My new favorite gear: my Brest friend pillow! I tried one at the lactation office and O. M. G. I love it!!!! We had a rough day yesterday, but I'm happy to announce that today is going so well. LO has been latching and eating well. I'm not crying. All is well.

@Jennimac: Someone gifted us their old one. I haven't even pulled out the Boppy we frigate red for, because this pillow is THE BEST.

@evansjamie: don't bother! I am going to use mine when m&m gets older and stuff, like to sit up in and things. I love this pillow. So much. M&m just latches on. I'm on my phone right now because I don't even have to keep everything lifted and supported. It's amazing.

Ok ladies who lost your mucus plug... how big are they? I'm pretty sure they have to be bigger than what I lost so I'm just curious

  9. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@kjpugs: I lost part of mine and it was about the length of my index finger and that width. It looked like snot.

  10. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@Jennimac: mine was much smaller. Guess I have a lot to go! Looked like snot too (tinged with reddish brown)

@Jennimac: glad to hear you are having a better day. I'm going to have to check out that pillow.

@kjpugs: I started to bleed first and then came the mucousy, snot type stuff described by others. I lost a big chunk then 2 hours later my water fully broke and things got real intense, real fast.

  13. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@Sadieloo: ok so how big is a big chunk? Haha, I'm so curious but scared to google. I can only assume I have a bunch left to lose!

  14. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@kjpugs: I think it was like the size of a quarter, but there was a lot going on down south at that point.

@kjpugs: I lost mine TWO weeks ago and it was a mix between nickel size chunks and long snot like pieces the length and width of my finger. I figured when I added it all up it must have been about the size of a small chocolate chip cookie?

ETA: if you google, you will not be ruined now that you've seen it. Some people post the pics of theirs and they are HUGE in comparison to the pieces I lost.

  17. avivoca

@kjpugs: I noticed blood in my pants when they had me undress at the hospital, then I had a contraction, and I noticed a big snotty chunk in the toilet.

  18. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@kjpugs: not really! Mine didn't even have any blood to it. I never lost any more of it so I can't say much else. But, I'm so excited for you and can't wait to see your updates!!

Congratulations to all of the new mamas!!

W has been home from the NICU for almost 2 weeks now. We're doing well. I'm exhausted with feeding and pumping all the time but we're working on being able to EBF instead of bottle feeding.

@evansjamie: Have you been swaddling? That's been such a huge help for both of my kids. I highly recommend the russian swaddle (and can provide links if you want) instead of the traditional swaddle.

@kjpugs: I lost my plug over the last two weeks of my pregnancy with DS1. It came out in small pieces over that time and I never saw anything big.

  20. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

Yessss- lost more just now! Even bigger this time! (File this under "things I never thought I would be excited about") and still having the abdominal discomfort on and off, a little worse now to the point where I might call it crampy. Nothing at all timeable etc but YAY PROGRESS! Thanks for listening to my mucus plug posts ladies haha

@Sweet T: Hyla is baby Houdini, coupled with us not being great swaddlers. We are practicing, but she likes having her hands up or out.

@kjpugs: Yay! My contractions never followed a set pattern, they just got stronger. I hope this is it for you!

  22. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@evansjamie: I hope so too!! And I'm LOL-ing at little Hyla Houdini I demand pics of her "swaddled" now LOL!

Definitely having crampy pains now that I can only assume are early contractions! Woot! Trying to sleep (unsuccessfully) so I can hopefully wake up when they get bad enough. FX!

  24. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@kjpugs: since I'm up with an early morning feed, I can tell you how excited I am to hear this!!! Yay!!!! Sometimes I wish I had gotten to do the whole, we have contractions/they are gettig worse/ let's head to the hospital/time to push stuff, but that just wasn't our birth story. It does make me feel excited when I read it about others. So, now I'm living vicariously through you! maybe today will be the day!!!!!! Fingers crossed!

@evansjamie: we have to swaddle m&m in two Aden and anais blankets. She usually doesn't break out of them unless she is really fussy. There is some swaddle blanket, think its the miracle one, that is hard for babies to break out of. I'll check with my sister (one of her friends told her about them) and let you know.

How is everyone else doing! :

@kjpugs: OMG! Woke up for a pee break & thought I'd check... Keep us posted!

As for me, I have had cramps off and on since Thursday night, but they are super random. Things are definitely getting ready but nothing close to labor yet...

@kjpugs: Oh my goodness!!!' My fingers are crossed and I can't wait for more updates!

