@REDMINI1: Sorry, made a mistake - the classes are not an hour long, but rather 2 hours long!

@Mrs. Mochi: are you finding them beneficial? I feel like I read so much on google, HB and other resources I wasn't sure about them and felt it was more of a have to thing than a want to. I may feel differently once I get into the class though.

@REDMINI1: I do find them beneficial. I know at times it feels long, but I attend the class with my husband. I think it's good for him to learn about this stuff from a third party other than myself. Plus, I think he's learning about different comfort measures he can help me with.

Well the class wasn't too bad, its a little cheesy with the powerpoint presentations and videos (not 70's but definitely made in the 90's). The teacher overemphasizes everything but overall it was pretty good. On the plus side it also caused DH and I to seriously talk about what we both wanted to happen in the delivery room, who should be there, pain meds, skin to skin contact, etc... Next week we get into the actual labor practices and techniques. They did give us a workbook that was pretty funny and also homework. We have to shine a flashlight at my stomach to see if that causes a reaction in the baby, has anyone tried this yet?

@Redmini1: I'll let you know later this week...currently I'm waiting on my first pre-homework assignment for our class on Sunday (EEK)

Baby girl is moving from side to side right now...holy cow, is that uncomfortable! I've got a raw feeling spot on the top of my belly where my bra band is hitting and it's right under that. I love feeling her move, but sometimes (like right now) wish I could take the belly off and sit it to the side when this happens.

    Hi ladies,

I'm in a 6 week birthing class with DH right now and I've found it long, but very helpful. We practice breathing techniques, which will help me I think, when I go into labor because I'll know what to do and try not to panic. The instructor is amazing. She tells stories, encourages us to address our fears and strengths around birth and generally an encyclopedia of knowledge. She talks to us about things I haven't thought of. What i don't like however, are the other people in the class. They are NOT friendly. At. All. I guess I sort of expected it to be a new community -- since we're all giving birth around the same time. Kinda like you guys, ya know? These folks barely make contact much less say hello. Well, not all of them, but it's a small class - about 7 couples and it's not a community. Anyway. I think this has been good because the teacher is so good. So if you sign up -- get recommendations. That way you're likely to find a class that's a good fit instead of watching power points.

@MrsMed: Wow, I'm so sorry the other couples aren't friendly! My co-worker recommended this class, and it's full (12 couples), so I hope everyone is nice.

@MrsMed: I'm sorry the others weren't friendly... that's so strange to me because you are all embarking on something exciting.

So I have a wedding to attend next week, its semi-formal at a Tennis Country Club type event but I can't find anything to save my life... I've checked Gap, Old Navy, Motherhood Maternity, Pea in the Pod, Nordstroms, ASOS... any other suggestion on where to look for a nice dress for a wedding?

@evansjamie: Same here! Baby boy's movements use to be cute, now it's like he's trying to break free.

So now that we are all getting closer, has anyone had any moments of anxiety/holy crap I am going to be responsible for another human being?!?! I've been waking up at night with a few OMG moments.

@Redmini1: Isabella Oliver. IsabellaOliver.com or Rachel Pally -- google it and find if a local boutique carries it. If you need it right away. Otherwise, rachelpally.com. Or try minefornine.com. It's a dress rental site. Ask them to rush it. They'll send you two sizes.

@Sadieloo: I've had a few freak-out moments. I just realized that I'm 33 weeks and this baby could come at any time. Ahhhhhh!

  13. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

I just placed an order for the last of my diapers and detergent so I can start prepping them (because the prefolds take FIVE WASHES to prep), and holy crap, I can't believe that she'll be here soon! What?!?!?!

  14. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@evansjamie: Glad I'm not the only one who is kinda sorta freaking out. 33 weeks is so crazy! I'll be 33 weeks on Sunday so I'm just about there as well. My sister and I were born at 34 weeks (I'm a twin) so I also feel like baby boy could come any day now. So you're doing cloth diapers? I have been considering it but just don't know what to do. With everything else going on right now figuring out cloth diapers is just about the last thing on my mind.

