@travellingbee: congrats! And sending every sticky dust I have your way!!!
@Pumuckl: bed rest, boo! Hope everything is ok.
@ALV91711: that sounds rough. Hope it gets better soon!

@travellingbee: oh no not you guys too. It is somewhat reassuring though that a bunch of us is going through the same thing/behavior - somehow that makes me think that this is also just a phase and it too shall pass.

@Smurfette: All is good, I just have a shortened cervix - so lots of laying down. The boredom is the worst part.

  3. Adira

@Pumuckl: Ugh, sorry to hear about the sleep issues! And bummer about modified bedrest! I hope everything is okay!

@ALV91711: I do try giving Xander leftovers, depending on what we're eating, but he's usually not that interested and I forget a lot of the time! I should try to be better at it! Sooooo sorry to hear about your sleep issues!!! I really hope they get better soon!

So last night was a VAST improvement to the night before, but it was probably because I just catered to his every whim. Want to play in the car? Go for it. Want to play in my bed? Whatever. Want to just not have dinner at all? Okay then. But he was also more agreeable - waiting patiently while I made dinner (that he didn't touch) and then being willing to go upstairs to bed. He's also sick again... just in time for school pictures tomorrow!

    @travellingbee: Congrats on the BFP!!

I'm pretty LO thinks we forgot her birthday because sure is acting 2. She tries to boss us around. Tells us where we can & can't sit. When DH told her she couldn't watch Elmo she "shhhed" him and asked me instead. She's even practicing her tantrum technique in the mirror. Throws her arms up then stomps one foot and pulls her arms down dramatically. It's adorable but we're trying to shut this all down.

@Adira: I can't remember the last time LO ate a vegetable at home. Daycare says she loves them so I'm not going to make a battle of it at home.

I think we're gearing up for another round of pneumonia. We're having layoffs at work this week so I really don't want to miss work today. DH says he can't miss today either. Not sure what we are going to do. I just want this week to be over.

@Corduroy: OMG, sorry about your LO acting up!!! That sounds both horrible and very amusing, haha. I love that she's practicing in front of a mirror! And that's a good point about daycare - Xander's a pretty good eater there, so maybe it's not worth the battle at home. And ugh, pneumonia! I hope it won't be that bad!!

@travellingbee: Ahhh congrats to you! So so happy! Stick, baby, stick!
And happy to see that L settled into daycare!

@Corduroy: Ugh, sorry you're dealing with all of that! It does sound pretty cute to watch, but then again I'm not the one dealing with it all the time. I hope you're able to avoid getting sick this week. Jobs sound stressful. Good luck!

@Pumuckl: @travellingbee: Ditto! I don't think Pete's spent a whole night in his crib since September. Last night, he came into bed with us at midnight. Sigh, I don't know how we are ever going to get past this phase but I suppose it has to end at some point.

@Pumuckl: Will be thinking of you during these final few weeks! You have such a good attitude about the bed rest. At least you have HelloBee to help with some of the boredom!

I don't have much new to report this week. Pete is still not sleeping in his crib. The good news is that now he now communicates really well and it has helped avoid many tantrums. I feel like he is much happier and more agreeable than he was a month or two ago. Diaper and clothing changes are no big deal now, which is a major change for us!

I have been feeling really exhausted and run down recently. The bitter cold November weather certainly doesn't help! I actually find myself wishing I could get sick so I could stay home for a day! So sad. Now I am just beyond excited for next week and for a few days off. I'm not sure it will be very relaxing holiday weekend because we have 14 people coming over for Thanksgiving and my in-laws will be staying with us for five days. But, it will still be better than the daily grind and I cannot wait!

And tonight we are screaming instead of going to sleep. He has been yelling mommy for almost half an hour and now it sounds like he is saying all done. I don't get why he isn't sleeping this week. All I want to do is go to bed. And DH left tonight and won't be back until Sunday.

@Pumuckl: Does that mean you are not working if your on bedrest?

@Adira: Glad you had a better night. Hope he is feeling better soon.

