@Beebug: haha that is so so funny! I can just imagine her little face all confused then crumpling into tears!
LO and I had a good day too! We met @hilsy85 and @beehive and their adorable little men and we had a great time. It was her first play date! We came home and then she rolled.over from tummy to back so that was exciting, then she took an hour and a half nap. In her boppy, but I will take it after all of her catnapping this week.

@BlessedMama: I think we are going to avoid cereal and stick to fruits and veggies for the first few months at least. We'll see what the pedi says though--apparently a big reason for giving cereal is that it's fortified with iron, which babies typically lack, so I'll see what her opinion on skipping it is.
@JessLC: so wonderful to see you and @beehive today! That's awesome that she rolled! And we were just talking about that today I thought L was going to roll during tummy time this evening, but he just kind of rocked from side to side lol. That's FABULOUS about the nap! I guess lunch tired her out

@hilsy85: i think @beehive was right when she said it was mostly about the head. her head was raised high enough that when it tipped to the side, it helped just propel her over because its so big and heavy i was so surprised about her nap...i felt bad that i actually had to wake her up because i didn't want her to sleep too close to her bedtime.

@JessLC: Yep. I used care to find the nanny. I started the search 4 weeks ago. I'm so relieved to have found someone.

@Jenn23: Ah. What a special day to look back on.
How fun you ladies were able to meet up! Running Elley is the only one I know on here that is close to me, but we are still a 2 hour drive away from each other.
Anyone else on Instagram on here? I know we had some new ladies join us and I love following you guys on Instagram. My username is katiekc.

@Beebug: Miss A does the pout face, her lip drops, the face crumples and the tears come...
@Jenn23: What a wonderful milestone to be able to celebrate! I was also just thinking that this time last year Miss A was just a wee cluster of rapidly multiplying cells
Alexis and I ahd a busy day today, we flew to Auckland and back on our own (it's a one hour flight each way) for my niece's fifth birthday. We had a wonderful day but Miss A kinda lost the plot on the flight home, she started yelling before we even started moving, thankfully she was so tired from her big day she passed out about fifteen minutes into the flight. We were both pleased to get home and I think tomorrow will be a quiet day!

@Kemma: hi -- do you live on the South Island?? I love New Zealand! My husband and I went about 6 yrs ago for two weeks (south island only) and looooved it... Also - glad LO did well in the flight! Sounds like a long day!

@Kemma: glad you had a good trip!
We have our ENT consult today for LO's lip tie and I am having serious anxiety about it. I am really nervous because he is older than babies usually are when they get the procedure done and I am freaking out about him being in pain and not understanding why The appt is right near DH's office so I hope he'll be able to come with us.

@hilsy85: @jesslc: We had such a great time at the playdate too! It was so much fun to meet in person and see your adorable babies. I love how they were all staring at each other, toooo cute! @jesslc: That's so great that she rolled over AND took a long nap! It's so weird, J did the same thing - yesterday evening he went down for a nap and it ended up being extra long. He woke up after his usual 30 minutes, and I went in and calmed him down and left him in the crib to go to the bathroom, and he fell asleep again. I had to wake him after an hour and a half, so it wouldn't mess with his nighttime sleep! I hate waking sleeping babies!
@hilsy85: Good luck with your ENT consult! I hope it goes well and isn't too hard on the little guy (or you).

@beebug Baby Zumba sounds awesome. I wish my place had that! I'll have to look around.
@blessedmama The Hankin Library in Chester Springs!
Here are some pro shots. Tried twice to make an album on Facebook in the October Mam's group but it won't work. Only on my regular Facebook, but not the group. Grrr!!

So fun some of you girls are meeting
@mrskc: Me! I love instagram, so addicting. I started following you.
@hilsy85: Good luck at the doctor!
@Jenn23: I thought it may be Hankin, my parents live in that neighborhood actually. I would love to try to go if it is on a day that I am off (working 4 days a week for now). And love love love all of Jays newborn pictures!

@JessLC: How fun that you all were able to meet up.
@mrskc: Yay for finding a nanny.
@Jenn23: Love your pictures. I miss the newborn tiny stage already!
I just donated all of my 100oz freezer stash yesterday! I'm glad it will be put to good use and the Mama that got it was so thankful. I am now on a mission to pump everyday so I can keep donating milk to this Mama for her DS.
Anyone else doing any type of milk donation?
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@hilsy85: good luck with the consult! let us know how it goes. poor guy!
@Beehive: isn't that funny how its just when we give up, they fall asleep on their own? i guess we should do playdates more often and tire our LO's out so they'll nap better
@Jenn23: omg, so cute! love.
@Mrs.B: wow, that is so fantastic that you did that! how fortunate for that mama and her baby. what made you decide to donate your milk?