  15. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: We are doing them! We're doing a mix of pre-folds at home and AIO at daycare. When we're traveling, we'll probably do disposables since not everyone in the family is comfortable with us washing diapers in their machines.

As far as when this baby will come, I have no idea. I was a week late and my husband was delivered early (his mom was on bed rest for months due to a placental abruption).

  16. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@evansjamie: That's awesome that you guys are doing them. Everyone tells me they really aren't any more time consuming than disposables. My hubs is grossed out by washing the diapers in the washer we'll use every day.

I have three friends due in August (one was Tuesday and one was today) and neither of them have gone into full labor. I think there's just no way to know. That said, I saw an acupuncturist yesterday and she suggested coming back at 36 weeks to get things moving (and also avoid induction).

Had my 32 week appt last night. Everything is moving right along. Normal BP, No change in weight, her HR was 150 and belly is measuring 32cm. Baby is head down and her ass is right under my sternum perfect location for rib kicks. They had me schedule my dr appts out through the end of Sept.... this is crazy!

@evansjamie: I'm holding off on prepping my diapers till after our shower in hopes that we'll get more of them or i can use my completion discount.

@Sadieloo: I was born on my due date, my lil bro was 2 days late and my husband was 2 weeks early. so who knows at this point i'm just hoping i get to my due date with everything we still have left to do at home and at work

  18. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Chillybear: I'll probably hold off on the AIO's because I won't be using them right away, but I want to get all the prefolds done because they take so long.

@Chillybear: Glad to hear everything is progressing well. I also hope baby boy comes at or after (easy to say now) his due date as we still have a lot we want to do in the next few weeks.

@Chillybear and @evansjamie: what cloth diapers have you guys decided to use? And what made you go with those vs. disposables? Thanks!

  21. Chillybear

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@Sadieloo: We opted for Bum Genius Freetimes 1) closest design to a disposable diaper all in one. 2) great reviews by those who also used them. 3) easily accessible they sell them in our Buy buy baby which means over the last 5 months i've been able to start my stash by using coupons to save money.

It took some convincing to get the hubs on board and he was a little wary about the washing machine too. But if baby had a poop explosion all her clothes would go in the machine. plus no one i talked to had an issue with the washer not processing the waste of EBF babies.

  22. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: We are using GMD prefolds/Thirsties covers for home and BumGenius Freetimes for daycare. There were a few reasons: 1) I didn't feel comfortable tossing thousands of diapers in landfills over the next few years, 2) I'm already going to be doing tons of laundry, so what's another few loads, and 3) Cost savings.

We're fairly crunchy, so there was no convincing my husband; he was on board from day one. I'll probably use a flushable liner so we can flush the solid waste in the toilet.

I've spent a fair bit on my diapers, so here's my breakdown:
    BG Freetimes ($18.95 x10) $180
    GMD Newborn Prefolds ($24/doz x3) $72
    GMD Small Prefolds ($32/doz x2) $64
    Thirsties Size 1 Duo Wrap ($12.25 ea. x 6) $73.50
Thirsties Newborn size cover (bought on Hellobee) $30
    TOTAL: $419.50

I haven't purchased any medium/large diapers or larger covers for home use because I don't know how baby will grow. We're pretty petite people (I'm 5'5" and my husband is 5'6").

@evansjamie: @chillybear I'm planning to do cloth diapers, but am looking for a diaper service. Otherwise, I think our already disorganized house will be in chaos. Especially once I go back to work. But if I do cloth diapers on my own, you guys provided great tips on what to get. So many thanks!

Also, I just managed to negotiate an extra 4 weeks of maternity leave. Woo hoo!

@evansjamie: Can the baby really come anytime after 33 weeks? My 33 week appointment is next week. And we haven't bought a car seat yet. SO MUCH TO DO.

  24. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@MrsMed: We have a diaper service in town and I considered using it for the newborn period. We would have had to purchase our own covers as well, so I decided that if I was going to spend money on that I might as well go whole hog and do the thing myself.

