@kjpugs: @tfrances: I can totally understand your frustration. Keep hanging in there. I had zero prelabor symptoms and went a day early. You'll meet your LO's soon!!!

Thanks, ladies! I was able to execute the " happy path" of my birth plan..non-medicated vaginal birth. I was lucky that my labor progressed pretty quickly to make it possible. We are
settling in at home and it seems to be going well. Here is a pic...

@mrs. mochi: OMG holy adorableness! So glad it went really well!!!!
@MapleMoose: LOL have you ever seen the Tyra banks ANTM freak out? "I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU!!! WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU!" That just popped in my head when I saw your comment hoping stuff goes on at night and baby is punctual to her due date!

@Sadieloo: how did yours pickup from zero symptoms (well no pre labor) to giving birth so quickly? I'm wondering how this might escalate.

@mrs. mochi: cuteness overload!!!!!
@kjpugs: and @MapleMoose: that popped into my head too!!!!

@kjpugs: hey! I went into labor spontaneously with very few symptoms. I remember that I felt like I HAD to make sure my underwear was all washed, and we were cooking dinner when I started getting cramps and they came in waves. Prior to that, I had BH contractions and lost teensy pieces of my plug (looked green and snotty). Labor started at 6:00 pm and I had her at 8:55 the next morning. It can happen really fast!
@mrs. mochi: Congrats on having the birth you wanted! I had a non-medicated vaginal birth too. Your little girl is adorable!

@evansjamie: I'm wondering if what cramping I've experienced is BH, or early labor. I guess that's my one really big question mark!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Does it hurt? That's what tipped me off, and the fact that they came in waves.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: that's hard to answer. Yes it's clearly pain (like if this happened early pregnancy I would be VERY worried and call OB) but it's not a bad pain- like maybe a 2-3? I think I'm skewed because I am used to HORRENDOUS, 9+ on the pain scale period cramps. So I dunno if another person with the same would say "oh it's nothing" or "ow this is miserable." So annoying to not know how it compares.

@kjpugs: Darn it! I am in the same boat. Early this morning I was sure I was having contractions, but there's been nada all day. I just want this girl to decide! I am going to the midwife tomorrow and I hope I'm dilated... If I am, I'm going to ask to have my membranes stripped & try to get this show on the road.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: My menstrual cramps aren't usually terrible, but I've had a few days where I was sobbing! nauseated! and in so much pain that it was hard to walk. My early labor was more like the mild cramps, in that I didn't have to stop and focus through them. They were mildly uncomfortable, and I couldn't be crunched up at all. They were mostly in my lower uterus. Once I entered active labor, I really had to focus, move, do anything to help the pain. They were more like my bad cramps, I felt a lot of pain! I was nauseous, and focusing on making low moans and using a lower voice to channel it inward. Just had to do whatever my body told me it needed.

@kjpugs: my labor was pretty long and it started with me going to the bathroom, wiping and seeing blood (around 10 pm). From there it got pretty intense, pretty quick, even though my total labor was 18+ hours. Once I started to bleed, I started to lose bits of the mucous plug and I was also leaking amniotic fluid. Probably 2 hours after this started I lost the rest of my mucous plug and started to get period like cramps. Then two hours after that as I was on the birth ball and my waters broke. Things REALLY picked up after that. My contractions were irregular though - between 45 and 75 seconds long and 2-5 min apart and because of that and the fact we thought my labor would be long, we stayed at home. After 4 or so hours of that my labor totally calmed down. The contractions spaced out and were far less intense (so much so that we sent our doula home). Long story short, we decided to go to the hospital because I had to get checked (I knew I'd get stuck there, but was exhausted and ready for drugs in anticipation of a MUCH longer labor) since my waters broke. Much to the surprise of everyone I was fully dilated and our midwife could see the head. Like 10 min after I got the urge to push big time (earlier it had really only been an urge to have a BM). About 30 min later Alex was born
Like @evansjamie: my initial contractions felt like period cramps. They increasingly got more intense and moved across my abdomen and around my back. The one nice thing was that there was def a peak to the contractions, so I focused on getting to that. Moving, the shower/bath, counter pressure from DH and our doula was really helpful to me.
Not sure this helped or what, but I did have acupuncture on Wednesday (she focused on getting the baby to move down) and kept up with walking, primrose oil and pineapple. Because i worked with midwives I have no idea if and for how long I was dilated prior to going into labor.

@Sadieloo: thanks for sharing the story of your labor! I guess I just realized/remembered that you arrived at the hospital ready to go- I didn't realize how long you did labor! Sounds like the experience went overall really well though! Can't wait to see how mine compares to everyone's.

