Omg, my MIL. She keeps posting stuff on FB about kids with Downs (like touching news stories and stuff). Our kid (almost definitely) doesn't have Downs! She's not the only one who seems to think that though. It's like once that word has come up, they latch onto it as something familiar, even after we make it clear that the doctors are no longer even considering it as a possibility. Oy. I appreciate the support, but... that's really not the way to go about it. (And yes, I'm sure that's why she's been posting it. DH talked to her about it.)

@butterflyprism: Oh yeah, we only have an Amazon list (although I got their extension from Chrome which allows me to add a link to anything I want from an external website, but houses it on one list at Amazon). I sort of did it on purpose because if we get gift cards or something I really only want it on Amazon and I didn't want to manage a bunch of different registries. My SIL used http://www.babyli.st, which is another registry/store aggregator.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@Torchwood: If you're okay with being open about it on social media, perhaps you can share resources with your MIL about the condition your baby does/may have. Perhaps she just wants positive stories in general and could only think about Downs or something.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@gingerbebe: I've been very open about everything, but I really don't know what to offer her. The things she's posting are things like heartwarming stories of people sticking up for a family with a down's kid when someone was being rude. There's nothing comparable really, since we have no idea how this is going to turn out. Hydrocephalus is just a vague medical term that could have any number of outcomes, and at this point we just don't know what we're looking. Could be anything from minor physical or mental delays to her being disabled enough to need to live with us and/or have special care her whole life.

Thanks guys. My mom told me she saw the car seat on Target's website, so I might start a registry there mainly for that and maybe some baby toys.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@butterflyprism I would leave it on there, but I also did 2 registries because certain things I wanted weren't available at Buy Buy Baby so I did an amazon one too.
@torchwood its always hard when people are coming from a good place (trying to be supportive) but are super off base... I would maybe gently talk to her about the differences between downs and what your LO (may) have. Are you comfortable with her FB posting? I would not be pleased about that but I've also made absolutely no mention of the baby on any social media sites.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@psw27: She hasn't specifically mentioned the baby, but even if she did we wouldn't mind, as long as she wasn't spreading misinformation. I've blogged about it and posted about it on FB, and DH (who has way more FB friends than me) and my mom (same) shared my blog on FB as well. I'm trying to be as open about it as possible in case it might help other people who find themselves in the same position. There's just not a lot of non-technical medical information out there about it. I'll have DH talk to her some more if she keeps it up.

22+ weeks. And my morning sickness is back. Have been gagging and vomiting the last 3-ish days plus nausea off and on all day. COME ON.
I found 3 Zofran in my purse this morning so I guess I can take it but...ugh.
I'm also sooooo tired. I think I'm just not one of those ladies who gets the 2nd trimester energy back.
honeydew / 7968 posts
@butterflyprism: I had a bbb and amazon registry. I didn't post twice though. Each registry had different things. Whatever was cheaper. Amazon is usually cheaper, but people have bbb coupons 20%.. So can work out cheaper.
@gingerbebe: I don't think it helps that u work! I'm sooooo tired and gaggy too but I get to stay home....
So my doc gave me the orange soda to drink for my glucose test. Nice! That means an hour before my appt, I drink it so I don't have to wait around an hour at the office! They should all do that! Wow, four weeks and I'm at 28 weeks. Going by so quickly!
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@tequiero21: Dude that's awesome. Mine makes you drink it in front of the lab tech and then sit where they can see you the entire time (including the 3 hour test!) Sucks.
honeydew / 7968 posts
@gingerbebe: I just hope I don't forget hahaha. When are u planning to take maternity leave? And do u know for how long?
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@tequiero21: I just got my script! I have to drink it at the lab though. With Chloe I had to take the test at the hospital, but this time they're letting me pick my own lab. I'm thrilled for the Saturday appointment option! #loser

