@ALV91711: Ohhh, I could totally see the same thing happening with Xander! We got him boots, but when he saw them, he went "Noooooooo!" and ran away from them! I'm nervous about what happens when it snows and I actually need to put them on him...

Turns out LO has a double ear infection. I feel terrible for LO but I'm also incredibly relieved. I thought I was going to lose if it was teething or just toddlerness was causing all that screaming. I can't believe she was still sleeping through the night and didn't have a fever.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Corduroy: Poor thing. At least their is a reason for the screaming and it should stop soon.
@Adira: And Isaac hardly ever even wears real shoes. He mostly just wears leather ones since he has to be in them all day at daycare. So I can see why he wouldn't want boots on.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Corduroy: Awww, poor baby!!! But at least now you know what's been bothering her and hopefully they clear up quickly!
@ALV91711: Yeah, Xander just wears a pair of sneakers at daycare all day and they are totally different than boots! I'm kind of hoping I can trick him into them and then out into the snow quick enough that he'll get over it???

@blackbird: Haha! I can't say I feel the same way about pats of butter but can see the appeal in licking off melted butter. It's good stuff!
@Corduroy: So glad you have some answers and some antibiotics can hopefully bring back you sweet, non-screaming-all-day girl!

@Corduroy: Poor baby hope she starts feeling better soon.
Not much to report on J he is communicating better though not many words yet. He is also getting good at being a copycat and DH and I have to watch out for what we do and say. Don't want embarrasing incidents at thxgiving dinner!
I have been looking for holiday outfit for J with a star but no luck finding a boy outfit. So ended up painting my own gold star on his tee and so proud how it turned out. Can't wait for pictures
@ALV91711: @Adira: J wears only sneakers as well. I got him boots but his ankle seems fat for zipper? even though I got a size up. I'm bummed. Hoping to find something good before it starts snowing here.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@silver1: You'll have to share a pic of the shirt. I went to Carters today to get a Christmas outfit or two and was disappointed that there was really nothing in his size. They didn't even have boy Christmas pj's.
@Adira: DH said to let him go out in the snow without boots and he will realize fast enough that he should be wearing them.
Went to Ikea today and got Isaac his little table and chairs for Christmas. I can't wait for him to have them.

@ALV91711: I know tell me about it. Retailers are missing a huge customer base by not catering to moms of little boys. I wish I was entreprenurial enough to start a clothing line!!

I have to go over one more time in the am. Dh was giving cool ideas like shooting stars maybe for the next tee

@Corduroy: Oh no! The antibiotics have kicked Sadie's ear infections in the butt. Both times she was already feeling better the next day. Hoping it works quickly for you too!
@silver1: cute! I have seen a few cute boy Christmas things around, but I agree that the selection is so limited.

@silver1: wow that looks great!
@Corduroy: sorry about the ear infection. Hope she feels better today.
@Adira: Getting the boots on and then out of the house asap sounds like a good plan. B's been pretty good about wearing shoes- but then his early walker shoes were also so high that they covered his ankles so I guess he's gotten used to it.
We had another night of lil B in my bed. And this time he escaped bed a couple of times to come look for me before I went to sleep aswell. So annoying... Oh well what's one to do, one day it'll all be okay again. Monday nights are usually the worst of the week because it's the first night without DH and I think he's always scared that I'll "disappear" too.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
R fought me putting boots on her for the first time. But I showed her that we had the same ones, they look similar, she was fine. Now she wears them without fighting. They aren't big bulky snow boots. But maybe see if DH can try that?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@silver1: Awww, that star on the shirt came out cute!! Nice job!!
@ALV91711: hahaha, I'm not sure Xander would realize that the boots would solve his problems after playing in the snow without them!
@Pumuckl: Awww, sorry about the sleep. That's both sweet and sad that he's worried about you disappearing on him!
@Smurfette: That's a good idea! Hubs does have a pair of boots that are similar to the ones we got Xander, so maybe if he sees him wearing those, he'll be okay putting his on!

