September 2014 Mummas - Come out where ever you are!

I never had the glucose test with my first pregnancy but am taking it in a couple of weeks, I didn't get any instructions not to eat anything, just to drink the drink an hour before the test. Fingers crossed I pass.

More exciting news, we're going on holiday next week. We've been debating whether to go away this year or not for ages and in the end decided to go for it, we're having a week on the beach in Spain in an all inclusive resort. Really looking forward to it but first I need to find a bikini that actually fits me. Not only have my boobs gone big but my behind is massive...have a feeling I'll be wearing a cover up tied round my hips for most of the week! Any one else have this problem?

@Boogs: Awesome news!! Very happy to hear it's not something serious!

@London Mama: So jealous of your vacation! My husband and I were just talking about how we wish we could take one. Can't help you on the bathing suit front...with the amount of bright purple stretch marks I have (on my butt and thighs, mind you) I won't be getting in a bathing suit anytime soon!

@gingerbebe: @Littlebit: I just ordered 3 coobies because of you! I have already bought new bras twice this pregnancy so I'm hoping since these are a "one size fits all" approach I can keep them. I'm past a 34DD at this point so I'm skeptical, but we'll see!

@torchwood: My test is in a couple of weeks (was supposed to be next week but I'll be in Italy for 10 days...yay babymoon!). The instructions they gave me were to eat a high protein breakfast before I get there (it's in the AM) without carbs. So I'll probably have egg whites with cheese or something like that. And I'll take almonds or something for after.
Although, now I'm wondering - I'm doing the test the morning after I get back from 10 days in Italy...maybe a bad idea after a week+ of pasta and pizza? I'm going to call and ask. But may not have a choice since it's already a week after when they wanted me.

Sorry I've been MIA, just haven't been on HB a lot lately. Lots of weddings and travels and work obligations. I've been reading along, just silently.

@boogs: glad everything is ok! So scary!

@London Mama: yes and yes. My boobs have exploded and my butt and thighs have too. I am going to Italy as I mentioned and half the trip is Amalfi Coast, where I'll be in a Bathingsuit a lot. I am getting some one pieces and need a wrap for my waist! I hate everything from the hips down right now. I feel like a beast.

Other updates, I have hip dysplasia and met with my orthopedic surgeon last week. He is suggesting that I have my OB put me in the positions for labor so that I can get a feel for it. I don't have full range of motion in my hips and he's afraid that if I have an epidural I won't feel my body's cues of "that hurts" and do more damage (already have significant cartilage tearing in both hips). So, it's looking like a c section is very possible, but I always knew that with my hips. But for some reason it's a little more disappointing now that I actually am pregnant than I thought previously. I'm not majorly bummed or anything, just feel a little like I'm missing out? Which is probably weird.

Anyway, glad to see that everyone is doing pretty well (for the most part)!

@London mama I am heading out for a little babymoon this weekend and bought a bunch of cheap bathing suits from Old Navy (I don't think you have them in UK, its a Gap brand) to get me through. My chest has exploded from a C cup to a G cup so covering them up is a big challenge. I feel a bit silly in a bathing suit with my big belly but I guess I don't care enough to wear some big cover up or one piece the whole time!

@sweetiepie that is a bummer about the csection but I guess in the long run, you do not want to damage your hips

@tequiero21: Thanks! Great luck for you with that chocolate croissant lol.

@London Mama: Wow I bet Spain is going to be lovely! And yes, definitely spread a little behind also.

    @Littlebit: Thank you!

@SweetiePie: Thanks! So nice, I bet Italy is going to be gorgeous! Bummer about the c/s, but it definitely sounds better than the alternative with your hips.

@psw27: I've had luck so far with an ON top I got for my last pregnancy. Didn't realize it was a small, so need larger size. But, it had held up well, especially since I've used it even when not pregnant and fairly often.

@London Mama: Topshop has some cute maternity bathinguits! I actually ordered some last week and they came yesterday. Unfortunately they didn't work for me (they are too big, which I knew the sizes I ordered were bigger than my usual size but I hoped they'd work since I've put on some weight and my boobs are huge), but its worth a shot! They seemed like nice quality for the price:

@SweetiePie: lucky duck! I loved Italy! And next time I go, it will be to the almafi coast! Sorry u are disappointed u may have to get a csec, but it really wasn't bad at all for me. I definitely prefer it lol. Especially if I had bad hips.

We decided to go on a babymoon too! Not sure where. We were thinking Turks and Caicos, but everything I read was that it's great for beaches and water sports, and I can't do any water sports.... So maybe we will take the kids next time. So now I'm sorta back to the drawing board. My hubby threw out Europe, but seems kinda far and I only have five days. Maybe one of the Caribbean islands? Or go back to Mexico, maybe playa del Carmen, we loved it there last time.