@tequiero21: Ugh, I wish leave could start right now. I'm SO tired and over working.
Original due date was September 13th. If my placenta stays parked on my cervix, I will have a scheduled C-section at 36 weeks (around mid-August). Assuming I have no bleeds before then, I could work right up until then. If I do have a bleed, then my leave would begin as soon as I'm on bedrest.
All of that changes if my placenta moves out of the way, but the doctor thinks its unlikely. We'll see.
As for leave after birth, I get 8 weeks of disability (for a C-section) and then I have to use my vacation time after that. I want a much longer leave than that, so I'll probably be going on an unpaid leave of absence for a few months. Right now, we are planning on me going back to work part-time in March and then slowly ramping up to full-time over a few months. Since we've talked about me SAH eventually, DH is curious to see how we swing things without my income and how I adjust to being home full time.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: haha, the things we get happy about. But as a wah/wohm, I'm sure that's so much more convenient!
@gingerbebe: hope u guys can make your budget work so u can sah! It's definitely not for everyone, but i love it! I love seeing how much they've grown and how much they've learned going to mommy n me classes and all. (Although part of me also misses going out to work and checking out for a few hours from taking care of the kids lol)...
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@tequiero21: not only that, but the hospital is 45 minutes away without traffic and I'd have to pay parking. No thank you!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@gingerbebe my energy has dipped again too... I was feeling more pep for a while but now work is sucking all of the life out of me. Sorry you are nauseous again
@mrs. Jump rope I'm so dreading the glucose test, I'm taking it before my 24 week appointment. Yuck!
pomelo / 5607 posts
Midwife appointment tomorrow. I'm kind of confused as to how this will work, since I'll be seeing the MFM high-risk OB's too? Maybe the midwives will take care of me (glucose test, etc), and the OB's will focus on the baby (continued high level ultrasounds, etc)? I guess I'll find out tomorrow!

Just out of curiosity, where are ya'll feeling movement? I *think* LO is hanging out really low, but then again as a FTM I'm not really sure since I have no frame of reference? I'm feeling pretty much everything *no* higher than hipbone level, with a lot so low as to be below the, ah, hairline, I suppose is the best reference point. The top of my uterus is just past my belly button now, but I never feel her up there. Sometimes a little higher than my hipbones, but not much. And always on the right, with very, very few exceptions. My belly button is still off center from her hanging out exclusively on the right.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@Torchwood: LOW. like she's about to fall out of me.
She's breech, so this makes sense to me. Chloe was similar!
Sometimes I get jabs at belly button level, but not often.

Oh wow, it's time for the glucose test already? Yikes! I realized this week that I accidentally made my 24-week appointment a week early, but I don't want to change it now because I'm sure they won't have any availability until much later. So I'll go in on Tuesday. I'll be curious to find out what this practice's policy is on the glucose test.
Also, second-time mamas, what are you planning to buy new for this LO?
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@Pancakes: new as in not used, or new as in we didn't have for the first baby?

@ Gingerbee: I've been exhausted the past week, and really grumpy as well. I've been too tired to make dinner, do chores or really anything outside the absolute bare minimum. I'm feeling better since yesterday though so hoping it was a temporary dip.
It's a gorgeous sunny day here in London and the forecast is looking great for the weekend. We're not spoiled with good weather in the UK so really looking forward to some sun. I'm starting work a little later than usual today so having breakfast whilst browsing hellobee at home in an empty house on my own!
Continuing the topic of rude things people say to you when you're pregnant, I was talking to a vendor over the phone the other day and mentioned that I'm expecting. She asked me if I was pregnant when I last saw her (for lunch) "because I had a huge appetite". WTF? For the record, I had a set bento lunch in a fancy Japanese restaurant so hardly massive amounts of food. What a cow, I'll give her a hard time when it comes to renew the contract.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@Pancakes: we bought new furniture and a few clothing items. I plan on sorting through Chloe's clothes and seeing what I might need to rebuy. We are also getting a new humidifier and are looking at video monitors, and new bottles. We aren't getting it yet, but we will need another convertible car seat. Both kids will be in car seats at the same time.
I can't think of anything else new that we are getting! We are reusing everything from Chloe.

@London Mama: How rude!! Glad you are feeling better. I hear you on the energy thing. I've only been cooking twice a week the last month or so. One night I cook 2 kinds of meat and one starch, and then pack them up into 8-10 individual containers with a cup of frozen veg for DH to eat for lunch or dinner all week. (DH has a some dietary/medical issues that are hard to handle unless he has homemade food). Then on Thursdays I prep something for our Bible study potluck (I always do the main entree). I just eat whatever I can handle. I don't do dishes, I don't do laundry, and now I can't vacuum, so DH has been doing it all as best he can (which means its not perfectly clean/perfect, but whatever). However, I do disinfect the kitchen and bathroom once a week. Our house is barely holding it together and it sucks. I think if my energy doesn't pick up here soon, we're just going to hire a cleaning service because the mess is increasingly bothering me as my pregnancy progresses.

