@ALV91711: This will be #2 for you, right??? I'm so excited for you!!!! When's your due date???
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: Yes, #2. I'm about 6 weeks so beginning of November. With all the sickness in our house I didn't even realize.
@Adira: @Smurfette: @Mrs. Blue: @Pumuckl: Thanks ladies, we are pretty excited. My mom is coming on Friday so I'm excited to tell her in person.

@ALV91711: Oooh, a November baby, just like my #2! That will make for some fun holidays!!

@QueensBee: Thanks!
@Adira: I think it will be great to be home for the winter with a newborn to snuggle.

@ALV91711: with 3 January babies I must admit that I find B's birthday to be the best time of the year. No so much bundling up to do when one has to leave the house. Although having a reason to stay inside is nice sometimes too.

@ALV91711: @Pumuckl: I liked that having a newborn gave me a good excuse not to travel during the holidays and everyone came to us instead!

@Pumuckl: Right now we still have snow. The night I was in labour with Isaac we got a foot of snow. But at least at this time of year it is starting to melt and not be so cold.
@Adira: We weren't going to travel this year anyway, so not too big of a deal.
Isaac's party is Sunday and he is so excited. We know 3 kids are coming and there are 3 unknown since they haven't rsvp'd. Last night I made a punch piñata.

@ALV91711: oh I'm sure they'll love the piñata!
B was home sick until yesterday and he kept asking when he can hand out his invitations to his birthday party to his friends. So I finally finished them today and we'll bring them to his friends in Kindergarten (I guess that's the American preschool) tomorrow. I'm just glad he is finally better again, he was running a fever from Saturday night until Tuesday evening. So he was fever free yesterday and was finally allowed back to school today. Thankfully the coughing subsided together with the fever.

@Pumuckl: Poor guy. Glad he is feeling better and I hope nobody else catches it.
Isaac keeps talking about going to kindergarten, he knows he has to be 5 but doesn't realize how long that is. He really wants to go now. It doesn't help that some of his friends will be going in September since they are a few months older.

@ALV91711: Same here, some of B's friends will move to Preschool (so Kindergarten - this is so confusing ) in summer too. There is no way he'd be ready for that yet so I am glad he has another year.

@ALV91711: @Pumuckl: ha! R doesn't talk about school, but is already talking about her next bday.

@ALV91711: @Pumuckl: @Smurfette: Xander doesn't talk about school either and I'm NOT looking forward to it...

@Pumuckl: I'm so glad that it is another school year away, I'm nowhere near ready for elementary school.
@Smurfette: She must have had a blast to already be talking about the next one!
@Adira: It is crazy how fast it is coming.
Then after I wrote that this morning on the way to daycare Isaac asked when he will be 5. Let's work on turning 4 first buddy.

Looks like Isaac will be an only child a while longer. Miscarried at the end of the week. Glad my mom has been here to help out.

@Adira: @Smurfette: @Pumuckl: @ALV91711: The twins are crazy obsessed with going to "big school" (i.e., anything past daycare, which we call school since they go to half day 3-year old preK). We have our fingers crossed that they will get in (it's a lottery system) to a local magnet school that is Pre-K through 1st grade. The school has some amazing programs and it would be free, which would save us a year of daycare for two kids and that would be lovely. Even the PreK is all day just like the other classes, so it is starting to feel more like they are starting "real" school next year, which is odd. They ask me all the time when they can go to high school; let's slow down and get you in prek first, kids.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Mrs. Blue: High school! They are jumping way too far ahead. Hopefully they get into this school, saving on daycare would be awesome.
I can't believe my baby is 4 today! Time needs to slow down a little. Went for his annual check up and he is 39" tall and 33lbs. 25 percentile for both.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. Blue: high school! That's crazy. R just talks about getting big like Mommy and Daddy.
@ALV91711: hope he had a great birthday. R is 39" but she weighed 37lbs!

