@jetsa: Haha that's what I'm like - go to Peru now, please and come back quick!! Unfortunately it doesn't look like it will happen for a few more weeks.

@MrsStormy: I'm not sure I'm ready for the life change either - it's so huge!! On one hand I keep clinging to everything we will be leaving behind (sleeping in! date nights! travel!) but on the other I am SO excited to meet this little baby. Such a weird mix of emotions!

I just got back from my 34 week apt, and while I was there they hooked me up to the fetal monitor since I hadn't felt any movement all morning. Baby woke up almost immediately and started kicking up a storm. The Dr told me I was having contractions (!!!) and asked if I could feel them (I couldn't). She didn't seem concerned, as she checked my cervix and it was still high and closed. So no baby for a while! My belly was measuring 36cm though so I wonder if that's a sign I'll go early.

@char54: They aren't worried that your belly is measuring ahead? I measured 35 cm at my 33 week appt and the baby measured 2 weeks ahead at my last ultrasound is what has my dr's worrying.

  3. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@jetsa: She didn't seem too concerned - last apt at 32 weeks my belly was exactly 32 cm, this apt it was 36cm...she just said "Baby's growing well!" She had told me earlier in the pregnancy that the fundal height is just an estimate and can be off +/- 2 weeks.

I wish I had another ultrasound so they could tell if the baby is measuring ahead or not. Maybe next appointment I'll be brave enough to ask for one! Those are much more accurate than the fundal height, I think.

@jetsa: Popping in from October, but I was measuring ahead for a few weeks and now I'm right on track for 32 weeks. My midwife hasn't been concerned. I hope that's the case for you!

  5. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@char54: I don't think they actually are any more accurate. From the little research I've done, weight can be +/- 1 pound on an ultrasound.

@evansjamie: thanks, me too! I meet with her the 16th!

I had my 32 week ultrasound a couple days ago. Baby boy isn't head down yet. He is still sideways. They estimate him at 4 lbs (give or take a lb). My doctor said I will get another ultrasound later on but at this point he is estimating that Baby boy will be around 8 lbs.

@maplemoose: @mrssquirreld; @mrsmoreau; @jetsa: I love the idea of freezer meals but I honestly doubt I will get any accomplished prior to labor. I'm just always so busy or tired and we need to buy a second freezer first and that likely won't happen for a few weeks. I wish you could just purchase them from places. That would be much more my speed.

@char54: Like was mentioned above, at my 20 week u/s I was at 24 but my OB said it was likely just due to my full bladder. The next visit I was back to normal. I have often since then measured 1 week ahead so I guess it's possible he could be a week early - or at least I like to think so. As far as the baby being breech, don't worry too much yet. My OB says 36 weeks is when they start to look at positioning and they can try to turn the baby if you'd like. I honestly think my son flips back and forth often still, so you still have time for yours to rotate back on his/her own. That's crazy about the contractions though! I wish I'd get an ultrasound so that I could know if I was having any. We all get to being checked for dilation soon though! I can't wait!

I had lunch today with my good friend who has a 3 week old baby girl. She was constantly breastfeeding, so I'd definitely encourage purchasing some sort of cover if you don't already have one. She also said she goes through a million swaddle blankets so I think I'm going to pick up another package. Oh and you've probably gotten a million of those free carseat canopy emails, but she bought one and it was actually good quality, so I went ahead and ordered one. Just some words of wisdom I thought I'd pass along.

As usual, I'm really behind with this thread! It sounds like everyone is doing really well though and some of you may be getting ready to meet your LO's sooner rather than later!! At one point, I thought I would go early, but now I can't see it happening... I think I'll go late now. I have no odd symptoms and am actually feeling pretty good, so I just don't think it's going to happen anytime soon... I think she's nice and settled in there!

I had my 34wk appt on Tuesday, baby is measuring right on track and is still head down.. the midwife thinks she just rolled over, so her back is now down my right side, which was confusing me. My iron levels have dropped considerably, so I've been prescribed a supplement. As far as I'm aware, we don't have cervical checks over here and appts will still be only every 2wks up to 40wks, so I'll probably be none the wiser about my progress!!

Anyway, incase you missed it from the other thread, here's us yesterday... don't think my Mum could believe we'd walked miles along the coast at this stage, but oh well!!

    @illumina: awww beautiful!

I had an appt today too! Everything is great! Protein trace is gone so all is great there! AND FINALLY he is head down for the first time!! wooo hooooo! Apart from a Strep B & blood test at 36 weeks I don't see the midwife til 37 weeks!!! Yikes! Feeling really good though now, all my worries are fading oh and there was a tiny trace of blood in my urine, but she said it was nothing to worry about!

@marionberry: I saw your post on classifieds, I'm looking for a bamboo belly bandit as well, have you looked into any of the other options?
I think I might try this: http://www.amazon.com/Underworks-Post-Delivery-Girdle-Belt/dp/B0002UCES4/ref=sr_1_21?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1375967199&sr=1-21&keywords=postpartum+belly+wrap Its a lot cheaper and I had a friend tell me that any compression belt will help.