@JessLC: @Beehive: @hilsy85: That is so dang cool you got to get together, I think @TurtleDoves: is probably closest to me (4-5 hours?), unless someone is close to US border in NY.
@hilsy85: Hope today's appt has gone well, keep us posted, thinking positive for you!
@mrskc: I am not on instagram, aside from seeing people post pictures on twitter via instagram, I have no idea what it is!!!
@Jenn23: l-o-v-e the pics! You pup is so adorable!!!! Jay is of course super adorable too, football hat is cuuute.
@Mrs.B: Cool about milk donation! I don't think it's legal in Canada? lol....maybe not illegal, but I don't think there's anywhere formal to set something up like that!
I had agility class with our dog today, took C, she was BEYOND due for a nap, so I was pumped thinking she'd sleep no problem...yah no....forgot our dog doesn't bark, and since this is a very busy dog place (classes, grooming, daycare, etc) there was no sleeping! Our trainer had her on her hip and Fin and I did our thing, too funny. She is napping now, I will probably not see her for a while now!
Tried her in the jolly jumper this morning, it was amazing, she loved it, just 10 mins....!
Lastly....yesterday my Baby Legs order arrived, @TurtleDoves: let me ship them to her, then she mailed them to me......thank-you so much, soon you ladies will see me posting pics with her with them on, SO CUTE!! I haven't put them on her yet, but I can't wait!

Thanks ladies! We just got home from our appt...it was pretty frustrating. Basically, she said that the doctor who clipped LO's tongue tie at 2wks old didn't clip as much as she should have, so some of it has grown back. In addition, she said that his lip tie should have been done then. To do them both now is much more of a procedure, and would be painful for LO--they would need to administer a numbing shot to his mouth. She also said that his type of tongue tie likely won't cause a speech impediment, and she doesn't believe that he will have dental issues because of his lip tie (although she said basically there's no way to know). She recommended doing the procedure ONLY to improve nursing, which is still uncomfortable about 30% of the time.
I'm just really frustrated and angry because at this point, I'm not willing to put L through a painful procedure when I can live with the amount of discomfort I have from nursing. But if this had been done properly in the first place, nursing might be really amazing for us and I would probably feel no discomfort/pain whatsoever. So I"m just annoyed...but we're going to leave things as they are.
@Jenn23: beautiful pictures! I love the last one.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@hilsy85: oh no, i'm sorry to hear that things didn't go right the first time! it must have been so hard to hear those things today, but at least it won't have any long lasting effects on him. i hope that maybe the discomfort with nursing will go away on its own - is that possible? big hugs!
squash / 13764 posts
@JessLC: thanks I think nursing will probably stay the same as it is now...it really isn't that bad, and it's WORLDS better than it was before, so I can definitely deal with it until 6 months, which is my first short term goal, and then we'll see.

I posted a video on the fb page of C in the Jolly Jumper, I totally forgot to post about it......but I cut about an inch of C's mullet yesterday, DH wasn't thrilled with me (LOL) but I think she looks better! Less skragley! I kept all the hair in a ziploc baggie to go into her baby book! Doesn't count as first haircut because I just did the back, lol.
Put her to bed an hour earlier tonight, she is out cold.....hello earlier bedtime? Yes please!