@Corduroy: Yikes, can't believe she is practicing her tantrums. Cute for us outsiders, but I'm sure not so cute to deal with.

@QueensBee: Sounds like it will be a fun and busy few days. It is always nice to have a change in routine.

I'm happy that I no longer have to send lunch to daycare. He is now eating the provided lunch every day. I just have to send snacks and milk. Once he is on 2% milk then I won't have to send that either.

  9. Pumuckl

@ALV91711: no, no working for me anymore. In this case it's really nice to be living in a country with an amazing social security system. I still get my full pay this month and from next month on I'll be on fully paid maternity leave until 8 weeks post partum and on 65% of my last years average income after that for baby's first year (if I'd stay home completely which I'll likely not do this time either).

@QueensBee: oh no not another crappy sleeper. Hopefully these babies will get back to sleeping soon.

The last two nights B woke up rather early at around 10pm so I wasn't ready to go to bed yet, so I told him he could go to mommy's bed but he'd have to sleep alone. Guess what, he looked at me wide eyed grabbed his lovey curled up and went to sleep on his own but in our bed. CRAZY KID!

@QueensBee: Glad to hear things are better on the communication front! I feel like Xander's language has exploded too, though now there are more word options that he might be saying, so sometimes it's even harder for me to figure out! And OMG - 14 people over for Thanksgiving and your in-laws staying with you??? You're a saint! Good luck!!

@ALV91711: Yikes, sorry about your rough night!!! I hope he eventually fell asleep and slept okay. That's awesome about eating the lunches and snacks at school though! It's so nice not to have to send stuff!

@Pumuckl: haha, maybe he just likes sleeping in your bed because it smells like you guys? Or maybe he knows you'll eventually join him? Either way, it's awesome he went to sleep on his own!

So Xander has a cold and I think I'm catching it. Woke up this morning with a sore throat. And we're supposed to do this birthday party/Thanksgiving thing on Sunday, so I really hope it doesn't get worse.

How much is everyone's LO talking? R still doesn't talk a ton, or we can't understand what she is saying. She will say nite nite, thank you, bye bye, and her version of I love you, but those are the only 2+ words she will say together. I feel bad that we have no clue what she is saying. She won't say yes, will only shake her head to. She definitely knows how to say Minnie!

  12. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Pumuckl: How long do you think you'll stay home with this baby? Sounds like a pretty good system over there. Your in Germany right? A lady just started working with me from there and she was telling me about how different the health care and all that is there.

@Adira: I hope you guys feel better by tomorrow. Being sick is just no fun.

Sleep last night was a disaster. He finally fell asleep at 9:30. He woke up a couple times and was ready to be up at 4:30. The first time he woke up I just let him sleep in bed with me since DH is away and he was sleeping soundly for a little while. And when he woke he would scream, ugh. Hopefully this weekend brings good sleep.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Xander has a bunch of words, but not very many two-word phrases. The only ones he has are his versions of "all done," "all gone," "buh-bye," "thank you," and "hi _____". And I don't even think he knows that "all done" and "all gone" are actually two words, haha. He has a bunch of single words that he uses though. But he still babbles unintelligibly a lot too.

@ALV91711: Ugh, sorry to hear about your rough night! I hope tonight is better for you both!

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I stopped counting her words. Usually she will repeat a word when we saw it but then she won't say it again. I just want to be able to understand what she is saying. And I am ready to have a conversation with her.

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, Xander will repeat words to us too, but I'm not sure he uses them again or not. He can kind of communicate to us when he wants something, like he'll say "waffle" or "pouch", though other food words, I can't figure out. Mostly, he just seems to say "Teddy" or "Charlie" which are his two teddy bears and the name of a girl at school.

  16. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Smurfette: B's not talking much still. He's getting really good at using one syllable words (even if repeated like bye bye etc.) but no real sentences or the like yet. My mom told me though that I didn't talk until I was closer to two and then immediately went to talking in full sentences so we'll see.