  13. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@jetsa: yeah I'm looking at other options too. I think the reason why the bamboo belly bandit is so popular is that the bamboo is very soft and breathable- making it more comfortable to wear for longer periods? Bamboo is probably a good option for me since I live in a hot hot hot climate!

  14. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@marionberry: That's great advice! I'm trying to decide whether to splurge and buy a Miracle Blanket swaddler or not...I might wait until LO is here to see if he or she likes being swaddled. They seem so easy and fool proof to use.

@illumina: You look fabulous!!! Good for you for walking so far! I went for a 30 min walk with DH and our dog last night and it was a very slow pace, lol

@Mrs squirreld: Glad your apt went well!! I keep thinking "there's only a few more appointments till baby comes!" SO CRAZY to me!!

  15. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

    @illumina: You look fabulous!
@mrssquirreld: @jetsa: I haven't looked at other options yet. I actually am concerned about the belly bandit because it says the BFF model is better for women with shorter torsos and that's me for sure. Just hard to spend $80. I saw a bamboo one available on craigslist for $40 so I'm waiting to hear if it's still available. I'm wondering though if a good pair of spanx wouldn't do the same trick for less?

  16. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@char54: I know!! My midwife actually said... See you at 37 weeks or when you are in labor!!!! Yikes!! Lol

  17. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@char54: My two friends with newborn babies actually say their babies dislike a true swaddle but in the warm weather they wear less clothes and lightly wrap them in those instead. Plus they are using them for burp rags, changing pads and more in times of need. I love the few A+A ones we have so I'm just gonna pick up another package at target for $35.
@mrssquirreld: I am so happy your bub is head down finally! I'm praying for the same news today! Also so glad your results came back so well!

  18. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@marionberry: Good idea...no way to tell if baby will like the swaddlers or not! I don't want to waste 35$ if I don't have to. I have 4 target A&A blankets and 2 lulujos (the Canadian version) so hopefully that should be enough to get me started. Luckily my mom owns a home decor boutique that also sells a lot of baby stuff so if I need more she's just a phone call away!

@Mrs squirreld: Omg!! It's really happening, lol!!

  21. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@marionberry: exactly, I think they probably would but what do I know

    @Mrs squirreld: ahh, thats crazy!
@Mrs squirreld: they taught it in our birthing class and it seems ok, we haven't actually tried it but both my dh and i know how its 'supposed' to work. The reason they gave for doing it actually made sense to me; they said if you are doing it right (very very tight) the baby feels protected the way it did in the womb.

  22. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

    @illumina: You look great!

@jetsa: Hadn't seen that one. Wonder if it's as breathable as the belly bandit?

@marionberry: Hmm.. I also have a short torso so the BFF might be a better option for me too. Have to look into this.

@Mrs squirreld: It's getting closer and closer! Eeeek! They taught us in our birthing class, but I had a dream the other night that I forgot how to swaddle and was looking it up when dream-DH caught me and he remembered how to swaddle so he rubbed that in my face.

  23. MrsStormy

    clementine / 818 posts

@Mrs squirreld: I haven't tried swaddling, apparently at our hospital here the nurses give you a lesson on the best way to swaddle TIGHT. I have tried my moby with a teddy though, and yeah I'm not real sure I'm going to figure that one out, I need to find someone in town to give me a lesson!

  24. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@MrsStormy: OMG yes on this. I need a lesson. I can go to my hometown and there's a store that will show you but it's driving 45 mins each way with a babe.

  25. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

I found there was a huge difference between being shown and trying to do it yourself! Lol.... Plus a baby will be squirming! Guess it will take practice!!

  26. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Mrs squirreld: I haven't tried it yet in real life. Maybe I should try your teddy idea. That would be a good way to practice. Otherwise I think people are right about nurses usually showing you.

  27. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@Mrs squirreld: usually they will give you tips in the hospital - there are a couple different ways to do it. DS HATED being swaddled in the little swaddle pouch things that have the velcro. i had to use a receiving blanket for him. i laid DS down on blanket with his head at the corner (with about an inch or two of blanket around his head), then wrapped the left side corner across his body and tucked it behind his shoulder/arm , folded up the bottom corner, then wrapped the right corner around. he looked like a little burrito. that was the only way he liked it, and even then he only wanted to be swaddled for about the first 4 days haha.

Just got back from my doctor's appointment. My OB thinks baby flipped but isn't totally sure, which is annoying. And apparently he's on vacation when my next 2 week visit is, so I am going in a few days early for my next appt and then will see another doctor in the practice the week after that I guess.

Our DD acted like swaddling was torture so we gave up until I talked to a friend with a baby 4 weeks older and she recommended trying again and the little stinker ended up loving it. We used the Swaddle Me with Velcro because they were so easy but, once we had relaxed and gotten used to baby a bit we could both do it with a regular blanket.

I had my 33 week appt on Tuesday. Everything looks good -- BP is perfect and I did not gain any weight in the two weeks since my last appt so maybe I will be able to stay under the number I had in my mind!

I go back at 35 weeks and then have a sono at 36 and weekly appts from 36 weeks until I deliver. The baby is head down and has been that way every appt so hopefully it will stay that way.

