@Torchwood: my husband and I went ring shopping for my first Mother's Day. It was kind of coincidental, since it was about that time (with Chloe) that my rings got snug.
I've always wanted a plain white gold band, so he got me one. We paid less than $100 for it & whatever the stock size was fit me, so I didn't need anything sized.
It's definitely not my every day band, but I do wear it during pregnancy or sometimes if we travel.

Anyone have some thoughts on getting some more maternity pants/leggings? As in, fit like leggings, all tight and stretchy, but thicker, more like stretch pants? They're my favorite thing to wear, but all mine were random finds at goodwill. I'm not used to shopping for specific items, and I suck at it!
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Torchwood: I have a pair from Old Navy. Its like a stretchy cotton material that I find pretty breathable.

My rings fit the whole time my last pregnancy and so far so good this time also.
Has anyone had their DH ask about push presents? If you could pick something, what would you ask for?
nectarine / 2180 posts
My rings fit the whole time last time, too. Hope they'll continue to fit this time.
@boogs: I'm pretty sure my DH would never ask about a push present...but I would want a cleaning service or newborn photography, I think.

Friday afternoon before a long weekend and I'm counting down the minutes until I can go home! Sitting on my exercise ball instead of my desk chair and keep catching myself bouncing up and down without thinking about it, must look funny to anyone who sees me. What are your plans for the long weekend?
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@Pancakes: Mine knew I was disappointed last time. He intended on doing something, but didn't expect me to go early and wasn't prepared. He felt bad himself because he said with my scary birth I definitely earned it and he wants to try to make up for it this time, which I think is sweet. Part of me wants to give him ideas, and the other part kinda wants him to think of it himself.

@London Mama: I didn't even realize it was a long weekend. DH works part of it, so we aren't doing anything special here.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@London mama I'm flying 6 hours to visit my MIL and DH's extended family. It should be fun but I am dreading the long flights and jet lag Hopefully I zonk out on the flights!!
@boogs I don't even know if my DH knows about push presents! He can figure it out on his own, I'm not too worried about getting anything.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Boogs: I think DH has heard of push presents, but I haven't really given much thought to it. Ideally I'd want a band of some sort to add to my wedding set, but I'm way too practical for that given that I'm taking unpaid leave for a longer maternity leave. Besides, I want a really pricey band that's more appropriate for a big anniversary.
@London Mama: My mom is coming for 24 hours (she never misses church). She wants to come and batch cook a bunch of food for my freezer and just see how I'm doing. I'm looking forward to seeing her BUT its meant a lot of cleaning and organizing around the house because I hate having people in my space if isn't clean. Our garage is hoarders status right now and DH was SUPPOSED to clean it today, so we'll see how far he gets when we get home from the airport. Once mom leaves tomorrow, we're not really doing much except having dinner with some friends on Sunday night. Perhaps I'll keep organizing the house to get it ready for baby!

@psw27: That is a long flight, don't forget to get up and walk around!
@gingerbebe: I'd probably like a band with both LOs birthstones, but I always feel bad about wanting expensive stuff since I think of everything we could buy with the money.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Boogs: Yeah, our original due date is in September (sapphire birthstone) and of course my engagement ring is a sapphire, so its tempting, but I really want an anniversary band like this someday so I will probably need to wait a good long time.

That said, if he's born early via scheduled section in August due to my previa, that would make it a peridot birthstone, which is much more affordable. Off to look at peridots!

@gingerbebe: Super pretty! I love sapphires so I think diamond and sapphire rings are so pretty.

