything until I'd feed and oh my gosh, I felt like I was in labor all over again!
persimmon / 1259 posts
@wrkbrk: Yay, cute!
@FannyMae: @JennyG: @AggieDaze: Are these contractions worse with second children? Mine have really only felt like minor period cramps... I usually don't even notice them. I'm glad I'm not dealing with that along with the stitches. TMI-but, having a bowel movement is an excruciating process! It doesn't hurt that bad, but I can't "push" at all... It takes forever!

@Miss Sarah: try this when having a BM. It should really help!
-sit with knees higher than your hips by putting your feet on a stool or even a couple books.
-make sure your feet are completely flat
-lean forward slightly and rest your elbows on your knees
-try breathing out like you are blowing through a straw while bearing down (this helps to prevent too much pressure on your pelvic floor muscles and disturbing your stitches)
-if it's been more than 10 minutes and you haven't gone, try again later.
-make sure to take your colace!
(ETA: I'm a pelvic floor physical therapist)

@JennyG: @fannymae:
Mine were awful this time too (second baby). The nurse said they are much worse with 2nd+ babies and worst if you are breastfeeding.
Edit: I had a C-section this time (baby hadn't moved after 3 hours of pushing) so I had lots of pain medicine at my disposal.
apricot / 448 posts
@Finfan: makes me feel better to hear 2nd babies are worse! I thought I was either 1) being a baby or 2) so distracted by stitches pain the first time that I just missed those pains

@peaches1038: @Miss Sarah: ditto to the colace. It was my best friend after lo1.