@torchwood I would say movement has been mostly high - near my belly button or just below and always on the right side. Sometimes at work when I am sitting a certain way the jabs feel lower though. The newest thing is that I can see the jabs when they are particularly hard! crazy but I love it!
@London mama ew how rude! Did she eat the same exact thing as you? I love the comments... every day my coworker asks if what I'm wearing is maternity or not since she "never" needed maternity clothes. sighhhh

For anyone who needs to buy baby furniture. Babies R Us has a coupon code good through May 31, 2014. It's 15% off a furniture purchase of $125 or more, which I think is pretty rare - 15OFFFURN. Free delivery if you want to pick it up at the store.
honeydew / 7968 posts
@butterflyprism: for baby furniture, I was able to use their regular 20% coupons too!
coffee bean / 44 posts
@tequiero21 Really? Wow, that's great! I didn't think they would allow that big a discount on furniture.
honeydew / 7968 posts
@butterflyprism: as long as they are not on the excluded list. Usually the equipments are on the excluded list. I bought Simmons from bbb, which was not on the list. I was also able to use a bru coupon for bbb for furniture! Needed to buy two cribs.

Gah. My boobs are SO out of control huge! Did some shopping for maternity clothes today, and had some success, but it was really hard to find anything that didn't just scream "hey! look at my ginormous boobs!" I'm well past a DD now, and not even sure where to find a bra that's not super expensive. Any ideas?
honeydew / 7968 posts
@Torchwood: I know grass is always greener, but is wish I had a lil bit of that problem lol. My boobs got fuller but never ever huge. And it did shrink, if possible, post weaning. Ugh.

Completely zonked this weekend. Slept soooo much. And the hip pain! We hit 23 weeks and according to one of my apps, the baby is going to go through a major growth spurt this month and double its body weight (from 1 pound to 2 pounds) so I'm super nervous about how that's going to affect me. I feel like every time there's some developmental milestone I end up feeling like death! Fingers crossed.
A friend of mine gave me a Motherhood Maternity gift card for $75 and I totally used it to buy a Snoogle and maternity underwear! So boring of me, but I haven't been able to bring myself to spend $60 on a body pillow and I know I'm going to want/need one here soon. Its getting harder to roll myself around in bed!
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
@gingerbebe: you won't regret the snoogle! I love mine.
We had the busiest weekend. My husband took off work on Friday and we got a lot done around the house. He put new flooring in Chloe's room, so our upstairs is officially carpet free (and it's amazing.). We did two photoshoots and are wrapping things up today. Friday, Chloe & I slept at my parents house so DH could get the floors done. Saturday was spent moving furniture back to where it belongs, and yesterday we were exhausted because we hadn't gotten any sleep the night before.
Today I am catching up on laundry, cleaning and whatever else I can squeeze in. My husband is working 3-11 this week so he will be home soon, and I want the house done so we can enjoy the test of the day!

UGH I think I have a UTI. I had to go run to the lab and give a sample during my lunch hour (although it allowed me to get Chik Fil A for lunch, yum). I really hate getting on the vicious cycle of UTI-antibiotic-yeast infection-Diflucan but better safe than sorry! Bleh.

OMG, I got a Snoogle at BRU yesterday, and last night I had the best sleep. When I woke up to pee, I had no trouble falling back to sleep. And my husband said I really wasn't tossing and turning like I usually do, plus he got to sleep with my old regular body pillow which helped him sleep better, so he definitely agrees that it's $60 well spent.

Ok ladies, what is your summer pregnancy splurge? I've decided that I'm going to be splurging on regular waxes this summer. I usually do all of that myself, but I don't want to do it with a belly in the way. And we plan to spend a LOT of time at the pool this summer.
blogger / coconut / 8306 posts
I admit I am getting way ahead of myself here, but what are the chances of having two stubborn kids who find their comfy spot and never flip?
Both Chloe & this baby have been breech from my first ultrasound. I'm almost 25 weeks and she is still breech. I know there is plenty of time to flip and she very well might, but I find it odd and kind of interesting (and scary?!) that we seem to make very stubborn children. Chloe is just as stubborn on the outside as she was on the inside, and we can already tell little sis is following in Chloe's footsteps.
But I guess if she's breech, that completely removes the "how should I give birth" decision...

@butterflyprism: @gingerbebe: I think I'm finally biting the bullet and buying a maternity pillow. I've been saying it for a week now, but my sleep has been awful and I'm OVER it.
@Weagle: I usually do one pedicure during the summer and try to maintain it myself, but I'm throwing that to the wind this year. Trying to cut my nails the other day was a nightmare! I'm also planning on waxing but probably not until 34 weeks or so, and then getting them done every couple of weeks until he's born.
@Mrs. Jump Rope: Aw, I hope that's not the case! Baby is just comfy
@gingerbebe: And now I want chikfila for lunch! Hope you're feeling better. I've never had a UTI - but I've had plenty of YI and any type of infection down there is no bueno.