I have been practicing my hynobabies relaxation and breathing and look forward to going into labor. My doctor will let me go until 41 weeks before we start talking induction so it is just a slow crawl to the end now...lol

I have not had my shower yet (it is a surprise). @char54 my husband is going away in two weeks to Russia. I am not that worried about going into labor that early but the beginning of Sept is a little scarier for international trips

  31. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

i am beginning to get really worried about going into labor at work - it is about a 45 minute drive home, which isn't too terrible... but i am worrying that this time around will go much faster and I am having horrible visions of my water breaking at the office!!!
i am just being paranoid - but that is my latest obsessive worry.

  32. MrsStormy

So its been a fun day, my work surprised me with a little luncheon (I asked that they not throw a real shower which they normally do). It was really fun and special, everyone got me there favorite childrens book and I got a package with all the little things from my registry we hadn't gotten.

  33. MrsStormy

Also I know this was sort of being discussed earlier, but are people going to get cervical checks? My next appointment (36 weeks) I'm supposed to get my group B strep test done and get my first cervical check, I sort of want to skip the cervical check, but the Dr. uses that time to do a little perineal massage and show you how to start doing it and I don't want to skip that, so I'm not sure what to do....

  34. MrsClownfish

    cherry / 199 posts

@mrsstormy I start getting cervical checks at 36 weeks. I wanted to decline thm but it looks like my doctor is not going to go for that... I am going to talk to him about it again at my 35 week appt

  35. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@mrsmoreau: I worry about my waters breaking anywhere but home! lol.. I think I might start wearing a pad just in case!
@marionberry: I'm sure he is head down! I feel bruised today from where the midwife pressed around trying to work it out... ( she finally gave up and pulled out the U/S machine!) I think she said bub was spine to spine..so hopefully he twists around and I don't have back labor!
@MrsClownfish: I have been practising Hypnobirthing too.. It's making me feel more calm about labor I need to practise my J breathing more... I'm not very good at long breaths out. You are super amazing at being calm for your DH leaving internationally at 35 weeks! I don't think I could be! I freaked out when he flew a few hours away randomly for work the other day! lol
@MrsStormy: Since I have moved I now just see a midwife at the hospital where I am going to give birth.. they are pretty laid back, I don't think I will get cervical checks unless I ask.

I also have to DIY my Strep B test for 36 weeks. They just gave me swabs and instructions and told me to drop it off at the lab!! Yikes!

  36. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@MrsStormy: I had one at 34 weeks because the monitor showed I was having contractions. Everything was closed up which was reassuring to hear, but it HURT. I assume at my next apt (36 weeks) they'll check again

  37. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@mrsmoreau: I have the same worry! I plan to work until the final moments, so I'm just praying it doesn't occur while I'm presenting in front of our board or something. In my office I won't care as much although it would still suck. No way I could wear a pad as most of my work outfits require a thong. Blah!
@mrsclownfish: I'm so jealous of your lack of weight gain but so happy about your BP! I hope your LO holds out for DH to get back.
@mrsstormy: I had a friend who did cervical checks and a friend who chose not too. From their experiences and my own personal wants, I'm actually excited to do it. I know it can be painful but I would like to know when I'm getting to 2 or 3 cm dilated versus just wait and not know. Mine start at 36 weeks as well.
@mrssquirreld: I've often worried if my son is "sunny side up" too since I feel so many of his movements in the front. Right now I think he's facing my left side though. I suck at J breathing too. Mostly I breathe through my nose so mouth breathing is hard. I'd rather be like you and get to swab myself though..way less awkward than my male OB swabbing my butthole.
@char54: My understanding is that they do check at every appointment past 36 weeks, at least in my practice.

  38. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@marionberry: oh that made me laugh so hard... When my midwife was giving me instructions, she's like "this swab is for your back passage" and I said "back passage?" Lol shame... Makes me laugh though!!

    So far behind!
I'm with some of you on feeling a little overwhelmed about this major life change happening in 40 days (!!!!!) but am really excited to meet our son. So many mixed emotions...
I can't believe we are at this point -- it feels like a month ago that @marionberry started this thread and we were all just starting to get to know each other!

As for me, this last week and a half has been one of the most stressful, emotional, rough times I've had in a really long time. The move was a nightmare, logistically, and it was supposed to be "easy" because we hired the movers to not only pack us but unpack us as well. It was so bad that the company ending up refunding us 25% of the total cost, which is unheard of. I also did not expect to feel so attached to our last apartment...we'd only been there a year, but it was our first home in CA and where we thought (before deciding to move only two months ago) we'd be bringing home our first baby...I don't know, it just hit me a lot harder than I expected!
I've been super hormonal and weepy all the time, which I haven't experienced at all this whole pregnancy I think it's just stress. I'm glad we're in the new place but all I want to do is set up the nursery, but the rest of the apartment needs to get set up, too! Over. Whelmed.
I'm also feeling really huge, my hips hurt, my legs and ankles are swollen, sleep has been a joke...I'm trying not to complain because I've had a pretty easy go of it so far, but gosh I'm ready to not be pregnant anymore.
    Ok, whine-fest over