So, are any of your LOs still having pretty big tantrums? If L is tired or hungry, and something doesn't go his way, he melts down. His teachers says it happens at school too, but not as often as it used to. I talked to his dr today at his appt and she thought it still sounded normal but that it couldn't hurt to speak with a therapist to get strategies to help him. I'm just worried about him going to pre-k and getting labeled as a difficult kid or something...
ETA: L's stats for his 4 year appt for today: 41.3 inches and 40lbs.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: oh that sounds rough. I wouldn't worry about pre-k that is months away and kids change so much. I would try and find other ways for him to express his frustration.
Our issue is she gets mad. The other night I said it was bedtime, she wanted to play, I said no time to cleanup. I don't want to clean up, and threw the Lego truck. Says mommy I am so mad at you! Or she likes to cry and say I hurt her feelings.i know part of it is she is watching more TV at night but solo with a baby and her, I'm doing the best I can right now.

@ALV91711: oh no! Sorry for your loss and happy birthday Isaac
@Mrs. Blue: haha, highschool. B does something similar our neighbor's boys go to school and one is in elementary school and one in the school from 5-12 grade (schools are either 5-10 or 5-12 here, no such thing as middle school) and B keeps asking when he'll go to the big school?
@Smurfette: @ALV91711: @travellingbee: we haven't had our annual exam yet but B is around 43.5-44 inches and 46lbs, so still a big boy.
@travellingbee: B still runs amok in the evenings when he is tired. All we can do is try get him to bed asap. It has gotten a lot better lately since we have fallen into somewhat of a routine here at home.
I am sure the teachers won't label him difficult - they have probably seen way worse! But talking to a therapist is probably a great tool to learn some coping mechanisms.
@Smurfette: I was so lucky that J1 was such a good sleeper from early on because taking care of a newborn and a toddler alone sucks! I am dreading the day I'll have to do it with all 4 of them. I'm sure you'll find it easier once P is more on a schedule too! FX that happens soon 🤞

@ALV91711: Happy Birthday to Isaac!!!
@travellingbee: Our daycare teachers say that there's another emotional rough spot around 4 and that it's pretty normal. Xander was pretty good during age 3, but he's gotten worse lately with the tantrums. So... whether it's normal or not, I'm in the same boat with you.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@travellingbee: Hopefully the tantrums get better. Isaac has been extra emotional lately. When he doesn't get his way there are tears and refusal to do anything. It is worst when he is tired or hungry.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@ALV91711: Same. Tired or hungry and he gets extra emotional. @Adira: Yeah, he was doing better too and we were all like, "Man, he has gotten so easy lately." and then Boom! Back to emotional roller coaster.
Last night we were taking a walk and he grabbed my hand (he NEVER wants to hold my hand) and said, "Mom, I love you SO much. I love you all day. All of the days. And I especially love you when you are mad at me. And I love you still when I am mad too. I just love you so, so much." Then he wiped his eyes with his hand and looked away. I about started bawling. My sweet, sweet boy.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Gahhh!!! Cue the water works with that emotional speech!!!
I have noticed that on top of being super emotional lately, Xander has also been more snuggly and loving. He wants to snuggle more, wants more hugs, wants more kisses, and says "I love you" more freely. So that's definitely a bonus to this emotional phase!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@travellingbee: What a beautiful little speech.
@Adira: Isaac has definitely been more snugly with DH lately. He has always been cuddly with me.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: @ALV91711: Yes, same. More snuggly and sweet but also more tantrums. Sigh. Glad to know it sounds fairly normal. I do know that he has a particularly big, strong personality so everything is a bit magnified.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@ALV91711: I'm sorry I didn't read carefully and missed that you miscarried. I'm so sorry for your loss.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@travellingbee: thanks. It's been a rough few days but getting back to work today and being busy helped.
I can't believe how big L is, what size clothes does he wear? We are in 3t bottoms and 4t tops.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Xander's still a peanut! He's in 2T pants and is kind of between sizes for 3T/4T. The 3Ts are getting a little short, but otherwise mostly fits, and the 4Ts are a little long in the sleeves.