Is it just me or has this week flown? Aside from the fact that I whacked my pointer finger with a hammer and have a huge blood blister on it, week 12 has been a great week for us! Could it be because having an infant is actually getting easier? I think so!
@Mrs.B: As someone who had many troubles breastfeeding, I think that is completely awesome of you! Good luck on continuing to donate!
@Jenn23: Ridiculously cute pics of your entire fam!!!!
@hilsy85: So sorry about your appt. How frustrating that it was their fault! I definitely think you are making the right decision even though it is uncomfortable for you sometimes. Imagine how uncomfortable a numbing injection in the mouth would be? It hurts just to type it!
@Beebug: C is so cute in the jumper! It is hilarious that you chopped the back of her hair! I would do the same! It's funny bc I only like when DH's barber cuts his hair straight across in the back. (I don't like when it comes to a point.) I just noticed that Joey's hair is coming to a point now. I am not taking out the scissors just yet but I'm tempted!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@JoeysMama: C almost has a point at the back, I tried really hard to avoid it.....it'll grow quick I hope! Her bangs go down to/at her eyes, but even I don't think I could handle a haircut at the front yet....but that mullet had to go!
bananas / 9357 posts
@Jenn23: Oh my goodness! He is precious. What beautiful photos.
@Mrs.B: Wow. That's so awesome you donated your milk. Are you going through a milk bank or something? I would consider donating, but I don't really have a big freezer stash as it is. I think I have 60 oz.
@Beebug: Do you have an iphone? It's an app and you basically just take pictures and there are various filters you can apply to your photo. You can follow people and see the photos they post. I haven't even thought about a jumper. I guess they're getting to that age.
@hilsy85: Oh man that sucks! So sorry. I would be frustrated and angry too. Especially since it could have meant BFing could be completely pain free for you.
@Beebug: Saw your video. So cute!
A rolled over again today from belly to back. I think he's working on back to belly. He kept getting on his side, but couldn't quite get himself all the way over. He was trying tho! I got him to make the biggest laugh to date! So adorable. It's now my mission to make him laugh as much as I can. Also, I went on a 4 mile walk today. I was only going to walk 3, but then he fell asleep right at the end of the walk so I just kept going. I know he would have woke up if I stopped. The weather has been so nice. It was sunny and 66 degrees today. I didn't even need a jacket.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! You ladies move through this thread so fast it's hard for me to keep up! I read from my iphone all day during feedings, naps, etc but I don't feel like I can reply well enough to everything on there. Soooo I'm going to try to reply to general ideas now while I'm on the laptop
We're definitely going to do BLW and I'm already excited to see what LO likes and dislikes! I have a feeling it'll be really fun!
It's so cool that some of you were able to meet up! I'm jealous. I NEED to find a way to make mommy friends with LOs around Elliot's age. I'm not quite sure how!
@mrskc: So glad that you were able to find a nanny that you feel comfortable with!
@Kemma: Good for you being able to take LO on a trip like that- I'm glad that she did well. I'd be super super nervous...you're brave
@Jenn23: Seriously love your pictures!! Jay looks so tiny- what love!
@hilsy85: Oh my gosh- I'm so sorry about how your appointment went. That's beyond frustrating Especially with all that you've already dealt with. 6 months isn't thatttt much longer though even though I'm sure it feels like it. I'm rooting for you girl

@mrskc: Isn't the weather amazing??? I didn't wear a jacket today either- just a 3 quarter length sleeve shirt. Love it

@Running Elley: I love this time of year in the Central Valley. I feel like winter is the only time you can get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors. I'm already dreading summer! I have trouble keeping up with this thread now too. I read through out the day and then reply once A goes down for the night and I can get on my computer.

@mrskc: I'm dreading summer too Early spring is nice but it already feels like spring now....I keep forgetting that it's only January. Gah.

@hilsy85: I'm sorry that you didn't get a satisfactory result with LO's tongue and lip tie, i can definitely empathise with the pain you still feel nursing! I still have some discomfort / pain when nursing as Miss A has got into a bad habit of only half opening her mouth when latching and her other party trick is trying to suckle before she even gets near my nipple! Is there any chacne you could meet with an LC to see if there's anything you can physically do to improve nursing?
@Jenn23: Love the pics! There's just something so cute and squishy about wee newborn babe's!
@Running Elley: Brave or stupid... I have to admit I was incredibly pleased to get home and put Miss A to bed!
With regards to meeting other Mum's, DH and I were really lucky as we attended eight weeks of childbirth education classes with eleven other couples and the Mum's and Babe's try to meet up for coffee every other week seeing as we're all on maternity leave. The other day we lined up all the babies in order of age and took far too many photo's! I'll put one up on the FB page!
@hellobeeboston: I'm in the Manawatu which is in the lower-central North Island, it's still a pretty nice place to live
Miss A went for her second round of vaccinations today, she actually coped really well and we didn't have too many tears although she's been pretty cranky this evening so hopefully she'll be all good again tomorrow.

@Running Elley: @mrskc: your talk of weather is funny. -18 here this morning, BRRRR! I want our snow back though, melted last week, cold and grass just doesn't look right.

@mrskc: no iphone. I'm that outcast kid still hanging on to her blackberry, lol. I honestly love it. And my work pays for it/let me keep it while on mat leave, so I guess I can't be picky! I don't even use whata limited apps this thing has, lol.

I think I might be getting my good sleeping baby back! Two nights now! Didn't wake til just after 5 to nurse, score.....but the early riser in me will never get back to bed, ugh! Can't complain I guess!

@Kemma: the pics you posted of the babies lined up is so cute, and awesome!!!! What a group that would be! I have never been around that many babies at once!