    @daniellemybelle: Ahhh so exciting!!!!'

@Jennimac: So far, she's broken out of one Aden and Anais blanket (I tie a knot in the arms because it's so long). The hospital gave us something similar to the Miracle Blanket, I need to go find it.

Hyla has been congested all night. I feel so sorry for the poor thing. I might go out and get a nose frida since the bulb syringe isn't cutting it and makes her super angry. But first we'll try giving her a bath in the steamy bathroom after one of us has showered to try and let the moisture unclog her nose.

Here's a pic of Houdini before she broke out. She's doing to be a thumb sucker. The second one is after she broke out.

@evansjamie: I am in love with that little Houdini! I hear great things about the nose freida. Also hear of parents wrapping up their child in a wrap that can get wet (so they aren't slippery) and basically co-showering to get the congested kiddo in the steam. Obviously not with water pouring on her! But you get what I mean. Maybe you can try that too! Hope she feels better soon!

@daniellemybelle: YESSSS! I am wondering if my cramps are legit or if they'll be a "few days of this" type situation. Very anxious to see how today progresses. Woke up not much more in pain but lost a way bigger piece of mister mucus plug.

  31. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@kjpugs: great news that you are losing more of your plug! Come on baby!!!!

@daniellemybelle: hope your cramps turn into the real thing too! Let's see more baby's!

@evansjamie: adorable pics and poor Hyla! I hope she feels better soon! Alex isn't fond of being tightly wrapped either. He prefers to have his arms up and out. In fact he was born with one arm up next to his head. I forgot to ask our midwife if it was a charge type position. Ha!

As for our little guy, he now has a belly button! Thankfully much cuter than mine and much less stinky than the umbilical cord! Alex and Sadie (our pooch) are also learning to tolerate each other, it's really Sadie that is having the tougher time, poor girl.

  32. Redmini1

@Sweet T: what's the Russian swaddle? Like @evansjamie I also have a baby that gets out of the swaddle very easily and doesn't seem to enjoy it. We've tried wrapping it ourselves, the Velcro swaddle me blankets, the halo sleep sack and the miracle blanket.

    @kjpugs: yay for progress!

    @Sadieloo: such a cute pic!

  33. ladybee

@kjpugs: Well I thought I lost my plug two weeks ago but the quarter size amount that I just found when I went to the bathroom (TMI) says I did not! Here's to hoping the rest finds it way out soon! You're a week ahead of me right? I hope your cramps turn into something real soon! I've had that yucky period feeling a lot in the last week and about two, random, painful moments a day but so far nothing consistent and predictable. I'm only 38w5d. Fingers crossed for you!!

@daniellemybelle: I'm like you. Random cramps that haven't turned in to anything but I'm a week behind you. I'm not getting my hopes for anything, any time soon. I'm rooting for you though!

  34. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@Sadieloo: Too cute! I think our furbaby will also have a difficult time adjusting to baby once he is here but I plan on snapping a ton of photos of my two loves even if he doesn't like it!

  35. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@ladybee: yeah I'm starting to see that it's bigger than I thought! I lost a much bigger chunk this AM. Hope it keeps coming! I'm hoping this turns out to be early labor and not just something that lasts for a while!

  36. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

    @Sadieloo: I love that picture!

@kjpugs: I know you and I are unfortunate enough to share horrendous period cramps... Mine are often so bad I cry/puke/beg for death. Have your cramps now been like that at all? Mine are period-like but still totally manageable. I feel like until they hit my existing threshold, I just can't take them that seriously!

  37. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@daniellemybelle: EXACTLY the same! I think part of that is what's weirding me out- I'm wondering if they're technically "worse" than what I think and I am just too used to it? I am hoping they get more intense and frequent so I know what's TRULY up!

Reading about everyone's little ones and their progress towards their own little ones. Me? Oh, absolutely no labor signs at all. I'm two days away from my EDD and nothing. No losing of the mucus plug, no contractions (even thought I had a ton last week), no bloody show, nothing... Guess this means that we'll be going in for our scheduled c-section on Tuesday. I was kinda hoping he would come naturally, but I guess he's just too content to hang out in there until Tuesday. Obviously I will have update later in the week with pictures.

  39. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

@TFrances: Sounds like me. I didn't lose my mucus plug, no bloody show until I was induced, although I had contractions but they never turned regular or painful. It was frustrating because I wanted things to progress on their own. I know what you're going through.

  40. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

Guess it was nothing since the abdominal pain/cramping has completely dissipated. Feeling frustrated
