@kjpugs: oh man, I'm sorry! You are not huge at all. But yay for being recognized as pregnant!

@kjplugs: People can be so insensitive sometimes! Baby bumps are the cutest and I'm sure you look great!

@Sadieloo: Thanks! I think part of it is a lot of people don't know what a truly full term pregnancy looks like since most ladies are like "leave the house? no thanks!" by that point! Also I LOL at your reply to kj PLUGS haha. It's pugs like my dogs!! Did you know you can hit reply and it will tag me (and notify me?) If you type it, it doesn't tag.

@kjpugs: So true! There was a woman in my prenatal yoga class who was just over 40 weeks and had a huge belly. How she was doing yoga, I don't know, but she certainly inspired me! Oops on the kj 'plugs.' Lol. I don't know why I don't just hit reply as you said. So much easier.

Hope everyone is enjoying Father's Day!

@Sadieloo: that's like my friend who has been doing spin classes through most of her pregnancy! Those women inspire me and scare me simultaneously LOL!!!!

@kjpugs: My friend ran a half marathon at 7 months pregnant last December. She's my hero! I so thought I would be one of those women who ran and exercised through pregnancy. Oh well.

Also, exercise balls are the bomb.

  7. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@kjpugs: that's awesome! Your friend is inspiring me. I am still doing th3 stairclimber (the one with stairs that rotate) and feel pretty proud about that. Granted I go much, much slower.

@evansjamie: holy crap! I've seen a few women with bellies running around town and I don't know how they do it. Whenever I run down the street with my dog it just feels weird! Super impressed with your friend!

  8. avivoca

@Sadieloo: me too! Running just feels weird now, especially with the belly.

@Sadieloo: Kudos on the stairclimber I couldn't imagine it. I get so WINDED when I walk up the steps in our house. What does work for me is spinning 2 - 3 times week. It's a great way to control you heart rate. Wear a monitor and dial it back when you need to. I highly recommend it it if there's a good one near you. I find it much more manageable than running (which I quit in week 6). And I'm not saying this to make those of you who aren't exercising right now feel bad -- just a suggestion for those of you who are looking for something fun and active that isn't speed walking.

@corilyns: Thanks for the heads up! I have a gym membership that is just going to waste. Maybe my husband and I will go out there tonight and work out on the bikes! ***ETA I have a HR monitor that came with my Garmin....time to find it!***

  11. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@corilyns: Thanks for the tip! I haven't gone spinning in a long time, but I did go on a long bike ride a couple of weeks ago and thought that the use of my quads had to be good prep for labor and squatting. Speed walking doesn't work for me either

@corilyns, @evansjamie: did your doc's tell you to wear a HR monitor while working out? I read somewhere that ensuring your HR doesn't go above 140 isn't necessary, you should really just listen to your body and not go crazy.

  12. MrsMed

    apricot / 377 posts

@Sadieloo: no, I just use one (sometimes) because I'm a worry wart. And I don't always know how hard I'm working. It helped me track my exertion level. My doctor told me the same thing: If you're breathless, dial it back. so in other words, not necessary to buy o one now just for pregnancy.

@SADIELOO @CORILYNS: I wear a HR monitor when I run (and I did pre-preg, too). My doctor told me to keep up the running (15-20 mi/wk), but keep my HR around 150 or so. Tomorrow is week 24 and I'm hoping to make it to week 28 with the running!

  14. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: No, my midwife didn't tell me to wear one. I just happen to have one since it came with my Garmin (I have the 405CX). I'm actually not quite sure where it is.

@mrs. mochi: Go Girl! That's terrific! I wonder tho, how do you manage to keep your heart rate down? I'll have to bug you about this post-partum, because I always had a hard time controlling my heart rate when I wasn't pregnant.

Re: exercise, I never worry about my actual heart rate, and instead go by whether I feel ok and can still talk
My OB is cool with that as a metric- I do Crossfit, and if I tried to keep my heart rate under a particular number, a.) I'd fail, and b.) I'd never get anything done because I'd be staring at the monitor the whole time.

You ladies are so inspiring with your exercise! I just try to take my dog on a long walk every day and feel pretty good about that.

In other news, I am having a really tough time. Work is supremely stressful, DH is gone for the summer, and I'm depressed. I am just ready for our baby girl to get here so I can move on from this chapter of my life!

