@Blessedmama: He did well with his bottles this weekend, thanks for asking! My husband went back to just using the standard Medela bottles that come with the pump, and he drank from them on Saturday while I had my first training session at the gym and on Sunday when I met up with my girlfriends for a belated Christmas party.

@Beehive: oh good! Doesnt it give you a little feeling of relief when they finally take one

@hilsy85: yea I was thinking of doing a combo too but not sure. I think I'd like to try blw but nobody close to me (sisters, sil) have tried it with their kids so I'm not sure how that would go. I'd like to hear about others experiences with it. Ill have to ask the dr next visit when she said we'd talk about starting cereal.

@BlessedMama: We are doing BLW. Alia eats alot and usually sooner then every 2 hours. She is EBF with no bottles. She has wicked bottle rejection and absolutly will not take one or a paci. She is already 15.5lbs at 14 weeks old. She was born at 7.05lbs.

@JessLC: Chels probably gets 14 hours or so. Sleeps 8/8:30pm to 8/8:30am, 1-2 nursing sessions per night (so that puts us about 10.5 hours lets say, at a minimum) naps 60 mins before 11am nurse, 45 mins before 2pm nurse, 60 mins before 5pm nurse, 30 mins before 7pm (latest she's "allowed" to nap, lol) and then nurse, and bedtime.
Her pre-5pm nap is usually 90 mins, and this is all an ideal/mostly typical day, it can vary widely, sometime she's only up 30 mins in the night, or sometimes she doesn't get a solid am nap and the rest of the day is crap.

@beebug: Thanks so much! I think I found you on FB. Adorable doggie!
@jesslc: Glad to hear sleep is going well! That is so promising that the regression from moving to the crib wasn't too bad! It is so easy to over think this all, especially if you are home all day!
I thought 15-18 seemed high also. Now that LO is sleeping regularly at night, he takes two long naps during the day but still doesn't make 15 hours most days. Probably more like 13.
@hilsy85: Thanks!
@tidybee: Our morning nap seems to have disappeared as well!
@2peasinapod: Totally agree! There isn't a one fits all sleeping method. It is so easy to become obsessed with it when you are sleep deprived, lol. I am so happy LO has been sleeping 8-9 hours straight for the last week. It was like a switch went off and he was ready. It feels like him being ready was the biggest part of it!

@Jenn23: Good call on no paci, but now I'm not sure how I would not use it now? Arghh. She wasn't too bad last night, but wow that night before was brutal.
Anyone gone backwards and gone from using paci, to not.

@JoeysMama: I think I just got you added in too, thanks for doggie compliments......he is pretty dang cute, lol.

What is BLW?
Went on my first legit run, 3km....three AMAZING kms, felt awesome. I need to do more kegels though.....let's just leave it at I'm glad I was wearing black spandex and not any other colour! Not cool, I leaked a lot, like any step outside of rhythmic running step I really had to make sure I was "holding it".
Chels and I had Zumba today.....I think I was more intimidated going into it today knowing what it was, but still had so much fun, and she loved it too!
She had her first nap in crib today too, this aft, and I had to wake her up, need to try more of those, for now just happy night time is in the crib though!

@Jenn23: Yay for Friday being your last day! If childcare was the same amount as what I make, I would definitely quit too. I will see how work goes, and you're right, I might enjoy it and there's always plan B!
bananas / 9357 posts
@BlessedMama: I'm glad to hear it does get better. I'm jealous you're only 2 minutes from your work!

@JessLC: My LO sleep 13-15 hours per day. Usually 10-12 at night with a nursing session some time in there. And as you know, we struggle with naps during the day. I try to get him to take 4-5 half hour naps. Wish his naps were longer tho!
bananas / 9357 posts
@BlessedMama: DS takes about 3-4 oz in a bottle. He nurses pretty much every 2 hours during the day, but he sleep 8+ hours for his first stretch of sleep. I plan to do BLW or possibly a mixture. Maybe start with purees and work into BLW.
bananas / 9357 posts
@Beebug: BLW = baby led weaning Instead of feeding them purees, you just give them regular food and they feed themselves. I admire all the exercise you do! Go you!