How far along are you? 22w 3d
Where are you at with the nursery? Tiny little apartment, so we are turning the living room into the nursery. It's a huge mess right now, lots of random stuff I have trouble getting rid of. We're not allowed to paint, but my parents did order the crib and matching dresser off the registry so we (mainly I) have a LOT of throwing out/donating to do before we can move them in.
Have you decided on a name? If you feel like sharing, what is it? Charlotte Helen, which we picked out eight years ago, a couple months after our first date. (Although technically I picked out Charlotte when I was a little girl.)
Do you think you'll go early, on time, or late? With my older brother, my mom had to wait a full month. So if it's hereditary, I will have to wait a while.
What's your favorite time wasting website besides HB? Facebook. Candy Crush is my kryptonite.

Holy. Swelling. My feet and ankles ballooned so much Saturday afternoon that I had to wear flip flops to a wedding. I couldn't get any of my heels on my feet.
Today they're swollen again, but not like they were on Saturday. I even slept with my feet elevated but nothing changed.
I weighed myself today for the first time in weeks and I am up 20lbs exactly. I wonder how much of this is water retention? I'm swollen!

I'll go back and catch up in a bit, but need to post first. This weekend was interesting. We went to Atlanta for our anniversary, which is about 4 hours away. We walked to most places there, since we stayed in a hotel that was convenient to everything and right next to the train station. Unfortunately all that walking seems to have been bad for my tendency to have a TON of BH's.
It got to the point Saturday afternoon that they were less than 2 minutes apart. ANY other time I would have gone to the hospital, but we were on our way to/at a Braves game. For one thing, short of calling an ambulance there was no way to get to a hospital that wouldn't have involved MORE walking, whereas staying meant I could sit and have some water. And we never, ever do what DH wants to do on our trips, because he's the type to always try to spoil me and do things for me. And he loves baseball more than anything, and his uncle is hitting coach for the Rockies (who they were playing), so it was a big deal to him. Since I was having no bleeding, pain, mucous-y discharge, or other signs of true labor, I felt like it was dehydration and overexertion. So we stayed and when we got back to the hotel I took a bath and they slowed down to every 10 minutes or so, so I let it go.
Yesterday we came home, and they were much slower but still, every time I stood up or walked around, immediate BH's every few minutes. Same today. So at this point, obviously I need to at least call and talk to a doctor. And yes, I should have sooner, but it's a holiday weekend, and I didn't want to get sent to the hospital in Atlanta, and now they seem so minor it seems less urgent. But anyway, my problem is I don't know who to call. I'm not seeing the midwives anymore, because they don't handle high risk. I haven't seen the new OB yet (I go in on the 3rd for my glucose test, so I'll meet them then). And the OB's I do know are part of the MFM and I only see them for LO's care, not mine. So if I call someone tomorrow, once they're open again, who do I call? I don't even know the name of the new OB's yet.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@Torchwood: Hi there, I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago where I was scared about some swelling but didn't know who to call since I was in process of moving from my old OB to a new practice.
I was told that my OLD OB was required by law to help me for 30 days from request for records. I know your situation is slightly different because you didn't CHOOSE to leave the midwives, but I would think that while you're in a transition period, and since it's not a specific question about your high-risk LO they should at least be able to say "just relax for a few days" or "go to a hospital".
But, this is just my hunch, no real experience besides mine which is a little different.
I also think that if you called the new practice, as long as they have your records they could also advise. Basically a woman isn't supposed to be without any medical "coverage" during pregnancy so I don't think either practice would say "sorry can't help". If anything they might be extra cautious to avoid liability and say "just go to the hospital".
Hope this helps...sorry I don't know more! But I'm sure everything is ok and you just overdid it a bit. Try to just lay and relax until morning. xoxo