@ALV91711: yeah we're in Germany. With B I stayed home 100% until he was 3 months old and then went to work for 16h a week. I spent one day in the office (DH watched B that day) and the other hours I worked from home (I only need a PC and a telephone for work) mainly during naps over the course of the week. I plan on doing something similar this time. Pay-wise I get my income for the two days I work and during the parental leave year get 65% of the remaining income gap to pre-baby covered.

Sadie's talking pretty decently. I can understand 95% of what she says. She's starting to talk in small phrases. Every day she surprises us with new words/phrases. It's so much fun.

I think Sadie's one of the older of the babes here, so I think that plays into it. Even a few weeks makes a big difference with language! She was not very verbal at all, but had her language "explosion" around 18-19 months. She was repeating a lot, and learning lots of new words. She wasn't really talking to us and making short sentences until right before 21 months, which was only the beginning of this month!

@Adira: Drink lots of tea today! Hope you don't get sick!

@ALV91711: We had disastrous sleep last night too. Pete woke up at 12:15am and came into bed with us. He was wide awake for a while. Then, he tried to sleep but he was coughing and sneezing a lot. I guess he is getting sick? I am so tired today!

@Pumuckl: Haha, he really loves your bed! Maybe he is ready for a toddler bed? Although I'm sure that doesn't have the same appeal and Mom and Dad's cozy bed!

@Smurfette: Pete has a lot of words but we don't have actual conversations yet. I am looking forward to that too! He does say enough to communicate with me pretty well though. For example, over dinner he'll say things like, "More grapes please," "too hot," "yucky" or "all done."

    Happy Friday!!!

@photojane: I definitely agree about the age. Xander's almost 21 months and just in the past couple weeks, he's added so many new words and seems more vocal! I'm loving this phase!!

@QueensBee: Just bought some more tea! I'm actually feeling better now that I've been out and about and did some shopping. My throat is still sore, but I don't feel terrible, so finger crossed!!

@photojane: R is 20 months, so I am just worried she is behind. Which I know she isn't but it seems like everyone's else LO is talking way better

  21. autumnlove

@Smurfette: LO 2 has a lot of single words but only a few 2-3 word combos. I can't wait to have a real conversation with her!

  22. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@Smurfette: Sadie's got friends who are talking much more and much less. The spectrum at this age is so broad! By this time next year we'll be posting "how do we get them to shut up?!" R will just start talking up a storm out of no where! It really was like a week between when she was just repeating and when she was chatting. We're still amazed every day.

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@photojane: That is what my Mom and DH keep telling me! You are going to regret it when she doesn't shut up!

So today was picture day at daycare! This was the best option that they got of Xander (he was apparently nervous about getting his picture taken). Not sure I love it, though it's definitely more in focus than the one I took! I think we might try to do our own again to see if we can get something better...

  25. Mrs. Blue

@Smurfette: Our boys have a lot of words now (though I don't know how many anyone else could understand, but still). F has no two work combos and E has only started using two word combos this week and only a couple of them at that. Because language has been an issue in the past, I'll relay what our pedi said at their 18 months appt. She said she likes to see two word combos by 2 years, but doesn't worry about it before that. She also said she wants to see them know 5-7 body parts by 2 years. I'm sure there are other things she looks for, but those were the things that came up in conversation that were specifically for 2 year olds. I think R sounds like she's right on target or ahead!

  26. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: that makes me feel so much better. My pedi didn't seem concerned at all about it at 18m, but I just worry. She knows that many body parts too.
@Adira: I can't believe you got pictures back the same day! Cute!

  27. Adira

@Adira: Such a handsome guy!! I'm not sure our daycare does these photos. I really hope they do! I need to ask on Monday...

@Smurfette: I was so worried about Pete's language until a month or two ago. He hardly ever babbled and didn't say mama or dada until almost 18 months. I remember how hard it was not to worry! But my pediatrician also said that she's not really concerned with most children until 2 because there is such a big range. I think it sounds like Reagan is right on track. It's so hard to imagine that we'll be having real conversations with them within a year!

