OMG I am so tired! I've been awake since 3:30am. Isaac woke up and wanted a cup of milk. I got him one and he fell back asleep, but only wanted to lay on me. He was having a hard time breathing it seemed. Then by 4:30 he was ready to get up. He has had a fever on and off. We thought he was better yesterday and then by 4 he was tired and miserable. I tried to get him to sleep but he just couldn't fall asleep. Once DH is up today and I have a nap we are going to take him to see a doctor and make sure something else isn't going on.

@Adira: wow congrats! Enjoy the second go around!
@ALV91711: oh no, hope Isaac will feel better soon!
We for once had a night that wasn't quite as bad. B slept in his own bed until shortly after 4am. I still couldn't quite sleep but that's crazy pregnant lady related.

@Adira: I just happened on this by accident- congrats!! I love his name so much! Hope you are getting some rest!

@Pumuckl: Thanks. Turns out he has an ear infection. I kind of feel bad not taking him to the doctor sooner. He is back to his self after only one dose of antibiotics.

@Adira: yay congrats!!! So exciting!
Lukas has had a horrific cough and high fever so we went to the doctor today who luckily had sat. hours this week. He has some kind of bronchial infection. He can't sleep for more than a few minutes at a time before waking up coughing, so we are all functioning on such little sleep. And we can't keep his fever down! Hoping these antibiotics kick in quick!!

Wow, this has been a very eventful weekend on the board!
First of all, ahhhhh congrats @Adira! He's just beautiful and I love the name! I hope you're recovering well and I can't wait to hear all about life with two!
@Pumuckl: 4am is pretty good! Pete's also been doing slightly better with his own crib this weekend. Perhaps the 18 month sleep regression is FINALLY coming to a slow end? (fingers crossed)
@travellingbee: Oh no, that sounds horrible! We were also at the pediatrician yesterday (see below). I really hope the meds work soon and everyone gets some sleep tonight!
@ALV91711: Seems like everyone is sick this weekend! Glad the antibiotics are working and he's back to his old self now.
We took Pete to urgent care yesterday b/c he had a low fever that wouldn't go away for three days, plus cough, and then he woke up from a nap inconsolable, despite being on Motrin. He was really wailing and writhing in my arms. In hindsight, I think his bottom teeth (cuspids?) are about to break through the gums and I think that's what caused the fever and pain. He seemed significantly better today and we left the house for the first time in days to pick out a Christmas tree.

I hope all your LO feel better soon. This time of year sucks for sickness

@travellingbee: @QueensBee: Hope your boys are feeling better soon.
I'm scared for tonight. Isaac was asleep at 5:45. He woke up once an hour later. I'm hoping he just gets a good stretch of sleep since he has barely gotten any the last couple days.
@QueensBee: Hope you had fun getting a tree. I wish we could be outside but it was -40 Celcius today with the wind.
I think Isaac may finally be weaning himself. The last time he nursed was yesterday early morning. He hasn't asked since then and I've offered a couple times and he says no. It could be that he is sick, but that has never slowed him down before. I guess we will see what tomorrow brings. I would really like him to stop on his own because I know if we have to wean him it would be a big struggle.

Hey girls! I'm sorry to hear about all the sick toddlers!! It's just that time of the year I guess. Xander was JUST getting over a cold and now we think he's coming down with another one. Hope everyone is doing okay though. I'll try to catch up soon!

We got home yesterday around 4. After 6 hours in the car, should have been 4, R only took a 30 min nap. Ladies, make sure you get gas before the toddler falls asleep. She was so over tired. Was playing with our neighbor one minute and the next 101 fever. She wouldn't eat and was in bed at 6. But woke up fine today. DH is home with her, and said she is acting totally normal.

@ALV91711: so glad Isaac is feeling better. -40 C that's crazy. I'd be staying inside too and I guess yay for self weaning. I still found it to be bittersweet though.
@Adira: Hope Xander isn't getting sick - that be rather uncool with a newborn in the house.
@QueensBee: Glad to hear Pete's sleep is getting better. B was up early yesterday but it seemed to be gas related. Once he passed some and we gave him meds for it he was sleeping (alone) albeit in our bed. We'll see how tonight goes.
@Smurfette: that sounds like a horrible carride. Glad R is feeling better though and that your DH is around to help out.

@Smurfette: Yikes! That car ride sounds dreadful! Glad you guys are home now though and R seems better this morning.