@Torchwood: make sure you look after yourself! I know it's frustrating to take it easy but overdoing it isn't a good idea. Hope you get through to a midwife/doc who can help you out.
I've got 3 months left in the office until maternity leave starts Sep 1 and it feels like an eternity. Is anyone else struggling with keeping their motivation levels up at work? Perhaps it's just the return to work after the long weekend blues that's talking, I could so get used to having three days off every week!
I have a check up appointment today and am looking forward to hearing the heartbeat. I'm a lot less worried in the week leading up to appointments now because the baby's movements are much stronger and much more regular so I get little kicks of reassurance every now and again. DH still hasn't been able to feel the kicks but I have an anterior placenta so that's probably why.
I got a real bargain on ebay yesterday that I'm really chuffed about, I got the Stokke Tripp Trapp newborn set with an extra set of spare covers for about 40% of retail price. I've been watching similar items for weeks and they all go really expensive, especially when you add postage for a bulky item. Yesterday I found one for a really low buy now price 5 minutes drive from the house! It's my first baby gear purchase so hence why I'm excited. Anyone else buy anything baby related recently?
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Torchwood: If things aren't urgent at the moment, I would start by calling your midwives or your old OB. They'll probably get the ball rolling in terms of who to talk to and what to do.
But if you feel like time is a factor, I would call L&D at the hospital you will be delivering at and tell them the situation. The nurses at L&D talk to women all the time to see if they should come in. They will talk through your symptoms and then confer with the on-call OBGYN to see if they want you to come in.
@London Mama: I am super unmotivated to work, which is unfortunate because I have a huge project sitting on my desk and a busy month ahead of me. I think since my previa diagnosis, the knowledge that I can be on bedrest at any moment (basically if I have a bleed, I'm doneso) has made me SUPER apathetic to work. I don't even have a firm maternity leave date to look forward to at the moment. Sigh.

@torchwood: are you feeling any better today?
@london mama: nice ebay score!
so far our only big purchase has been a new video monitor, which we bought on sale at target a few weeks ago. i got it out to use when i babysat for a friend's baby last week, and wouldn't you know, it was missing a charger and the handheld video screen was actually broken. it looks like i got one that had been damaged and returned. after a not-too-painful call to motorola, we should be getting a new one soon. i think i may start stalking CL to see if a gently used mamaroo pops up.
ETA: I really need to find some nursery art. anyone have any favorite artists or shops? i need some inspiration!

@Pancakes: I just ordered some prints last week! I really like this seller, she was able to customize and was really easy to get ahold of - https://www.etsy.com/shop/SweetestPie
I tried to place an order for this shop - but she ignored 2 messages of mine. So I've written her off. She didn't have a vacation notice up or anything...I hate crappy customer service! Won't order from her because of it (though I love her stuff!)- https://www.etsy.com/shop/littlelow

Ugh, our landlord is raising our rent. I think its because she knows I'm due later this summer (our lease is up at the end of July) and is counting on me not wanting to move. I'm so mad!!!

@Gingerbee: ouch! That's no good, is it a big increase? Any room for negotiating it down?
@Pancakes: I've got a couple of prints from Ingela P Arrhenius, she also does children's books, plates and some toys. I love this set of stacking dolls:

We had a really rough night, DS cried for an hour + before falling asleep at 9.15pm and then woke up a bunch of times in the night crying and being really upset. Managed to get some pain relief medicine down him and got a few hours sleep after that. I suspect it's the molars that are finally about to come through. We were running late this morning due to the bad night so I skipped breakfast and coffee at home, rushed to daycare, rushed to the station and then almost fainted on the way to work. I guess the time for rushing and not looking after myself is over.

I'll be designing most of the nursery art. I made a print for Chloe back in 2011 and never found the right frame, so I'll finally be hanging it in this baby's room.

@gingerbebe ugh that is so annoying about the rent!

5 month checkup today. Last month for the anatomy scan they didn't get a good look at the kidneys, so I had another u/s today to look at them... and they still didn't get a good look. She is just not cooperating I guess. I'm not too concerned - they want me to go to another hospital for another u/s, which is back to the doctor who did my NT screening, to see if they see the kidneys and get good measurements there. The u/s machine is much better quality, so I don't mind getting another good look at her. Otherwise everything is fine.
In other news, my work baby shower is next Friday (July and August are really crazy months at the library with all the kids coming in doing Summer Reading, so we're doing it early). I am having so much fun registry-stalking. Someone bought our high chair today and it felt like Christmas when I saw that in the "Purchased" section of the list. I really don't feel any guilt about looking to see what people have gotten for us, but should I?