@Beebug: Got it! And congrats on the run! Isn't it amazing?? I went for my first postpartum run 2 weeks ago and it felt so good!! I've only run once since then though. I need to get back into it! It's so hard in the winter!
persimmon / 1085 posts
@Beebug: Well, in the beginning we did us a paci for him at night, but since he kept spitting it out, we stopped. I guess you could go a few nights without it, to try to break the habit? Not sure...
@mrskc: Well, childcare is about 60% of what I make, but I can make that much waitressing 3 nights a week instead. That's the plan now, anyway. I hope you become comfortable with whatever decision you make!!
Great job with the running, ladies. I did a zumba class last Thursday and it felt great. I have so much weight to lose, but feels good to get started!

I want to weigh myself, we don't have a scale though, so I have to go to our neighbours (lol) to use theirs, should go over tonight. I was 161 lbs at my 6w pp appt, so now being 6w more from then, I'd love to know where I'm at, I'm guessing 155 or so.
@2PeasinaPod: Agreed about hard with winter. I don't run in weather.....meaning cold I can handle, but no wind, snow, rain, no grossness, lol....which in Ontario....can be difficult at times! I don't know when I will go next, I have step class tonight, some 30 day shred I should get to, maybe on the weekend? I should get into the community ctr for a swim or two as well, just to get some cardio without the impact.
C is princess fussypots this morning, we slept in as I was up from 3:30-5:30 (she nursed 3:30 and was back down by 4:10, I soaked diapers after putting her down, then DH was up 4:45, and by the time he left, C unsettled and into bed she came with me, I needed rest! We both got more, thankfully!
I have her in sposies today, my diapers had some build up (minor stink lingering after washing....bleh!) so I am trying to strip 'em, we'll see how it goes. I think my issue is not going through them as fast now and still waiting until I near run out to wash them all, whereas I probably need to be more diligent washing sooner than I run out and just wash what I have so the dirty ones are sitting around for less time.
We are going to the library this aft, I haven't gotten a library card for where I live now, I just go back to my hometown (15 mins away) so going to get one for our local one, and join a weekly reading group for babies.....! Part of me thinks it's a little silly, but it's an outing, and can't be a bad thing if it involves books!

We survived our first airplane trip! Each leg of the trip was 2.5 hours on the plane and my LO did great. We got so many compliments about her since she didn't make a peep even though she was awake for most of the trip. She was content to just suck on her pacifier and look around.
I also got used to nursing in public in the terminal and the plane. The first leg of our trip I tried to use a nursing shawl to make sure I was always covered. By the time we came back, I was just whipping out my boob without any cover and no one seemed to care or notice. I feel a lot more comfortable nursing in public now.

@Beebug: Ugh...S is the same today. He will. not. sleep. I don't know what his problem is today. I'm working from home and my dad is here and I feel terrible for him. All he's doing is screaming! I go down every once in a while to settle him, but I think my dad can't wait until my last call of the day so he can go home!
@Jenn23: Yay for Zumba! Don't worry about the weight...you'll get there! It's so much more fun to enjoy our babies than exercise, isn't it??
@LemonLong: Congrats on the first airplane trip!

@Beebug: That's so cool because I'm going to start going to "Babytime", which is our local library's storytime for babies. I think it is going to be fun! Let me know how yours is. I'm going to start next week!
@2PeasinaPod: I got a great Groupon zumba special so I'm good for 20 classes. 1 down, 19 to go. I tried running a few weeks back again, (treadmill inside) but my lower back acted up again. Ever since pregnancy, my SI joint (where I had the twisted pelvis) starts hurting if I lift weight, run, etc. I hope I can work through it because I want to do the Color Run in Philly in July!
@LemonLong: That's great that the first flight went well!