@Kemma: What an awesome photo!!! That's so great that you have those other moms for friendship and support :
@Beebug: Lol I love our colder weather but the 50s are super cold for us haha, I'd definitely be in trouble if we lived somewhere where the weather wasn't this mild!
Elliot still wakes up twice a night. Anyone else? He wakes up between 1 and 2 and then between 4 and 6. I've tried "tanking him up" more fight before bed but it hasn't made a difference. Last night I tried a dream feed at 10:30 (bedtime is 7) and he drank 2oz but was up at 1am wanting more! Idk what else to do. At 1 I didn't think he could be hungry so I tried other ways of soothing him and he just cried until I finally gave him the bottle. DH wants to hold off on officially sleep training because e is still gassy and we don't want to just leave him in his crib if he's in pain and needs to be picked up so he could burp or pass gas. But he's a big boy and I think he should be able to go more than 4 hours between feedings at night...
squash / 13764 posts
@JoeysMama: @mrskc: @Running Elley: thanks ladies I guess now I just know to be extra conscious of any issues with baby #2!
@Kemma: an LC actually did give me exercises to do with LO to help stretch out his upper lip more, but I have been very remiss about doing them! I am going to try to start up again, at least once a day. The issue is also that I get lazy and let him nurse with a bad latch--bad mommy!
@mrskc: @Running Elley: normally I love living in the NE where we have a real winter, but right now 66 deg and sunny sounds pretty nice!
@Running Elley: hmm he's swaddled at night right? It does seem like he should be able to go longer between feeds...maybe the 1am feeding is out of habit? I don't really know how to fix that though...maybe decrease the amount he gets slowly? No idea if that's a good idea, so maybe don't listen to me, lol. Maybe ask the pedi what he thinks? Does he take a paci?
Two nights ago Leo woke up at 2 and 6 (usually he only has one wake) and I don't think he was really hungry at 6 (barely nursed), but honestly, in the middle of the night, I just want to get back to bed as quickly as possible so I go with the path of least resistance--feeding him! Sleep training is going to be tough for me, I am quick to give in to anything that lets me go back to sleep more quickly!
coconut / 8681 posts
@hilsy85: Slowly decreasing is probably a good idea! I think that one is probably a habit too- the night before last he didn't even drink an ounce before he fell back asleep. Last night he drank his whole bottle but he was really worked up and upset that I wasn't feeding him already since I was trying to just put him back to sleep without a bottle. I'm dreading sleep training for the same reason.... Mama is tired too! ETA: Yepp he's swaddled (that's the only way he'll sleep if someone isn't holding him) and he takes a paci but can't be fooled when he's convinces that he's starving lol!

@Beebug: That's crazy we have been putting Emme to bed an hour earlier, and she slept way better! I didn't think she was overly tired before, but she slept until DH had to get her ready for hte day. YAY for longer sleeping It's nice to have an hour now for adult time at nights.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@hilsy85: @Running Elley: sooo we kind of half tried sleep training the other night because my ped's office sends out an email that recommends starting between 2-4 months. and it was horrible! she woke up at 3am and i let her cry for 30 minutes, and all the while i was on my laptop looking up how long i should let her cry for. then i read it shouldn't be done if they are swaddled (which she is) or to eliminate night feedings (which i was trying to do) and i ran to get her. omg. i felt so terrible because 1) her crying broke my heart and 2) i don't know if i can handle CIO, and that made me worry i'd never have a good night's sleep ever again!! yesterday was a bad day for naps again and so i was feeling so discouraged and miserable, and then she ended up sleeping a 10 hour night. i hate how i get so worked up over her sleep! re: night weaning, i read this website, maybe its helpful?

you ladies with warm weather....i'm so so jealous! it is 28 degrees here this morning
i'm going to a moms group in my neighborhood this afternoon. i think i need to make a point of getting out of the house more often so i don't fixate on her sleep so much.

Last day at work today. Feels strange knowing this is it. I will miss working, but financially it just makes so much more sense for me to be at home with Jay. I'm trying to land a part-time or full-time babysitting job at home so I can earn an income while being with Jay.
@Running Elley: Hmm, not sure why he is getting up so often, but I know some babies just don't sleep as well as others. Hopefully that changes SOON for you! Hang in there.
@hilsy85: Sorry about the news you received. I'm glad you are at least able to nurse, but that stinks you are in pain at times. I can't believe this all could have been avoided had it been done correctly to begin with!
@beebug: The video of her in the jumper is so adorable!!