  18. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@Lozza: impressive! I have yet to try crossfit. It looks awesome and exhausting!

@daniellemybelle: walking your og is great exercise! Unfortunately, or fortunately, I really have to work out to #1 stay in shape and maintain any bit of muscle and #2 maintain my sanity. I find the gym te best way to de-stress and boost my mood. Sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Can't be easy to be prego and not have the support of you hubs. I hoe baby grl and your pooch are keeping you company and giving you lots of cuddles.

@mrs. mochi: damn girl! Amazing that you're still doing 15-20 miles a week! I've had issues with my IT band and am really hoping that my 'rest' (I.e. no running) will make it better so I can get back to running post-partum.

Wow!!! My only exercise is the walking I do around the house and the walking I did when I was at school for work. I'm so impressed with all of you that are keeping up with it. By the end of the day, I'm really tired and my belly hurts, so exercise would be hard. Luckily, I haven't gained any weight, so I'm hoping that will stay the same. I have plenty of extra cushion, so my doctor told me not to stress about the weight gain or lack there of.

@daniellemybelle: My DH works out of town, so I get you on being lonely and by yourself. It's hard, but it makes me really treasure our time together when he is home or I'm down there. It's hard though!

  21. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

@daniellemybelle: @Jennimac: I get you guys too. DH works nights so we have so little time together. It's the worst!!!! Especially during pregnancy!

And yeah WORKING OUT? Nope. I ran a 5k a week before I found out I was pregnant but that's about it. I've been too sick and had way too much hip pain, unfortunately.

You all shame me. My exercise is running after a toddler. That's gotta count for something, right????

We are getting a bunch of registry items in the mail and got the Ergo today. Um, I have NO IDEA how to use it. I tried it on with my (reluctant) pug Sophie. She was not a fan.

@daniellemybelle: @Jennimac: @kjpugs: I'm joining the missing hubby club. My husband is traveling for work too, so it's just me, the pooch, and the kitties.

Exercise-wise, I walk the dog 3-4 times a day, and I try to get up and walk at work. I am really looking forward to running again.

I just signed us up for childbirth classes. EEK! We'll be cutting it close at the end (the last class is September 29 and I'm due on October 4, but this is the only series where my husband would be able to attend the majority of them.

  29. mrs. mochi

    cherry / 175 posts

@CORILYNS: I cannot run as fast now! I have slowed down my pace by adding an extra minute or so to my pre-preg average/mile pace so that I can stay around 150. It also helps that my husband has been wanting to run with me which means we hold a conversation while running.

@LOZZA: I had my Basal Metabolic Rate testing done before I was pregnant. My max heart rate was a bit higher than the one that's calculated from the traditional formula (220 - age). I shared this with my doc and that's how we came up with sticking around 150 for now.

@SADIELOO: I, too, have issues with my IT band, but I try to stay on top of it by foam rolling after every run to keep it loose and it really does help! The foam roller is also great when using it to do supported bridge pose because I've had some pressure on my tailbone lately.

@evansjamie: So crazy, right?!?! have you done a hospital tour yet? I think you mentioned your working with a midwife, so not sure you are delivering in a hospital. Anyhow, that really makes it all real too. When we did ours, there was a Dad wheeling his 2 hour old newborn to the nursery for some tests -- I almost lost it!

Long time since I checked in! I still feel pretty good! DH and I FINALLY agreed on a boy name. We are going with Matthew Robert. Robert is DH's name. It's not my first choice but I know I'll be happy with it Girls names were so easy, we had like 10 we liked. Of course baby is a boy! I'm going to go register this week so that'll be fun!

@Sadieloo: @ladybee: I'm not doing the classes at my hospital. These classes are offered by an independent lady. I did tour our hospital, but I'll be going again with my husband so he can get the lay of the land.

@evansjamie: Lady, you are just on top of things. seriously. I was reminded to look into day care after you mentioned that you were already touring centers. So keep me updated, so I know what to do. We are meeting with a doula on Friday. I'll register next month probably.

@mrs. mochi: That's great. I"m glad it's working out for you -- it's such an easy, inexpensive exercise. I stopped running with my husband when we were still dating.

@corilyns: I need to set up something with a doula! I keep missing doula night because of work, and I don't want to pick one blindly. Gah. I need my husband to be home instead of traveling.

@evansjamie: Here's to all of you with traveling husbands: may they get home safe and soon! (Chugs lemonade)