@LemonLong: that's great! Isn't nursing in public so freeing? I kind of enjoy doing it
@Beebug: good for you on the run! I miss the freedom of pre baby being able to go for a run whenever I wanted. now I need to time things so he's sleeping when I head down to the gym, and usually he wakes up when I'm just getting into my groove! I wish we had a Bob, but just don't have the storage for one @2PeasinaPod: aw sorry you guys are having a rough day! Hope it gets better.
We just got back from a trial Music Together class (not sure if you all have this in your areas? It's a franchise I think, basically a baby music/rhythm class) and had lunch with two other mommies. I am so relieved that I am meeting nice women in my area, I really had pictured myself being so isolated with LO and at home all day. But it hasn't been like that, makes me feel better about being a SAHM.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@hilsy85: I didn't run with C, DH got her right when he got home from work, before he took the dog out! I honestly don't know how much running I'll do with the bob, we'll see when the nicer weather comes, for now loving the (short!) Time on my own!
How did the househunt go? I house shopped a bit today, and thought of you!I went to two builder sites with C, and there's a court/cul de sac of new homes backing on to greenspace I might really like!

@Beebug: thanks for asking! We actually put in an offer today on one of them (!!!). Very nerve wracking, as it would obviously be our biggest purchase to date, and feels very grown up to own property!

@hilsy85: I want to do a music class with Jay later this year when he is a little older. My friend did it with her 4 year old until he was about 3 yrs old. and he loved it! I'm glad you liked it. Good luck with the offer!! I will be a SAHM starting next week and worry about the isolation thing, too. I'm going to force myself to get out of the house every day!

@hilsy85: Music class sounds like fun.
I think I'm doomed to be an isolated SAHM. I can't really do anything during the day because I have my extra daycare girl. Going out with 3 little kids is SO stressful.
Just signed DS(4yr) for soccer. I'm so excited to watch him play sports. We are also going to do swimming lessons again in the spring. I hope A likes the water as much as DS did/does.

@LemonLong: Nothing like jumping right in with nursing in public eh! I feel like the airport did that to me too, I just didn't care!
@2PeasinaPod: Glad I was not the only one with a fusspot today, and like she nursed like crap and skipped a session, she crashed at 6:30, I just woke her to change and nurse her and put her to bed......we will see how tonight goes....I'm scared, lol.
@Jenn23: Awesome about Babytime! The one I wanted was full, so I may have to wait until next time...! Also....Zumba...without baby....good for you, I could never do it!!!
@hilsy85: YAY offer! So exciting!!! Hope the back forth stuff isn't too bad and you end up with a house....your first I'm guessing, we are in our first now, and I think my house hunting fever for number two, will always be worse than baby fever for two!!!
@Mrs.B: I forget where you live, but perhaps when we get rid of winter will it be easier to go out and about! Good for you anytime you do get out, when you can! I used to work as a mobile camp counsellor, we would go to parks and create a local camp that was more accessible to families -anything like that around you maybe? Will DS be in Kindergarten next Sept? I dont know how the US works with school age, C will go when she is 3, but turning 4 one month later.....crazy!
C did her first 180 degree turn in her crib last night, and pretty much always sleeps on her side in an L position....I just ran up and checked her, and sure enough, in her little L.

@Beebug: DS is in school right now but it is only for 2.5 hours a day. He will go full days the school year after next. I just found out my daycare girl's mom is pregnant and expecting in Sept. Very exciting but I will have my hands full. We get outside during the summer daily. We have a nice playground in our backyard so we usually play there.

@LemonLong: Yay for surviving first flight! And good for you for nursing in public. I'm still not comfortable doing it with out a cover. I would like to be because I'm not a fan of the cover.
@hilsy85: Music class sounds fun! Glad you're meeting other mommies, and good luck with the house offer!
I'm on weight watchers right now. I like that it allots extra points if you're nursing. I've already lost 6 lbs! Woo hoo! 12 more lbs to go until I'm at a weight I'm happy with. I'm about 162 right now and I like to be at 150 or upper 140's. I've been trying to walk more. I'm terrible at keeping up with exercise, so walking is the best I can do right now.
I've finally found a nanny to take care of A when I go back to work in Feb. She's been over twice for a trial day. I just have to call her up and offer her the position. I'm going to have her come by some more over the next couple of weeks so they can get better acquainted with each other. So not looking forward to starting back at work!