@tequiero21: I loved Cabo if you're looking for something like that. It's gorgeous, relaxing, posh (if you want it to be) but also has a lot of casual options too (for food and stuff). They also have dinner cruises to see the arch, dolphins, etc.
We went a couple years ago and loved it.

    So jealous of everyone's babymoons!

I would honestly be thrilled for a night out with my husband. I'll have to find a babysitter

Super jealz about the babymoons. We had to cancel ours because of the stupid previa. Doctor told me I'm not allowed to leave town and even the mountain lake resort near us is 2 hours away. DH does not want to have to try and get me medical care if something happens up there, so I turned in all my vacation days and will just save them for baby I guess! My friend is getting married in Maui next October so we'll be able to go on vacation again eventually.

Had my regular appointment today. Nothing new, except that now that I'm past viability, the doctor says that with a complete placenta previa, if I have a bleed I will be hospitalized until I deliver! Boo. We're having my 28 week ultrasound on June 26th, so fingers crossed the placenta will have moved out of the way. If not, the ideal situation will be no bleeds and a scheduled C-section between 36 and 37 weeks.

The idea that we may be meeting our son in like 10 weeks is crazy to me. Its only been in the last 2 weeks that I've gotten a definite belly and regular kicks, so its totally surreal. And I'm only up 3.1 pounds since my first OB appointment (granted I started my pregnancy like 15 pounds heavier than usual and I was extremely bloated that first appointment). We have a bag of baby clothes, but that's it! Time to get the bedroom organized and get some stuff I guess!

@ Sweetiepie: thanks for the links, there's some really cute stuff. I work withing walking distance of Topshop's flagship store in London so can go try some things on to make sure it fits. I tried to squeeze myself into my old two piece suits but it just looks indecent, too skimpy and not enough coverage.

  13. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@London Mama: Oh that's great! I live in NYC and we have a nice topshop but they don't carry maternity. They're opening another large store near my office, so I hope it opens soon and they have maternity

@tequiero21 I second a vote in favor of Cabo, I went on my honeymoon there and I loved it!

I cannot wait to be on our babymoon tomorrow. This has been the worst week! Yesterday on my way to work this younger man ran into me on the street and hit me so hard in the stomach. I did what any sane preggo would do and screamed at him and then burst into tears... I'm fine and LO kicked all day long but I was really shaken up. Then my boss tore into me about my work in the afternoon, so I basically spent the day crying in my office. Oh hormones, you are a joy! I will take a fruity non-alcoholic drink and a beach chair, ASAP!

Aaaannd I didn't pass the 1 hour screening, so next up is the 3 hour. At least this time they gave me instructions. And I can go any day I want, no worrying about a specific appointment. But still, ugh!

  18. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

Cause obviously this pregnancy/baby isn't jacked up enough. Let's add GD to the list of issues! I know I could still pass the 3 hour, I'm just frustrated. I'm at appointments every 2 weeks, will be up to 2/week soon, and I just don't want any more crap!

@torchwood: Bummer! If it makes you feel any better, last time I failed the 1-hour test but ultimately passed the 3-hour. Still sucks to have to do it.

Well, it's not Cabo, Italy, Turks and Caicos or anything super exotic or exciting, but I just booked flights for DH and I to go on a (child-free!) weekend to Boston later this month. I have never been, so I am actually pretty excited. And we haven't been on a trip without DD since she was born, so that should be fun, too! If you have any recommendations, let me know!

    honeydew / 7968 posts

@SweetiePie: @psw27: is that cabo San Lucas or Los cabos? Or is that one and the same? Or another cabo? Lol.

@Torchwood: ugh, sorry about your test, that really sucks. It's annoying that they didn't give u instructions the first time! Good luck!

@Pancakes: have fun in Boston! Anywhere away without the lo is always relaxing and stress free! And u can wake up whenever u want!

  21. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@tequiero21: I think that Cabo San Lucas is where you ultimately want to stay. Cabo San Lucas is IN Los Cabos...Cabo San Lucas is the nice part of Los Cabos.
I think. You may want to Google to be sure.

  22. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Torchwood: Ouch , that sucks But hopefully it was just a fluke and you pass the 3 hour with flying colors! When will you go?

  23. tequiero21

    honeydew / 7968 posts

@SweetiePie: darn, looked really nice, but flights are 7-15 hours. Too long! When I'm not pregnant, I will definitely check it out.

  24. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@tequiero21: Oh, what about Puerto Rico? We went to San Juan, PR a few years ago and it still one of our favorite vacations. And its a close flight (I'm near you and I think it was 2-3 hours tops).
Oh and Key West, Florida! Love!