@kjpugs: @daniellemybelle: Also, I went to the hospital at 4:30 in the morning, because I needed to know where I was. Like @Sadieloo: there wasn't a discernible pattern; they just got stronger, wrapping around my back. I was sure that I hadn't made much progress, but when I got to L&D, I was at a 6.5-7. FYI, contractions in the car are awful. I had one on the exit ramp going around a curve that was awful and I told tony that I couldn't do that again. Once I was checked and had my show, they checked me again and I was an 8. Four hours later, Hyla was born.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: I've heard that about the car! Youch!
Just had a "contraction" (who knows how legit) that is the first I can say hurt in a distracting way (not just oh that's uncomfortable- more like OW.) and while they have been around today, they have been in my abdomen but also back. Hoping so much to be woken up to progress at some point in the night!
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: it was def a long-ish labor, by certainly not as bad as. Though it would be. Easy to say now that it's over! Come on contractions!!!
@evansjamie: really interesting that we had similar experiences. I'd love to hear your birth story if you are sharing. I find them so inspiring. Our 30 min car ride, which I spent on all fours across the backseat (including the car seat) was brutal! I can only imagine what other cars thought when they saw my behind waving back and forth. Lol.

@kjpugs: I'm feeling it, this is your week lady! I saw your pad thigs on IG, I say make some more while you wait haha.
Hope you guys don't mind me hanging out in here, I've got tons of questions and you guys are just ahead of me so hopefully that means I can steal your knowledge. ;p
Nursing is so so miserable for both Jack and I. Are any of you guys supplementing or straight formula feeding? We had to start supplementing because I can pump for over 30 minutes, both sides at the same time and get ~1.5 ml. Jack wasn't getting enough so they're giving him formula in a syringe so he doesn't have nipple confusin and the kid is gobbling up 10ml per feeding, no problem. I thought I'd be more okay with supplementing but dang, there's nothing sadder than a baby crying from hunger and just not being able to fix him talk about mommy guilt. I was naive going into this thinking it'd be no big deal, he'd latch right on and if not io would pump no problem. My nips are a wreck.

@evansjamie: this is exactly what I want. I keep hoping that I've been progressing and I just haven't known it.

@kjpugs: I just woke up with a large chunk of mucus (size of a small cookie) in my mucus soaked underwear and the poops. I'm starting to feel hopeful and I'm also starting to freak the eff out!

@MrsTiz: I'm guessing your milk isn't in yet, right? Just wanted to give you a little hope. Last time my LO refused to latch well and eat until mine was fully in. After that it was a different story. We did have to feed a little formula in the meantime and used a dropper for it. And yeah, I could pump next to nothing that first week but supposedly the stimulation helps.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: Once I can get to the computer or notepad, I plan on writing it out.
@MrsTiz: my milk started coming in on day 3, but prior to that, Hyla was nursing all. The. Time. and my nips were in so much pain. Lanolin really does help, as does hanging out topless and letting them dry. Keep it up with the pumping and nursing, the stimulation will bring it in.

@ladybee: sounds promising! Labor definitely increased my trips to the bathroom. Hope to hear good news from you soon.
@MrsTiz: I am straight BF and can only imagine the stress your feeling. I felt like Alex wasn't latching well and was sure that I was starving him. Of course this hit me at 3 AM and DH was sound asleep. Hat you seen a lactation consultant? I did and it was really helpful. And don't be hard on yourself BFing is no walk in the park.

@ladybee: YESSS!!! I woke up to the same-ish (like holy mucus... and a large BM) and had contractions throughout the night (maybe 4 of them that woke me up enough to know they were happening- and I would, based on the pain, definitely say contraction.)
Who said contractions had a set peak? Whoever did, I noticed that with the one I had this AM since waking up. I've had some pain (back and abdomen) since then but nothing I'd say was strong and "set apart" enough to track. I did track the one this AM and it was about 50 seconds.
REALLY REALLY hoping this progresses ASAP!

@kjpugs: happy EDD day! Great news that you had contractions AND were able tog et some sleep! I mentioned that my contractions had a peak, but others may have as well. Fortunately for me they peaked on the earlier side which made my contractions much more tolerable. I hope today is the day for you!!!
blogger / pomelo / 5400 posts
@MrsTiz: also, I highly recommend the gel pads for pain! Lanolin can only do so much sometimes.

Well we are heading into L&D. My water broke while I was getting ready for work this morning!! I haven't had any contractions but I slept like a champ and I'm showered and decent looking since I was walking out the door when it happened. Eeek! @kjpugs: Hopefully today is our day!

@kjpugs: I feel like your LO is trying to get out! Fingers crossed!
I had cramps again last night for a few hours bad enough that I couldn't sleep or lay down. When I was standing they were hardly noticeable though, so I don't think they were "real" contractions. It went away at about 7am and now nada again. Frustrating! Headed to the midwife at 3pm & I can't wait to hopefully get some answers.

@daniellemybelle: She's much better! We got the boogies out of her nose and her breathing is a lot clearer. I hope your contractions pick up soon!