Can we talk about itching? Has anyone been itchy? Mine seems to be the worst at night. Bottom of my feet, top of my feet, palms & tops of my hands, arms, legs, back, love handles...it's driving me insane to the point where it wakes me up at night and I can't sleep. Please tell me someone knows a way to fix this!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@butterflyprism that's so fun! I accidentally stalked while updating our registry! So far someone bought us our car seat, woohoo!
@boogs oh no! Is it dry skin or you just feel itchy? Sometimes my stomach feels itchy but that's just cause my basketball belly is stretching!
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Boogs: Ugh itching suckkkks. Hopefully its not PUPPS, since I hear that is murder (although not harmful). If it is, they can at least give you some corticosteroid cream to relieve the itching. Either way, I would tell your doctor because itching badly could also be a symptom of a liver disorder called cholestasis.
http://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/cholestasispregnancy.html
@butterflyprism: Registry stalking is totally cool - how else are you gonna know what you'll have to end up buying yourself!
Y'all, my Snoogle and my diaper bag arrived last night at the same time via FedEx and it was like Christmas! I was totally skeptical of the Snoogle, but bought one because I got a gift card and it totally rocks! I've been sleeping with a long body pillow and regular pillow and have been waking up with hip pain or shoulder pain lately. Last night, I didn't wake up once, no pain and I could barely tear myself from bed. I can't wait to go home and make sweet love to that Snoogle later tonight!
OH and the day before that my friend who works at Nordstrom corporate send me a BOATLOAD of baby clothes out of the blue! He gets 30% off everything and apparently he's taking this gay uncle thing seriously, because he snapped up a bunch of color coordinated Ralph Lauren outfits for little man during the half-yearly sale. I can't handle how cute his teeny tiny bright green and yellow Polos look!
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@psw27: Don't think it's dry skin. Been having DH lotion me all over and it doesn't help.
@gingerbebe: Oh no, neither of those are good! My next appointment isn't for almost 2 weeks, so I will probably just email her.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@boogs oh no! Well I would definitely call or email your doc just to be sure. Maybe she can give you an antihistamine or something? Sounds internal versus external.

Also, PSA y'all. I got 3 Coobie bras (full coverage ones) after I read Mrs. Hopscotch's blog post and they are COMFY. No underwire, super stretchy, but with some removable cups to hide nippage. Ah sweet relief.
nectarine / 2932 posts
@gingerbebe: I just placed an order for two (b1g1 free w/ code - MOMBOGO1)!! Can't wait to get them. I'm ripping my bra off ever night on the way home from work because of the bands being too tight on my upper stomach....I really hope they're comfy! So glad to hear you like them.
ETA: If you don't mind me asking, what size are you? I'm around 36 or 38C right now...hoping it isn't too tight on the band!
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Littlebit: I wear a full-coverage 38D and the full size Coobies are working just fine. I don't know how it will feel at the end if I get all funhouse big, but they feel awesome now.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@gingerbebe @littlebit I think I need to order these.... My rib cage is aching constantly from supporting these things. I'm at 32DDD and probably going to get E/F/whatever the heck is bigger this weekend UGH!
honeydew / 7968 posts
@Boogs: my only itchiness has been my right nipple. Wassup w that?! I had pupps with my first pregnancy. Wasn't that itchy, right on my belly, rashy.... Went away on its own.
@gingerbebe: unfortunately, I fit into my old bras just fine. Sigh.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@tequiero21: I fit into my bras cup-wise, it just the underwire digging into my sidemeat that's killing me. I've been more sensitive to heartburn lately too, so I feel like compression at the ribcage is exacerbating it.