Pete has a bit of a cold today. It's just a moderate cough and lots of sneezing right now but not a ton of congestion or fever. I really hope it doesn't get any worse!

Also, my little piggy's new favorite request is "More butter." I don't even know where he learned it! But all through dinner tonight, "more butter! more butter!" What a butterball!

  29. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: I've found Isaac is really having a big language explosion right now. He says lots of two word phrases and tries to copy everything we say. He is also almost always chattering away which is so cute. It is amazing the difference a couple weeks can make. I'm sure R will be chatting up a storm soon.

@Pumuckl: That sounds awesome. I've been learning a little bit every day about Germany and it sounds like a pretty great place.

    @photojane: I can't wait for sentences!

@Adira: I think the one that you took is better than this. While this one is still cute, he just looks really unsure.

@QueensBee: That is cute that he wants more butter. What does he want the butter on? Hopefully his cold doesn't get worse.

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@QueensBee: Bummer about the cold! Hope he feels better. And so funny about wanting "more butter".

@ALV91711: Yeah, I like mine better too except it's not as in focus. Grrr. I think we might try again to take our own and hope we get a better shot.

LO has been having 15-30 minute crying fits the last two days and I'm at my wit's end. I have no idea what she wants or if she's in pain. Nothing will distract her. She doesn't have a fever but I think my next step is Tylenol because if she is screaming in pain whatever it is must be pretty awful. Are these just tantrums? Usually I have some clue what tantrums are about however unreasonable.

  32. Smurfette

@Corduroy: I would try Motrin, maybe teething, and see if that helps.

The screaming finally stopped. I'm guessing the medicine must have taken the edge off. I just saw a smile too. I think we'll survive another day.

  35. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

    @Corduroy: Glad the screaming stopped.

We are in the middle of an epic tantrum. He asked to go outside and I said ok lets change your diaper and bundle up. He happily got a diaper change and was running around the house squealing. Put his boots on and huge melt down. So huge, I pulled everything out and put him in his crib for a time out where he continues to scream.

  36. QueensBee

    pear / 1718 posts

@ALV91711: I'm not even sure what he wants more butter on! Everything? He just says it a lot over meals. I have a feeling he learned it from the 1day/week that my folks babysit him and tend to treat him to croissants for breakfast!

I saw your tantrum pic on IG! How long did it take for him to calm down? Although the cold weather makes me want to lay down and cry too!

@Corduroy: glad the medicine helped and the screaming stopped! Any idea what could have been setting her off? I hope today is better!

@Adira: thanks! He sounded pretty bad yesterday so I considered keeping him home from daycare today but he woke up sounding much better. I think the worst of the cold is behind us!

Pete has slept in his own crib until 5:25am, two mornings in a row! I know it's not perfect (6:15 am would be perfect) but it's a lot better than it's been and I'm sooooo happy. I hope it lasts!

  37. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@QueensBee: It took about 10 minutes for him to calm down and once he did he was happy. I did not try and take him outside again.

I'm glad you've had a couple nights good sleep. Hopefully now that he is staying in his crib all night he will sleep later for you.

We had a good nights sleep. He woke up about an hour after he went to sleep for about 10 minutes and then stayed asleep until 4:30am. A little early, but I'll take no wake ups. I did get him to lay in our bed for about 15 minutes before he started asking for monkey show (Curious George).

@Corduroy: Sorry to hear about the fussy LO!! Sounds like if the meds helped, maybe she was in pain? Teething perhaps??

@ALV91711: YIKES! Sorry to hear about your massive tantrum!!! That sucks!!! Do you have any idea what caused it???

@QueensBee: Woohoo! Glad to hear that the sleep situation is getting BETTER. Now to just get him to sleep LONGER. What time does he go to bed?

@Adira: I think it was just from putting the boots on. I don't think he liked them, that was the first time he's ever worn real boots.

@blackbird: Eating butter is disgusting. Kids are weird & gross.
