@MapleMoose: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! So thrilled for you, what a gorgeous girl!!!!! Who would have thought she'd be SUCH an October baby!

I just updated the list and I think I'm 100% up to date... I also prettied it up a little bit. I can't help myself.

My sweet coworkers at work sent a BBB gift card yesterday!!!!!!!!!! Talk about sweet gestures, it made my day!

I have an appt with my fave doctor today, hoping I'll see some progress and either way hope they'll offer to strip my membranes. DH was in such a horrible mood last night and said it was because he is so sick of waiting. I agree! Hope she decides to come soon!!!

@evansjamie: well, last night I tried feeding her since it had been about 3 hours. I couldn't get her to latch. DH thought she wasn't hungry, I thought she was frustrated because they are so big. Finally,I stopped trying, calmed her down, and she has slept 2 almost 3 more hours. I got up and got in the shower first thing this morning to massage my breasts because they were rock hard. Now I have warm wash cloths on them. Hopefully they will be ready when she wakes up. If we have trouble latching this morning, I'll call our lactation consultant. I ordered a hand pump, but it won't be here until Monday. I may have to send DH out to get an electric one. Oh the pain. Once she latches, she is great, but it's getting her to stay on.

@kjpugs: Aww, I love the list! And love how anxious your husband is to meet your sweet girl! I hope it's a great appointment for you today!

@Jennimac: After I typed that, H had a monster marathon nursing session. Currently, the only way we get any sleep at night is if she is on our chest, and that's great for laying down during the monster session, but not so great when you are leaking everywhere. My boobs feel better, but I'm going to have to pump soon if she won't wake up. My LC recommended cool compresses to soften up your boobs, so if the warm doesn't work., maybe that will?

@evansjamie: that's good. Right now she is still asleep so maybe she doesn't need to eat every three hours.

@Jennimac: I hear you on the engorgement! Mine are ricks when I wake up, but only slightly uncomfortable. It may be because I've always been small chested and am really enjoying filling out.

@kjpugs: the list is looking good! How are you feeling? Can't wait to add you to the babies list!!!

@Jennimac: @Jennimac: I have also had to wake Alex to feed a couple of times and have had panicky moments that he isn't getting enough to eat, despite lots of poopy and pee filled diapers! So much foe never waking a sleeping baby!

No progress. Forgot to ask them about stripping my membranes. Pretty mad at myself and frustrated in general.

@Sadieloo: thanks. I put a call into the lactation store and hopefully the lady will call us back soon. I don't want to try and feed her until she sees what we are dealing with. LO is still sleeping! Maybe she really filled up her belly last night.

@kjpugs: I'm so sorry! I know you are frustrated. But, LO will be here soon!!!

@Jennimac: I think it is harder for the baby to latch when the breasts are engorged. I have the Ina May guide to breastfeeding and it says to hand express a little bit to soften them up - I actually looked up some youtube videos on how to hand express milk to figure out how to do it well, but it's not so bad. My lactation consultant told me that cold compresses were much better than hot for engorgement and to use chilled cabbage leaves - but 2 hours on, 2 hours off so they don't dry you up. I used them the first week alot but have tapered off at this point b.c the engorgement isn't as bad anymore. But they were sooooooo helpful and comfy. It was a sigh of relief every time I applied them!

Oh and I was having a heck of a time getting baby to latch b.c she always had her hands in the way - so I've been swaddling her for feedings which is sooooooo much easier. That was a tip in the Ina May book too. Those Aden & Anais blankets are coming in super handy!

@AprilK: ok. Someone else suggested hand expressing. I just burst into tears when my mom called to check on us. Damn hormones. ill look that up and check it out! Thanks!

  12. Sadieloo

@Jennimac: I'm also having some engorgement issues, but only on one side. I just want to be careful with the feeding and expressing so as to not overstimulate my supply. My hormones have also been a bit whacky, but I do feel that things are starting toms loth out a little.

Agree with @AprilK: that engorged breasts are harder for baby's to latch onto. At least that's what our consultant told me. My LO also puts his hands in front of his face making it harder for me to get him latched. Our consult pant suggested using the hand you use to hold your breast to also kind of hold or pin the baby's arm. It's been very helpful for me.

Is anyone having a hard time getting LO to sleep someplace other than your arms? Right now, H is sleeping in the swing, but the only way we can get any sleep at night is to have her sleep on one of our chests. Which is cute, but I've never intended to cosleep. She did okay in the Moses basket when I showered today, but it's few and far between.