  25. tequiero21

    honeydew / 7968 posts

@SweetiePie: i was thinking puerto rico. i went there with some gfs right after college...was so long ago. trying to see what there is to do there. i remember going on a rum tour, but my hubby doesn't like rum and i can't drink anyway. all i remember is trying creme brulee for the first time there and it was amazing. any recommendations?

  26. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@tequiero21: We did a tour of the Castillo de San Cristobal (a fort)
    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147320-d148186-Reviews-Castillo_de_San_Cristobal-San_Juan_Puerto_Rico.html

    We liked that a lot.

We also spent some time just walking around Old San Juan, went to dinner there, went to see flamenco dancers...honestly couldn't tell you were we went for the dancers, but it wasn't a cheesy place. It was a regular bar and that nigth they had live dancers. It wasn't a regular "show" or anything but it was fun!

And then we just relaxed a lot at the pool and beach! Had dinner on the beach at sunset which was really nice.

We also had a really nice trip to Cancun once...it can be nice, relaxing and "adult" vs spring break if you stay at the right place.
Also stayed somewhere about 30 mins outside of Cancun which was heavenly and super relaxing..but middle of no where! You basically stay on the resort the entire time, can do all-inclusive or not.

Let me know if you want any specific details and I will wall you!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: We aren't having a baby moon, so I'm super jealous like you!

@Torchwood: So sorry you didn't pass, but if it makes you feel any better I failed the 1 hour, but passed the 3 hour with flying colors. So, it's possible you will also!

@Pancakes: Boston was so nice! We really enjoyed the duck tour we took and you have to get a sticky bun for me at Flour bakery! You should wall winniebee, when I went she gave me a ton of great tips!

@pancakes I live in Boston, so me know if you want any recommendations. Boston is such a great city, especially when it's not snowing

    Any fun baby purchases lately?

I told myself no more buying clothes until after my showers (my husbands family doesn't really do registries. They do lots of clothes!) but I went to Kohl's the other day and couldn't resist these two!

The 'Luck Me' outfit was on clearance from St. Patricks Day. Got it for $4.40 and bought it in 6month size, so he'll have something to wear next year. The 'Local Hunk' outfit I bought in 9month so hopefully he can wear it next summer! Couldn't resist the dog and cute little shorts.

On another note..Not sure if there is a thread for nursery pictures? as i try to follow along on here but these days just seem to be flying by and so busy! Anyone have theirs almost finished? i'm so excited that ours is pretty much done Heres a few pics!

@Littlebit: Cute stuff! We haven't bought a single thing just because we have everything from LO#1. We do need to make some larger purchases, but more than that we just need to get organizing.

@Mrs.Hawk71: I love everything about your space, you did a great job!

@tequiero21: We stayed at The Grand Mayan the first time - which isn't all-inclusive. Beautiful but REALLY big resort! The most recent time we went we stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach - which is all-inclusive, adults only. Heaven on earth.

Both were INCREDIBLE, but I prefer the all-inclusive just because you don't have to worry about how much you've spent. Though if you're pregnant and not drinking it might be better to go to a place that isn't all-inclusive, because you might not get your moneys worth?

Thanks for the commiseration on the GD test. I go back tomorrow morning (early, hooray! I'm SO not a morning person), so we'll see I suppose. Fingers crossed!

@Littlebit: Those are cute! We haven't made ANY purchases, which seems crazy since LO could be here in 7.5 weeks, but we're waiting for my showers (only a week and two weeks away!), and we want to see what we get.

Speaking of showers, how big are ya'll's? One of mine, the one my mom is involved in (parents are divorced, so other one is in another city with my dad's family) is going to have 80 people invited! A lot of those are out of town folks who likely won't be able to come, but it seems nuts! Keep in mind that only 5 of those people are my friends, another 20 or so are fairly close family that I see more than once a year (or less). The rest are extended family that I barely know and my mom's friends, some of whom I've literally never met. (Her words, "well, you've never met [random person] but she'd want to come.") I'm wondering if it's a regional thing, being in the South, or maybe it's normal and I'm the weird one. Oh well. We'll get more gifts, and I guess I don't mind them potentially thinking I'm being all gift grabby, since I don't know them anyway? And I'm really excited anyway.

Also speaking of showers, what are ya'll wearing to yours? Where would you look for something on such short notice? I don't really want to risk going with online on such short notice (they just decided to do my shower in Memphis next weekend 2 days ago, so I had no notice), in case whatever I get doesn't fit. And I can't really just hit up thrift stores like I normally do when I'm looking for something specific. Thoughts?