@Adira: I really hope Xander isn't coming down with anything. How is he adjusting to having the baby around?
@Smurfette: Oh my, what a long car ride. Was it just a lot of traffic that took so long? Or extra stops?
@Pumuckl: It is bittersweet. Now to figure out a new bedtime routine, we are all a little confused. Isaac still wants me to put him to bed, so we've been rocking in his chair for him to fall asleep. At least I still get some cuddles.
Tonight half asleep he asked for milk and I put him across my lap since I thought he was asking to nurse and I got a very adamant no. It was kind of funny in his sleepy state.

@Adira: Babies are just crazy. But better laughing than crying I guess
@ALV91711: That does sound funny. Did he just want a bottle/cup of WCM then? We're still doing the fall asleep in mummy's/daddy's arm bed routine. We read a story and he either falls asleep during that or a little after it. He still needs that snuggle time (and I don't mind it either). Usually it's okay if he's still up but drowsy when we transfer him to his crib.
Is any one doing an advent calendar for the LOs? I decided to do a really simple DIY one late last week. He now gets one piece of Lego Duplo per day. He seems to really like it so far. I just put the pieces in to a paper sandwich bag and tied it with colorful yarn.

@Pumuckl: Yeah I made one last year. Last night she opened the first one and she got a Hershey kiss. She held it, licked it, and gave it to me. Weirdo! Other days she is getting hair ties or stickers. Then my Mom got her one of the board ones that you just open every day and it will get tossed at the end of the month. I told her to not get the chocolate version that she got my nephews since I know R isn't really into chocolate.

Hi everyone!
I have some good news to report: Pete spent the whole night, in his crib, two nights in a row! I can hardly believe it! We had to wake him up at 6:30am yesterday and today. I really really hope that is is finally the end of the 18 month sleep regression. He's also been much better at falling asleep on his own, as long as I leave his bedroom door open a bit and the hallway light on. And lastly, he's been less reliant on is pacifier this week too. He voluntarily leaves it in his crib in the morning, and knows that it's only available for naps and bed. I hope all this progress lasts!
He's also started asking a lot of questions. "Where it go?" "What are you doing, Mama?" over and over again. He sure is one curious/nosy kiddo!
@Smurfette: Yikes, what a long car ride! Thanks for the PSA to get gas before toddler falls asleep. It's been a while since we took a long car trip and I would totally forget to do that! Advent calendar sounds so cute! Haha Who only licks a Hershey kiss? I guess more for mommy that way!
@ALV91711: I'm happy Issac is self-weaning but I'm sure it must be bittersweet. I hope he gives you extra snuggles these days to compensate! And I hope it warms up a bit! -30 is just way too cold.
@Pumuckl: I definitely did not have my act together enough to start an Advent calendar this year. Yours sounds adorable though! Maybe next year for us...
@Adira: Just saying hello to you! Loving all the pics of Baby Logan!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: that's awesome! Totally jealous of you questions!! I am hoping the tubes are going to help her with her talking.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Xander seems totally uninterested in Logan!! But last night went better than I was expecting. I'm nervous about the upcoming growth spurts and cluster feedings that will make it impossible for me to spend time with Xander in the evening, but last night was good. Hoping more of the same tonight!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Pumuckl: Last night he didn't want milk, tonight he had about half a sippy of WCM and then just put his head on my shoulder and I sat on my bed and once he was asleep I put him in his crib. For some reason he wanted to be in our room and not his to fall asleep.
I love your advent idea. Isaac has one my Oma made last year that has pockets and a little tiny teddy to move around it. You could also put something in each little pouch, which I'll probably start doing next year. This year he is just playing with it.
@Smurfette: So cute that she just licked it. Sounds like some good treats for R. I think the tubes will help R out a lot with talking. Our neighbours little boy had tubes in and they said it did wonders for his speach.
@QueensBee: I hope he continues to spend the nights in his crib. Asking questions is so cute. It has warmed up a bit. Today was -8 C.
@Adira: Logan is such a cutie. Good to hear last night went well, hope tonight is going good too. Maybe when your cluster feeding Xander can look at books with you or something so he still gets a bit of mommy time.
pear / 1718 posts
@Smurfette: Definitely keep us posted on the tubes next week!
@ALV91711: Thanks! Brrrr, still so cold!
@Adira: It sounds like everything is going really well so far! At least you have DH home at night to help entertain Xander during the cluster feedings, right? But I imagine there will be times when he just wants his mama too. I love reading your updates- a glimpse of what life with two is like at this age!
Pete threw a full on fit at daycare pick up today. I rushed out of work to run to the gym, then rushed through my workout so I could get to daycare by 4:30pm. I arrived right on time and he threw a big fit because he wanted to stay and play longer! He was screaming on the floor and I couldn't get him to do anything. It was rather embarrassing. His teacher had to come over and negotiate with him to get up and put on his coat. Then he cried the whole car ride home. Stinker! Now I know better than to rush to get him!
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@QueensBee: haha sometimes these kids make no sense. B's the same when I pick him up before he got his late afternoon snack (usually veggies like carrots or bell peppers) he doesn't want to leave. So I take my time and only pick him up about 20min earlier currently than when I work.
We had an awful night since he started throwing up at 8:30 pm yesterday and did multiple times until 4 am. We were both so tired today. Luckily he slept late into the day, still had a nap and went to bed normally today. So bedrest was still rather more modified today than normally but I feel ok so all should be good.
@QueensBee: wow two nights in a row is amazing! Go Pete! Hope B will do the same soon aswell.
@ALV91711: Sounds like a not to stressful transition to a different bedtime routine. Glad it's going well. How's your body coping?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: It appears I'm in the middle of a growth spurt already or something! Logan was cluster feeding all night! But Hubs played with Xander and I was even able to sit on the floor with them for a little bit while just nursing, so still got in some time with him!
@QueensBee: Yes! Having Hubs home in the evenings in essential I think! I have no idea how solo parents or SAHPs do it with multiple kids!! It must be so hard!!
Oh my gosh, sorry about the full-on meltdown at pickup! Xander has definitely done that to me MULTIPLE times, so I totally get it!!! Lately he's been fine leaving, but for the longest time, it was a fight to get him in his coat and get him out the door!!! And then he'd cry the whole ride home, but be fine once we got home. At least you know he's happy at daycare!!
@Pumuckl: Oh no!! Poor sick baby!! Sorry to hear about that!! But glad he napped well. Hopefully it was just a 24 hour bug and he's all better now.