    Copied from my other thread:

We aren't home yet-stopped to get something to eat for lunch--but we left the lactation specialist and she was amazing. I got LO to feed for a long time. We pumped enough to get my nipples out, LO ate for over an hour on both sides, and then I still pumped 2 oz. my breasts are still a little hard, but now
I have options and know what to do to not freak out anymore. Feeling so much better. I will definitely use all these tips too ladies! Thank you!!!

Our hospital is amazing in the fact that they have lactation services for free. LO finally had a dirty diaper and I know she has been eating for the past few hours. I'm going to take Dory's advice and just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

@Sadieloo: I hope everything works out for you! We usually keep LO swaddled when she is eating so that helps the arm issue.

@evansjamie: luckily, mm is good about sleeping almost anywhere. We usually lay her down on the couch between us on a pillow. She does like her pnp. I hope h sleeps in some other places and not just your arms.

We had our 1 week checkup today! Man, you really are late once you have a baby: not five minutes after I dressed H, I had to nurse her because she got so anxious and then she pooped all over her diaper (no blow-out, thank goodness). She has surpassed her birth weight and weighed 7 lbs 12 oz, doesn't have any signs of jaundice, and is pretty healthy! We went to Target after for more diapers, and girlfriend wasn't a fan; I ended up going out to the car and nursing her to calm her down. My boob was totally out and surprisingly I didn't care. My modesty goes out the window just as soon as I hear that baby girl cry.

@Evansjamie: I hear you on modesty going out the window, never thought I would just let my girls out all the time. Also we haven't been successful in getting Josie to sleep anywhere but in our arms. I've gotten her to sleep in the pack & play for a few hours but it's few and far between. She is not a fan of being put down.

@evansjamie: Super cute that she loves to sleep on you guys, but I can see how that would be challenging. Alex is ok sleeping in a variety of places. awesome that h has already surpassed her birth weight! I am with you on modesty out the window. You gotta do what you gotta do!

  22. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@Jennimac: it's def getting better. I think he is already getting used to the nursing positions and preps himself for it instead of fighting it.

How's everyone feeling emotionally and physically? I feel like I want to get back to my more normal self and start to be more active, but every time I try my body really pushes back. Emotionally I am doing pretty well, but man cake I cry at the drop of hat. My grandmother sent Alex a card saying what she hopes and wants for him and it was waterworks for me!

  23. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Redmini1: @Sadieloo: my inlaws are coming for a few days next week and Tony has already told them that I'm nursing and they can expect to see my boobs out. My mom said something about using a blanket to cover up, but I'm of the mind that breast feeding is totally natural and women shouldn't have to cover up, especially when it's 80* outside and you're in the car with a baby on you.

  24. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: I feel fine physically, so I try to do a bit more and my body quickly reminds me that I am at about 50%. I had the worst after pains today, to the point that I had to take medicine and lay on the couch because I couldn't move without pain. Tony is home until Wednesday, so he is literally forcing me to rest and I am so grateful for it. Emotionally, I am a basket case. I feel okay most of the time, but about 3:00 in the morning I get weepy.

  25. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@evansjamie: love it! I have no prob being bare chested in front of women, but men, it's a little weird for me. I've taken to wearing a robe or hoodie most days so it's easy access. My body is pretty much doing the same thing. I went to a mom group today, and well, I will spare the details, but it wasn't pretty. So glad to hear your DH is being a rock star. My DH has also been amazing through this. Except that he never hears Alex during the evening, even if he's next to him and he's crying. That said, he jumps out of bed the second he hears our dog. It's so bizarre! I sometimes feel really emotional in the early morning feedings. It can be a little lonely I think.

  26. Redmini1

@Evansjamie and @Sadieloo: I'm joining the weepy club as well. I think coupled with the lack of sleep, hormones and our breast feeding journey has started out a bit rocky (i.e. Lazy nurser), my emotions are all over the place. I cried at a Carter's clothing commercial. Have you guys seen it? The tag line is you are mine and I am yours or something along those lines. Gets me every time.

  27. AprilK

    apricot / 391 posts

@Jennimac: Um, yeah the hormones. A friend sent us a sappy card and I can't read it without bursting into tears every.single.time. haha... It's great that you and @evansjamie: both have free lactation consult services - our hospital has a breastfeeding support group meeting every week that the lactation consultants attend and we can ask questions and I think they'd answer questions on the phone too, but if I wanted to meet with them one on one I think it'd be a small fee. WAY less than hiring one independently though.