DS had his ENT appointment today. He has a pretty severe upper lip tie. They informed me that they would be unable to help me. I have been worried about this appointment for so long for them not to do anything. It was a huge waste of my time. Plus the office is at the hospital where there are tons of sick people (heaven knows what they have). I just wanted to get it taken care of. It looks like I have to find a dentist in town that does oral surgery or drive 2 hours to Childrens Hospital to have the ENT office out there take care of it. Nolan weighted in at 14 lbs 5 ounces though, so he is growing extremely well.
Over the weekend I weighted myself and found out that I have lost at least 10 pounds in the last month or so. I am pretty happy about that. However I need to be more careful because I had a blood sugar attack over the weekend and had to be picked up from a rest stop by family. I was traveling alone with DS and I was a fair distance away from anyone. It was very scary but I am ok now. However I am grounded from traveling long distances by myself, just in case it happens again.
@Mrskc: I am happy to hear that you found nanny for your LO. I hope that starting back to work doesn't cause you too much stress.
Does anyone elses LO scoot all over their crib? Every morning I find DS in the top corner of his crib against the bars, he starts at the bottom middle every night.
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: good for you re: the weight loss! I need to start working on my love handles, and I know watching my diet will help a ton with that. It's so hard when I have limited time to actually make anything healthy though! So glad you found a nanny--that must be a load off your mind to know at least you're leaving AJ with someone you like.
@MrsRcCar: I responded on your other thread, but I hope you're able to find someone to take care of the lip tie so N eats/nurses better! Scary about your blood sugar attack, and glad you're ok!!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@Beebug: @MrsRcCar: this morning, LO woke up at 3:30am which was a early for her, and i took a look at the monitor and she had turned 180 degrees and broken out of her swaddle and the blanket was kicked across the crib. if i didn't know any better, i'd have thought that someone came in and picked her up and messed with her little set up.
@hilsy85: can't wait to hear more about it today!!
@mrskc: good job on the weight loss! may i ask how you found your nanny? did you use a website like care.com?
cherry / 125 posts
Thanks for all the feedback on the bottles and feeding. I am going to maybe up her to 5oz and see if that helps. Its so hard to gauge since I nurse her in the morning and at night, she just eats what she wants!
For those of you doing BLW or a mixture...are you going to do cereal at all?
@Jenn23: Oh which library are you doing babytime? That sounds like fun!
@mrskc: That's great that you found a nanny! And great job with the weight loss!

@Beebug: What is zumba with baby? I love it so far! Great workout. Sorry the music class was full. Mine says that you don't register in advance, so I wonder if I should get there early?
Today is a special day. Last January 16th, was my IVF retrieval. I had 13 eggs, one of which became one of two embyros, which is now my son Jay. Last year at this time I was an utter mess, hopeful that we would finally have a baby after almost 2 years of trying. And now I have my 3 1/2 mo. old cutie!!

@Jenn23: Very big day, what a great day to look back on, and so amazing you have your little guy!
Zumba with baby, I have her in her carrier in front of me. I could never do normal Zumba because then I wouldn't be able to use the baby as my excuse for being so awful at Zumba-ing, lol.
Ok day today, busy afternoon, visited a friend, had another friend come here after I got home, then my Mom came to visit on her way home from work. C is napping, her third nap today in the crib.....I love this, seriously I lay her in there for naps (with paci...argh, lol) and she is out cold, it is awesome, going to wake her shortly though, so I can bath and nurse her before bedtime.
I am super sore today from workout stuff, went on a long walk this morning with C and the dog, but otherwise today is a needed rest day. I have agility class with the dog mid-day tomorrow, and might get a shred session in!

Big LOL to today, a friend of mine that I visited today has an 8 month old, and we parent very differently (neither better, just different!) and she is very pro stimulation infront of her baby, a lot....which I noticed before I had C. She took her from me today while her guy was napping and put a musical bear thing in front of C within 2 mins of holding her (I wasn't a fan of her putting the toy in front of her, but didn't say anything) and C FREAKED. She stared for a moment, the pout face came, and then scream. I took her back right away at that point, and friend was so puzzled as to why C freaked.....I was like.....she has never seen anything like that in her life, lol.