@QueensBee: We've had a couple days like that recently, it is so embarrassing
@Pumuckl: Hope B is feeling better. My body is doing all right. Today is the first day without sore boobs and I haven't had to express anything. I've been a little more emotional this week too, which is to be expected.
@Adira: I love the picture of Xander peeking in at Logan, so adorable. I'm glad your getting time with both. How is your DH adjusting to 2?
Bedtime was a little longer tonight but that is ok, it meant more snuggles. Last night Isaac slept right through, 6:30pm - 5am. He woke up happy and babbling in his crib before calling mommy. I was awake before him and it was so cute to hear him playing, usually he just wakes up screaming. I'm hoping that this is the end of his sleep problems. I don't mind getting up at 5am if I don't get woken up in the night.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Well, so far Hubs seems to be doing well, but I know it's totally different on leave than it will be once he returns to work. I think that will be a harder adjustment. Currently he can relax for most of the day so that he has the energy to entertain Xander in the evening while I'm on Logan duty. But once he's working full time, I think he might be more tired in the evenings and it will be harder. Guess we'll see though...
That's so cute about Isaac waking up happily playing!! That's the best! Although 5:00 a.m. is so early!!

@ALV91711: That is great! Maybe the weaning is finally going to get him to STTN!
pear / 1718 posts
@Pumuckl: Oh no, I hope he is feeling better today! And you both got some rest.
@ALV91711: Glad he is STTN!! After my excited post on Tuesday, Pete woke up at 2am again for the last two nights. Two steps forward, two steps back for us. I hope you have better luck!

@Adira: How long is he off for?
@Smurfette: I sure hope so.
@QueensBee: Did the boys make a plan? Isaac woke up at 2am last night. Then at 4:30 wanted to get up because he was hungry. It has been a long day.
I just realized today that next time I get a cold I'll be able to take medication. It has been a looong time since I've been able to do that.

R's teacher told me tonight don't send a sippy cup anymore. They are drinking out of regular cups there. This is going too fast!!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Whoa! That is too big kid. Does she use regular cups at home? I'm too chicken to try.

@ALV91711: He's taken 4 weeks off!
@Smurfette: OMG, what?? I don't think Xander can do that yet...