How are meals going for you guys? I think Xander eats well at daycare, but the past week, it has been a STRUGGLE to get him to eat dinner at home. He pretty much ignores everything I give him. If I try to strap him in his high chair, he just cries and says "all done" over and over again. Last night, he didn't eat anything until 15 minutes before bed when I finally just gave him a couple pouches to drink down so that he'd have SOMETHING in his belly.
Hubs thinks I need to try "harder" to get him to eat and I need to make it "fun", but I kind of feel like there's not really much I can do. I give him a variety of different options and I leave it on the table so he can come back to it if he wants, but if he really doesn't seem interested in eating, am I supposed to be doing something about that??
What do you guys do? How's eating going for your LOs?? Any advice??
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I am trying to not worry about it. I figure she will eat when she is hungry. When she doesn't eat a good dinner, she eats a great breakfast. I don't think you can make them eat. I just make sure that she has one thing that I know she will eat. But really it all depends on the day.
How are you supposed to try harder to get him to eat? Why is it your job to do it?
Some days are good days and some are bad, but it is 100% normal for the age.
nectarine / 2631 posts
@Adira: Bradley has started to get kinda picky. He eats a good sized breakfast- then kinda picks all day. He doesn't really like to eat lunch and depending on the dinner- he might eat some. I know that I need to chill on the snacks so he will eat dinner- but I feel bad when he asks for something and is hungry- not giving him it. Especially when my MIL accused me of not feeding him today (because the pants I put him in were way too big .... labeled 18-24 month- but were hanging off him) Yes I feed him- jerk.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Thanks! I'm on the same page as you. I told Hubs that I didn't think it was worth the fight and that he wasn't going to starve himself and that if HE wanted to try harder to get Xander to eat, then he could be my guest, but I wasn't going to do it. Hubs kind of sees dinner as my "job" since he handles morning duties. I think he also will kind of follow Xander around with food and keep offering it to him while he's playing, which is probably part of why Xander won't just sit at the table and eat! I told him we should only feed him his meals at the table and he won't eat them, so be it. I'm not chasing him around with food and if he's hungry, he'll come eat (and he has before too, just not last night).
Oh well, sounds like it's fairly normal! It's just an annoying phase!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cheert16: I think Xander usually eats a pretty good lunch - he eats at daycare and I think eating with the other kids helps! He also has snacks there, though I think his last snack is around 2:30. The annoying thing is, we'll be driving home from daycare and he'll indicate he's hungry, but then when we get home, he refuses to eat! I'm like "WTF kid, you told me you wanted dinner!" I don't get it. Sorry about your MIL though - that's annoying when they are accusing us of not feeding them or something when it has nothing to do with what we're doing/not doing!!

@silver1: The shirt looks awesome. What a great idea!
@Pumuckl: That is so cute that he looks for you. I took Isaac into the guest room last night around 2am when he woke up for the second time. I wasn't sleeping good either, so I figured we should give DH some peace to sleep.
@Smurfette: That is a good idea about the boots. I'll have to get DH to try.
@Adira: Meals are all right. He eats good at daycare. Dinner is hit or miss. He seems to do better if he is eating the same thing as us with us. I figure he won't starve himself, so if he only wants a few bites so be it. I'm not going to force him to eat. I think you are right and meals should be at the table, I wouldn't be following him around with food either.
@cheert16: Well, that is just mean of your MIL. We aren't in 18-24 month pants here yet, they are too big.

@Corduroy: Ear infections are sooo tricky! Finn had a really terrible ear infection last year that wouldn't go away with meds, and he never ran a fever or woke up at night; he was just crabby and kind of off. Now, anytime hems cranky I'm always paranoid that he has a raging ear infection that I'm unintentionally ignoring. Hope LO is starting to feel better today!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: meals are very "toddler-ish" at at our house, i.e. I never have a clue whether they will eat 1 bite and refuse everything else or eat the whole plate and want more. The last month or two, we've started being stricter about them eating what we give them or nothing at all. I try to make sure there is something they like and would typically eat, but beyond that, we're in the camp that you eat what you want at dinner an if you're hungry before bed you can have what you left or you can wait until breakfast. Sometimes (like tonight) one goes to bed with only a few bites and some milk. I feel bad about it, but they're toddlers and what they lve today they hate tomorrow. We really don't want to raise picky eaters, so they have to learn. I do find that they eat better if we are all sitting down and eating the same thing.
I think your DH just has to come to terms with the idea that toddlers may or may not eat at any given meal. As long as it's not every meal, I try not to worry.
apricot / 338 posts
@Pumuckl: Aww that is so cute lo looking for you.
@Adira: Meal times usually go ok he eats a good lunch and for dinner I offer him a few things I know he will eat. Some days he hardly eats a bite. I just go with if he is hungry enough he will eat. Overall I just try to keep track of whether hez has been eating looking at a few days and not a particular mealtime.
J didn't eat dinner tonite and vomitted the snack from earlier. This is the 2nd time in the past few days, the other time was threw up milk this past weekend in the am. Otherwise he seemed fine just scared and cried a bit. I'm hoping its just a random thing and resolves on its own.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@Adira: whenever he doesn't eat anything at dinner I don't make him eat. I don't want food associated with negative feelings. If he only eats little he'll usually drown his milk though. Also as others have said eating all together seems to really make a difference.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: @Mrs. Blue: @silver1: @Pumuckl: Thanks for your feedback ladies!!! It sounds like all our toddlers are doing pretty much the same thing with regards to food and we all have a similar stance on how to feed them (or not), so I feel better!!
@Mrs. Blue: Totally agree with you that my husband needs to just come to terms with it. I think because Xander used to be such a low percentile in terms of weight, food issues make him nervous? But Xander eats well at daycare and is old enough to tell us when he's hungry, so we need to just stop worrying about it so much!
@silver1: Awww, poor J! I hope it's just a short stomach bug or something and he feels better today.