I don't know if the baby can come anytime after 33 weeks, but I know that my husband was early (how early, I'm not sure) and .twist. had her baby at 35 weeks, so I'm trying to get as much ready now as I can.

Well, while all you FTMs are busy buying stuff, I'm busy dragging all my old stuff out and trying desperately to get the stains out with Oxiclean and a prayer! Most stuff is in surprisingly good shape, though. There's a stubborn stain on my Keyfit infant pillow though. Grrrrrrr.

I haven't commented in a while because everyone's posts are stressing me out, haha!

We have a total of ONE (1) diaper. ONE. I keep hoping B's work maybe will throw him a party/shower with diapers or something, or my work might do something, but I bet not.

I just ordered our carseat (in KIWI! Sadly almost full price ($171 instead of $179.99) because BBB is out of stock for another 6-8 weeks aka.. .not risking it.

I went to order our stroller today... yesterday Albee Baby had it in stock, $187, plus I had a 15% off code. Today? OUT OF STOCK. JEEZZZZZZZZZZ! Stupid Britax in kiwi is too popular. BBB has it so I'm going in tomorrow to do a price adjustment for the $187 (since theirs is $250 or something and with 20% coupon it's still more than the $187, I'm going to try to annoy them into letting me use a 20% off coupon on top of it OR honoring Albee Baby's 15% coupon. We'll see.

Our nursery is still full of crap I need to sort through and move. I wish my mom was in FL and could help me... DH is NO help because of his work schedule so I'm just constantly stressed.

I think because I worry about all the costs and responsibility I feel like I have CONSTANT anxiety about my job. I'm the breadwinner (by far) and have a great job working from home, so I really worry about what would happen if I lost it. It would be so hard to find similar work that would pay the same with similar benefits. So I just stress about it all day long. I've had anxiety problems in the past so I know I'll have to talk to someone about this soon. It's eating me up! I think being alone all the time (work from home) makes it worse.

The GOOD news is we have a 3D/4D ultrasound on Saturday morning, so that will be awesome!!!! I cannot wait!!!!

@Chillybear: @evansjamie: Thanks for the advice and tips on reusable diapers. I am still very up in the air about all of it. What to do, what to do!

And once again, I am in total agreement @evansjamie: there is a great consignment shop near us. Fortuantely they often have gently and never used items for 50% of the price! Baby's go through stuff so quickly there is no reason to spend money on brand new stuff.

@kjpugs: Sorry to hear you are so stressed! I totally get where you are coming from. DH and I make about the same and I also work from home (we may have talked about this already, but I can't remember). Because I am a consultant I always feel like my job is in flux and now that have the house and a baby on the way I am constantly thinking of 'what if' scenarios. I have also had issues with anxiety and have found acupuncture to be extremely helpful. In fact I went yesterday and feel like a new person. Maybe it would help you too? And don't forget I have my eyes and ears open for job opportunities in the Montclair area

@kjpugs: ***hugs*** Everything will come together. We were lukcy: our nursery was completely empty when we found out we were pregnant. I'm glad we never bought a guest bed. I stress out about my job too. I'm not the breadwinner by any means, but I work for a non-profit and I know that they don't have to hold my job for me (we're not covered by FMLA) while I'm on leave, so any little mistake or question stresses me out. Would your mom be able to come down for a weekend and help you out?

I would totes send you some diapers if you wanted them!

  34. Mrs. Yoyo

Also, if any of you are still thinking of ordering a glider, get on it! I didn't get one the first time so I was naive, but at BBB all the ones I liked were taking 13-16 weeks. So I went online and found one that will be here ASAP, but I couldn't be picky about fabric. There were still some custom ones that would get here in 8 weeks online, but I just want it so I can get the nursery done.

One more thing and then I'll shut up: Try not to freak too much about stuff ... (Easier said than done, I know!) Tiny babies really need so little. And if you're like most people, they won't use their nurseries much the first few months anyway. I just need mine right away to hide from the toddler
