@ALV91711: unfortunately not really. I was told it can take a couple months. Hope you feel better!

@ALV91711: enjoy your meds All joking aside, hope you feel better today.

I did talk to work today and it is ok for them for as long as I am willing to travel to the office (which is about 300mi away) sometimes. I am fine with that. We'll just have to see what we do once I'm working more than the two days (1 day plus 8h spread over the other 4 days of the week) I work during my year-long parental leave.

Xander just went pee in his little potty!!!!

@Pumuckl: Oh wow! Moving is exciting. It's awesome that you won't have to solo parent as much once you move. And that's awesome about being able to keep your job!

@Smurfette: I've never heard of Peppa either!

@ALV91711: Not going to lie, I can't wait until I can take meds again! I haven't been able to take anything since June 2012!!

As far as a birthday party, we're going to have one, but no theme. I think we're just going to invite immediate family, although Hubs suggested inviting his classmates too... what do you guys think? Anyone else inviting daycare classmates?

    @Pumuckl: that's great!!!

    @Adira: yay Xander!

Am I the only one not bothering with the potty yet?! You all make me feel like I'm slacking!

    We aren't inviting daycare people.

  5. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

    @Pumuckl: that is great!
@Adira: yay! No day care. My family is enough, and enough kids.. Plus I feel like if we had day care kids we would have to have something for them to do. With family they just play and run around outside.
@blackbird: we are mostly doing it because day care is. We don't do it every day. I don't think she is ready at all to full on train.

  6. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Smurfette: yeah I don't think daycare wants to embark on that yet! She just got a 6 month old, too

  7. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@blackbird: are you staying where you are when baby brother starts?

  8. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Smurfette: yeah already reserved our spot. Not sure how long, because we can save $400 month moving to a center. Maybe until he's a year. I'm not sure, it'll depend on finances. She will only keep E until she's 3, and they're moving at the same time because I'm not doing two drop offs

  9. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@blackbird: We are definitely not potty training yet, but Xander got a potty seat and a potty book for Christmas and he's been really interested since then. He sits on the potty every night and Hubs reads the potty book. No pressure to actually go in the potty or anything, but we sure made a big deal about the fact he went in it today!

  10. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@blackbird: $400, is a good chunk to save.

We officially are done with the high chair. She hasn't sat in it since before Christmas. Moved it down to the basement.

  11. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Adira: you're introducing it to him!! That's big!

@smurfette: I knowwwww, but it's so convenient since its right down the street, and T is so laid back compared to a center, I don't want to pull the trigger too early. And I hate to pull them away, E loves her so much. It's so painless so I'm gun shy if it's working! But we have time for sure. She'll age out next April, anyways

  12. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I kind of don't want to invite the daycare kids because of that reason too. I don't plan to have any activities.

  13. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: What a big girl ditching the high chair! Do you have a booster at the table? Isaac has been preferring to sit on our bench at our table, even though he isn't quite tall enough. I've been contemplating putting away the high chair. Last night we just talked about getting rid of the change table too. Where are our babies going?

@Pumuckl: That must be a relief that they are willing to work with you moving away.

@Adira: Go Xander!! We are definitely not inviting daycare kids for a birthday party. Maybe in a couple years.

@blackbird: We have a potty but we haven't been doing anything with it. Don't feel like your slacking.

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: Yep! Booster chair. Super easy to clean too. Now even at restaurants she won't sit in a high chair. Will sit on her knees if we are in a booth. We still use the changing table.

@Adira: we aren't going to invite daycare friends this year...I'll start at age 3!

@blackbird: definitely no potty training for us anytime soon. I plan on waiting til she is closer to 2.5ish to start that and she still needs to work on walking.

  16. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Xander doesn't use his high chair anymore either. He just sits on his knees on a normal chair.

What time are you guys having your birthday parties? Xander takes one nap in the afternoon around 12:30 - 2:30. So I could either do a morning party or a late afternoon one. What is everyone else doing?

  18. autumnlove

    hostess / wonderful watermelon / 39513 posts

@Adira: 11-2 I think. My kids usually nap at 1ish but they will be fine if it is delayed. My friend's kids (only inviting a few families) don't nap anymore so they prefer a lunch party.

I just sent out a evite for LOs "birthday play date". I couldn't even commit to the word party. It will start at 10am and go until whenever to accommodate all the different nap schedules. We invited grandparents and ten of our friends that all have LOs around age 2. No daycare kids even though they have invited us to their parties. The age range is 6 months - 6. I have nothing for the older kids.

I'm focusing on good brunch food (purchased) and just plan to let the kids run around. I think I'll set up LOs water table for the first time and maybe make a ball pit from a kiddie pool. I haven't really thought that through yet.

  20. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: Afternoon. Isaac usually naps at home 10:30-12:30, so probably 2ish.

@Corduroy: Brunch sounds yummy. That will be a fun day, nice and relaxed.