So my bfp turned into a CP and we're going to wait until after the holidays to try again/start IF treatments. As far as L:
Sleep- last two nights were better. L stayed In his crib until at least 530. Win! Especially since I've been cramping so badly and miserable.
Eating- he's eating pretty well. Starting to finally eat off of a plate instead of dumping it all off. Now if I could just get him to stop throwing it on the floor when he's done. Sigh.
Talking- he just starting putting together some words in the last 2 weeks. He says lots of possessives like mama's shoes, dada's car etc. also phrases like more please, sit down, back up, and my turn.
Play- this is the most interesting development. L now likes to pretend. He likes to pretend to sleep and wake up, pretend to eat and drink play foods, and our favorite-- pretend blow bubbles and pop the imaginary bubbles!! I'm surprised he can imagine like this already but I have no idea when most do. It's very very cute though!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: I'm so so sorry about your CP. What terrible timing too since you would've been on treatments this cycle if you hadn't gotten pregnant.
YAY for sleep and for good eating!! And L sounds like he's stringing together more two-word phrases than Xander. Xander's pretty much just says "hi ____" and "bye ______". And OMG - the pretend play!! Xander does some of those things - he'll put his stuffed animals down for a nap and lay down with them and go "night night" and then get back up. And he pretends his blocks are food and will put them in bowls and pretend to eat them. But I don't know if he's imaginative enough for the pretend bubbles! THAT is cool!!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: I know-- I'm so angry about that. The pretend play is so adorable. It's like you can see their little brains growing! How are they getting so big?!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: It's hard to remember that they aren't our little babies anymore!! It's also crazy when I realize Xander can do something I didn't know he could do. We have a few shape-sorter toys and I had no idea he could even do them, but he must've gotten some practice at daycare or something, because he's a total pro at sorting shapes!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Adira: I know what you mean. The boys are doing great percentile-wise now, but I still have to fight the "stuff all the food I can get" in their mouths instinct.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I am so sorry about your CP. I will keep you in my thoughts and fingers crossed that January is your month.
The pretend play is so cute! R isn't doing that yet, but I am waiting for it!
So we went to the ENT yesterday. She has fluid around both ears and her right ear has another infection. The good news is that she passed her hearing test great!! But the bad news is: tubes. I know that it is the best thing for her, but I am tearing every time I think about her getting put to sleep and taken back for surgery. It just breaks my heart.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh no, I'm so sorry! Luckily I think it's a pretty common procedure and doesn't even take that long, right? Just the idea of surgery on our babies is so scary though!!
But HOPEFULLY that will mean a lot less ear infections for R!!! She's been plagued by them way too often!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: yeah it will be like 5 mins but still. It is freaking me out! I know that it for the best. The doctor actually said he would be fine to hold off and wait a couple months. Most out grow by 2. But I asked him if it was his kid, what would he do, and he said tubes since her ear drum has burst twice now. So that was all DH and I needed to hear. My gut was telling me to do it anyway. I hate the thought she is in pain and it isn't telling us and just dealing with it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Poor baby. I think the fact that they have to put her under is what's scary to me. But I've also never personally had surgery, so it's more of the unknown that scares me! I'm SURE she'll be totally fine, but I feel you on it being scary!! At least once it's over, she'll hopefully be in a lot less pain from all the ear infections and stuff. Do you have the surgery scheduled already?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I'll be sure to keep you both in my thoughts that day!!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Smurfette: tubes were the best thing that ever happened to us. It really is so easy. He was crawling around like nothing happened within two hours of the surgery. And he has not had one single ear infection since.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: That is what everyone is telling me, best thing they ever did.

Isaac got sent home yesterday with a fever. DH spent the day with him and now today I'm staying with him. The fever finally started to go down in the middle of the night. We've pretty much been mostly awake since 3:30. I made Isaac lay in bed until 5am, but he really didn't go back to sleep.
@silver1: I hope J is okay and stops vomiting.
@travellingbee: I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope January will be your month.
@travellingbee: Pretending to sleep is so cute. Isaac will pretend to sleep by snoring but his eyes will be wide open. But he pretty much only does this if he is copying someone.
@Adira: I'm amazed by some of the things he can already do that I had no clue they could do at this age. For example they were playing with play doh when I picked him up the other day and he rolled out a snake, picked it up and started to hiss. How does he know how to do that?
@Smurfette: As scary as it is hopefully it will do the trick. I can't imagine having to send such a little one for any sort of procedure, even a routine one. Everything is scary for us mommies.