I still feel horrible, DH is sick too and Isaac is feeling quite a bit better with way too much energy! Going to be a interesting weekend.

@Adira: Sadie's party is 11-1. She normally goes down for her nap at 1 or 1:30. I wanted a daytime party, so we had to do it before her nap. We did the same time last year, and it was perfect for us.

@Corduroy: Sounds chill. Everyone will enjoy that. I love brunch!!

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

She usually naps 1230-230 so I think we are going to do it at 5. Since it is family, if I start at 3 they will stay till 7, or later, anyway. Going to serve Hot Dogs, since it is a Mickey Theme. Then will do brats/sausage as well. I figured heavy appetizers would cost just as much.

  24. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@autumnlove: I think we may start next chrisymas around 2.5, too.

I think we'll do a 3:00 party. 2 can still be nap time for us. I don't know, because 3-5 feels like almost dinner time, too. Maybe we'll have her grandma and cousins over for pizza afterwards.

  25. ALV91711

This weekend I decided to try giving Isaac an open cup. I gave him a shot glass with water and he drank like a pro. He loved drinking from a big cup. I'm thinking they must be teaching him this skill at daycare.

  26. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: I am sure they are. You should ask, it is so nice to not have to send a sippy to day care.

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: You are brave! Xander still drops his sippy everywhere, so I'm afraid to give him an open cup!

Thanks everyone for your party time thoughts! I think we'll probably have our party in the morning or maybe at 11:00 and just push back Xander's nap. He just tends to be in a better mood in the morning so I think it's safer to do it then.

  28. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@ALV91711: That's great! Sometimes E does well with them and sometimes she turns them over to see hwat happens. Gah.

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@blackbird: lately R demands ice in her cup. Then she likes to play with it and stick her spoon in the cup and swirl it around and not eat. Oh the tantrum last week when I took it away after repeated warnings.

  30. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Smurfette: OMG the ice! We have to really watch E with it because she will reach into your cup (mostly at a restaurant) and try to chomp the ice, which i don't want her doing. We don't do ice at home anymore now!

Reading the updates Im impressed with the LOs learning and doing all the new things. J's communication has expanded a lot this month. He is using words more and more instead of whining and 'gets' things. It might be just me but I feel like every new thing he does feels like a big milestone!! As compared to last year when it was just a few major ones. He is still not advanced using open cup or potty but enjoying this phase very much!!
Haven't done any bday party planning yet just know that I want one. Thinking about a school bus theme as he is very much into buses nowadays.

  32. silver1

    apricot / 338 posts

@Adira: J naps around the same time. I like the idea to have party around 11am and push the nap to 1pm. Also guests (mostly family) can stay around and chat and not get rushed to leave. J has developed a sweet tooth though so I'm a little bit worried he might eat the whole cake and not nap!!

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@silver1: I think we'll do the same thing. Party at 11:00 and just push back nap time. Xander loves cupcakes too. Not sure what the sugar will do to him! But oh well. His birthday is only once a year. I guess one day of too much sugar and not enough sleep will be okay.

  34. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Adira: that's my mantra too but for us it's more than once a year

@silver1: oh I am so looking forward to the day the whining will stop. Glad to hear it's already starting to happen for you guys.

My mom left this weekend so as of today I'll be alone with the little people again. Just glad B is still in daycare. My sister has graciously offered to take B to daycare today and tomorrow so I'll just have to do pick-ups. As of Thursday onwards I'll have to handle it on my own. Yikes...

  35. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Pumuckl: Oh, haha, Xander gets too much sugar more than just on his birthday too!

Bummer you are going to have to do daycare drop off and pick up by yourself soon. Hubs is still doing both for me. I've done pick up a couple times though and it wasn't too bad. It just sucks having to carry the baby in and out and not being able to pick up Xander.

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

So I e-mailed family to invite them to Xander's birthday party and my MIL mentioned her mom saying "That day is Great Gramma's birthday, so she'll like that!" We weren't inviting great grandparents, so I'm not sure how to respond to that. On the one hand, it's only one extra person, but I'm afraid the other great grandparents might be offended if they find out one came and the others weren't invited. I'm not sure how to politely let her know that her mom isn't invited...

  37. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: just invite them all. Great-grandparents aren't going to be around for long. I don't think you can just invite some family and not others.

  38. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

    @Smurfette: LOL, you're no help!

  39. silver1

    apricot / 338 posts

@Adira: How many more people will that be? Is space is a constraint? As @Smurfette: said they are not going to be around much longer.

  40. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Adira: I echo what @silver1: @Smurfette: said, if at all possible I'd invite them especially if they're still fit enough to enjoy it.

I picked B up yesterday and was stupid enough to lug the carseat instead of clicking it into the stroller. Getting to daycare wasn't an issue but B likes to take his time on the way out (they have a huge outdoor playground and there were lots of puddles yesterday that had to be hopped into). So it took a long time. I was really sore the rest of the evening. Luckily I am feeling a lot better today and will take the stroller tonight.
